    Veggie Miso Ramen
    Steve A.

Casual restaurant in downtown LaGrange for Asian food, but that doesn't mean it tastes cheap. Forbidden Noodle has noodles of course, along with pho, rice, and others. It has tons of things to choose from for all tastes. Good for many types of diets. The portions of the pho are pretty big and full of good stuff. After walking around a bit we came here. It was one of the few restaurants that wasn't packed. This is an order at the counter type of restaurant. Often these restaurants are pretty cheap and not of good quality. This one is better though. It's about $13 for the bowls of ramen. The Veggie Miso is the one for vegans. Has a vegan miso broth. There's baby bok choy, broccoli, green onions, ramen, seaweed, and tofu. Be sure to get the side of chili oil to put in the bowl. Even though it adds a bit of a charge, this also adds lots of flavor. The broth may be a little plain without it. Also there's other menu items like stir fries. There's the choice of proteins including beef, chicken, and tofu. Good place to get some fast Asian. It may be casual, but it's still high quality. There's plenty of ramen to choose from, including choices of these for vegans and vegetarians.

I was pleasantly surprised by this ramen shop (considering the location lol) but I really enjoyed the food. Despite adding broccoli to ramen and not marinating the soft-boiled egg, the broth and meat made up for it. The noodles had a good chew, the broth was flavorful, and the pork (although crispy like bacon) tasted great. We also got the sweet and sour chicken which had a good flavor. It's slightly more expensive than most ramen, but it is comparable to other shops near La Grange.

The prices have increased on average 50% (i.e., what used to $9.99 is now $14.99), blame on inflation or what have you... just know the prices on yelp are outdated. The place looks clean, and the ambience is modern and open The menu is pretty straightforward. My wife tells me the miso veggie soup is not as good but the stir fry ramen was very good! Pork or chicken was very tasty. We also liked the matcha tea boba as it didn't have added sugar, it seems.

Although, everything LOOKED super good it was really just meh. My husband's meal seemed pretty good. But mine and my son's were super salty. It's counter service which was fine. They do have a lot for parking.

Forbidden Noodles came in clutch when I had food aversions to just about everything except for ramen during my first trimester of pregnancy. Forbidden Noodles was the closest ramen spot, so we decided to give it a try. I ordered the veggie miso ramen, which was delicious! My only critique is that I ordered an egg and I made a note not to soft boil it because I was pregnant, but the egg was still soft boiled. Other than that, it was a great experience! I've been back once since and will definitely return in the future. While I did takeout both times, the inside is cute. Would love to din in there in the future!

Stir Fry Ramen Beef . Noodles were amazing, but the beef was a little too soft for my liking.

Before walking in, I was very cautious about what to expect. I've lived in Asia most of my life and even Japan so the last thing I wanted was some Americanized Asian food and I was proved wrong. Great customer service and overall fantastic noodles. Wish the portion sizes were bigger and this to me would be my go to when I'm missing good Asian food from the lack of traveling! Give this place a shot - the dumplings/gyozas and plain stir fry ramen are a must try

This is a cute little ramen shop. The young woman who served us was very helpful when we explained we'd never been there and asked for opinions. Ended up ordering the pork tonkotsu and some fried chicken dumplings. The veggies and pork were fresh and well cooked, the dumplings arrived piping hot and crispy. We really enjoyed the food. All that said, the dining area floor wasn't as clean as I'd have liked, and although the bathrooms themselves were clean, there was a faint odor of "bathroom."

Notice...tiny worm on napkin. I found it in the broth of the Vegetarian Miso Soup.

Well I found a worm in my Miso Vegetarian Ramen...so that was something. I've reached out to their info email address and haven't gotten a response. This was our second time eating takeout from this place and the first time gave us stomach aches, but we decided to try it again. Second time, I find a worm. So needless to say, we won't be going back. I'd like a full refund of this meal because after finding the worm, no body finished their food.

TLDR: Not authentic ramen and it came lukewarm. Probably won't come back. I came here on a cold snowy day and was hoping to get a bowl of piping hot authentic ramen. (Why I thought Downtown La Grange would have authentic ramen is a mystery.) I ordered the Beef Paitan Ramen, as per the recommendation of the restaurant staff. The broth was overly greasy without depth in flavor and, worst of all, it came lukewarm. Sigh. The beef had some good flavors but the rest of the toppings were cold and flavorless. I did like the naruto on top tho! The service was great and the staff was friendly but I probably won't come back for the food...

    Strawberry Boba

Amazing staff, clean environment, and great food! Food was delivered quickly, boba was also great --boba had small chunks of real fruit as topping which was a delightful surprise!

Me and my girlfriend came here her food was fine and great I didn't like the first dish I ordered asked if I could replace it and then did replace it but seemed like my noodles were really undercooked don't think I'll be coming back.

I was seated immediately upon entering on a Sunday afternoon, but there's only a limited number of private booths, so I was seated at a table that was right in the path of the breeze from the door. I asked if there was anywhere else I could be seated because it was very cold out that day and was told the bar was the only other option, so not the most comfortable dining experience. Staff and service were pleasant though. I also wish they had a full bar, they mostly only had bottled drinks that, which were kind of pricey. Overall, I would return if I was in the area, but it's nothing I'll be dreaming about. Maybe the other locations are more impressive.

Before dropping us off at the airport, my wife's aunt treated us (my wife, her mom, and me) to lunch. I got to choose the place, and the experience ended up being really great. Even though it looks like you are supposed to stand in line to order and pay, the restaurant also supports a typical dine-in experience. It's an open kitchen, with seating on the side. Once we were seated, we were given menus and a tablet to place our order, but our server stayed around to explain that she would be back to help us place the order. She was the only front of house working, and she was friendly and efficient, constantly going back and forth to service to-go order taking and dine-in. The one page menu has two parts: a Chinese part and a Japanese part, and had items that we call could eat. Once we placed our order, the items came out in the following order, after being made to order. Karaage ($6.95) - five pieces of all white meat chicken, freshly deep fried. Everyone liked it, though I wish the coating was crispier. Tonkotsu Ramen ($15.95) - My wife's aunt and I got this. We both agreed the broth should have been served a lot hotter, but it was flavorful. I was especially impressed with the Chashu pork, two thin but generous pieces, nicely crisped first before serving. Edamame ($6.50) - my wife's go-to when at a Japanese restaurant. Chicken Shoyu Ramen ($15.95) - Got one for my wife's mom, and then ordered another for carry-out. One has the choice of thick noodles (classic ramen), or thin, or rice noodles. Pork and Crab Meat Xiao Long Bao ($13.99 for 12 pieces) - one can ask for it prepared steamed or pan-fried. It's great value since it is machine made and guessing prepared from frozen. It's more meat than broth in the filling, and the taste and mouthfeel was OK. But I was impressed that it was offered here at all. Would get it pan fried next time. Scallion Pancakes ($6.50) - served last, this was outstanding. Very thin and crispy. Just wish it had been served first so we could all enjoy...most of us were full by the time it came out. We paid at the end through our server. My wife's aunt really liked the 'Chicago Dumpling' t-shirt that our server was wearing, and wanted one for herself. Our server did mention that they do sell it for $30, but were out of them at the moment. We were given take-home containers to self-pack, and was warmly thanked by everyone before we left. Good value food in a comfortable setting with excellent service: that's what I will remember about Chicago Dumpling.
