Hooray! I have finally found a delicious Ramen place close to home!!! On a cold, blustery midwestern night, who doesn't love a delicious bowl of broth with tasty noodles, veggies and protein?? Having tried many of the great Ramen places within the city, High Five, Wasabi, Ramen Takeya, Furios Spoon, etc., my husband and I were hooked. Oh, how we wanted something so delicious closer to home (which is the near west suburbs). After trying a few places west of the city, we pretty much resigned ourselves to having to make the trek into the city to satisfy our Ramen needs. But who wants to do that when the temp is far below freezing? Dealing with parking and all that? Enter FORBIDDEN NOODLES. Although it opened this past summer, we just had our first visit last night. Why did we wait so long?!? Oh, man, this place is good! My husband had the Pork Tonkotsu and I had the Beef Paitan, and we split the crispy brussel sprouts. We were both thrilled with our choices. the broth had such a depth and richness to it, and we absolutely loved the crispy brussel sprouts and their balance of flavors. I firmly believe this place, and all it's flavor, can compete with the big boys in the city. Seriously. It's that good. Service was very friendly and quick, and the atmosphere is a little sparse, but we came for the noodles, people, and they delivered! Currently they do not serve alcohol, but I understand that they are working on that and should be serving beer and wine in a month or so. Parking is always free and easy in the LaGrange parking structure, which is very close. Another plus compared to the city noodle shops. Give them a try Yelpers! read more

Great place located right in the middle of downtown Lagrange. Came in on a Sunday night and was greeted immediately by the owner and her husband. They both were very friendly and did a great job explaining the menu and even making suggestions. Food was served to us about 5 minutes later. My wife and I both had ramen, and it was excellent! My family and I went there a couple weeks back, and OMG I've never had any restaurant take this much concern of my food allergies! The owner first welcomed us with open arms through the doors because we weren't sure if they were closing or not. He then gave us a rundown of their menu. After I mentioned my allergies to Gluten & Ginger he excused himself to discuss things with his wife who is the amazing head chef! He came back a few minutes later to advise a full list of what I can and can't have. I selected my bowl and they warned my food will take a little longer because they're going to prep it on their single stove to avoid cross contamination! nicest thing a restaurant has done for me! My family and I sat down and were able to watch a gaming channel (which anyone with a 10 & 13yo) knows that video games=life to them. My eldest and I also was able to rock out to the best alternative music ever! They brought out the boys and my husband's food first all of it looked amazing and smelled even better. My kids devoured their food, hubby too! When I received mine, it was equally as delicious. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner/wife/ head chef & I thanked her for the care they've shown in not only preparing my food but in recommending what I can eat! First and foremost, food is amazing but the staff is even better! The staff is extremely pleasant and very down to earth, makes you feel like you've been eating at the same restaurant for years. To the nice staff- your kindness is much seen and appreciated! 2nd - as a fellow twitch streamer - it is awesome to see this location playing streams of fellow gamers! This is the first place I've ever seen do this, and was even more cool talking to the staff about this as well. Place was nice and clean. Nice, casual ambiance. I went on a Sunday evening and there was no one there. Only a couple people who came after far did take out as well. As for the food, I had the veggie ramen and I loved it! It had plenty of veggies (broccoli, snap peas, bokchoy, green onions) and the tofu was seasoned and cooked prior to being put in and tasted very good. The soup base wasn't too salty just as I hoped but also very rare for ramen. The dried noodles was very similar and my husband said he liked it. I enjoy a consistent place and a simple place. The Forbidden noodles offers both. Food is always consistent and has good flavor. I have eaten here several times now and i have enjoyed it every time. Menu is very simple. You have your noodles, your ramen and your sides and some bubble teas as well. Okay so why 4 stars ? Because there is always something missing. As I mentioned the food is always consistent and with good flavor but it always leave you wanting just a bit more flavor, a bit more spice , a bit more something. This is also a place where you order from the counter and you sit waiting for your food. There is some alternative music playing and then there are two flat screen TVs that play video games. The whole vibe doesn't really give a clear theme. Is it an Asian place ? Is it Asian fusion ? Unclear. If you are lucky and the place is not busy you won't really notice all of that but if you are waiting and waiting you start to look around. Which I would suggest offering customers dining in maybe some edamame as a snack and won't cost as much. It might even entice the customers to buy it as a side. Also a pet peeve is when restaurants charge you for hot sauce especially when none of the items on the menu are spicy. I understand you make it from scratch but I think it is about customer service. Came here with my mother after we each got a haircut. She never had ramen before, and I saw that this place was new, so we decided to check it out. The place was mostly empty, except for one other table, but that was due more to the fact it was early lunch. The girl behind the counter was polite, and she was helpful to my mom, who had some questions about the different types of ramen. We placed our orders, and went to have a seat. We each got the pork belly ramen, and an order of the pork belly bao buns. I was really excited to see the buns on the menu, as I love the texture of a traditional bun. We were served promptly, and the condiments for the ramen were plenty. I added some chili oil to my broth, as I like a little kick in my ramen. The broth was pretty good; not too salty, but still had plenty of flavor. The pork belly was okay. I thought it could have been cooked longer, as the broth made it slightly mushy. The noodles were thicker than your traditional ramen, and tasted average; nothing amazing but not terrible. The pork bun was a let down. The pork belly was good, and the addition of pickles was a nice touch. However, the bun was thin and dry. If did not taste like a traditional bun. Overall, this place was okay, but I have had better ramen at other places. This place feels like an Americanized version of ramen, so if you want a quick bowl of ramen to fill you up, then this is your place. If you want a more traditional bowl of ramen, then you should go some place else. read more

if I give this place no stars I would. The owner is rude and angry. We had to wait for over 40 minutes for a bowl of ramen. My husband was served his chicken dish 20 minutes before I saw my ramen. When we asked the owner where the ramen was, the owner screamed at us and told us to leave. Don't support a negative and toxic environment. If a customer can't inquire as to there their meal is after 40 minutes (and before you think we were rude, we were not we merely inquired), then there is a problem with the management style. Ironically, the ramen wasn't that great. Customer care and service should be a priority in service industries, but this was not the case here. There are so many other decent ramen places, ones which are pleasant and kind to the customers. I get that things happen in the kitchen but to have the owner scream because we asked if the ramen was on its way out to us is unacceptable and bizarre. read more

My favorite ramen place for ramen hands down. They don't have a traditional Japanese ramen taste, but theirs in my own opinion is better. They use premium ingredients and make everything by hand. I love tonkatsu, theirs is just so good. They use pork belly and have it cut thick and grill it then put it in the ramen. It comes off as a cross between bacon and Spam, just melts in your mouth. Very friendly and very clean here. Can be very costly for what would be a big bowl of soup, but trust me when i say it absolutely is a soulful experience that you'll want to eat everyday. read more

This is our second time back here this week! The sweet bbq bao is a favorite of mine and the tonkotsu ramen is good almost everywhere, but here I'm especially impressed by the high quality noodles and broth. We got to chat a bit with the owner tonight and learned how much research and effort went into the noodles, broth, and everyday into the pork belly and other ingredients. Forbidden noodle is to Asian/noodle restaurants as Chipotle is to Mexican... kinda. It's a fast-casual restaurant that has a restaurant with customizable options. I got the veggie miso bowl which was really, really tasty and loaded with crunchy vegetables, and I also got a pork bao, which was fluffy, warm, and flavorful. Wow! What a find. Was at the eye doctor next door and felt like having ramen. So glad I went into Forbidden Noodles. My son and I had garlic broccoli, pork ramen, pork bun and beef ramen. All were delicious. Def will be going back. I was told that the Brussels sprouts are out of this world but they didn't have any the day I visited. I am going back to try. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is my order was for take out and I waited over 25 mins. Meanwhile the order had been ready for awhile and no one gave it to me. This is really good food. The owners are great and they have authentic family recipes. Definitely ask for the homemade chili oil to add some spice to your noodle dishes. And get the Brussels sprouts. This was my first visit and will definitely not be the last. La Grange is known for it's wide array of small shops and restaurants. When I heard of a ramen shop opening up off of the main road, I'd had to stop by for a visit. I walked in, wasn't too crowded (one other group beside me) but it was still before the lunch rush. Was greeted with a warm welcome by the lady behind the counter, she explained to me what was in some of their dishes (being still new to the ramen noodle market, this was a big plus). I ordered the Pork Tonkotsu ramen dish, can't go wrong with pork belly in anything. Was given a number and my order came out rather quickly. Everything was so good from the noodles that were made in house to the bok choy to the pork belly, even the broth was so good and creamy. The atmosphere was clean and relaxing, if you're into video games, they play a live stream of Fortnite or other games (depending when you go). The price was reasonable for ramen compared to other places (10 or 11 dollars) and you get your money's worth.
