I have been going to Mama Lisa for over 30 years. I remember walking home from school and getting a dollar from my parents daily, to get a slice. it was the highlight of my day, everyday!! Sadly, I don't know what's happened to this hidden treasure! What used to be the most delicious Pizza, it is now a Hockey Puck. I ordered a large 1/2 cheese, 1/2 Pepperoni. First of, I was charged 28$ for a half cheese pizza, who does that?. The Pizza was burnt, no sauce, the dough was chewy like rubber. worse pizza ever in life!! This was my go to as a kid just ordered for pick up and before I even had a bite there was a bad taste in my mouth. THEY CHARGED AN EXTRA 12 PERCENT FOR USING A CREDIT CARD! Total was $22.59 I handed over my card and driving home saw they added $2.54 to my total for using a card! I called and asked why they didn't mention any fee and the guy said there's a sign on the register. Credit card fees are 3 percent this was FOUR TIMES THE FEE. They are actually making four times more when you pay credit card. Total BS we'll never go back I hate that shady dishonest crap. read more

Visited my home town of Somerville after living in Texas for the last 15 years. My first stop was Mama Lisa's for an Italian sub. Just the same as it was in the '70s and '80s which is to say amazing. Still making their subs with the soft sub rolls and crazy delicious cold cuts! One of the owners actually stopped by my table and told me the history of this incredible establishment. As a plus you can still feel a little of the vibes of the history of the neighborhood back in the days when the Winter Hill gang ran everything. read more

Picked up a few pizzas tonight for the first time in 15 years. I can appreciate all different types of pizza but when you want that thin crispy crust with the perfect sauce to cheese ratio and cooked just right; it's hard to find. Mamma Lisa's Pizzeria has one of the best pizzas I have ever had. It was my first love as a young child, going there with my parents on a Friday night to pick up a delicious classic cheese pizza is one of my fondest memories. Tonight I was so happy to find that nothing has changed. The service was fantastic and it was great reminiscing about my childhood while I was waiting for my pizzas to cook. A++ in my book! (For those who loved Bianchi's on revere beach, this is better! (I, too loved bianchi's, so this isn't a bias opinion. Just being honest). Used to be a FIVE STAR place... I have been a FAN of Mama Lisa's Pizza since I was a kid. Not only have the always had the best slices, the best chicken parm sub, delicious steak bombs, nice salads, and the best calzones, - they're nice. A little pizza and sub shop with friendly faces. I've always been happy to support them. Now.... I'm not sure what's happened, but they have gone downhill over the past year. The quality of the meat in the steak and cheese/steak bombs is terrible. The last time I ordered one I had to spit most of the meat out due to the poor quality. It was DISGUSTING. Recently I ordered the chicken parm sub. So delicious!! Unfortunately, I also recently ordered an eggplant parm. All I can say is that some Italian grandmother is rolling in their grave. The eggplant was not thin or properly breaded. Chunks of nasty eggplant that wasn't breaded properly was just hidden under sauce and cheese. I am so disappointed. Italians of Somerville and Medford would never allow this eggplant sub anywhere near their tables. I'm having nightmares about this. On top of it all, the prices went up last year. I can live with that because it's only natural and will happen over time. The prices are average for the area. FYI - there are a ton of pizza and sub options nearby. Dear Mama Lisa's Pizza, please please please cut the greed and laziness. You guys are better than this. I will occasionally come back for a chicken parm, but never again will I order eggplant parm or any of your steak subs. My father doesn't have a Yelp and legit called me to post this review. He called back to tell the women who answered the phone that it was the best Margarita pizza he's ever had in 62 years. When he was talking to her she was so appreciative because her father just passed away, who has owned this place for over 40 years. She's definitely taking after her fathers footsteps, if not better. This is one of my favorite pizzas in the world--growing up, it was the prototype for pizza. My favorite pie to order is pepperoni and onion. They slice the onions super-thin so that every bite has just enough delicious onion flavor. The crust is thin (but not really New York style) and the sauce is sweet. Mmm. I also like the house special and pretty much every topping combination I've tried. Honestly, it's easier for me to provide don'ts since I like their pizza so much: 1. Don't get extra cheese. It's just too much. They take extra cheese very seriously at Mamma Lisa's. It gets out of control. 2. I don't really like their green peppers. They saute them before adding them to the pizza, and I think it gives them a bitter taste. My mom actually specifically loves Mamma Lisa's green peppers for the same reason, so your mileage may vary. Parking is not easy for carry out. I recommend going with a friend so one person can drive and one can run in. They also deliver and typically stick to the time frame quoted on the phone. read more

My favorite pizza place in Somerville. First things first, amazing job with the peppers and mushrooms pizza. A combo people usually don't get but I was thrilled with the generous toppings and how well cooked but not dry the ingredients were. Perfectly cooking topping you could say. The Buffalo chicken pizza was also good with breaded buffalo chicken in hearty chunks. Very nice guy who answers the phone which felt like great customer experience when ordering and asking questions. The website said no delivery fee, so I called, ordered a large sub, and then was told there is a delivery fee of 3.00. I was then asked me if I wanted to tip the driver which I did for 2.00. Total for a sub was 18.11 . The Driver came and was so hostile. The worst Human Being I have dealt with this year! I am disabled, and he yelled at me for having to bring the sub up to the 2nd floor. I honestly thought he wanted to fight me. The worst delivery driver I have ever met in the 45 years that I have ordered food! This is my second trip since the ownership change and regrettably it was even worse than the last. there's something incredibly sad when a place that has been a legend for so many years and has been a go to for all of those years disappears and is replaced by something so inferior. I kind of knew I was in trouble this trip when half of the restaurant has been renamed Mama Lisa's mystical cafe. Apparently they sell Akai beverages and jewelry, but back to the Italian section, I had a slice of cheese pizza and a slice of the spinach calzone. The cheese pizza was thicker and so much less tasty than the original mama Lisa slice and the spinach calzone was made with American cheese instead of feta And had a kind of offputting taste to it. Two bites of pizza and two bites of spinach calzone does not a Lunch make nor does a return trip make. So sad to say goodbye mama Lisa, at least the memories are good. read more
