Our server was excellent & very patient on a very busy night (Nicky). Room was also very pretty. Became full while we were there before a show at the Chevalier Theater. Food was pretty good! My son had Chicken Parm, a plate he licked clean!! Red sauce was delicious!! I had Salmon & Vodka Penne, which was good as well, but VERY rich. Espresso martini was a little watery, wine delicious. Was looking for good Italian food on a Friday night that was different. Read the Yelp reviews and I thought why not. Took my son there and boy were we happy we went! Started with the tomatoes and mozzarella -- superb. Tomatoes were full of flavor and the mozzarella was soft and sublime. Onto the bruschetta -- again great flavors that all stood out. For entrees I had the mushroom pappardelle pasta. Huge portions and perfectly seasoned. Lots of mushrooms, well prepared. And for dessert, the pistachio gelato which was again wonderful. Service by Jennifer was fantastic, even though she was running around from table to table. She was helpful and very pleasant. Ambiance is modern Italian. Very neat, clean and charming. Very cute little restaurant that is larger than you would expect looking from the outside. Prices were reasonable and portions were good. My friend and I thought the food was a little bland. She got the lemon risotto, which was not very lemony, and I got the chicken picatta which was also a bit flat. Their picatta is served with veg and not pasta. I ordered a side of fusilli, which was the standard boxed corkscrew noodles and not the long fusilli noodles that many other Italian restaurants serve. Wanted to give this place a huge shoutout for their excellent service and food. I have been coming here for awhile now after trying it for the first time a little while ago. The service is great, with friendly staff and fast service. Ive had pizza and pasta here all phenomenal and really delicious and at a great price. I really enjoyed the clams spaghetti I had the other night. Dessert is also great with fried dough and Nutella dip. I haven't tried the others yet, but plan to. Overall a great italian spot. Parking is tough, on street & metered. We were greeted and seated upon arrival. The restaurant is spacious with space in between tables. Service was normal, not overly nice but not bad. As an Italian-American I do rate Italian restaurants harder than any other type of food. The bread and oil served was a nice welcome. It wasnt because the bread was good it wss okay. It was the olive oil, true Italians know good olive oil is key and they got the good stuff. The Arancini is one of the best in Boston I have had (probably due to the lack of authentic cooks in the area). This is a street food, this one is clearly frozen but still good. The truffle pasta, was perfect. I would absolutely recommend the pasta here. Cooked to perfection. The quality of the ingredients was 5/5 on this dish. The Sicilian pizza, i really wanted to love it. They have the authentic pizza oven, and I was expecting out of this world. What I got was just normal pizza. Now this doesn't knock the pizza was decent,but it didn't knock my socks off. Once again the ingredients used was the shining star in all of it. I ate it felt light and not bloated. We came across this restaurant and learned that the owners were from Italy so we decided to give it a shot. We had a pizza as an app - 3/5. Not great but not bad. The scallops as an app were good. Main Course: Pasta with mushrooms- very good. Pasta Bolognese- very good. Lentils/Sausage dish- very good. Desserts: Profiteroles: The worst that I have ever had. I would not dare order these in certain restaurants but these were embarrassing. I would have been ashamed if I were the owner of this restaurant and responsible for this recipe. Came here on a Saturday evening for an earlier dinner and the place wasn't too busy, but it filled up quite quickly. We came with a reservation regardless so were seated pretty fast which was nice; the space goes quite deep so there are a lot of tables, all of which weren't visible from the entrance. Our server was quick to get us serviced and food came out in a reasonable amount of time which was nice. They weren't great about refilling waters, but that was the only real complaint with the service. The menu had a good mix of Italian dishes and the apps weren't all too bad - the calamari tasted nice, but nothing special or out of the ordinary. The salad was nice honestly - fresh greens and good amount of toppings. The pasta was a bit disappointing portion wise, but the taste was fine. I enjoyed dessert the most - the little fried dough and chocolate was a great portion size while the tiramisu was well made and tasted good. Overall, I probably wouldn't return given this spot wasn't unique in any aspect, but if you're craving Italian, it was a solid spot in downtown Medford. read more

Compared to the many italian restaurants in the area, Real Italian Gusto doesn't stand out. We walked in without a reservation on a Friday night and the whole restaurant was packed. The only seats available were at the bar. What we ate: - Eggplant Parm (PARMIGIANA) appetizer. It was decent, but I wouldn't order it again. I prefer a crispier parm. - The highlight was the Bolongnese Paparedelle which was great and aligns with what lots of other reviewers say. - 4 Cheese Rigatoni: Solid dish, very heavy but then again it is a cheese sauce based. Overall the food was decent, the bar service left a little to be desired and there are better restaurants at the same if not lower price points around the area. read more

The food + atmosphere + service was awesome. The three of us shared fried calamari and "Artichokes in Rome." The calamari was delish but we wished there was more sauce for them because that was equally delicious. The artichockes, well, I don't think sublime captures the experience. It appeared that Roman style artichokes were wrapped in prosciutto and broiled, where the crispiness of the ham played off the delicate interior of the artichokes like nothing I've had before. The salmon entrée was cooked perfectly (even though I wasn't asked) with just enough medium rare center to be considered a model of how to cook salamon. Six of us had dinner at Real Giuseppe before Thanksgiving. My expectations were high because we know the owners are real Italian from the north I believe. They know the obvious difference between Italian and Italian American cuisine. We found the arancini to be ok but not very good. Nothing like the flavor of those in Sicily probably because the Italians use different or fresher ingredients. The big disappointment were the Jewish Artichokes. They were not very good at all. They were not crispy or tasty at all. Unfortunately we had just had some top notch ines in Trastevere in Rome that were to die for. The third and fourth dishes were pasta and fish respectively. They were good but not great. However it was good to go to an Italian restaurant that featured a menu with 5-6 courses. It was a late work night for me. I walk by their sign frequently advertising pumpkin ravioli. I decided tonight to try them and was I ever disappointed. I ordered 2 of their pumpkin ravioli dinners for $26 each. I brought them home and the bag had two little containers of raviolis, no bread, no napkin no nothing. The raviolis were cold, like no sauce. They were small about 1". There wasn't enough to fill a child's dish. I'm sorry this is most definitely not real Italian. Italians don't let you leave hungry. We had dinner reservations at 4:45, we wanted to get there early to leave plenty of time before a sold out show at the Chevalier Theatre. The arancini order comes with just two, so be prepared for that (because I wasn't), and to be honest it was a dish I would pass on next time. It was a bit dry. I ordered the Chicken Marsala which also lacked a bit of flavor and for the price I expected the green beans to be at least trimmed. I want to say maybe the food was just ok because they were prepping for a big crowd, but when we got there we were maybe one of four tables. However the service was amazing, the wait staff was on the ball and grabbed everything in a very timely manner. Also super polite. Real Gusto makes one of the best pizzas in Greater Boston--and I've been to them all. Its unique pesto tronchetto is so delicious it should create a line out the door. But on a Saturday night, the place is mostly empty. Why? Because the people who run it don't understand atmosphere. The lighting is too bright, the decorations are tacky, and the music is cheesy. That is, it's not cool. It's not appealing. The owners need to visit places like Picco, Salty Pig, and Coppa in South End; Jinny's in Newton; or even nearby Semolina in Medford, and then make Real Gusto more like these 21st century places. If not, I'm concerned that Real Gusto will go out of business, and I don't want that to happen. That's why I hope the owners see this review and don't take offense to it and become defensive, but rather hear important feedback from a sincere customer, and modernize, bringing the restaurant toward its potential. read more

Saw this place on Phantom Gourmet and decided to try it. The service, drinks, and facility was 5 stars. The food was a different story. I had the carbonara. There was very little pancetta, maybe a couple small cubes, the pecorino was non existent, the sauce really tasted like pasta water and nothing else. Immense disappointment from a place I had high hopes for. Also tried a slice of pizza, again flavorless. My daughter had a similarly poor meal. Too bad, really good people and facility.
