I was a little surprised when I went inside Ton-ichi. I was expecting just the basic tables and chairs lay out but it turned out to be nicely decorated inside. We were greeted and seated in a booth as soon as we walked in for a weekday dinner. I tried the EDAMAME, TONKOTSU RICH GARLIC RAMEN, and the WAGYU BEEF RAMEN. The ramen dishes were fantastic. I liked the garlic broth the best, it was so flavorful. The beef was delicious too, but I wish there was more protein in it. The service is very friendly, attentive, and efficient. The place is clean and parking is easy. They also offer rice bowls and fruit smoothies as well. I would like to try the rice bowls next time I visit. I hope they eventually have more drink options besides soda and smoothies. My ramen craving was satisfied. 'Til next time!

I was craving for ramen so I thought I would try out this spot. I had placed a take out order since it was kind of late and I wanted to be comfortable at home to eat. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and the calamari. I liked the calamari. Nice crisp, wasn't over fried, and paired well with the spicy mayo. I ordered the spicy ramen. It wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be. I liked the noodles & it wasn't over cooked. Although, unfortunately the broth was too salty for me. I felt like I drank so much water just to help with the saltiness. Also, the egg was overcooked for my liking with ramen.

loved the ramen here! Pretty big portion sizes for a decent price! I also loved the atmosphere and the design of the restaurant. The service was great, the employees were attentive and always nearby in case you needed anything.

Cute little ramen shop. I got the spicy tonkotsu ramen and it was pretty good. One thing I didn't like was how thin the tonkotsu meat was. I've been to a lot of ramen places and ive never had the tonkotsu meat as thin as they had it here. Everything else about the soup was good though. Service was good, we got seated quickly and food came out at a reasonable time.

Ramen is probably one of my favorite foods of all time, and while I couldn't give this place five stars, I am glad it exists. The ambiance is lovely (though I did take out), location is very convenient, servers and hosts are friendly and the ingredients well prepped and packed for a to-go order. I found the flavors of the wakame seaweed out of place with the pork broth, though the nori was good. The chashu pork tasted good but was very thinly sliced and was easily lost if it melted into the broth. It's a good ramen, but it would only be a dish that could tide me over until I could make it to one of my favorite places that's farther away, and sometimes that is good enough.

First visit and was impressed. The menu had a lot of variety - ramen, bento boxes, rice bowls, appetizers, smoothies, and a few desserts. We both ordered a bento box. I ordered a pork katsu bento box. Before it came out, we were served a HUGE bowl of miso soup. I'm used to getting a small cup. It was pretty good too! The bento box came with California rolls, vegetable tempura, a huge portion of pork katsu, and some white rice. The pork katsu was yummy. Service: I liked that our server explained the sauces that came out with the bento boxes. The young man could have been more friendly though. Ambiance: There wasn't anything majorly wrong... it just didn't seem "spacious". Value: The value was great coz they gave a lot of food for the cost. We will definitely be back to try other dishes from the menu.

Pork Tonkotsu. Realized there was no black garlic oil when I reviewed the menu on yelp at home

My 21st ramen restaurant review. Ton-ichi ramen is a chain ramen restaurant. I had high hopes for this place because the reviews on google are pretty decent. Unfortunately the ramen was pretty underwhelming. I would have given a 3 star but a few of the items did not look like the menu pictures, and the ingredients used were not accurate. The chicken karaage was decent. It was pretty crispy but it was kind of lacking in seasoning. This was inaccurate because they were chicken filets for some reason instead of chicken chunks in the menu. I found the breading to be slightly too thick. I ordered the Tonkotsu Rich Garlic. It calls out "black garlic oil" and it appears to show this in the ramen pictured on the menu. Except, when the ramen came out, there was no black garlic oil. Instead, there was a big pile of uncooked minced garlic... The broth and noodles were OK. I was not that happy with the egg. The egg was cold without the inside being the nice jelly-like consistency that is shown in the pictures and that you can find at other restaurants. Also, the piece of meat were very thin. One piece was also very salty. The fish cake slice was also really thin. Service was fine. I hope the restaurant can improve on these points. PS: Reading other yelp reviews right now and they called out the exact same black garlic oil issue as me.

I'm very picky about ramen, so I did not bother ordering it for myself. My husband got the ton-ichi ramen, I got the beef sukiyaki rice bowl and we shared a shrimp tempura to start with. I actually was interested in their bento boxes, but I found out that they no longer serve those anymore. The shrimp tempura were bit and crunchy. They use breading to coat it rather than a wet batter. Their marinated eggs were more firm than runny. My husband thought the ramen was just okay. The beef sukiyaki bowl was big and flavorful. It had plenty of veggies and saucy beef. It was very filling and I went home with a little leftovers. I probably could have finished it all if I didn't have the shrimp tempura. The rice bowl also came with a massive side of miso soup that had plenty of seaweed and tofu. I'd come back for their rice bowls. They also have korean fried chicken which looks promising and I'd also like to try that, too. I'd continue to pass on the ramen, though.

It's a beautiful peaceful place, I have came here for over a year now and it never disappoints! One of my favorite places to eat especially in winter:) Food is also tasteful and always filling, make sure to order their combo to get a drink and pork bun The lady name Lisa is very nice and always on top of things to serve you right away, it always brings a smile to my face when she's attending me

This the best ramen I've ever had in the west suburbs. The broth was rich and had flavor I will say I wish there was more pork but it's ok. (Ramen was so good I forgot to take a picture before I ate it) staff is very friendly and right away sit you down at a table. The inside is very clean well decorated very comfortable to the eyes but it was extremely cold like they don't have the heater on.

Food was good, we all tried something different. It wasn't my first time eating here, but it's always been takeout. Today we ate in and it was good. Service was great. It's a quiet place and I would recommend it. We also had the waygu beef ramen and it was delicious! My grandson had the ramune lychee ( he loved it) and as we were leaving the owner gave him one for the road for tomorrow!!! What a wonderful and welcoming place.

Had to try another ramen shop in the area! Especially since they had black garlic tonkotsu. The space is broken up by semi-private booths made into quasi-"rooms". The menu has quite a few options: I went with the garlic tonkotsu ramen. The broth was tasty enough, but the noodles were hard. Not sure if they were undercooked (which is what it tasted like) or if that's their style, but if the latter it holds no appeal for me. Overall, on this side of the suburbs I would suggest Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai instead.

    More steamed fat.

Well, that was a disappointment that unfortunately will plague me for the next few hours as stomach pain. I ordered the bow bonds to start, which were OK, but a lot of fat. Turns out that was the theme for the meal. Next I had item D4, the Gyu Don. This is gonna hurt. It's advertised as brisket and rice and caramelized onions and a egg on top. Turns out it's really rice, onions and fat. Major disappointment. The brisket was steamed and so much fat. I couldn't eat any of it. It actually made me ill looking at it. The egg was brown and Stone cold although it was cooked medium. Can't say I've ever seen an egg like this, but obviously it sat for a while in some serving tray getting cold. Gross. I am not from this area and it looks like this may be a newer restaurant. The only saving grace about this place is that it is next door to a poke place where I could actually get something to eat. So I left most of this fat un-eaten and went next-door.

Unfortunately my wife is vegetarian and the seafood roll included fish eggs, so that obviously doesn't work. I called the restaurant to ask if the order could be remade and simply packaged separately. At first I was told no, and after speaking with the manager it turned into an unnecessarily difficult conversation before they finally agreed to remake it. What was most disappointing wasn't the initial mistake -- those happen -- but the attitude and unwillingness to correct something that was such a simple fix. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I strongly believe that taking care of your guests and making things right should always come first. Losing a loyal customer over the cost of a few sushi rolls simply doesn't make sense. Restaurants, especially those serving seafood and shellfish, should be mindful that many guests have dietary restrictions, allergies, or lifestyle choices like vegetarian or vegan diets. Unless it's clearly stated otherwise, customers should be able to expect that separate items will be packaged separately. Unfortunately this experience has made me reconsider supporting a place I've visited and recommended many times before in Downers Grove. Hoping this is something they reflect on for the future.

The restaurant was nicely decorated with Japanese style wooden slat walls. We were quickly given two ice waters and the table had the menus and the appetizer plates, napkins, and chopsticks. We ordered two ramens: one original and one spicy. Original: Husband had this one. I tried the broth, and it had an authentic Japanese pork broth. Super rich, fatty, and umami if you like those types of flavors. Spicy: I love spicy ramens and find original broths a little too decadent for my tastebuds. So I usually end up ordering a spicy version. This broth has a light pork aftertaste with a spicy note. The corn was a surprising yet fun texture add to the soup. Bean sprouts brought an extra crunch to the soup as well. Kimchi was well fermented, and the perfect stage for adding to a soup. The noodles were al dente, but I wish they were cooked slightly longer. I'd give the dish a 4/5. The standout aspect of the restaurant was the service. At a certain point the spicy broth had gone down the wrong tube and I was struggling, lol. The server noticed and brought over extra napkins without my asking.
