NW Quality Construction & Hardscape - Finished backyard project

    NW Quality Construction & Hardscape

    (29 reviews)

When we bought our house five years ago, the backyard was basically a blank slate. My wife and I…read morealways talked about turning it into a space we could actually enjoy and be proud to show off when friends and family came over. Like a lot of homeowners, we spent years trying to tackle it ourselves, pulling weeds here and there and telling ourselves we'd eventually get around to the bigger project. Eventually, we realized it was time to bring in the professionals and finally make our vision a reality. I did quite a bit of research and had five different contractors come out to provide estimates. The pricing was all over the place, but NW Quality Construction & Hardscape immediately stood out. Jesus was able to come out within an hour to take a look at the project, and he gave me a rough estimate on the spot that ended up being within a few hundred dollars of the final proposal. That gave me a lot of confidence because it showed he understood the market, knew his craft, and came prepared. Once the project started, their attention to detail really impressed me. Before any work began, they carefully marked everything out and double-checked with me to make sure it matched the plan exactly. Throughout the project, they kept the worksite clean and organized. Since they were using the driveway and part of the street to stage rocks and mulch, they made a point to sweep everything up at the end of each day before heading home. Now that the backyard is finally finished, it honestly feels like we just moved into the house again. After five years of looking at an unfinished space, we finally have a backyard that we're excited to spend time in and proud to share with others. I truly appreciate Jesus and his crew for the care, professionalism, and hard work they put into this project. They transformed our backyard into a space that my family will enjoy for years to come.

    Blue Whale Sprinkler Service

    Blue Whale Sprinkler Service

I was SO impressed by Blue Whale Sprinkler Service. Levi, Kang, and their exceptionally capable…read moreteam took on a complicated irrigation repair that required far more than simply replacing a few sprinkler heads. Our system had been poorly designed and installed by a previous contractor, with a boggling number of buried pipes and connections to perforated driplines. One severely overtaxed line ran beneath a driveway and concrete wall and across challenging terrain, making its routing extremely difficult to decipher. Fortunately, I had saved some photos from the original landscape installation. Kang carefully worked through that cache of photos, identifying where pipes emerged and reconstructing how the system had been put together so the team could design something better. They are truly excellent problem-solvers. One experience particularly showed me how committed they were to getting the job right. Based partly on my suggestion, they initially excavated a location for the new valve box at the lower end of the yard, where another box already existed. Once they better understood the system, however, Kang realized there might not be enough water pressure to feed the new segments back uphill from that location. He checked in with me, explained the issue clearly, and said they were willing to proceed as planned--but strongly recommended relocating the box so the new system would work properly. They filled in the hole they had already dug, excavated a new valve box near the backflow preventer at the front of the yard, and installed approximately 150 feet of additional control wiring, all without increasing the price. They did this because they wanted the finished system to be right. That level of integrity is rare. Levi and his team were also wonderfully flexible about helping me find a practical scope of work. Their initial proposal addressed more of the system, but we worked together to prioritize the most critical repairs while allowing me to handle a few projects I felt comfortable taking on myself, including installing a new controller and completing some wiring. They even installed an extra valve for a future line and left me with parts so I can make that connection when I'm ready. I never felt pressured; I felt supported in making sensible decisions for both the system and my budget. Over one weekend, the team divided the overtaxed line into four manageable zones, installed new valves and lines, and rebuilt the section where excessive water had become a serious threat to our vine maple. They worked incredibly hard, communicated thoughtfully, and approached every challenge with skill and care. I could not recommend Blue Whale Sprinkler Service more highly. If you have a difficult irrigation problem and want a team that will think it through, explain your options, and care deeply about the quality of the result, call them.

Levi is the best! He came out on a Saturday and took care of my sprinkler issues very quickly.read more

Lawn & Irrigation Technologies NW - LAWN & IRRIGATION Technologies NW LLC

The work ends up fine, if you stay on them about it. We…read morehired LIT earlier this year to redo our backyard, build a short retaining wall, and lay new sod. We chose them because their bid came in about 30% cheaper than another company. Verbally, I said to redo the whole irrigation system, which wasn't on the bid. Adding that later raised the final price by a couple thousand dollars and I can own that, should have read it more closely...a sign of things to come. There was no drawing, no pre-work visit to discuss specifics, nothing to approve. They showed up on day one and went straight to work, great, but no communication. The wall was starting to be built in the wrong spot. Each day, I had to make it my responsibility to come out and chat about the day's work, what to expect, and how long they'd plan to be there. There was no project management at all from their side. By the end of week 1, I was losing sleep over the project, sprinkler heads were uneven, there was no indication of the appearance of the final product. The owner came by that Monday to work it out with all of us. In the end, the work looked good but it was tough sledding to get to that point. After they left, I had to clean, by hand, the backside of the short wall they had installed. They left behind concrete, roots, and rock, which looked like a garbage pile. I pulled out handful after handful, sifted it, and replaced the clean rock to make it look intentional. The sprinklers they installed were aimed incorrectly and a small triangle of sod died. They are coming out later this month to correct it. What I'm seeing now is holes, low spots, ditches forming in front of the sprinkler heads. Showing the soil underneath was put down in a sub-par manner. Mowing the lawn reminds me of how much I dislike how it all turned out. The owner said it straight to me that he knew "we'd be picky" because he saw the work my wife and I had done, ourselves, at our house. He said it looked professional. Appreciate that, thanks. Their work was not. Our neighbor (who does landscape work for a living) told us that my wife and I would have done a better job. In the end, I agreed. I did not enjoy my time working with Larry. Michelle, at the office, has been great and I appreciate her help through our project.

Simple things like mowing the entire lawn or even showing up every week was apparently too much to expect. Terrible communication. Terrible service. When I called to ask simple questions like are you showing up this week I could never get straight answers, instead they tried to guilt me into accepting their poor/no service because they were over worked and understaffed or some bs like that. ...and never an apology. They never reached out to me, I always had to reach out to them. Monthly invoices were sent of course whether they had delivered service or not. Total pain in the neck situation. I gave them quite a bit of patience and forgiveness but ultimately that was a mistake I regret. I fired them far too late. Would not recommend.
