Dr. Raymond has saved my cat's life twice now. Last summer, her original vet told me to put her down. Instead, I got a second opinion from Dr. Raymond, and he saved her life. When I was calling animal hospitals back then, I was being quoted close to $2,000 a day just for hospitalization, not including treatment. Finding Dr. Raymond was honestly a blessing. Recently, I thought my cat was bloated, so I took her to her old vet because it was closer (by 3 hours). They did bloodwork and X-rays, then basically told me they didn't know what was wrong but that the prognosis was bad. The next day, I took her to Dr. Raymond and showed him the bloodwork and X-rays. He took one look and immediately knew it was pyometra and that she needed emergency surgery. No guessing. No waiting around. He knew exactly what was wrong. What really blows my mind is that I spent less on her emergency surgery with Dr. Raymond than I spent at the first vet, who couldn't even diagnose her. They even charged me for a radiologist to review her X-rays and then didn't call me back for 10 days. Ten days. Had I not taken her to Dr. Raymond, she could have died overnight. Getting that call 10 days later was infuriating. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if I didn't know Dr. Raymond. He is incredibly knowledgeable, straightforward, and genuinely caring. When other vets have missed the mark completely, he has gotten it right. Twice. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Raymond. Most veterinarians require you to pay and schedule an appointment before they'll even respond or consult with you about what might be going on with your animal, but Dr. Raymond goes above and beyond every single time. Recently, my bulldog became extremely ill on a Saturday. Out of desperation, I emailed Dr. Raymond because he's the only vet I trust with my dogs. Within an hour, he personally responded and asked for my phone number so he could call me. Not only did he call me, but he had already arranged for me to see another veterinarian so my dog could be seen right away--at his pricing. He even spoke directly with that veterinarian to go over the recommended treatment plan. While I was at the appointment, Dr. Raymond called me again just to check in, and then made special arrangements for me to pick up additional medication at his clinic. His clinic was closed, no staff were on site, so he arranged for someone to go in after hours, retrieve the medication, and leave it for me to pick up as soon as I was finished with the other appointment. This is not something he had to do. He did it out of the goodness of his heart, because he genuinely cares about the well-being of animals. I've been taking my dogs to Dr. Raymond for over 13 years, and there's a reason I won't go anywhere else if I can help it. With bulldogs, vet visits are frequent, and I'm always thankful we have him. What sets Dr. Raymond apart is that he's practical, logical, and will never recommend a procedure that isn't needed. He is not in this for the money--he is truly about the health and recovery of the animals he treats. I honestly can't express how grateful I am to this team. My baby, Bella fell ill over the weekend. Thinking it was just a cold, I waited until Monday to schedule an appointment with my vet in Sacramento. They had an appointment open on Tuesday and when I went in, they did bloodwork and x-rays. $1,000 later they said that my Bella would need to have her uterus removed due to Pyometra, and it needed to be removed SOON, but my vet didn't have the staff to do it that day. They referred me to some local vets, saying it could cost upwards of $5,000 or more for emergency surgery, plus an additional $1,000 a night if she had to stay. Then they suggested I go to Placerville if I really couldn't afford that. I contacted the referral, Caitlyn, and within the hour she said they can do it that night. Dr. Raymond and his staff are amazing. Incredible people who care about the welfare of all animals. Dr. Raymond and his staff saved the life of my little 15-year-old Chihuahua who had a huge growth on his spleen, and it turned out he also had a huge growth of testicular cancer that we had no idea about. Dr. Raymond worked all morning and afternoon yet. He told me that he could meet me for surgery that night and him and one of his assistants came even though they worked the entire morning and all day they came to do surgery just for my little baby. They didn't question that he is a geriatric dog at 15 years old. They just did it to save his life and it turns out that my dog is recovering and is doing well, living his second best life. I've taken my dog, Cali to several appointments now. She gets so excited to see Dr. Raymond, she can hardly stand it! She loves him! I truly appreciate his ability to diagnose and treatment without all the "testing" other vets insist on. After the first treatment for allergies (she was almost bald on her hips, legs, and sides from chewing and licking, she fell asleep in the car on the way home, and didn't look back. I've had two experiences with Dr Raymond's walk-in clinic; both have been successful. The first was with my senior kitty, who had originally been to Slate Creek with my complaint of a urinary problem. The vet at Slate Creek offered to prescribe my cat Prozac?? But after I asked twice, she agreed to perform a urinalysis. Slate Creek called me a few days later to tell me my cats results were fine, and that he "probably just had anxiety." While asking around for new vet recommendations, I received a recommendation for PAW, and went immediately. Dr Raymond was able to diagnose my cats urinary problem, prescribe medication, create a plan of action, and we were our the door and back home in no time. My second experience at PAW was also a walk-in visit for my 6 month old Anatolian puppy. She had rapidly developed a large cyst in her mouth, which we originally rushed her to Pleasant Valley Pet Clinic for on a Monday morning. They performed surgery there and sent us on our way, but within a few weeks, it became clear the surgery was not done properly. We called PVPC back about the returning issue, and they told us they could not see our pup for another week... so back to PAW we went. Dr Raymond was able to get us in for surgery ASAP. It's been almost 3 months since my pup's surgery, and it's very clear the procedure was completed correctly this time. I have two healthy pets after visiting PAW, and for that, I will always recommend Dr Raymond. PAW is an extremely affordable pet clinic. The visits are packed with information, and are very quick so that they can continue seeing patients and offering low-cost care to as many families as possible. Please remember to ASK questions you need answers to. The vet and his staff are not inherently aware of your existing level of knowledge of pet care. It's still your responsibility to advocate for yourself, and for your pet. If you fear you might forget your questions during your visit, write them down before hand to reference while you're there. read more

I made an appointment with "Caitlyn" via text and explained my dog had possible glass in his paw. I also asked if there was a long wait because my dog is very fearful. She told me the wait might be 20 minutes but she would bring my dog back in a room as soon as possible when we arrived. I made the hour drive to the facility and walked in. Lady at front said she would call me when there was a "buzzer". I said that I don't know what that means. She could not tell me how long of a wait, just said, "everyone will be seen today". The waiting room was completely full of dogs and cats. It was tiny and the place was extremely dirty. As I looked down, immediatly noticed balls of hair floating around. It was a hot day and it did not seem to be air conditioned. As a former RVT, I was appalled at the crowded conditions and opted to leave. I'm not sure how this place can be legally run this way as not conducive to the health of anyone's pet. This low cost facility was gross and I would never recommend it to anyone. They wasted my time and gas, and caused my dog more stress. read more

Dr Raymond is a heaven sent lifesaver! I will be eternally grateful to him and the rest of the staff! They are my go-to vet now. Despite me living at least an hour away. He has saved my German Shepherds life twice! In August he performed surgery on my 10 yr old German Shepherd to remove a cancerous anal gland mass for a fraction of the cost. I could not afford it at her local vet and she was beginning to get uncomfortable. His staff answered all of my questions before the surgery (paranoid dog mom) and never made me feel like I was a bother. He tended to her every need after surgery and we were going for routine follow ups as we knew she was starting to have a recurrence of the mass (very small and had not grown in the 6 weeks since her last follow up) but she was very happy and healthy otherwise and was acting like her young self. The surgery gave her great quality of life back and more time. I knew the chance of recurrence was high but I wanted to give her a fighting chance. The day after Thanksgiving she was acting sick and lethargic, suddenly, so I took her to her local vet for an urgent care visit. She had a fever and they charged me $800 to perform x-ray and ultrasound and there was zero sign of spread and there was no clear cause for her lethargy. So they assumed she was at end of life and told me to take her home and just wait until she tells me she is ready to pass. They did nothing for her! No meds, or follow up appt. or call the next day (like they normally did). I was shocked and gutted and spent the next day sobbing while I watched my dog suffer for no apparent reason. I decided to message Dr Raymond during the weekend because I was desperate and wanted to make sure that I advocated for my girl. I didn't believe this was the end and wanted a second opinion from someone who I trusted and had been showing her wonderful care! He called me within 10 minutes and offered to meet me at the clinic. He started her on some antibiotics and steroids to see if she would give us any feedback as he could not find a clear cause either. She started to show some improvement thank goodness. He checked on her everyday until her followup appointment where the cause of her infection became clear. She had a neck abscess. He modified her meds slightly and she started feeling even better! He didn't perform unnecessary tests and the costs for the MULTIPLE visits were below $200. He just cleared her medically and even he said she looks like a happy dog again and he is so right! She has been happy and acting like her old self. He saved her life a second time. Had it not been for him she likely would have died due to a TREATABLE high fever/infection. Despite the small office and the hectic activity, their kind approach ran deep. I felt assured that my Nikki was in good hands. They offer holistic and conventional services was what I was looking for. My little Nikki is 17 years old and so her bodily functions aren't what it used to be. After the examination, Dr Raymond assured me that improvements to her health was totally still do-able where others vets suggested I consider to put her down. I drove over an hour from another county for this consultation and it was SO WORTH IT. Warning! Don't trust this Vet. Unprofessional, no compassion. I feel he misdiagnosed my cat, injected him with meds and my cat died that day at home. During my visit, the Vet took a quick look in my cat's mouth and said it was a gum infection and would be ok. Few hours later I woke up to my deaseased cat. Next day I called with the sad news, my cat died and asked what meds they gave my cat. She was brief and said a manager would call me back. Lack of empathy. No response from the manager. I have had 2 experiences with this vet. First, they are cheap...but you get what you pay for. My first experience I needed a referral for their surgery center (they are fabulous and inexpensive). The waiting room was cramped and a little trashy looking, but whatever. The appointment seemed short and unorganized but I got what I needed, so again, whatever. I had been referring people to this place for the surgery center ever since. Now for the tea. I also happen to be a pharmacy tech and I work in Folsom. A patient brought me a script that had 3 problems with it. I called the vets office to get the problems resolved, which is usually an easy process. The first girl I talked to was polite but needed assistance from her supervisor. The office manager got on the phone and yelled at me, denied it was from their office, had no idea how the pet was supposed to take the medication, and then preceeded to hang up on me. The owner of the dying cat the prescription was for left in tears. The only reason I even give this vets office a 2 star is because I would recommend the surgery center. Now, not only have they lost potentially 2 customers but also all the referrals I was giving them. read more

I took my chihuahua in for a coughing problem Dr Raymond diagnosed it in 60 seconds. With just a stethescope he nailed it. It was congestive heart failure. My dog is old but Dr Raymond had him back to reasonable heath by prescribing diaretics. My dogs cough is almost gone. No expensive exrays or blood tests just good old fashion experience. Dr Raymond is so awesome! My 8 year old pit bull had a stroke that affected the right side of his face. Dr Raymond gave my dog ozone treatments (2x's per week) and by the 8th or 9th treatment my sweet dog could close his eye and his right side of face was (still is) lifted so he looks like a young dog (including his jowl)! The pricing is very reasonable because Dr. Raymond wants to help animals and their owners, pure and simple. Also, it is impressive that Dr. Raymond is a retired professor from UC Davis Veterinary School! Further, even with the gas (about $20 round trip) it is less expensive than going to a local veterinarian of similar prestige and esteem. As well, I trust Dr Raymond completely and would never question his treatments. Furthermore, his staff are gracious and kind. The Wellness Clinic is only open Monday through Thursday from 4pm-7pm but because they never turn animals away, Dr Raymond and staff are frequently at the clinic after 7pm. If you choose not to make an appointment you may arrive on site before 4pm to be on a sign-up sheet. read more

Correction, they booked 25 appointments and 15 walk-ins, a total of 40 appointments for a three and one half hour to four hour window, or 10 pets per hour. That is six minutes per pet. It's a financial scam booking more patients than can reasonably be treated. No appointments for emergencies. You just have to wait, for hours. It depends on what you're looking for in a vet. I had a feral cat whose leg was swollen and he was unable to walk on it. I had adopted this barn cat from animal outreach, so I called them. They recommended this Vet as most veterinarians will not see feral animals. I will not get into how difficult it was to capture a feral cat, but we did it. I stuffed him into a pillowcase and put him in a box and off to the vet we went. We waited for four hours before we were seen, the Vet was able to manipulate the cats leg in the pillow case and determine that it was not broken and administered medication and sent us home with meds. Although the cat would not eat the medication that was sent home, we had an alternate antibiotic for another animal that he would take. He was walking the next day and is fine. read more

Dr Raymond was my last hope to save my dog. Other vets referred me to an emergency vet hospital and the testing would have cost $4000-$6000. I figured this was the end of the road for her.
