Stopped here for an iced coffee at a hot afternoon and were actually quite disappointed. It was $4 for for a cup of coffee with ice in it, and then we had to add our own milk and sweetener and everything. No options for any syrups or flavoring. How to add quite an amount often house in Splenda to make it okay. Definitely would not come again. read more

This cafe was such a life saver. We decided to visit Peaks Island for the views, but hadn't realized that so many places on the island close for the season, even though we were in Portland during peak fall foliage. This cafe was open and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We ordered some iced coffees and an iced chai to refresh ourselves after walking the entire island. Peaks cafe is, tbh, the only cafe that you can hide from the bitter sea winds on a winter excursion thats close to the loading dock for the ferry. However, because the peaks island community is so small and so close knit, it's almost a community center in some ways. We stopped here for food on the way in and for cover on the way out. The sandwiches are actually delicious! Their coffee is not bad and the atmosphere is super cozy. The ladies running the place were super sweet and very kind in a nonchalant kind of way. They have boardgames, they sell a few crafty items, and it's also where I met Grateful Ned! I don't know his celebrity status but Im going to give him that. Highly recommended to stop by and check out the trinkets, grab a hot drink, people watch, and fuel up for your winter island adventure. A local spot which has a quaint ambiance. However the service by the owner for my party, who were just visiting for the day during off peak season, was horrific. My party includes people who are vegetarian and gluten free and asking clarifying questions about the food and surrounding areas was responded with impatience, obvious abruptness, and a sense of unwelcome. Unfortunate since the previous owner, who we had coincidentally bumped into prior to being on the island, made the place seem quite the opposite. read more

Not particularly friendly here. I heard a lady that I assume was the owner snap at a customer not to move a chair. When I asked the lady behind the counter if they happened to have cookies, the other lady told me that they have what they have and thats plenty. This was followed by another surly interaction with another customer. Not a very welcoming atmosphere. Looked like nice souvenirs but theres no way I would havr spent another cent there. I think they have a bit of a captive market and whilst they want your money they would also really like the tourists to piss off. Next time I will bring my own stuff and keep my money in my pocket. read more

This is a great little spot for a quick bite on your way to or from the ferry port. I stopped in this morning with a couple friends for a late breakfast/early lunch. I was looking forward to ordering one of the egg sandwiches, but we were a little late for the breakfast menu (note that breakfast only runs until 11:30am). Instead, we ordered coffee, an apple pastry, and some sandwiches. The baked goods are made fresh daily. And me and a friend split a ham and cheese sandwich and a turkey avocado one. Cute cafe conveniently located right at the ferry port on Peaks Island. Initially went for breakfast, but found out that the grill closed at 11:30am. Instead, my friend and I split two sandwiches: ham/swiss and turkey/avocado. Sandwiches came furnished with a side salad. All of the food was delicious - like sandwiches mom would make, but with the freshest ingredients. The cafe also offers an assortment of pastries, baked fresh daily. The cafe offers a range of coffee and tea, but basics only. Don't expect to order any specialty drinks. Service was very friendly, like most of Peaks Island. Take the ferry to Peaks Island some guy tells me...rent a bike and ride around the island he tells me....go there for the reggae fest on Sundays he says.....WHY DIDN'T ANYONE MENTION Peaks Cafe!?! We got off the ferry around 2pm and were absolutely famished....so we crawled up the hill from the ferry looking for something reasonably priced and quick....checked yelp for some help.....DAMN YOU YELP!!!! Only $$$ places? Saw Peaks Cafe, checked it out....solid. They do simple sandwiches, some breakfast stuff, and coffee. Simple, reasonably priced (especially for AN ISLAND!), and friendly staff. Plus they have a cool little outside seating area. It's ideally located right up the street from the ferry landing. Apparently their lox is popular because they were out of it when I arrived and I was sad. Instead I tried the crab roll, twas solid. My lady got the chicken waldorf sandwich which was BOMB! Well I must say the best kept secret of Portland cafe scene is Peaks Cafe! The staff is made up of a few local Ladies that do it right, breakfast, pastries, lunch, to include Burritos anytime! The coffee is fresh CBD and the company second to none! I'd come in the off season, you may even happen in during a game of Scrabble or a fierce game of Bridge! Stopped in for an ice coffee and breakfast burrito. I chose the veggie which has onions, peppers and avocado. It was good, not great because the eggs were runny. My wife got the eggs and cheese on an English muffin which was really messy with runny eggs. The little backyard area is nice and relaxing though. read more

There wasnt anything open when we were on the island so we stopped by this cafe for some lunch. My husband and I ordered some sandwiches and to our surprise it was a very fulfilling sandwich. It had everything in there worth some fresh vegetables as well. They made it on the spot when we ordered and it tasted really good as well. It was $9 each and I think that's a fair price for what you'd get. read more

I went in the off season in April and I love this tiny place! There is outdoor seating out back and I could lay out with my dog. There were even toys for kids. Reusable mugs for coffee. They have CBD coffee! Regulars have their own mugs, which was super cute. Vanilla CBD coffee and standard French vanilla creamer you could get at the market. Basic eggs, toast and bacon - you can't go wrong. They even have bagels and egg sandwiches! :) If you're looking for a simple breakfast and you're on the island this is the place (and likely the only place) on peaks! No complaints here! read more

If you like waiting approx. 30 minutes for your breakfast, seeing flies landing all over the food, and getting your meal with a side of attitude, then by all means, come to Peaks Cafe! I came here on Sunday morning after getting off the ferry at Peaks Island. This cafe has a prime location... but that's about it. My boyfriend wanted the veggie burrito, but when I ordered it, I was told that they ran out of onions and peppers (ingredients that I consider very basic in any eating establishment, but whatever). I had to call my bf up so he could pick something else, and in the meantime, I let the person behind me in line place his order. When I was ready, the lady at the register almost took the following person behind me, then stopped and told him, "I'm sorry, I should take this customer first. She was in line before, but didn't know what she wanted." Um, yes, I did. You just failed to have what I wanted. And if you're out of something, maybe you should cross it off on your chalkboard menu. We ended up ordering a sausage burrito and a toasted bagel with cream cheese. We waited approx. 25-30 minutes, no joke. Mind you, this place isn't a sit-down restaurant with servers, and the items we ordered were not complex. At about the 20 minute point, after I saw a person who ordered after me get her food first, I nicely asked if our food would be coming out soon. Instead of an apology of any sort, I just got something along the lines of, "We're very busy, we have a lot of orders to do, be patient." When the cook finally handed us our food, she again didn't apologize... she only said that the burrito takes longer than everything else. Well, if you knew the burrito took awhile to make, then why didn't you bother toasting my bagel toward the tail-end, instead of making it immediately after I ordered it, so that it would sit around for 20+ minutes and get lukewarm and soggy by the time I got it?? Also, while I was waiting, I saw flies sitting on the bagels (they don't bother closing their bagel case, even though the case cover was RIGHT THERE), the cream cheese, the cutting board. It was disgusting. I don't usually slam businesses, but seriously, do yourself a favor. Eat in Portland before you get on the ferry. #endrant read more

This place is they Jekyll and Hyde of cafes. I've had completely smooth transactions where I zip in, get a well-brewed coffee and tasty pastry, and get on with my day. I've also had stop-ins where there's one person behind the counter making breakfast sandwiches, while a line forms to pay for items or to order. Island life? The last time I was in, the front counter staff were snippety with each other because the person using the register last didn't 'clear it out' so that the next person could ring in customers. After this was resolved, the tape needed to be replaced, so this took another 5 minutes. I just wanted to get the heck out with my coffee and catch the ferry! That said, it's an average place to stop in and grab breakfast on the way TO the ferry. Nothing fancy about it, except the (general) friendliness of the folks inside and the water views directly outside. Since this is an island, they've kinda cornered the market on breakfast places in town, so this might be your best option. If you're coming FROM Portland, you're best advised to try any of the 100 places on the mainland to grab breakfast! read more

This place is a breath of fresh air from the other resturants on the island. The service is fast and freindly and the food is wonderful. Soo glad this place opened up on the weekend's and glad I got to hit it once more before I left. They redid the space and I must say that it look amazing plus they have the outside open with nice a cozy heaters. This IS the best place for cocktails and snacks on the island. read more

My husband and I happened upon this café about two weeks ago when visiting Peaks Island. After being rudely turned away from a different restaurant on the island, the friendly service in this café was a breath of fresh air! There were two ladies running the shop at this time and all of the tables inside were empty - very quiet. We both ordered the chicken wrap daily specials with pesto sauce (me) and BBQ sauce (husband). The wraps were tasty and the accompanying coleslaw was fresh. The wait time for the food was as expected (not long). I liked the cozy ambiance of the café and enjoyed working on their jigsaw puzzle in the front window as I waited for my food. read more

Totally unassuming and totally delicious. I walked into Peaks Cafe hungry and grumpy about 10 minutes before they closed. Things were already being shut down and my hopes weren't that high. But let me tell you, I had one of the best BLTs I've ever had!!! I mean, BLTs are one of those things that are so simple but can we done really well, or really horribly. This one was great! I had it on a whole grain bread. It had thick cut bacon, big juicy pieces of heirloom tomato, havarti cheese and a dill mayo. It was excellent. I almost went back for another the next day, but ordered a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant instead. I was not disappointed. This is an awesome little place. Great food, pour-it-yourself coffee, and an exceptionally large menu for such a little place. Perfect for lunch or breakfast. They have cute limited seating and a little space outside but you can walk right down to the dock or small beach across the street. If you come to peaks on the ferry, make sure you stop, you walk right by it on your way into town! read more

There is a marked dichotomy in the reviews and I can see why. Peaks Cafe aims for funkiness just up the street from the ferry and it pretty much achieves their goal. There are just two people working the kitchen and one of them is taking orders so nothing happens fast. We ordered the "Vegetarian" sandwich and it was ok - veggies in a wrap - except that what was advertised as being in the wrap and what actually appeared were very different. I was told when I ordered that they were out of artichoke hearts. "It's an island and were at the end of our week so that's just what happens," I was told, delivered in a tone that more closely conveyed, "So just deal with it," than an apology. It was a nice, breezy day so the infamous flies that have been highlighted in other reviews were not present. My sandwich arrived after about 15 minutes with a side of desultory chips straight from the bottom of the bag. Besides the artichoke hearts, also conspicuous by their absence were hummus, tabouli and avocado. It being a chalk board menu one would think it would be easy enough to change as ingredients of the fare change, but ... Staff was generally friendly. Crowded seating inside with picnic tables out, both front and back. One orders and picks up at the counter. Tip section appeared on cc tab but I'm not so inclined when I've done all the bussing on my own. read more

This place is disgusting. The backdoor was open the entire time so there were flies everywhere. The pastries are left uncovered on the counter. When I ordered a cinnamon roll the girl behind the counter picked it up and put it into the bag with her bare hands. Seriously unsanitary. I couldn't bring myself to eat it and ended up wasting money. This is one of the only places that I've ever been to that has made me feel like calling a health inspector. read more

It's the only restaurant open for breakfast on the island in October. No public restroom. No hair nets, no gloves. Watched one lady wash her hands in the dirty dish water before preparing food. Watched another lady eat her breakfast then head back to the open kitchen to cook without sanitizing properly. The use of appropriate undergarments by staff is questionable. We accidentally dropped a coffee creamer lid on the floor and gave it to the lady so she could clean it and she just screwed it back on. The bacon was decent. read more

I spent a lovely weekend at Peak's Island and my breakfast at the cafe was one of the highlights. The bacon, egg, and cheese on a homemade croissant was the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had! (If you get a breakfast sandwich here you NEED to get it on a croissant.) I would tell Guy Fieri about the cafe but I want to keep this little gem a secret! read more
