Goooooooood heavens. My first time at Forage and I'm actually a little bummed I've never been here before. I got the Forage breakfast sandwich and a bagel and cream cheese for my daughter. Everything was incredibly flavorful and the cream cheese was SO good. I had also gotten an iced coffee special which was good. I think the coffee was good, but not out of this world good. The specialty is the food, which is totally fine & understandable. I will gladly be back to try more food items! Service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. This was a neat and large place. Parking lot was a nice touch. Having the ability to park when stree parking is iffy - amazing. The bagels are made on site, and the pastries looked good. But it looked like a large cafeteria almost inside. Lots of windows and lots of tables. The line went quick. The human at the counter was polite, quick, and answered my questions. When my food came out, someone came from the back and handed it to me with a positive demeanor. Loved that. But the food was just okay. It looked better than it tasted. We ended up here after another spot was not great quality and overall disappointing. With it being so close to the other spot it was a no brainer to check it out. The pictures of the bagels and bagel breakfast sandwiches was a big selling point. Once we got inside and saw the specials board it was an even better choice to swing in. For seasonal drinks they had a honey cinnamon latte as well lavender latte. As well as their current seasonal cream cheese being honey lavender flavor. Line was long and place was packed by the time we got here but line did move quickly! My wife got a salted bagel with the honey lavender cream cheese and an iced lavender latte. I got a plain bagel breakfast sandwich with sausage and an iced honey cinnamon latte. Despite the line moving quickly the wait for our order did take significantly longer including many who ordered after us receiving food and drinks quicker. I think we would take advantage of online ordering next time! Both drinks were tasty and bagel breakfast sandwich was tasty. My wife loved the cream cheese but wished the bagel was not as tough. Overall the bagels being made in their wood fire oven give such a great crisp. Despite not being our original destination they delivered a far superior experience than our first stop. Finally!!! I finally made it! I have been wanting to visit for a while now, however, I don't do well with crowds or have the patience for circling around for parking. As luck would have it, I was passing through on Friday around 8:30am after a coffee meeting and there was parking! It's accessible for all. Ramps and stairs There are off street parking spots - dedicated for the Market. The space is quite large, the order counter is quite small relative to the size of the space. Luckily, the service is fast and efficient - they moved people through so fast, there wasn't time for a line to form. I was welcomed to the counter and was easily able to see what bagels were still available. My baseline is plain...if they can make a good plain bagel, I will be back. I was pleasantly surprised. The bagel was still warm (not toasted) and I was able to buy 4 plain. Thy were crusty, chewy and delicious. They were very hearty, perfect for a sandwich and just as good with plain cream cheese. I definitely will return when in the area if there is parking. I would definitely recommend if you want a tasty bagel. read more

Our go to bagel place. When we are out of town every other bagel place pales in comparison! That wood fired bagel slaps like no other. I do plain or sea salt, double toasted with veggie cream cheese on the side (so it doesn't melt everywhere) & we carry everything but the bagel seasoning from TJ in the car to liberally sprinkle on top-so we take the bagels to the water & eat with a view. They also have very tasty coffee-especially this time of year, they have a caramel apple chai that will (sorry for the cliché) knock your socks off. Service is always friendly & efficient. Private lot & street parking. They are pretty busy most "breakfast" hours but especially on weekends. The parking lot reflects this. Online ordering can be an hour or more, but sometimes we chance it & go in and it doesn't take nearly as long. Hit or miss with waiting, but it's worth the effort. read more

Without question, Forage Market's fire roasted bagels are among the best in Portland. We went around quarter to one on a Saturday (they close at one), parked in the lot, and walked right up to place our order. There was no waiting, and the person who took our order was friendly and helpful. They had just plain and everything bagels to choose from, I had a plain bagel with caper dill cream cheese and an iced chai. We also had a vegan breakfast sandwich, an orange spice latte, and a piece of the vegan chocolate orange cake. Everything was out of this world delicious, with the exception of the iced chai. We got a lox sandwich. There really wasn't much lox, which was disappointing. I probably should have just went with an everything bagel with cheese. The bagel was super crispy, which was nice. It''s been over a year since I visited Forage Market because Invisalign made it impossible to eat, but I've finally been back! I stand by my last updated review: 1) Online ordering is so easy to use; the pick-up is so seamless, too. When you enter, just look for your name/your order in the vertical cube storage. Our food has always been ready exactly when we ordered it for both "ordering now" and getting an estimated time for when it would be ready (which, to be honest, can be upwards of 45 to 55 minutes), and "scheduling an order for later" (which is what I recommend doing). The texting system to let you know it's ready is also super appreciated. 2) That they have a parking lot! 3) I only ever get the same thing: a Vegan Breakfast Sandwich (a thick slab of vegan "eggs", fakin bacon, creamy aioli, and lots of greens and tomatoes on my choice of bagel - usually an Everything or a Salt). It's always really fresh and just the right amount of filling. Admittedly, these are not my favorite bagels in Maine; while the top half is where all the seasoning and good textures are, the bottom half somehow feels tough, waxy, and flavorless (I usually don't even eat it). 4) I'm not sure how long this has been around, but that Vegan Orange Slice? One of the best baked goods happening in Portland right now for us plant-based folks. It tastes like a Jaffa Cake. PLEASE DON'T GET RID OF THIS, FORAGE MARKET. 5) It can get overwhelmingly busy here; but, compared to other coffee places in town, it's a spacious building with quite a bit of seating options and a whole lot of sunshine pouring in through those floor to ceiling windows. 6) For me, the iced maple latte (with soy! no one has soy anymore, and I'm so tired of oat, so this was refreshing - but, whyyyyyyyyyy does there have to still be a $1 upcharge for non-dairy milk though?) and an extra shot of espresso is superior to a lot of the other places in Portland offering the same kind of drink. It took about 10 minutes to place my order and another 10 for it to be ready. The bagel itself was solid - nice and chewy although I missed the flame grilled flavor everyone else talks about! I enjoyed the herb aioli and other toppings on the forage breakfast sandwich. My one holdup was they took my name and phone number at the register but when my order was ready, just stuck it in the cubbyhole instead of texting/calling my name. Probably good practice to wait at the bench by the pickup orders and then grab a table! I really liked Forage, and wonder how I haven't been here before. I ordered the Open Faced Lox Bagel (cream cheese, brown trading co. lox on both sides of the bagel, capers, dill, pickled onions) and an iced chai with oat milk and lavender syrup-- a classic brunch order for moi. I'm a sucker for a stellar lox bagel, and this one was great. However, the award for 'best quality' (if we're going to compare bagel places) goes to Rose Foods. It was good, but the fish was a bit chewy and I wish I had been able to add fun toppings. The iced chai was... not my favorite, unfortunately. However, I will 100% be back--the staff seems great, and the space is incredibly spacious (akin to Arabica's old location on Congress [RIP]) and bright, perfect to bring friends, take a meeting, or just enjoy a book in solitude. The bagels have a delicious and chewy texture with a slight fired and deeper taste. The garlic aioli sauce is amazing and I would dip everything in it if I could! Espresso was smooth and rich. We came on a Sunday morning and the line was somewhat long but worth it. It moved quickly. I had a plain bagel toasted and a chai latte. My husband had a breakfast sandwich on a salt bagel. Everything was delicious. The bagels are very fresh and on the bready side. They had really good whipped cream cheese, but they put way too much on the bagel. The space inside with the large communal tables is swell. Make new friends! And you probably will be forced to when it gets crowded; the queue on weekends is a bit insane. And frankly, why such a queue? I'm giving this place four stars but I'm actually going to go against the majority and say their bagels are kind of average. Teeny-tiny menu means they know their strengths, so I went straight for the lox breakfast sandwich. My husband grabbed the BLT, both sandwiches in a salt bagel. We also grabbed two chocolate. Hip cookies and an iced maple matcha ($7). The lox sandwich was outstanding, fresh dill and capers truly rounded out this beauty - although you could put anything on these fresh salt bagels and it wild be great. I can't comment on the maple matcha, bc what I actually received was a maple-sweetened ice coffee. Bummer, as I was looking forward to the matcha, but it was delicious anyway. We tried to buy a half dozen salt bagels for the week; however, they said they couldn't do it. Service was good, we ordered a lot of food and it came out decently swiftly. We all got breakfast bagel sandwiches, to be honest these sandwiches are not worth $10. I come from out of state and I am used to nice moist breakfast sandwiches that are semi loaded. These felt like 1 small egg with odd tasting bacon. These cheese also was not there, although it was toasted pretty well. If you come here I wouldn't expect a lot of the breakfast sandwiches, overall they are bland and lack flavor. The veggie cream cheese had a little too much garlic for a morning meal but overall it had great flavor. I ordered a cold brew which had a good depth of coffee flavor. Just enough cream cheese to make it work, instead of the typical excess. Dill in addition to the usual capers and pickled onions rounded out the flavor spectrum nicely. Enjoyable without being overwrought, and an edible mini work of art. Veggie cream cheese spread from for the rest of the bagels was very soft, chilled, and slightly crunchy in tiny form. One minor issue: In covid times I support masks, I support freedom of choice to not wear masks, and I support freedom of choice for restaurants to establish whatever mask policy makes sense for them.
