My partner and I decided on a whim to check out For Pizza yesterday (7/4/24.) She is a big fan of bar pizza, and we were excited to see if For Pizza lived up to the South Shore reputation while being north of Boston. CliffNotes version: Yup! We walked in and Aaron immediately welcomed us warmly, relaxedly. (Speaking of warm, it was another super muggy, hot day in greater Boston. It was very warm in the store, and it's a testament to the staff that they all seemed to be in good moods.) The menu of specialty pizzas is pretty impressive, and of course, there's a build-your-own option, including for plant-based diets. Because leftover pizza can be a good thing, we decided to do two pies. Beth chose the "Honey Roni" (pepperoni with hot honey). I asked Aaron to choose for me between the "Bocca Calda" (Italian sausage, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, jalapenos, garlic) and the "Mustang" (pepperoni, hamburger, and a house hot chili oil). He declared it worthy of doing a half & half. (They do this regularly, but it was fun to pretend we birthed something new. lol.) And because I'm a sucker, I also decided to order their Garlic Cheesy Breadsticks. The pies would take about 20 minutes, so we took a wander around Medford Square. Coming back, we observed the same welcoming behavior towards everyone who came in - delivery person, family, or whomever. Again, impressive in the heat. We took our pies home and jumped in. Everything was cooked perfectly. The pies have that crispy cheese lace at the edges as one should expect from a bar pizza. thee crust was delicious as were the toppings. My only small complaint was that there could have been more dipping sauce for the breadsticks, but then again, I didn't expect to be getting essentially a 3rd pizza for an appetizer! We will definitely go back. There aren't a lot of bar pizza joints in the Somerville/Medford area. Not with the variety of options are For Pizza. When the weather cools down, I'd be happy to eat inside the restaurant because the vibe was right. As a pizza fan, For Pizza is a win. read more

We have a winner. I happened to walk by and saw that they sell slices, so I popped in to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised to see that their style of pie is a bar pizza, which is popular in the South Shore area of MA. I haven't seen much of those around here (North Shore for life!) and hadn't tried one before. I ordered 2 slices of cheese and this was *easily* one of the most satisfying bites of pizza that I can remember. Crispy, melty, salty and a little smokey (?) from the perfect edge of crispy cheese all the way around. The cheese goes edge to edge. There is no non-cheese real estate in this neighborhood. It was so good that I had to down 2 more slices. The owner, Aaron, was very personable and the restaurant was super clean and looked new. The other pies on their menu sound awesome so I'll have to be back and I think this will be one of my go-tos for sure. read more

Walked in with a large group around 4pm. Aaron took great care of us - offering to rearrange tables and chairs to accommodate our party. The pizza was delicious. Great pizza place, especially if you have gluten allergies. Lots gf people rave about the crust and it's good, but I think the sauce makes it. Might ask to keep in oven a bit longer, but otherwise one of the better gf crusts. What makes this place great is the friendly owner and the way he manages his team - very "The Bear" like. Noticed this new pizza (to me) place in Medford Square last week. Gf and I decided to check it out next time we were ordering pizza. Well, that urge came up and we ordered a pizza w/extra cheese, and pepperoni's, along with a side of meatballs! Wow! Happy to report the pizza was delicious. The pepperoni was so fresh and tasty. The crust was excellent! Really...a great little pizza! And we had the meatballs with some of our own pasta and gf just raved about their quality and taste. My mom and I ate here last night while in Medford for a show at the Chevalier Theatre, and we were both really impressed! I had the honey roni pizza, and she had the Hawaiian and opted for ham. Prices are definitely a little more than the norm for a pizza place, but it was well worth it for the quality of the food! It had never occurred to me to try hot honey as a pizza topping, but it paired with the pepperoni perfectly. The sauce/cheese toppings ratio was perfect and one pizza was enough for 2-3 meals easily. I tried the Nashville Hot pizza with Fried Chicken as the option. I was really looking forward to it. However, I was disappointed in the result. When I picked up the i asked the gentleman at the counter what heat level I could expecting this pizza. He said he would read it at about seven out of 10. Later I would find out his estimate was spot on. However, everything else about the pizza was disappointing. If there was any fried chicken on the toppings, then I would have needede a microscope to find it. The sauce? Tangy, but I would describe it as much as sour as it was spicy. Not terrible, but just not that great. Crust? Medium thickness and really nothing to write home about. At $19 for a medium size pizza I will not return to this place again. Sorry. read more

I'm from the South Shore where nobody ever stops going on about bar pizzas. This place runs with the best of them idc. They do a house made vegan mozzarella and pretty much just let you build your own pie. A lot of places with vegan pizzas get too cute about it and try to get you eating a slab of tofu and sod on a slice. These guys keep it simple and it works out great. read more

Long-time customer at this point and I have been extremely patient with repeated delays in pickup times but I can't do it anymore. Pizza quality and consistency is great-to-excellent for this pizza style. Well done on that. The issue is that nearly every time I order and pickup they blow the expected time by at least 15 minutes. Tonight was 30 minutes late and I've reached my limit. My friend happened to arrive for the same pickup time (5:45) and he had been gone 25+ minutes before I got my order. They are apologetic each time (I'd rather they admit they clearly lost or misplaced my slip!) but it's so commonplace that they are not a reliable choice for pizza pickup for me any longer. read more

Really don't like to give bad review but I feel I have to. For the last 2 times, I ordered barbeque chicken pizza with green peppers and Olives. I don't know why they keep doing this but no barbeque sauce anywhere on the pizza. Furthermore, there were onions again (which I am alergic to). Superb. Full disclosure, this review is based on one appetizer, but my experience will have me coming back. I ordered garlic bread with no cheese. The server picked up that I am dairy free and asked if I wanted to substitute vegan cheese which I did. The order was made fresh and I ate most before I even got home. So, great food (at least the garlic bread with vegan cheese), great service, and affordable options. Gave For Pizza a try because I'm a Barstool Spots fan and truly enjoyed myself! The pizza is fresh, the crust is crispy, and the size of one is perfect for one person so grab a few and share - each pie comes with twelve smaller side slices. We ordered the pepperoni pizza which was just superb. Their gravy is one of the best tomato based in the Boston area, savory and muddled with sweet tones. Excellent proportion of pepperoni as well! I was more excited to try the cool ranch pizza, which we ordered with the chicken and bacon. Unfortunately, this one fell flat for us. There isn't any sauce on the pie outside of the ranch drizzle on top, which made it very dry. The flavor of the ranch seasoning just wasn't present even though we could see the crumble on top. I'd definitely suggest adding a white sauce with the ranch seasoning inside of it to boost the pie, or just have your own to dip in on the side (we did this and it made it so much better). Definitely would order again, would just stick with their tomato based pies! Enjoy! read more

So I had heard on a Facebook group that I am on about For Pizza, how they were serving up a version of South Shore Bar pizza. As the people who work here would tell you, it is similar but with their own twist. That said, it is fantastic!!! Crust holds up extraordinarily well against the toppings, and there is minimal flop on the slices. All of their ingredients seem to be of the highest quality. Pizzas are specifically intended to be for 1-2 people. (Maybe a bit small for 2 adults if you aren't having something else with it, but a great size for 1 person who is hungry) -- but I could argue the pricing takes the size into account. We tried the Americana (and went with Buffalo sauce, and fried chicken) -- you could go Buffalo, Nashville, BBQ and then you could go fried or grilled); and we also got a Greek salad. The salad was freshly prepared (vs some places that will make the salad up ahead of time and flip you a lovely plastic container containing a salad made sometime in the prior day or two). Dressing was great as well. I cannot wait to go back and start working my way through the rest of the menu. There is no shortage of pizzas that looked outstanding. Maybe just as importantly as the quality of the food though is the group of individuals they have working there. While there were clearly a bit busier at lunch today than they might have originally planned on, they all had smiles on their faces and were very engaging with the customers. It seems that they are still going through the pains of getting up and running, but again, when you do your job with a smile on your face and a positive disposition it goes a long way. Is this the first bar-type pizza North of Boston? I have been waiting for an option like this for quite some time! A thin but not too thin pan pizza that's nice and crispy. Sauce and cheese goes out to the edges to form a tasty caramelized "crust". I tried the plain cheese and the Nashville Hot Chicken. Both were delicious. The Nashville was sweet and spicy and was my favorite. I also had chicken fingers with a honey mustard dip and honey bbq fingers. Both were great, much better than standard "House of Pizza" appies!
