Forest Lawn is one of my favorite places in Buffalo. It's beautiful and full of history. There are always people at Forest Lawn whether they are visiting loved ones at rest there, observing art and nature (more varieties of trees than Delaware Park and a great place for birdwatching,) history buffs (former presidents, pop icons and historical figures,) or are out for their daily run/walk/bike ride. Take the Sunday in the Cemetery tour (by reservation) or a Saturday walk-up tour (like I did) or even one of the specialty tours. You'll love it! read more

Forest Lawn is absolutely beautiful and haunting. Whenever I need to clear my mind I take a really long walk though the cemetery. It is so peaceful. My favorite time of year there is the fall when all the leaves change, but it is lovely all year round. It isn't a place where you should be loud, it is a place for quiet reflection and reverence. Some people forget that it is a cemetery and that you need to respect the dead, but if you remeber that it is a perfect place to get lost in the beauty. It's also really interesting to see all the old grave, some going back well over 100 years. read more

Came here on Sunday with Bradley to explore. Some people may think a day date at a cemetery would be creepy, but I'm not those people. It was my first time here and Bradley said he hasn't come since he was in elementary school. It was great to just explore. So much history and beautiful sculptures and art. It was very peaceful. We parked at the mausoleums and just walked the whole way. We came across a pond with benches and sat there and relaxed for a while. It was all kept so clean and tidy too. No overgrown grass or weeds, I didn't see any trash. It was a great day. I would definitely recommend exploring and seeing a different history and a different side of Buffalo. read more

Forest Lawn is a historical gem in the heart of Buffalo. Adjoining Delaware park, there's a number of different entrances. You can take a tour, or you can wander around by yourselves, like Lee and I did. There are a number of beautiful lakes and a lot of old trees in the park. And there are hundreds upon hundreds of examples of excellent funerary art. You have the Blue Sky Mausoleum, which is based upon Frank Lloyd Wright's plans, intended for the Darwin Martin Family (he ran out of money before he died so his burial place is much more modest.) There are also some impressive Art Deco and Arts and Crafts influences mausoleums and headstones. There are many interesting historical people buried here, from pop culture icons (Rick James) to more modest inventors (Willis Carrier, inventor of Air Conditioning) to president Millard Fillmore. It's definitely a must visit if you are at all a fan of Buffalo's history, or are a person interested in funerary sculpture and art. read more

Forest Lawn does a holiday show yearly called: It WAS a Wonderful Life. Written by a local writer and musician, and has been readapted over the years. The characters in the show are people who are interred in Forest Lawn, and they tell holiday stories and sing songs for about an hour and 15. The material is informative and charming, and the Christmas songs really get you in the spirit. I directed the show this year, and was one if the original cast members - I play Robert Adam, the man who started AM & A's Department stores. Other characters included Mary Talbots, Frederick Cook, Agnes Ethel Tracy, Charlotte Mulligan, Dorothy Goetz Berlin, John Lay and others. There's a pop up gift shop and free hot apple cider as well. Come check it out next November / December. read more

It is historic and beautiful and huge! Looks like you can spend an entire day in there. Have never gone inside but will on next visit. I see they have tours and surely that would help along with a map. Just so imposing and I see someone said "its so quiet to run through"? Of course it is- they are all dead! People Are Dieing To Come Here... Cheap joke I know, but seriously it is so beautiful, the layout of a park as a cemetery is an idea that just makes sense. The history of this place is amazing, so many important people in buffalo's history. Yet at the same time even the average joe's of Buffalo history. I love reading the gravestones that have a little background on a person, like their job what they loved their favorite pet, etc... It gives Buffalo a history thats relateable. in all this, this place is not a place of death, it's a place full of Life!!! read more

When I saw that a cemetery was number 3 on Trip Advisor, I couldn't believe it. What's so great about a cemetery? However, my fiance and I rode some bikes out there and we could see the allure. There's a pond and great paths that you could get lost in. It was interesting reading some of the monuments and headstones. I would recommend a stroll or bike ride there. If you have Rollerblades, you could do that too. We saw many people rollerblading around the park. read more

Have always enjoyed visiting this graveyard and cemetery. It is professionally maintained, organized and taken care of by the cemetery's management and staff. The Blocher monument is a well maintained and beautiful mausoleum that has a tragic story concerning Nelson Blocher, the mausoleum designer's son and only child. The cemetery's grounds are easy to navigate when you have a map at hand. Ely Parker is one of the cemetery's most famous residents next to Millard Fillmore, the Blocher family and Red Jacket. We stopped here, to check another Presidential grave visit off of my list. Overall, I found this to be one of the most scenic cemeteries that I have been in. Winding trails, ponds, hills and lots of memorial statues. Frank Lloyd Wright designed a mausoleum that is set on one of these ponds. My only complaint is that the office was closed even during opening hours, so I couldn't get a map of the cemetery. I was left to find my way to President Fillmore's grave, which is very confusing to find amongst the winding roads in a further-back section. read more

Very,very disappointed in Forest Lawn Cemetery crematorium Chapel Department my father purchased an itch for my sister and my mother in 1963 he has passed and wants his ashes with them the cost is so so expensive I can't afford it those were his wishes but he is no longer here of course I don't have any paperwork as it is 2017 they will not work with me as far as price I'm talking over $1,000 very disappointed. read more

This place is gorgeous, and it may be the most picturesque location in the entire city. You could go hunt our Rick James or Millard Fillmore's graves, visit the Franky Lloyd Wright monument, or check out the city's largest plot of civil war era graves. If "death tourism" isn't your cup of tea, the beautiful landscaping and serene ponds make this an excellent place for a run or bike ride. But a word to the wise. Beware the swans/geese. They don't look too kindly upon the living. They're vicious if you encroach upon their swarm. read more

I know this might sound odd but out of all the cemetery's I have been to this is by far my favorite one, It is great for running and biking if you do not want to go out on the streets and risk you life in Buffalo with all the drives. It is appealing to the eye and a great place to train for a race with all the hills. Has drinking fountains all over the place. Nice place for a fall or spring walk too. One of my favorite places to relax and unwind in Buffalo. Just watch out for the geese, they are mean and in your face. I love biking around and looking/ visiting people of my past. The most beautiful cemetery around. We are very lucky to have such a gem in Buffalo. In the next 12 years they will be planting 4,000 trees in Forest Lawn to get back to the original street/landscape from 1901. Great things to be happening. read more

Scorched Earth at Forest Lawn Sure, I picked the hottest and muggiest day of the year, but I was determined to see the premier performance of Joe Dispenza's new production on what is arguably the largest stage in Western New York - the Forest Lawn cemetery. Dispenza has been involved in theater since his childhood and now serves as Forest Lawn's artistic director. He wrote, produced, and directed this updated staging of what might by audience members be considered something far from approaching historical accuracy. Former Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld famously said: "You go to war with the Army you have---not the Army you might want or wish to have at a later time." Perhaps Dispenza's motivation for the creation of this piece was that you create theater for the audience you have AND the audience you wish to have at a later time. THAT audience is 21st century women, who make up 80% of Forest Lawn's show patrons. Rather than take a page from Miranda's "Hamilton," where black men portray famous white dead guys and sing hip-hop for two hours, Dispenza's vision was to have monologues from a series of unknown dead white women who were the wives of their famous dead white husbands - unlike anything being done at countless cemeteries all over western New York, where dead historical persons tell audiences historical facts about THEMSELVES. Forest Lawn's dead white women don't sing hip-hop. But they do take credit for their respective husbands' greatest achievements. And the first Mrs. Irving Berlin (whose husband isn't buried here) even sings a few of the songs she inspired (or so she claims) her husband to write. At Forest Lawn, we have a string of now-feminist dead white women reinventing themselves to appeal to modern sensibilities and wildly manipulating historical fact in the process. Now Dispenza has allowed dead white women at long last to stand in the sunshine and take credit for things they didn't do. Mrs. Millard Fillmore was (to hear her tell it) the power behind the throne to her President husband. Teacher Sarah Hinson, who didn't have a famous white husband at all, claims to be responsible for Flag Day, as well as the Pledge of Allegiance salute. I privately complained to Dispenza about what children might think. His show doesn't teach them that women were strong in the mid-to-late nineteenth century; it teaches them that anybody can rewrite history. Dispenza remains adamant that no changes be made to his production and he refuses to allow me to appeal his decision to a higher authority at Forest Lawn. Michael Miano read more

Just take a minute to look through the Forest Lawn photographs and you will get an idea what the property is all about. It's beautiful. We had some time to kill between wedding festivities while visiting Buffalo, NY. We stumbled upon this cemetery and spent a good 20 minutes driving through, checking everything out. It's a really neat place. I wouldn't go out of your way to visit, but if you are in the area or have a half hour to kill while being a tourist, we suggest taking a peak. read more

Been around since I can remember. I have some friends and family members buried here. Nice, up kept, respectful place. I even learned how to drive a little in here when I was younger. I do admire how management upholds the integrity of this cemetery. Very commendable. read more
