Covid happened and we understand that delay, but he's working outdoors and has been working on other jobs most of that time, but we've continued to be put on the back-burner. I finally begged to get it done this summer, but we were told they're so busy and not set up to do "re-do" jobs. So I would say the original job deserves 5 stars. But the follow-up and if you need repairs on an existing job that they did, is zero stars. They should have been honest about not wanting to do the job in the first place. Again, a nice person, beautiful work, but bad communications and no help after the job is completed.

So we hired them to replace our 17 year old cedar fence(243ft of fence). Sue and Randy are very pleasant to communicate with. We live in a HOA, our back and side fence sections are shared with our neighbors. Our neighbors agreed to pay half for the sections they shared. It was a little hassle to try get all three of us on the same schedule with the down payment. Randy and Sue were very patient with us dealing with our neighbors.(our neighbors aren't bad or anything). Our neighbors were able pay straight to Essential fence, even though we were the ones that signed the contract and on the hook for the fence. Our Modified Panel fence has a 3 year warranty and the gate has 6month. Essential Fence showed up when they said they would and finished the fence when they said it would be done by. No problems. My plan was to carve something in the trunk but plans change and I had to remove the whole thing. Mike came over, gave me a very reasonable bid and he and Ryan got it done in 2 days. I have wood chips for my whole garden plus more. These two worked well together and loaded the heavy portions away. They were exceptional contractors…read more Here's why: Scope of Work - Every room in the house was remodeled (roughly 10 rooms, plus 3 baths). One wall was removed and a structural steel beam inserted, plus new footing to support the beam. The kitchen and all baths were completely redone. In most rooms, the floors, doors, lights, carpet, paint, woodwork were completely redone; extensive built-ins and cabinets were added; and two ductless heaters were installed. Work that I thought I would have to contract out separately, they were able to accomplish at prices that I was pleased with, including a Master Closet install. Upgrades that they suggested, solved problems, looked great, and were done at reasonable prices. Who are they - Family owned by two brothers. The older, Jeff, is charming, reliable, easy to deal with, excellent at communications, compulsive on CAD (so he gets the details right), a good listener, incredibly responsive, and reasonable in pricing changes. Though Jeff and his brother are both "wood guys" by background - meaning their woodwork looks beautiful and they have an eye for detail. The hands-on player is next youngest brother, Jim, who runs the job and is a joy to interact with. He is knowledgeable, with a breadth of experience to envy, straightforward, and will do anything to make the job succeed. Yet neither of these two will ever sacrifice the quality of their product. Both Jeff and Jim are innovative and gave us solutions to Master Bedroom lighting, an old-fashioned fireplace façade, and convoluted window screens that now work beautifully - meaning both functionally and aesthetically. Over-arching Criteria to Evaluate - Most of the literature on accomplishing your remodel will warn you to be prepared to lose that nice feeling you had when you first hired your contractor. That never occurred in our relationship with Millworx. They bring three incredibly important characteristics to the remodel business: (1) They are trustworthy and honest; (2) They bring really good people: both in the people that work for Millworx, as well as their subcontractors; (3) They are diligent throughout the job, are competent across a range of skills, and accomplish beautiful work. Key Words - Great craftsmanship; trustworthy; custom cabinetry; reasonable pricing; very comfortable change order negotiations; excellent design instincts and follow through; competent, friendly, communicative employees; capable, helpful, reliable subcontractors; maintained comfortable, positive relationship throughout the job; best price and best value.

I have been hesitant to write this review because I wanted to give Volkan Ironworks the chance to…read moreright their wrongs. But they have chosen not to. I am a general contractor and had a very bad experience with Volkan Ironworks. Check the other reviews, people have had a similar experience. This railing project which they forecasted to take 2 months took 11 MONTHS for them to finish! The owner, Volkan Tetik, is a dishonest businessman and I would never use him again to install a railing. Once they have your deposit money, good luck ever getting him on the phone ever again! You will never speak with Volkan, only his lower-level employees. The Superintendent in charge of my project, Eddie, was so unorganized. Management and quality control was awful. I'd say there were 10 separate occasions when they told me the work was complete. Then I'd go out and inspect the work and find a ton of stuff that wasn't done. Here is a summary of some of the issues: Their work van would pull on site with 2 guys in the front seat, but they wouldn't get out of their car. They would just sit there on their phones for hours. This happened multiple times over multiple weeks. Other tradesmen on site were laughing, "Those guys just sit in their truck and never work! How can they still be in business..." I told their boss Eddie but this still continued for weeks. I was told they fired that work crew and they hired another crew. That crew was better, but the management was still very poor. Quality control was abysmal. I basically had to take over managing their work and inspect every square inch of railing myself. Which is crazy, since in all, I paid this company more than $100,000. I made a list of all the needed repairs and babysat them for weeks while they made these repairs: -The railing they initially installed didn't meet code. The ends of the railings didn't terminate in a wall. So with the open-ended railing, a person could snag a bag or piece of clothing on the railing end and fall down the stairs. This is such a basic fundamental of railing design that I was shocked they installed it incorrectly the first time. -There were sharp places on the railing where someone could cut themselves. These needed to be cleaned up sanded or grinded down. -The railing was purchased as a kit, but for some reason they chose to use all kinds of mismatched screws in the assembly - there were Phillips head screws, square drive screws... -They left out in the rain on our newly refinished decks screws, drillbits and sawblades which caused rust staining we weren't able to remove. -They touched up the railing with black spraypaint, but didn't put down dropclothes, so they sprayed black spraypaint on my newly installed concrete. -Glass pieces weren't centered in the opening, which looked bad. -They left a mess - cut off pieces of metal and other sharp fragments were left in the patio and lawn area. -Missing screws in the railing. Screws not fully set flush. -There were many places where the black paint scuffed off and bare metal was showing. Some issues popped up with the railing a little over one year after it was installed. I reached out to the owner, Volkan Tetik, and he wanted to charge almost $2000 to come out and make the repairs. What a dishonest contractor! Never use Volkan Ironworks or Volkan Railing. It's an awful use of your time and your money!

He did the work for the prior owner so I only have this history with him: To understand what might be under warranty I called him to ask about a leaking skylight - it was a simple question and I was very polite. At first he dodged my questions saying it he couldn't remember then quickly he became very defensive, then he started verbally attacking by saying there was no way I knew what the problem was (his voice is loud and angry at this point) and couldn't know if it was the skylight that was leaking (extensive testing had been done by our contractor and it's obvious that it was). At this point he's irate and sounds like a crazy man - he said nearly yelling, "I don't even know how you got this number and why you are calling me!!" Then he hung up on me. I followed up with an email letting him know I would share my experience with him on yelp - he replied to me with a few helpful details about the window make, but then closed the email with a series of personal attacks. Issues come up with houses all the time, but when you choose a contractor you want to know that when those issues come up your contractor will stand behind their work and be professional and reasonable in their responses - even helpful. You'd like to know you could call them down the line with a simple question and they would be helpful. As you can see my experience with Jeff he was far from all of those things.
