Very seldom do I feel the desire to write a Yelp review for a business I didn't even do "business" with... but Avo deserves it! I accidentally stumbled into this place after using Google to find an auto mechanic in Pasadena (also named Avo) that I had taken my car to years ago. After initially talking to Avo over the phone, I was convinced it had to be the same guy (so helpful and eager to provide any information I needed!), so I set an appointment and took the car in. By the time I figured out that this was a case of mistaken identity, Avo had already diligently spec-d out the pieces and provided an estimate for the work. In a couple of minutes, he was thorough enough to even identify another problem that my regular oil dude didn't mention. He didn't bother forcing the service, but let me know that the problem was there. Wanting to keep my loyalty to the auto shop that had previously serviced my car and knows its history, I told Avo that I had mistaken him for someone else, and asked if he minded that I try to find my other auto shop. I promised I would bring my business back to him if I couldn't locate the other shop. I can't say I know many people who would respond so kindly and graciously to such a moronic move (on my part). But Avo said "no problem" and really was genuinely understanding about the whole situation. I did end up finding the auto dudes that worked on my car a while ago, and while they may feel like "home" to me, Avo's place is certainly a nice comfy, welcoming couch I'd crash on. I moved here in 2015 with my grandpas 1999 Toyota Avalon. Avo (the owner) was able to help me maintain the car even though it was out of state and had 15 years of rust underneath. Since then I've had 3 more cars that I've brought to Foothill Smog for any sort of maintenance and I've been extremely happy with the service. The inspections are top notch and I feel like I'm getting in a brand new car whenever I come to pick up my car! This past year my manual Civic was overheating and the transmission was making some awful noises. Avo helped to diagnose the engine head gasket and input shaft bearings on the transmission, and only a few days later I was back on the road. My civic now has 160k miles, and it feels and sounds great! I have no doubts about how many miles my cars can go as long as they're taking a visit to Foothill Smog for preventative maintenance. :) read more

This is the best auto repair shop I have ever been to. The place is nice, clean and tight. Avo, the owner, is an honest and cordial person, knowledgeable of any car. Howie, the mechanic that worked on my car, is smart and meticulous. If there is something wrong with your car, he will find it and fix it. I first took my 2006 GTO to them when I bought the car to do the smog check and I have been bringing it here ever since. After the 50k miles service, the car is running better than ever. They took the time to explain to me all that need to be fixed and they did not try to sell me anything I didn't need. Just to illustrate how great these guys are, I took my car for an alignment to a tire place. The mechanic at that place forgot to tight the shock screw, which came off a few weeks after. I email Avo, how told me to bring it right away. They fixed the problem in no time without charge. The prices are fair, but the peace of mind you will have knowing that the job was done correctly is priceless. I will be taking this and all future cars to them for sure. read more

I found this place on Google (it had very highly rated reviews) and so I just stopped in, as I live in the neighborhood. The owner nicely greeted me upon arrival, and said it would be about a 20-minute wait. That seemed reasonable as he was quite busy. Being busy is a good sign - that means they're good! Sure enough, 20 minutes later he did the smog test on my car. The waiting room was very clean, with new magazines, free candy & free hot drinks. While waiting, I spoke to another customer about the shop. She said she was very happy with the company, and that she'd been coming to him for years to service her cars. This place is amazing. Avo took great care of me and my car. I'm not from the area and was visiting Pasadena when my car broke down and no I e would work on it! Apparently most people don't work on Suzukis..? Avo was friendly and helpful and gave me a very reasonable quote for my car and gave me amazing peace of mind. I left my car there for two weeks while I went back home and never worried about it. It was fixed well before I was able to get it and Avo stayed in touch with me and let me know what was going on the whole time.
