So, we live in north Phoenix - like Shea/32nd north. But when Dr. Ryan relocated to Foothills Animal Hospital, we had to follow. The drive is brutal, and probably won't work out if we have an emergency situation, but it's worth it to know my cats are in the most caring and expert hands in the valley. I've made the trip three times now and am going to keep going here, despite the distance. The location is actually easy to get to, if it weren't for all the I-10 closures. Without traffic or construction (ha ha ha - hardly ever) it's about 25-30 minutes. The facility has plenty of parking and Saturday morning hours (thank heavens). Check in is simple and we haven't had a long wait yet. Chris at the front desk was extremely kind, efficient and helpful - looking up my I-10 construction detour travel route home for me and everything! Treatment rooms are standard - small and comfortable enough, with great pictures. I like that they feature a mix of pet art styles - not just generic cat poster art. The pet tiles on the floor were also a nice touch. Abby was our vet tech for the most recent visit. I was obviously bedraggled from the drive, and she was a ray of energy greeting us and discussing my cat's history, etc. She was also very thorough when explaining a possible treatment plan for later this year. I felt very comfortable handing my cat off to her for blood work, etc. Our history with Dr. Ryan goes back hmmm.... 20 years? Maybe more? So there's just too much to share about her. Our cats are our top priority, and she understands how much we want to keep them healthy and happy. She's treated our many cats over the years for almost everything - kidney disease, cancer, FIP, tumors, UTI, and just general old age. The doctors and staff here at Foothills Animal Hospital are outstanding! They are communicative, friendly and caring. Everyone seems to care for your pet as if they were their own. It's fantastic. The checkin process is great. Text the number on the door when you arrive with your pet and let them know which parking spot number you are in. They call you then send a tech out to get your pet and bring them inside. A bit later you get a call from the doctor. We've been seeing Alex MacKenzie for years. He's awesome, super caring, great communicator, clear and knowledgeable. Couldn't ask for much better than a vet that can get you in when you need them, is very caring, has a great process with outstanding staff and attitudes and can be fully trusted. I've been going to Foothills Animal Hospital for 20 years and seeing Dr. MacKenzie for 19 of those years, along with Jody at the Front Desk. When I had to put my first dog down, Wolf after almost 17 years I remember having a really tough time with that painful decision and Dr. MacKenzie got on the phone with me to ease my pain from what we had to do. Shortly thereafter, I got a letter from the Humane Society telling me that the Foothills Animal Hospital had donated in Wolf's name. I had been looking for a new vet because I moved from downtown and my dog is a total pain in the car so driving there wasn't an option I was willing to deal with. Anyway, after a recommendation from my Yelp friend, Meldie, I called here and they were able to get him in the same day. This place was a breath of fresh air and everyone was so friendly, personable, kind and helpful. Chris, at the front desk found a mistake made by the Vet I had taken Jack to the week prior that even I hadn't caught. Carrie was just as helpful when I called earlier in the day to get a same day appointment. Dr Marc was so good with Jack and good at communicating with us about what was most likely going on. For the last 6 1/2 years The Veterinarians and technicians at Foothills Animal Hospital have cared for our pets. Since my dog was diagnosed with renal failure last year we have been in to see each of the Vets at one time or another. I can not say enough good things about this business . Having experienced being a business owner myself I know how hard it is to find quality staff. This clinical has somehow found many . This past week I had to make the difficult decision to euthanize my dog. The staff made it as comfortable as possible for both me and my dog. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for Dr. Johnson. We normally see Dr. Marc, and he is amazing too, in fact, the entire staff is exceptional! Dr. Johnson saved my oldest fur baby Milo, he's 16 and has seen it all. But even he agrees, that Foothills Animal Hospital is the best ! He ended up needing to stay for a few nights, and normally I would be worried sick, but I felt so confident in Dr. Johnson, and those caring for him, that I actually felt better in the knowledge, that he was being well cared for. I was kept informed several times by Dr. Johnson, and the rest of the team, and even when it came time to pick him up, Dr. Johnson came out & talked to me and told me how wonderful Milo is, and went over his home care instructions. There are several vet offices in Ahwatukee, but this is the best priced, most compassionate one I have ever been to, and will continue to go to. We brought our 9-month-old puppy in after she got ahold of my mom's joint. Such a frightening time for us as we were out of town visiting at the river when the puppy because very lethargic and limp, I could barely feel her heartbeat. We rushed her to Yuma (1.5 hours away) and Foothills was amazing with her. They let us call multiple times that evening to check on her and by the next morning she was good as new. This is veterinary clinic is awesome, the front desk is the best, kind, prompt and they've all been there for years, so they know their clients, furry and human. Dr. Johnson is awesome, she takes wonderful care of my doggies. Foothills Animal Hospital is happy to charge you for their service but when questioned about charges has nothing to say! Our dog was brought in 7 months ago for an abscess on neck which required drainage. While she was asleep we asked for nails to be trimmed because she hates her feet touched. Skip to today when treated for ingrown dew claw which had been skipped during last trim! $150.00 treatment. Doctor calls us via phone and discusses treatment with absolutely no mention of cost. Asks if we want a bandage that we may or may not need. We choose to have one applied. $30.00 for a wrap and tape! $25.00 for nail trim. And $60.00 for visit! Ask to have doctor call back and he basically says nails grow fast and they trimmed it last time. And seemed offended that we might question it. Would have kept me as a customer if he had simply said sorry we missed it! I'll make sure to make this same review on every possible medium! Good luck Dr. Mark!!! Always extremely happy with the care our Large breed animals receive from Jenny Johnson. I met her about 6 years ago and through casual conversation and our dogs ongoing health issues. She impressed me with substantial knowledge and so I decided to switch. I've meant to leave a review multiple times but after wrestling with a dog that's excited tends to break your focus. Unfortunately I forget to leave one every time. Honestly it's unfortunate I forget to share because we truly receive stellar service from not just Jenny but the office staff as well. With great businesses being drowned out by big companies posting fake reviews I like to share businesses that are noteworthy. Most noteworthy is her ability to deal with my wife's constant concerns. If one of our dogs is grumpy. My wife is on the phone making appointments. I sure wish someone cared that much about me when I'm having an off day lol. Normally I won't write a review on a place that I have just started using, but I have to give Foothills Animal Hospital a SOLID five stars for my first visit there with my puppy. They care about their dogs and their owners. That is apparent. When I first walked in, the front desk staff cooed over my dog. My neighbor said they did the same thing for her dog. It was genuine, though. The staff really seems to love animals. Once I was called back, the vet tech looked over my animal and weighed her. Then she told me the doc would be in soon. Well, it was a little bit of a wait... and during that time I got several phone calls. The school called to let me know DD was having a coughing fit and that I needed to pick her up right away. I got a little frantic because of the situation. I told the front desk I needed to leave. They got Dr. Johnson who told me to just go get my daughter and she would examine my dog. There was no hesitation. She knew where my head was and she knew I needed to go. I'd never met the vet. I'd never stepped foot in the office before. But she helped me out, human to human. It may seem like a simple enough act to you, but not to me. To me this is the difference between good customer service and amazing customer service. I was in a bind and she untied me. For that one small gesture, she will have me as a repeat customer. When I returned, everything was waiting for me. I thought that maybe I would just pick up my dog and go. My boyfriend and I recently took our new 11 week old Shih Tzu here to get her 2nd set of shots and we both were kind of nervous. That completely changed once we were greeted by their friendly staff! They coo'ed over our puppy and took her in back to show to all of the vet techs and it was so apparent that they care a lot about the pets they see and their owners. Also everyone that came in or left while we were waiting were treated so genuinely, almost like everyone that came in was a close friend. Once we entered the exam room they knowledgeably answered all of our questions an then some! They offered advice and when I asked our vet tech if our puppys nails were getting long she said yes, then went into the back and got nail clippers, and while clipping our puppys nails she taught us how to do it for future references! We saw Dr.Johnson and she was wonderful and she thoroughly explained all of the shots she got that day and the ones she would be getting in the future. Back again to post another favorable review. We adopted a kitten at the AZ Humane Society - a little boy that got named John Snow after the Game of Thrones show. A truly loveable kitten. John Snow managed to help himself to some trail mix that people were eating and he had a terrible reaction to a raisin. Dr. Johnson and the staff took wonderful care of John Snow for two days and got him back to his normal "fun" self. They followed that up with a phone call a couple of days later to see how he was doing. Just simply a first class group of people who truly care about animals and in providing the best care possible. I have an extensive series of interactions with this clinic and there hasn't been a time where I haven't been pleased with the service. Initially our dog had some serious issues after we got him from the shelter. We wound up having to go through chemotherapeutic treatments with the doctor. Dr. Mackenzie was incredibly helpful. The oncologist in Gilbert was going to charge us roughly 500 dollars per treatment over a prolonged course and Dr. Mackenzie offered to do the same treatment for significantly less. Over a 9 treatment course this was incredibly expensive. I don't feel as though we were nickled and dimed and I felt like the quality of care from the support staff and the veterinarians was top-notch. Our most recent check up, shots and skin work-up cost ~$160, which is somewhat costly, but I truly value their expertise and care. I would highly recommend this business to all pet owners. read more

I raced into this clinic at 2 pm yesterday to find a vet tech at the front desk. I told her I had a cat who was struggling to breathe and needed help. She proceeded to tell me there were no vets in the building. The cat then stopped breathing in their lobby as she was finding a paper suggesting I go to Alma school and warner. I'm telling her I think the cat just stopped breathing can't she give CPR?? Isn't she a vet tech??? She said yes I am but I don't know CPR. Really?? I ignored her suggestion and raced to another clinic a mile away but it was too long the cat passed. Shame on this clinic for not having ALL staff trained in CPR for pets. I would think they would want their vet techs to be properly trained. I would never recommend coming to this clinic if vet techs aren't trained in simple important knowledge read more

For the past month I've had zero luck tracking down the prescription cat food both of my cats need (I'd tried online, all of the local stores that normally carry it, and even my regular vet hasn't been able to get it in for the last 2 weeks). I got a new puppy, his name is Champ in June and wanted to find a really good Vet since I am a first time dog mom. A few friends both mentioned this place, so I called and scheduled an appt. I was able to get a Saturday appt time relatively fast. They were amazing with Champ and me, really took the time to ask questions and do a full check up. They gave me great advice and listened to all my concerns. Dr. Johnson was really good and took time to exam Champ and walk me through the basics. Wow. Okay let me tell you how amazed I am at this place. My labrador retriever had torn her ACL a few years back and has always had some limping problems after any rigorous activity. Recently, it had gotten a bit worse and I thought it was time to look into surgery. After some xrays and manipulation of the knee, I was told that she would be a good candidate for the ACL repair surgery. I was hesitant to do the surgery but the price was so fair and reasonable at Foothills Animal Hospital (FAH) that it completely justified it. Fast forward to the day of surgery. I am an emotional wreck at baseline so was tearful speaking to vet tech as I dropped off my dog. The vet tech was so sweet - reassured me that they would give her a ton of quilts to sleep on and that she would have happy pills and would be completely comfortable. She also told me she would call that evening and tell me how she was doing. That is above and beyond and I was comforted knowing she was in caring hands. An hour after I drop her off, I get a call from Dr. Baumler. He tells me that after manipulating her knee, he doesn't see much laxity as you would expect with an ACL tear. He then looked at her x-rays and said that the knee had developed so much arthritis that the pain wasn't from the tear per se but rather from arthritis. He told me that this would not be fixed with surgery and that his recommendation would be to medically manage it with anti-inflammatories the day before, day of, and day after strenuous activity. Instead of choosing to take my money, he was honest and forthright about what would actually be BEST for my dog. I am a healthcare provider and know all too well of surgeons performing unnecessary procedures so that they can bill for them. If you too are pessimistic by nature and find yourself torn with a decision such as mine, I can assure you what you will find at FAH is an HONEST, FRIENDLY, and CARING group of veterinarians and vet techs. I'm not usually one to write reviews for places, but this place deserved as positive of a review as it can get. I had to take my 12 year old tabby cat, Reno, in because he was losing weight and not eating. Unfortunately, the hard decision was made to put him down. Jenny Johnson, the vet helping me, was super compassionate and explained everything to me so I could make an informed decision. Even the vet technicians were sympathetic and made me feel comfortable. Flash forward about a week after I put him down, I received a sympathy card in the mail from them, signed by everyone in the office. Flash forward about a month and I received a letter from the Arizona Humane Society that they made a donation in Reno's name.
