This is a test only facility and I believe they also do repairs. I believe Avo is the owner and a wonderful soul. I've been there a few times for smog tests and he always went above and beyond to help me out even if my car didn't pass. He's very honest and a straight up guy. I'm going to concur with everyone else. We took our 2005 Subaru to Avo for it's 30K service. I had been to the local Subaru dealership for a recall repair, and was put off by three things: (1) They managed to find $1000 worth of repairs, when I only inquired about a 30K service (2) while I was waiting for the recall repair, some of the slimier guys from the sales floor came into the waiting room to pitch to us, and (3) the repair took much longer than promised, and I left feeling lucky I'd gotten out of there w/o spending any money. By stark contrast, Avo put me at ease immediately. There was a total lack of nonsense, just a professionalism and easiness one rarely finds in ANY kind of service, much less in auto repair. What a pleasure. We got out of there for less than the dealer had wanted for the 30K service alone. And despite Avo's search with his diagnostics equipment, he did not "find" the $1000 worth of repairs the dealer wanted to do. I ASKED him to look for things, which he did, but the car is fine! Hoorah! When I retrieved the car, it was running perceptibly better, and we are very very pleased. I'm driving it 1000 miles in the next few days, and will know more then, but I have no worries. They are a great auto repair shop that is fast and friendly. What's great too is their willingness to explain any problems.

Googled a place to do my smog check and found this place, which was close by and turned out to be affordable knowing that smog checks cost about $50. Arrived at the shop around 11am and was told to wait for about half hour before we were serviced and decided to eat at Bid Daddy's Fire Grill while we waited. As we finished eating, we got a call from the shop saying my car is ready and passed the smog test! Went back to pay and no one was there at the counter. We waited for about ten minutes, but they seemed busy outside so we understood. The man at the counter, Avo, was friendly, helpful and answered all the questions I had. Smog check cost $45+certification fee of $8.25, total of $53.25. Not bad. read more

I can't say enough about the quality of service that Foothill Smog and Auto repairs provides. I used to go to Nissan authorized service center to service my car and they made an absolute mess of my hassle free car. As a result i started searching in yelp and other review sites and finally decided to give Avo and his company a try. And that was the best decision I've made in my life when it comes to taking care of my vehicles. Avo and his mechanic Mike are absolutely delightful people to deal with. Like the other reviewers said, you can sense the sincerity that both of them have when you talk to them. They are the most honest people i've ever seen. I have gone there 3 times now with different problems and they have always tried their level best to minimize my expenses by doing only what's required. They never tried to sell me anything that wasn't needed and if something was wrong and it took them several hours to locate the problem, they bill me for only the number of hours rounded down to the lowest hour not rounded up. Their prices are very reasonable when compared to other independent auto shops and when compared to authorized service centers, it's ridiculously low. I dont' know, but every time I bring my car back from their shop, I am always smiling. I can't believe why others are not like Avo and try to sell you crap all the time and make money by cheating their customers. All you need to be is be honest with your customers. If you do that, they you will get the customer's loyalty and by other referrals, you'll get more business. If only all the shops and businesses followed Avo's example.. i can only wish. read more

Avo and his assistant are wonderfully professional and efficient. I had to go in for a smog certification. I called at three in the afternoon and Avo said he could check on my car in 20 minutes. So, I drove down there, pulled into his shop and 20 minutes later pulled out. Now this was a Friday in the summer and it was late in the afternoon. I came across this auto business since my former place no longer did smog certs. I was greeted by a very nice gentleman and he was able to take me in as a walk in. By the time I finished my paperwork and maybe waited no more than 10+ minutes, my car smog was completed. I always went to nissan dealers for oil check, etc (I don't know why). However, I moved to Pasadena a few months ago and unfortunately I needed an oil change and a smog check. I didn't want to drive all the way to Gardena so thanks to yelp, I found this place. (: I was in a rush so asked how long it would take. He said about 1.5 hours. So when I needed service, I went back. Their new digs are so clean and well-organized. They recently repaired the computer anti-theft system on my car when it malfunctioned. They were calm and courteous on the phone and didn't talk down to me, even when i had questions. They didn't try to upsell me things, recommend additional repairs (even though my car's old, so they probably could have), or pressure me. They did the work in the timeframe they gave me and figured the estimate exactly right. Although they didn't have their own tow truck, they recommended a towing service that came within 20 minutes (I wish I remembered it's name, because they'd get 5 stars, too). The facility was bright and clean, signaling pride in their work. (Check out the car in the lobby that the owner Avo restored himself. I drooled over it!) GREAT PLACE! MET MY NEEDS! My sister, fiance, and I all take our cars to Foothill Smog & Auto. I felt beyond lucky to find this auto repair shop when we moved to Pasadena 6 years ago. I got ripped off by the first place I went, so working with Avo and his team has been refreshing. There are a million reasons why I bring my older, high mileage cars to Foothill Smog & Auto, but the top reason is that I had my car in for an oil leak and they were going to be working near the timing belt --he noticed I was due and was able to save me a ton of money on labor by replacing the belt while they were in there completing the other job. Even my father approves of my choice of mechanic and that says a lot! I would recommend this shop to everyone!
