I am SO impressed with this vet. I had a few bad experiences with our vet. (black Oak Vet. In Garden Valley) and needed my puppies to be seen right away. They were booked but they squeezed us in. They were super friendly and our apt was in and out. No crazy parking and call the front desk and they'll come out covid garbage. We were able to go right in, and there was 0 wait. It took longer to drive there than our apt. Took. I will be moving all my animals to this vet. Oh! And last but not least they were super affordable which was just the icing on the cake! You won't go wrong going to Them!

But, I question the financial ethics of this establishment. Also, because I'm here, I will mention that the receptionist was cold and rude. I thought I was just being sensitive but my partner independently commented on it later. I came out sobbing and she shoved some papers at me and walked away. In that stack of papers was a DRN. I really hope most pet parents get some kind of warning or verbal preparation that they are about to have to sign an invoice and also make a decision about whether their pet gets resuscitated or not. That was truly foul. Now, I understand ER vet care is costly. I understand that it is not the fault of the staff that systemically there is a problem with the price of vet care. But, if you participate in the practice of upcharging people in their most vulnerable moments then you are behaving unethically. I am now in more than $5,000 worth of debt from one visit. My dog needed fluids and antibiotics. So, yep, I went from just having gotten out from under credit card debt through debt consolidation and hard work to a crushing 5K worth of debt in one day. Because she needed intravenous fluids and broad spectrum antibiotics. That's all she needed. In the moment I said yes to every single thing on the invoice they presented me with. But, now, that my dog is not potentially dying from dehydration/vomiting in front of me, I can confidently say not all of those interventions were needed. They could have started with fluids and antibiotics and went from there. I already had labs, an ultra-sound and health data on her status from my regular vet from that day. But, we had to re-do all of that. Did we though? Was it necessary? I don't believe so. I was told my bill would be from 12-20k if she needed surgery. If that had been the case I would not have been able to pay for it. Our pets are going to die because the cost of vet care has gotten so out of hand. These prices are predatory.

They are always very patient, understanding and encouraging. Not only that - but they don't try and empty your bank account in your time of need. Some vets will try and sell you on some ridiculously over-priced "plan" before haggling to something more reasonable. Not here. They've diligently worked with me for months on a tricky skin issue which we finally have gotten under control. One time he had gotten bit in his face and there was no way I could bring him into the office without total chaos. They were very creative and drew up a plan with me to sedate him in the car and then take him in. They drained and cleaned his wound. Even with sedation, emergency visit and the special circumstances, I walked away spending a few hundred (versus what I'd expect would be closer to 1k+ elsewhere). Because my pupper is SO difficult at the vet, I've been to *dozens* of vets in EDC and Sacramento county. This is, hands down, one of the best I've visited. Strongly recommend!!!

We arrived around 9pm so needless to say it was a horrible night. The next morning we left and since we are not familiar with the area when we finally got cell phone service we got online and looked for the closest emergency vet. We found several but when I explained our situation nobody would take us in. Pollock Pines Veterinary was the only one that said to bring him in. The break was so severe that it required surgery and unfortunately the surgeon would not be available for at least 3 days. We were able to keep him comfortable with medication given and it almost seemed like he didn't even mind hobbling around with his broken leg on a splint. The ladies that run this facility made every effort to contact every and any other vet hospital from Reno to Sacramento that could attend to him sooner. No one was available for several days. We finished our trip with my boy all busted up but in amazingly good spirits. We were finally referred to a specialist in Sacramento that was able to surgically repair his injury. He is fully recovered and bouncing around like he's a puppy (he's a 5 year old boxer) Thank you to all you ladies at Pollock Pines Veterinary Hospital for your exceptional service and care you gave my boy! 10 stars and then some for your professional care!

When I came to get Eevie's bloodwork done last year we had a bit of a false alarm kidney scare, and Dr. Thornton showed so much compassion and clear direction. The appointments never feel rushed. We followed up a year later and no kidney issues, thank goodness! Dr. Thornton even reached out on her day off to tell me the good news as soon as she got the lab work in. Eevie went in for dental extractions recently and we had another great experience. They provided me with medication to give her prior to bringing her in to help calm her and prevent nausea. They even showed me the kennel she'd be kept in - a dark room separate from dogs with huge heated kennels. I appreciated their communication every step of the way and I could tell everyone that works there is super knowledgeable and committed to their mission of being fear free. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and like you can drop by or check in at any time after you drop your pet off for a procedure. And during her exams, Eevie appreciated the many churrus and got her first taste of whipped cream one visit!

Avoid SacTown Vet!…read more They refused to vaccinate my dog after only a few minutes and still charged the full $91 visit fee despite providing no real care. I clearly explained my dog has some sensitivity from past veterinary trauma. During the exam, they touched her from behind without warning, she gave a brief warning response (no bite), and they immediately stopped and refused to continue. The only options offered were: * come back for another paid visit with anti-anxiety meds they never told me about beforehand, or * take my dog to the back alone for sedation/anesthesia to complete vaccines. I don't understand how separating an already anxious dog from their owner, restraining them, and sedating them is considered more "fear free" than a calm, controlled vaccine with the owner present. For context, my dog regularly goes to groomers and is handled all over her body without issue. This feels specific to the vet environment, not general aggression. I later went to another highly rated clinic and they handled her immediately and professionally. She was given treats, a muzzle was only used briefly as a precaution at the end, and she received all vaccines and testing in one visit within minutes--for a better price. This clinic felt rigid, poorly communicated, and more focused on protocol and repeat visits than actually working with the animal in front of them. I would not recommend them.

Warning that his review is long because there is so much…read more I brought my cat in at 430pm on a Sunday as my vet office referred them for emergencies. I called ahead and they told me it would be about a two hour wait. We live 25 mins away with a yowling cat, was not a fun car ride. He fell off his cat tree and got his head and neck stuck that caused some concerning problems walking, head bobbing, and arm twitches. The place is BIG and long. Vast parking. Several exam rooms. Huge lobby seating area. Drink station for customers. But FREEZING cold when you are wearing shorts! The vet tech came out within 15 mins to get the initial info of what happened and some medical history. Now here is what I don't like. He took my cat without me and said that a vet would check him out and then come out with the options and charges. This is why i avoided taking my cat to the vet during the pandemic. I want to be present for all exams and procedures. I want to know you are actually doing the work and treating my cat right. 20-30 mins later Vet tech comes out and tells me that the exam is $200 and pain meds would be $120 asked for approval. I said yes. We wait some more. They bring us into a room to wait for the vet. She says they notice his ataxia and that something neurological is wrong with him and thinks that maybe that caused the fall, not vice versa. Recommendation was blood tests, x-rays, blood pressure, etc.. and a tech would be back with an estimate. He hands me a piece of paper itemizing it all stating it would be minimum $1000 to $1300 and that they would charge the High immediately before staring . The diff would be refunded before I left if they didn't have to do sedation or medication. Fine. We wait another hour and 20 mins before they call us to return. I told him we were sitting in the car to warm up. He says come now. The doctor wants to talk to you about the test results. We hurry back only to wait another 30 mins!! I am freezing and annoyed and dying to pee. Vet finally brings my cat in the room to say they can't find anything wrong with him and that he has vastly improved since we brought him in. If he continued to have problems he would need to be referred to a neurologist. They did not need to give him pain meds or sedate him. She offered to do a full blood panel for an additional $300 and overnight observation which I cannot imagine how much that is and would have been great if I didn't have to pick him up first thing in the morning so I said no to that and yes to blood work since she says, "the outside lab is going to be picking up soon so you have to decide pretty soon if you want the results sooner" tapping her watch. I thought I was saving time because they already had his blood. Here we go back to vet tech quoting me another $275 but figured since they didn't sedate or medicate that this should still put me around the initial $1,300. Much to my surprise, I owed an additional $171. Conveniently they did not allow me to keep a copy of the original estimate so I cannot prove what I saw or pinpoint which charge did not happen. She did the math for me by reading off everything but something still felt wrong when they don't let you see it. We were tired and just wanted to take my cat home so I did not argue anymore. I later found out they did them separate so it screwed up the Care Credit free financing for the latter portion because they ONLY give 6 months regardless of amount. Yes, the vendor determines this, not Care Credit. My vet office does a year for $1,000. Then tech says they have to keep him a little longer for the second blood draw!! WTF. I would have said no if I had known that! but they lead me to believe this would be just a simple add on for the blood they already took, not more trauma to my cat being poked or another 40 mins of my time. The final inconvenience is that I kept asking for an itemized receipt and they kept telling me that they would give it to me when my services were done. Finally checked out with cat in hand and I specified that I needed it for my insurance for reimbursement. They sent it via email and I should have checked it before I left but it was just a receipt with the final charge. I call to get it sent again along with the medical record. I was shocked to see that the $500 X-rays were of his torso and none of his head or neck... the part he fell on! So... $1,476 and 4 hours later I guess isn't bad for a vet emergency. However, I feel like the service and billing is not transparent when you don't get to see anything and you get shuffled in and out of rooms so often, you don't know which way is up. Maybe its normal ? but my vet allows me to see everything and the billing isn't always changing. First time I had ever been to a pet emergency room so not sure if all this was the norm but I didn't leave feeling confident about the overall service I was provided. I know to ask more questions next time
