This was a small family owned Thai spot right near the Staten Island ferry station. It's a no frill, seated fast food spot. It reminded me of the Chinese take out places but Thai style and it was the first of its kind that I have tried. My friend had just finished a half marathon in Staten Island and so we wanted to enjoy a meal right after to celebrate. We were the only ones with this plan, other runners and friends came to celebrate and enjoy their after run meals as well. We ordered the Green Curry with shrimp, Eggplant with Basil Sauce with chicken sautéed, Mama's Fried Chicken with French fries, we substituted the white rice with brown rice for extra 2 dollars, and got the taro bubble tea. We ordered and paid for our food and waited for about 20 minutes for everything to be prepared. There were two people running the entire place but they were pretty quick given the amount of constant people coming in. We sat down and chatted. The food was served to our table and we got plates and spoons as we all ate family style. The taste was amazing and it tasted very authentic and home made. It felt comforting both a lot of flavor and the perfect texture. It will give us another reason to visit Staten Island again, even if it is Thai from this gem of a place. read more

So we eat out a lot! I love good food and I appreciate great service. I believe that when the food is not cooked properly, the chef and business owner should make it right. Talay Thai Restaurant on Staten Island misses the mark for service as well as food quality. So lunch since delivery was $20.(we are literally 5 min away from our house) So drove over to pick up our lunch. Our food tasted like coconut milk and was bland as bland could be. We called and they told us that they would send us spices to mix in the food but was not willing to make it right. Are you joking? $50.00 and they could care less. (And $10.00 for sticky rice???? Really????) So much for quality control. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! This was the worst experience that I have had at any Thai restaurant. We ended up tossing our meals with great disappointment. I can not recommend this place at all. They have no quality control in the kitchen, seem to careless about your experience and appear to simply want your money. With so many other great places to eat on Staten Island I would skip this one. read more

I was walking on Stuyvesant and I passed by this place. I checked it out and found out that it opened recently. The staff were very friendly. I ordered a chicken pad Thai with Thai iced coffee. This review is long overdue. It all started when I was looking for Thai restaurants close to home as my favorite restaurant has odd hours. Anyway, I found this NEW restaurant and placed an order to give it a try. I planned to pick the order on my way home. Lo and behold when I got there I could not find parking. I called asked if they could bring the order outside. They blatantly said "NO" and I was fuming. I should have taken the hint that customers service was going to be bad. I had to drive around to find a parking spot close to the restaurant. Mind you I was on a one way street. Finally, I parked on the main road by the post office; looked for coins in my purse to secure 1/2hr. time meter ticket to be then placed on my dashboard. Walked uphill to the restaurant which is right across from the courthouse. When it was time to pay they did not know how to proceed a $50 vanilla gift card. Good thing I reserved 1/2 hr. parking, because it took that long to figure it out. I ordered my usual pad Thai, Thai spring rolls and Thai eggplant. The food was not that bad. I made several more trips by pre-planning my parking situation. Last Friday was my sayonara order. Here is what happened. I had guests from overseas and found out that one of my guest has a peanut allergy. I wanted to give my guests a new food experience. I called ahead to inquire if they could accommodate with ensuring me NO peanut ingredients were used. They said yes. At this point they understood that it was going to be a significant order, I took a chance and asked if they could bring out the order outside as I was paying cash. The said yes. I reviewed the online menu and made my list. At the time of my order as I was calling out the Thai dish I asked "there are no peanut ingredients in this dish Right! Th woman taking the order started to get an attitude. As I was placing my order a wanted confirmation that that particular dish did not contain any peanuts in any form or shape. She had the audacity to say "did you read the menu, if peanuts is not listed, then the dish does not contain peanuts." I am the customer, if I want you to verbally confirm, then you should go along with me and pleasantly confirm. Try to pick up mu cues of uneasiness, helm me make me feel at ease as I don't know if my guest brought an epi-pen with her. At the end of my order I asked if they would be adding a surprise for my guests as the order was quite large. I must have said it several time as the woman though I was speaking martian as she did not understand what I was saying. She said "NO" I have had restaurants add a little surprise when my orders were above a certain dollar amount, an incentive to keep me as a customer. The lack of customers service in this locale leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth. To add, more fuel to the fire, after half hour I got a call that said I could park in front of the restaurant after 5pm. Once again the lack of customer service as if the restaurant was full of customers. nada! zero! The food was enjoyed by my foreign guests who had never tasted Thai food. They had nothing to compare to, I on the other hand found that all of dishes to be bland. I had a large order yet it was ready in 1/2 hr. By that alone tells me they are rushing orders out because they are too busy and don't spend enough time on getting it RIGHT. There was absolutely NO UMAMI. I was very, very disappointed. I'm here to say that's It was my last order, I don't like wasting my money. It's time to move my orders to Chang Noi ! down the block. I will keep you posted on this restaurant. This is a really cute spot. I was dying for some Thai food and the place I usually go was closed until five so I remember this place opened up recently down the block from that. I walked in and took a chance. Their food was amazing! So I should he taken pics and I will try for next time but the curry puff was so fresh and delicious hands down the best one I ever had! While looking at the menu I heard the woman in front of us along for things and the woman behind the counter didn't have them. When I got up there I asked for something they also didn't have it. Went ahead and ordered chicken with broccoli and garlic sauce. The menu didn't say it had soy sauce in it but I told her I couldn't have it in there anyway. My sister got the mixed veggies in cashew sauce, leek cakes and a Pina colada drink. They give everyone's meals to go but we are in the dining room. She offered us plates. When I tried to take the food out of the bag everything spilled. Idk if the caps weren't on right or the containers don't hold liquid well. Both our sauces were watery. Mine tasted good and I usually have a problem with chicken from places but there's was good. My sister said hers tasted good and liked her variety of vegetables. The food was fresh and well seasoned. 4 people ordered 4 different dishes and we all marveled how each dish maintained its identify, not getting lost in the ease of oh-just-make-it-taste-the-same-but-use-different-ingredients humdrum of many restaurants. The Tom Yum soup was delicious, seasoned just right with a delectable lemon grass flavor throughout. Mains were eggplant with basil sauce (yes, the Thai kind!) Tofu with cashew sauce, Pad Ki Mow (otherwise known as drunken noodle), and Green Curry. All were excellent. Each of the dishes had a choice of Chicken, beef or shrimp, vegetables or tofu. I've had my eye on this place for several months and finally took the plunge and ordered takeout for my birthday lunch. I went to the restaurant to pickup the food myself. The woman at the counter was very polite and courteous and took care of my transaction right away. Things got even better when I got home: the food was absolutely delicious! I had the Pad Ki Mow/drunken noodles lunch special which I ordered with tofu, and crispy fried spring rolls with sweet and spicy sauce came on the side. The noodles were still steaming hot when I took the lid off the dish and oh, what a treat! The dish was flavorful, fresh, and complex bursting with chili and Thai basil all throughout.
