Never again. I was gaslighted about my pet's health, told that I would be hurting my dog if I swapped their diet from kibble to fresh food. The vet waited until the 3rd appointment of a problem that was diagnosed (yeast) at the 1st appointment to include a special type of cleanser that could have gotten rid of the problem faster and safely. When I asked about both issues they just repeated their answers multiple times instead of trying to have a conversation about it. To top it off the technician put ear swabs directly onto the floor prior to sticking them into my dog's ears. I would never treat someone else's pet like this and I love my dog too much to be getting care like this. read more

Took my dog Jax in for his annual vaccinations and was extremely nervous as we are newer to the area, and loved our former veterinarian team. After researching, an appointment was made with Dr. McGivern. From the second we walked in, we were greeted with Judy's friendly smile. What I loved is that they immediately take you back to the room. Jax has some anxiety around other dogs, and this was an appreciated gesture. Carol then came into our room to discuss the vaccination plan and gave me a run down of the details. She was extremely kind and patient with Jax's enthusiastic personality and she then took him for his shots. Dr. McGivern then came in to introduce herself and share her evaluation of Jax's current state. Dr. McGivern has a very warm and welcoming personality and I knew Jax was in good hands. Terrible from the beginning. I took my dog here after she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, pancreatitis, and heart enlargement at an emergency vet. She literally had just left the dog hospital days before taking her in. At the first visit they did no tests at all. I had to REQUEST for them to check my dogs glucose (at minimum)... and they come back in saying it's 6x higher than it should be (glad I asked them to check it?!?). And then they didn't run any further tests and just sent me home with my dog with a glucose level 6x higher than it should be. So then I make the mistake of going back to get a continuous glucose monitor placed on my dog. They tell me there will be a vet monitoring it throughout the 14 days (it connects to an app) and if it gets "sky high" they will call me. Well I wake up and check it and her glucose is so high it's undetectable. And it stayed undetectable for 4 hours. So I call them and they bark at me saying they "aren't a crisis clinic" and would "take a message for the vet to call me".... The vet that is already supposed to be monitoring these levels and calling ME. This place gives 0 cares. Do NOT take your animal here. read more

When we moved to the area last year with 3 pets, and then ended up picking up a new kitten (Ava) during Covid, I decided to give Family Vetcare a try. When I set up an appointment for the new kitten, I also emailed them records for my other pets and set up an appointment to have my male cat (Nacho) neutered. I asked them to add the existing pets into their system and to set up reminders for vaccines etc. I called to confirm they received everything and assumed from there that things were good to go. Fast forward to Oct 11th, I got a reminder for Ava which prompted me to call and inquire about the other animals. This is when things take a turn and I find out that although I emailed all of my pets records, they were never actually entered into Family Vetcare's system. My dogs are now both slightly overdue. My own fault for not double checking and relying on reminders. Ok Ok, that's fine... just get everyone booked and up to date. Here's what I think happens next: We book an appointment for Tuesday Oct 26th for both of my cats - one of them (the newest cat who's only ever been to VetCare) had an existing appointment that day already and the woman on the phone was able to set up an adjacent appointment for our other cat so we could just bring them in together. We book an appointment for one dog (Bijou) the next day, Wednesday, Oct 27th. The final dog (Yoda) has had eye problems which were treated at our previous vet and so has a good amount of records. The previous vet didn't send a consolidated view, the records are just in time dated order. The woman on the phone can't locate the actual date of last vaccines because it was 3 years ago and so a few pages in. I tell her I'll find the exact date myself and call back to make an appointment for this dog. I go pull up the emailed records I sent last year and confirm the date of vaccination, then call back to make an appointment. An appointment gets made for Saturday the 30th. I even bought a short snout muzzle for the visit, because the girl sounded nervous after reading records of my dog being a little difficult when poked and prodded. He's never bitten, but he snaps. Fast forward to today, I get a phone call to confirm for Nacho. When I ask about Ava, I'm told her appointment is on Saturday. Me: Umm... what? That's weird... Are you sure you don't mean Yoda? His appointment is on Saturday. Vetcare: Yoda? Let me look.... No... I don't see an appointment for Yoda at all. Me: Excuse me??? Long story short... everything is effed up. The lady on the phone tried to make it better, and I know that the people at the front desk making appointments aren't the ones actually treating the animals (thank goodness), but it's really tough to continue to have confidence in this facility when things like this happen. On the flip side, all of the Vet Techs and the Veterinarians themselves have been wonderful and have treated myself and my animals with care and respect. It's just really unfortunate that the office staff seem to be lacking in comparison. read more

I recently lost my dog, Coco. She was nearly 17 years old. I have been going to Family Vet Care for some time and every single time, Coco was treated with love and care. The doctors and staff are phenomenal, but most especially Dr. McGivern. She always took her time to explain procedures and give me an honest assessment of what was going on and what she thought needed to be done. You can tell that she truly cares about the animals and her work with them. I also had an exceptional experience with Brady, who works in boarding. Although I didn't board Coco there, Brady provided wonderful care for Coco while I was away, so I can only imagine that he provides the same care and attention to the animals in his care at Family Vet. Although I don't plan on getting another dog soon, when I do, I will bring them to Family Vet Care and to see Dr. McGivern. read more

To start let me make clear this is for the Family Vetcare of Phoenix in Chandler not Ahwatukee. First this is confusing since the business uses the same number for all locations. This fact almost made me find another vet. However the Chandler office gets 5 stars!!! We took Jeb, who was not doing well to see this "new to us" vet. The front desk is very helpful, attentive, and informative. I got an appointment the next day after calling. Jeb was not happy going to the vet. I think he thought it was another groomer, (which he has not had good experiences in Phoenix yet). Anyway, the professionals at the front desk, made him feel at ease and loved. This was a great experience for Jeb. We waited a short time for the doctor to come in and check Jeb out. She was nicer than the front desk people, which were amazing already. Another plus for Jeb. She gave him a thorough exam and concluded he may benefit from drug therapy. I was hesitant since we had another dog that had adverse reactions to the drug. She took her time and discussed what was going on with Jeb. She assured me she would take precaution and watch his blood work while he was on the medications. This made me feel better. Jeb responded great to the drug therapy. He had a follow up appointment in 2 weeks. He had no issue going to the vet. I was very happy with this. Jeb is checked on frequently. I am kind of jealous. I don't get that kind of attention and I see many doctors. This vet office is NOT near our home, but it was the location that was able to see him the quickest. I was given the choice to move his future visits to the office closer to us, but I declined since I was not impressed with the closer location. This is the place we will take our pets! New to town so new vet was in order. I received a flyer in the mail for new patient free visit as well as Petco groomer recommending Family Vet Care. I took both of my dogs on different days next to each other since it is too much too handle on one trip! All in all a good experience however it would have been nice to have the same vet for the dogs. No biggie though. I liked how thorough they are and address all issues...they really go over everything with you which has been different than other vet experiences I have had. With that being said they will also recommend every service estimated on a big bill. So best to take their expertise but also really consider if your dog needs a particular service. Went in for a first time visit to update my dog's rabies shot and it wasn't 5 minutes before they were trying to sell me things. All I needed was to update his rabies vaccine and they wanted to tack on 6 other services that would've put my bill at $500 just for that day! Not to mention the other surgeries and tests that would've cost a fortune. They didn't acknowledge my dog, interact with him or even look at him while in the room. The doctor came in for about 5 minutes to yet again, try to sell her services. Travis Wodiske, DVM is one of the nicest people I've ever met. My dog Hercules is a Chihuahua who's knee cap ripped free and relocated on the side of his leg. He is eight years old and the surgery he needed cost $3,000 to $4,000. He's the best dog so we got the surgery. a Chihuahua's knee cap is very small, so this would be a very intricate surgery. My dog healed perfectly and he can play ball again. It's like nothing ever happened. What an amazingly skilled surgeon. Beyond his skills this doctor is a real human being. He talked to me. I mean really talked to me not as a customer, but as a person. He genuinely enjoyed our conversation as much as I did, and he really cared about my dog and that shows in the excellent outcome. I was furious when I left this place. The only reason I came here because of the great yelp reviews. My dog was so patient sitting there for over 40 minutes waiting for someone to help her. The vet saw my dog for maybe less than ten minutes and came back with an estimate of $450. Yes, I know dog lovers will do anything for their fur babies but this place was a joke. I was concerned customer and instead of helping my dog they were more focused on trying to convince me to pay for stuff I have no interest in. I have been to a few great places where they showed compassion and never pushed unnecessary products or services. This place was so focused on getting as much money from you as possible. The vet showed no compassion or empathy. After going back and forth about all the services they were selling I walked out paying $216. want to start with a positive and say Dr. Gulley is really great. She has always treated myself and my animals with the utmost care and respect. She almost makes it worth it to deal with the clinic's terrible front desk staff. Background: I have 2 dogs and 2 cats of varying ages. All but one were seen at previous vets before we moved here. Issue 1: The clinic NEVER entered my pets records into their system after me repeatedly asking them to do so, emailing records multiple times, and pointing out exactly where the data they needed was. Because the previous Vet sent records in time dated format and there were multiple pages, apparently they were too lazy to actually find and input the data required. This resulted in overdue vaccines and a major headache... Issue 2: The clinic has scheduled appointments, then somehow lost those appointments, and we've had to get the office manager involved to fix yet another problem Issue 3: I noticed an abscess on my cats lower jaw on Saturday night. I called Sunday promptly at 10 to see when we could be seen. I was told their first available was next Saturday . When I asked if I could speak to the vet, I was told it's illegal for them to give advice without seeing the patient. Then told I could be put on cancellation list and call Monday AM to see if there was an opening. I called at 7:34 and was told their cancellations had been filled. When I pressed further, I was told they could consult the next Dr in at 9:30. Then after asking more questions about their cancellation process I was given a 3:30 for that day. Weird how that turned up? I immediately called FOOTHILLS ANIMAL HOSPITAL. I told them my cat had an abscess and that I wasn't a current patient but I was hoping they could help. They told me they haven't accepted new clients since February but Chris put me on hold for a moment and then came back and offered me a 9:45. . It's really sad when a clinic that hasn't even accepted new patients in months and doesn't know me from the next random person would care more for my baby than my current clinic who I've spent thousands at. Save yourselves the trouble... They might accept you as a new patient but they certainly won't care for you like an existing one. Get out as soon as possible. read more

When I first brought home my new Puggle puppy, Bailey, I was so thrilled to have a dog in the house. The store that I got her from gave me a list of various Vets in my area and said that if I took her there within a certain period of time (I think it was a week or two) for a check-up, they would cover any sort of medication or treatment she needed. Family Vetcare was the only one on the list that was in Ahwatukee, so that is where we went. Everyone was very nice to me and to Bailey. There were pictures all over the place with people and their pets. Then I started to realize that the people in the pictures were the same people working in the office . . . Very cool! At that first visit, I found out my adorable new puppy had kennel cough and worms in her stomach. Poor thing! The gave us some medication (all covered by the pet store) and we were on our way. She couldn't kick the cough, so we had to bring her back for a nebulization treatment everyday for a week (again, all covered from the store, thank goodness!). I would drop her off in the morning on my way to work and pick her up on my way home. Again, the staff was very friendly and seemed sincerely happy to see Bailey. Really, she is quite cute, who wouldn't be excited to see her?! I have been here several times now and the staff has been very friendly, helpful, and caring each and every time. I also used the boarding there once, shortly after her treatments. I thought it would be a good idea since she new most of the staff and I didn't really have the time to shop around, being a new pet owner and all. The boarding was fine, however, I have since learned that my little Beagle/Pug mix has a lot of energy, and does better with a fair amount activity during the day. That is when we found Malinda's for doggy day care and boarding. Still, I am happy that the pet store pointed me in the direction of Family Vetcare. Bailey and I have been satisfied customers for two years and counting. Oh, and for anyone that thinks I am a horrible person for getting my dog from a pet store, I would just like to point out that even dogs in pet stores need a safe and loving home. I have been going to Family VetCare since I got my little Nina in 2018. Started at the Mesa location but now going to the Phoenix location since its closer to home. All employees from the reception, to the tech in the room, to the doctors have always been very nice and professional. My Nina is a sweetheart but gets nervous around strangers and they've always been very understanding and accommodating. At every visit they make sure you understand your dogs health/problems, what is needed, what is recommended and what is optional and they're always upfront about costs. They keep up with Nina's vaccinations and will remind me if I fall behind/forget. Nina got her teeth cleaning done today with Dr. Gulley, and although I was a bit anxious, it all went smoothly and everyone was so kind to reassure me it would be okay but would call If any issues. I took my cat to the Family Vetcare in the Ahwatukee/Phoenix location since I had a great experience my first time with my other cat at the Chandler location but I had mixed feelings at this location (Phoenix) since I have a good judge of character and I just felt a sense of unwelcome feeling with both the tech and the vet doctor. Ok let me start this review out by telling you like it is: This is a great place to come. They even figured out how to make the building correctly, because the 'IN' door and the 'OUT' door are separated so your dog that's crazy from being at the vet and having a thermometer poked into its butt doesn't have to interact wtih dogs that just got there and don't know about the thermometer thing yet. Also, I only talked to one vet, but these guys know their stuff, and they don't try to sell you a bunch of extra junk or smooth talk you into leaving with a bunch of doge food and putting flea medicine on yourself or anything - it's all on the level. The vet we visited knew how to handle dogs and how do I know? Because my dog is a great dane and she weighs 120 pounds and if you mess with her she'll eat your face! And the vet was playing with her on the floor within 5 minutes and nobody's face was being eaten! He's like a pro! And he looked at her and checked her teeth and even her blood and everything went smooth. Basically stop wasting your time if you go to another vet - why don't you do some research first and figure out where the best place is because it's here! read more
