Amazing! After struggling to find vegetarian options west of the island, Sanma was my saving grace. I hadn't eaten in hours and didn't really know what to expect. However, my entire experience was pleasant! I ordered online, which was very easy and convenient, and shortly afterwards, a woman called to confirm that I wanted to order from the Staten Island location. I found that to be extremely considerate to ensure there was no confusion if had I accidentally ordered at another location. The avocado and steamed sweet potato roll were phenomenal, and a steal at only $4.50 each! (If you are vegan, I would check with the restaurant to see if the sweet potato tempura contains eggs or dairy). The avocodo was very fresh and perfectly ripe. Both rolls were delicious! Since the only hotels are on this side of the island, I will definitely be returning to Sanma the next time I am in town.! read more

I do not recommend the octopus it was very fishy and I've never had octopus fishy and I do not recommend the salmon roe or the chicken teriyaki. A friend told us about this place because they have an ayce option. We didn't go there for this but they don't advertise it either. The three of us were seated immediately. Two of us order the blue Hawaii. After alittle while we order our food. I order brown rice avocado rolls with ginger dressing on the side and miso soup. My friend ordered the mango chicken, beef teriyaki, fried rice and sweet potato rolls. The lady looks at him confused and asks if he's sure he wants that. I think she thought it was a lot of food for just him but he says yes and that he wants the beef well done. My sister ordered Miso soup and tofu teriyaki. She didn't write anything done but requests the order to us. Everything she says is correct. Miso soup comes tastes like every other miso soup. Our food comes out hot but things are wrong. No salad dressing and the beef teriyaki was rare. So I tell her this is wrong it's supposed to be well done and she looks confused. So I said it needs to be cooked more so she says ok and takes it. My sister's dish looked sad because it was tofu with teriyaki sauce splattered on top of it. Everyone else's food is good. My friends beef comes back by the end of the meal so we get it to go. We had the most amazing dinner at Sanma the other day. We ordered an assorted selection of appetizers, all came out hot, exciting to look at, and they were absolutely delicious. For dinner, we split the Chilean Seabass, which came prepared exactly the way we ordered it, nicely browned on the bottom. It was on top of some beautiful Japanese vegetables, and was one of the best seafood dishes we have ever had. Today I made an order which the driver left the food next door and did not call me. I order regularly and understand common courtesy is to call the person. The restaurant immediately called me as I was on the phone with Grubhub. I hung up on Grub Hub and called them immediately. This led to a back and forth for nearly 8 minutes with a female telling me the driver called the wrong number. I went over the fact they called me immediately. No one could justify that the driver could have simply called the restaurant to confirm the number. I know they will never get my money again. I really hate to leave a bad review. But I ordered from here a few weeks ago. We recently moved to the neighborhood and wanted to try Japanese. When we lived on the south shore we would always order from Genki Sushi (Arden Avenue) and never had a bad meal. The food over there is amazing. A friend recommended Sanma, we ordered a Kani salad, fried rice, Beef negamaki and edamame. It arrived on time but All dishes had absolutely ZERO taste and was 100% bland. Was a bit thrown off that they added chucks of the cucumber core into the salad (part with the seeds). Been to many AYCE places and tasted many kani salads, this is a first. New management is definately having a hard time transitioning to an all-you-can-eat restaurant. The plates came out fairly slow and the pieces are very large (normally a good thing, right? But wait for it....) I left 6 pieces on my plate because of the unexpectedly sizes of the rolls. Therefore, I got charged the 10 dollar "wasteful evil person" penalty. (First time I ever experienced this!). Anyway, I would have returned as a much less wasteful customer if I was not subjected to a manager's interrogation about their policy. Hell, I didn't even put up a fight over it. I think she just enjoys scolding people to make a point to others. I love sushi, and this place didnt know sushi at all! The taste of the rice was BLAND AND DRY... I wanted to drop my chopsticks right there and walk out. I got 5 smoke salmon sashimi which was strangely sliced each time, so I was happy if pieces were thicker than paper. Then my friend got the platter of 9 sashimi pieces which he also could barely eat the rice for it. The chicken katsu was also incredibly dry and the sauce was way too overpowering. I saw the locals having sushi with forks! The waiters where horrible and they didn't care about if you enjoyed your food or wanted to get anything else. The guests were no better, rowdy from the drinks they had and seemed like the staff didn't care either. Their mango kani salad is amazing as well. Fair to say, I liked everything we tried, with the exception of the classic roll, not because it wasn't fresh but moreso because it wasn't our taste. We also tried the spicy tuna, chicken negimaki (more scallion than chicken - which the boyfriend loves), eel sushi, tamago, spider roll, eel cucumber and they were all very fresh and delicious. We were craving sushi but decided not to get it because too much raw isn't good for the stomach. So we went to Applebee's instead. We weren't satisfied with our dinners though so we still stopped by afterward! We split the 3 rolls and ate them in his car. We felt like addicts, sneaking in the raw fish. It's like our cocaine. It definitely satisfied the craving, and they were very quick with the order too! I really like the people working there. On all occasions, they were very nice before, during, and after our meal. Like I said in another review, I think it's really important to feel welcome in a restaurant because then it means I'd be comfortable enough to return. When boyfriend and I went in just to take out, everyone was who was available asked if we needed to sit, which means they're not just waiting for someone else to take care of us. They all cared whether or not we were being served. It's also pretty amazing that there are 4 guys behind the sushi counter. They're constantly filling delivery orders ($10 minimum) so I like that they're busy. Busy in a sushi place is good because that means the fish isn't just sitting there. Plus, it means that it'll be faster to get your meal. So basically, if you read all of that, you can tell that I really do love Mitoushi. We started with what we usually start with at any sushi place: a kani salad. It was by far the worst kani salad we ever had. There was hardly any crab in it! It was 90% cucumber. We went Ina Friday night and bought two bottles of wine with us...I told you it was a rough week. Anyway it was the Friday before Memorial Day so that could explain why there wasn't a huge crowd. We were seated right away and then the night began. We ordered garlic mussels, negamaki, soft shell crab, shumai, and fried squid for appetizers. The plates were small but just enough for everyone to have little something. We each then ordered two rolls a piece and shares. My favorites were the Winter, Spice Girl and the Volcano! Everything was delicious. Then the table directly behind us ordered Sake bombs and it looked like so much fun so we each had one. The Sapporo beer was $3.50 and the sake was free. we loved the experience! The table dared us to do another and we obliged :-) Service was great, food was great and the overall experience was just what I needed! We will be back again! The staff is very nice not to mention they have a cute girl at the counter the last time we went but i wouldn't give this place 4 stars just for the cute girl. I was brought here for lunch with a co-worker and my first thought of the place was the interior design was like any other sushi place. Bright but nice soft colors that don't stick out like a sore thumb. The place doesn't smell fishy like some sushi places. Sushi here is pretty fresh. I ordered the Charashi nice variety of sashmi. The only thing i would have to say about this place was the rice need more vinegar and the wasabi was from powder and not the actual wasabi root which is okay since most places do it this way.
