I was debating between 3 and 4 stars, but considering this is a local place in Maine, let's go with 4! We went in the morning for a quick breakfast and they were busy, but nothing outrageous. We ordered two of the bagel lux and a coffee, and it took forever to get our food. Our "quick" breakfast wasn't as quick anymore. I actually had to go inside the store (we ate outdoors) once to check if they had give my order to someone else. The bagel itself was delicious and the amount of salmon was very generous. We also liked how spacious they were inside, and that they had outdoor seating. I would definitely go back. read more

I bought a plain bagel with lox spread because my hotel was way overpriced. so delicious. The guys that work there are super sweet. No line around 9:40, so got my food and beverage fast. Many condiment choices were available for my breakfast sandwich including ketchup and a few hot sauces. The atmosphere is perfect for a bagel shop, however they were playing hip hop music pretty loud on a Friday morning. I was disappointed they didn't have an everything bagel, so I went with sesame instead. We ended up ordering sausage, egg, and Swiss cheese on a sesame bagel with two coffees. The sandwich bagel was pretty average and the bagel was rather small. Nothing special about it. However, I really like their Wicked Joe regular coffee. I only just recently learned that Mister Bagel is local to Maine and not a nation-wide chain! This makes me want to jump on the bandwagon even more. Since switching jobs, I'm no longer in the heart of the Old Port anymore (sad), but now I get to try other places closer to my new office. One of those places is Mister Bagel. People in my office seem to love it, so I've been giving it a try before headed in to work the past few weeks. Pros: - Plentiful bagel options. I was a little confused that they did not have an everything bagel, until I asked and learned that the "super" bagel is their everything bagel. - Their egg and cheese is freshly fried and not pulled out of a freezer like Dunkin! They use an actual egg and actual slice of cheese. Rare these days. - Plenty of sitting area. Most people grab and go, but I'd imagine this could be a fun place to write a paper or read the newspaper while people watching. - Prices. This morning I got an egg and cheese on a "super" bagel with a large coffee and it was $4.80. Most places won't let you get away with a COFFEE for less than $4! It's a score in that sense. My large coffee was $2! - Reasonably friendly staff. They seem pretty pleased to be working where they are. - Bags of day-old bagels for THREE DOLLARS. If you're lucky enough to score these, do it. It's amazing. - Quick wait times. Your bagel is ready within 1 to 2 minutes. Cons: - As someone else mentioned, these guys don't wear gloves. It's kind of alarming. They handle the food pretty thoroughly, patting it down and flattening it, putting it in their toaster. The first time I went I ordered a coffee after I ordered a bagel and the guy said, "Oops, well, glad I didn't wash my hands yet." I think customers would get a real peace of mind if staff wore gloves. It seems like a no-brainer. - None of those cardboard coffee holder things. I have doubled up my coffee cups and my hands have still burnt the heck off. Easy investment - get those! - The bagels are not SUPER flavorful. I miss my Cote's everything bagel! I'd like to come back and try their lunch. So far this place seems pretty decent. TL;DR - better and cheaper than Dunkin; no gloves makes it sort of sad. My friend and I casually dropped into mister bagel looking for a quick breakfast option. Oddly enough I lived in Portland for 4 years and never stepped foot in a mister bagel so I thought, why not. We were greeted as we walked in which was nice. I ordered a ham and swiss panini and grabbed a vitamin water from the beverage fridge. We grabbed a booth for 2 and waited a fair amount of time. I honestly felt like it was 10minutes for the paninis ugh and I was so hungry! One of the gentlemen brought us our sandwiches and we ordered them "for here" but they came in to go bags so I'm not sure if that's how they come? The sandwiches do come with a bag of chips which I didn't realize, score! I had a bite of my sandwich and realized I was eating my friends sandwich Haha! I was able to try hers which had nice curry chicken flavors but I wanted my ham and swiss! The panini had an awesome crunch, nicely portioned amount of ham, tomato and swiss. He was not popular and in a void. Dressed like he was going to a Morrissey concert all in black... he floated around OP for a week... methinks it was garnishing attention. Realized too late we were one short and still charged :( Bagels aren't anything spectacular taste wise just regular bagels, but the appeal would be the many types of spreads and cream cheese flavors available including lox, hummus, walnut raisin, and vegan options. My favorite lunch menu items are the curry chicken panini and the curry soup. Inexpensive and super tasty. Careful though: served super hot! Like English style hot, burn your tongue. I love everything bagels but was completely unimpressed. There are characteristics a good bagel has and they were absent. I love supporting local business but for $1.25 per untoasted/undressed bagel, I would have been better off buying the frozen ones from Hannafords. This is a chain so I don't expect much in the first place and even though I have been disappointed several times it is the only bagel place within walking distance to my house so I, unfortunately, keep going back hoping for something better than last time. The quality of lox that they use is bottom of the barrel (chewy and gray around the edges) and there have been more than a couple of times that things have been left off my bagel that I had ordered and paid for.
