Can I give zero stars? Seriously -- forget this place, run far away. I just moved into a new house in Sly Park, and this is the only vet for miles. The day we moved in, my dog ate rat poison left by the previous owner. I called about 15 minutes before they closed, BEGGING for help. They told me to drive to emergency care in Folsom -- a 45-minute drive -- and then wait an hour for them to open, instead of helping me at Pleasant Valley Vet, which is about 10 minutes away. I later found out Pleasant Valley Vet could have helped immediately by inducing vomiting early, which likely would have significantly increased my dog's chances of recovery and saved me thousands in emergency vet bills. But I guess they would rather subject my dog to 3 days of in and out of emergency treatment than to stay open a few more minutes. Go to Sierra Animal Hospital instead and thank me later. read more

I used this vet for 5 years and will never go back after multiple bad experiences. They are great when your animals are healthy, but then you get treated as if you're a burden when your pet gets sick and they OVER TREAT. First negative experience I had, was when my cat started losing control of her bowels and losing weight. After some simple noninvasive studies it was suggested that she most likely had GI cancer. She was old so didn't want to get crazy with the testing. Based off of what was happening at home she had to be miserable and I considered putting her to sleep before it got worse. Vet asked me to work with her on a treatment plan before putting her down. This vet said to keep in contact with her if plan wasn't working and we would make adjustments as we go....so I decided to give it a shot as she was adamant and willing to work with us. When our treatment plan wasn't working I tried to call her to inform her and tweak our plan as she said. The girls at the front desk would write messages for her and vet would never call back...tried a couple times. Finally I asked front desk to patch me through to her voicemail and after I did that I finally got a call back. Vet was very aggressive and asked what my problem was. I was taken back and told her I didn't understand her reaction explaining what she said our plan was before. She apologized and we then we worked on another plan...which didn't help either...and she was not very helpful after first appointment when she asked me not to put my cat to sleep. In the end, my cat suffered longer and I did euthanize her. I wish I would have stuck with my plan because she would not have suffered as long. Second, they have stressed my dog out by taking her in back away from me and holding her down for blood draw. Instead of stopping and reassessing approach when she started to freak out, they got extra staff to hold her down and scratched one of them. She gets nervous with new people, which they knew, and without her mom....she is an Aussie and I think has PTSD from Covid vet appointments when they wouldn't allow me in building with her. Lastly, I got 3 kittens from a rescue and a week and a half after I got them I took them in for their first check up. One week after first check up....ring worm! Based off of the timing the ring worm had to have come from vets. Also the other kitten from the litter and the home they came from with other animals and children were all fine. The rescue helped me with sending me some supplies to treat the kittens and the isolated environment, but the vet refused to give me a discount on any meds they were prescribing even though they could have been the source. The vet put the kittens on a very strict treatment plan. When treatments weren't working they would be more aggressive with treatment by adding doses and/or medications. I was going through so many bottles of expensive topical meds fast! After 3 months of the kittens being in isolation, their environment being decontaminated once a day, topical meds twice a day, medicated baths every other day, and oral meds....the rescue offered me a deal I couldn't refuse. She offered to take them back and treat them and would give them back to me after she got them better. She said she thought the vet was over treating them. The rescue stopped all treatment when she took them back....and they were fine!!!!! The redness on their skin was from being over treated and the ringworm was gone!!!! We will never go back!!!! read more

Our 15-year-old kitty, Meijo, was limping for a couple weeks. We found out that he had some of the worst arthritis seen in a cat. His little kitty knees had bone spurs. He had a thorough exam and was given a life-changing treatment for him called Solensia. Meijo has been back to his old self with improved mobility. It brings us peace that he is no longer in pain. He'll need to go back in a month or so for another injection, but that's okay. He's an old guy and we want him to be as comfortable as possible while he ages. read more

Do not go here if you have a dog that has aggression from prior abuse. First time using them and the last. I told them upon request she would need to be sedated to have treatment from a dog fight. I was told by the vet I saw that that wasn't needed unless surgery was & from appearance the wounds looked superficial so we opted for the medical route of antibiotics. Baliegh (my pup) still needed an updated rabies vaccine and I was told I couldn't leave without one. Since she was already in pain I offered walking her to the back to be put in a kennel and I could hold the lead through the metal door and vaccine could be administered. I thought this was the plan. Amy the RVT came in and assured me I didn't need to go back, my stomach wasn't sitting right as she took my dog and I voiced this to the vet in the room who REASSURED me Amy has dealt with dogs like this time and time again and is very good with them. The vet then followed her to the back and I began hearing banging against a wall ... about 10 min later my dog was brought back to me absolutely distraught and covered in saliva, loose dog hair and blood. They both said she hit her lip but that was it. I began questioning how the did the vaccine and after constant questioning I was told two metal poles around her neck and she was thrashing. I asked why they didn't bring her back to me if she was in that much distress and they didn't have much to say. I brought baliegh home and whilst getting her out of my SUV noticed a gaping hole on her jaw... I looked further and saw something sticking out of it... it was a piece of plastic. We unfortunately had to put our cat Jasper down after having him for over 14 years. The entire ordeal was a lot less awful because of Amy and the staff there. Everyone was very accommodating and I knew what to expect the day before. Both my son and I were very sad and worried that Jasper would feel pain, but it was apparent HE was in the best hands possible before he passed. Amy was in charge of the entire process and did a BEAUTIFUL JOB! We can't thank her enough and she made sure everything was done perfectly. A client for over 20 years AND I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!!! If I could give 0 stars I would. First I will start by saying that when Dr. Jacket owned this practice it was the best vet ever. Dr jacket and her staff saved and cared for so many animals in our family with the pets best interest at heart. Now that Amy has become the owner it has become the absolute worst vet experience I have had. She is a long time vet tech who bought the practice and is now on a power trip. Now that I have that out of the way here are some examples of how poor the care has become which is the most important thing when it comes to choosing a vet. First my dog had I litter of puppies. When they were a few weeks old I call pleasant valley vet clinic to see when was the best timing for the puppies to get their first set of shots and deworming. They new their birth date and made the appointment for the puppies to get their first shots at 7 weeks. The first picture I have attached is a picture from a sign in pleasant valley's own lobby clearly showing the getting their first shots is recommended between 6-8 weeks. This becomes important later. All the puppies were healthy and went to great homes. We kept a puppy and when he was about 6 months old he got very sick. I brought him into pleasant valley for care. He was seen by Dr Mary Clark (who no longer works there...probably because she is not competent) he vomited during his exam and she was sure that he had ingested a foreign body. Even after I had told her there was no way that was the case and an x-ray that didn't show a foreign body she insisted he have surgery. That surgery turned up no foreign body just a very irritated stomach and intestines. After two day in intensive care and him still not improving they finally gave him a simple blood test for parvovirus which ended up positive. That's when suddenly I was a bad owner because I had started his shots to early. That's why he had gotten parvovirus, because I had decided to get his shots at 7 weeks instead of 8. Here is the problem with that I called them to ask when it was best to get their shots... they made the appointment knowing exactly when they were born and I had given no parameters about when to schedule only asking when it was best. At that point I was not working because of covid so could come in at any point. Plus the even have a sign hanging in their lobby proving that according to them it was even ok to give the shots one week earlier. Now my puppy went through a surgery he didn't need and didn't get the correct treatment for over two days because they jumped to foreign body and surgery before ruling everything else out first. They then informed me that because of my dogs case they had made a rule that any puppy that came in HAD to be given a parov test before any surgery. Why had that not already been a policy? Why did my dog have to be sliced open and go through that recovery for absolutely no reason. Why did you not do a whole blood work up and rule out more simple things before going straight to surgery. These is one out of about two dozen bad experiences that have happen just in the time that Amy has taken over (2 years). Even when I was waiting in the parking lot during the puppy incident two different people came to collect their records because of bad experiences. I hope this review shines a light on how bad this place has gotten and they can get it together or it saves a person out there looking for a new vet from choosing them and regretting it later. Pleasant Valley thank you for firing me as a client. On to better vets that know how to do their jobs and practice owners that care about the patients and their family more than just their profit. read more

I was not allowed to see how their exam was performed, nor to observe the care my KATY was receiving, when I questioned the assistant I was told I was not allowed to watch. I did object as that was not right. I was told that is the way it is. Since I am newer to the area, I wanted to try at least two vet clinics in the area. Last year I tried one for my dog's annual exam, and today I tried the other, Pleasant Valley Vet Clinic. I also specifically wanted to try a male vet, as my previous vet in Southern CA was also male (and adored). So, I brought my beloved senior gal (dog) to Dr. Johnson. I was extremely impressed with the facility- ample parking, clean and spacious waiting area, nice decor, complimentary coffee (Keurig), and well-equipped. They are also well-staffed here. Our appointment went very well, Dr. Johnson did a nice job with the exam and discussing my concerns with me (recommended vaccines for the area, skin tags, etc). I especially like a vet who will sit on the floor with my dog and I. It is that type of bedside manner that I look for and appreciate in a vet. Since they have an in-house lab, I was called by the Doctor himself with the blood and heartworm results within 3 hours of my appointment - IMPRESSIVE! I was also impressed with the fact that I could pay in the exam room before I left - a convenience I have never experienced before! The exam cost was comparable to other vets in the area, the blood panel was quite a bit more than what I paid last year at the other local vet. I also appreciate that Dr. Johnson is not the type to push services, but does a nice job at communicating his professional opinion and backs it up with experience. The demeanor of the front desk staff is also very important to me and a point of dissatisfaction with that other vet's office. The gals at Pleasant Valley were friendly and welcoming. Tylene especially went above and beyond to answer some questions I had via email prior to my appointment. She was helpful, thorough and prompt in her responses. The only drawback I find in this area in general, is the lack of a holistic-minded vet. I am extremely particular about my dog's care and wellness, and do my best to research all issues and make the most informed and healthiest decisions I can in order to extend her quality of life. On our way out, my dog enjoyed sniffing and marking in the designated area off of the parking lot, which I thought was a great perk! Neither of my previous vets had this, and I know my gal enjoyed the "pee mail". All in all, I would highly recommend this clinic. The fact that they have several doctors increases your chances of being seen quickly in case of an urgent matter, and the in house lab provides faster results. It is a very nice establishment for this area, has current technology in place, attentive staff and is very clean and well-kept. I was pleased! read more

I love this place. My mom has brought her dog here since she was a puppy (for over 4 years). When I got my own puppy I knew that I could trust these doctors and techs to take care of my little baby. The staff has been wonderful to me and my dogs. As a first time puppy-owner they answered all of my questions and eased all of my worries. Besides the excellent care they take of the animals, they are very fairly priced as well as conservative in diagnosing illness/injuries. You know what I'm talking about... you bring your dog in for diarrhea and you leave after doing seven blood tests, a biopsy, X-Rays, and CT scan. This does not happen here. They are conscious of your wallet as well as your pets well-being. They are a little far off of the beaten path, but well worth the journey. I drive two hours from the Bay Area to bring both of my dogs here. I can not imagine bringing them anywhere else. I know that they are in great hands when they are there. I needed a place to board my two (and then three) dogs and I asked around for recommendations and Pleasant Valley was brought up a lot. One employee, Cindy went above and beyond to get my third dog into boarding at the last minute which was so great and such a relief. I'm very disappointed in this veterinary clinic. I made an appointment for my dog to have exrays. I was never given an estimate as to what it would cost. On the day I was suppose to bring him in I was sick so asked my husband to take him in. I was shocked at the amount I was charged. She did a surgery that wasn't confirmed by myself or my husband. I had already had that looked at by another vet. They had that and a obvious skin tag, again looked at by another vet set to be examined for cancer which cost me alot. Then they sent my husband home with a large $106.00 bag of Dasuquin chews, if they would have called me to see if he liked chews I could of told them no. I called the next day to talk to the Vet that did the work I wasn't given her name, only told she was a substitute so I asked for her number, I was told they didn't have it. Within 2 weeks my dog was completely paralysised in his two back legs. I took him to my previous vet. I was asked if his legs got worse after exrays I said yes, she didn't say why she asked that. One week later my dog was couldn't eat, poop, & was incontinent. He was in horrible pain so I had to make the decision to have him put down. This was a rescue dog whose first five years was terrible. I saved him & it took me years to prove to him that he was loved, he worshipped me. I'm going through the worst pain in my life. The total bill was closet $1000. Dollars. I hope this review will keep someone from losing their dog. read more

We had an emergency with our puppy in which her middle toes on her back leg were nearly amputated (skin was the only thing holding them onto the rest of her paw) and they spoke with my husband over the phone until I was able to get home to bring her in. They saw her right away and were able to save her toes! She healed wonderfully! They've also seen my other dog and will continue to come here for our whole pack. read more
