The only down side is that it's really hard to get out here. But the place is fun, beautiful, well lit, clean and tons of pinball games. I happened to be at the tequila festival and happened to come here when it was over because why the heck not. I probably won't make it out into this neck of the woods any time soon. My favorite beer I tried that was on tap was definitely the raspberry sour (PH4). It wasn't overly sour or overly sweet and just the perfect hint of raspberry. Second favorite was probably the Rice Saison (S8). Beers were for the most part priced around $9 for a tall glass and $6 for a short. Which is typical and if it was a regular bar they'd be taking advantage of it being a craft beer and upcharge it. Glad I got to check this brewery out again and see all the changes!

Started off with the "Noble in Reason" ($8) - a light ale with a crisp finish. Next was the "Construed to Waste Your Time" ($8) - an even lighter Kolsch with a bready taste. They do have snacks for purchase and delivery from spots nearby if wanting something more substantial. Good spot to have a beer and watch a match or two (was showing a soccer match when we were there).

All the beer experiences on what we have had point to two of their flagship beers. The Crisp is one of these beers. It's a pilsner with a crisp, clean flavor. This also has a dry,, hoppy flavor highlights to it also. To be honest it wasn't bad but not necessarily the most memorable of pilsners. It's kind of the same story with the other beer too, an IPA the Resin also was okay but didn't really etch itself in my mind. Flavors noticeable is hoppiness, sweetness and a pine flavor. Both beers are refreshing enough but the beer tastes kind of corporate that doesn't make it's signature for uniqueness all that noticeable.

However, Truman explained that " on weekends the pop up food markets are here or patrons bring food to picnic". He suggested Red Hook Kitchenette to purchase sandwiches and bring it back and dine here. ( which I did, see separate review for RHK). I asked for suggestions on an IPA that is citrusy and he suggested the Hazy IPA Wolf in the Garden. WITG has hints of tropical fruit, stone fruit and orange peels. An IPA Fawn approved. They serve beer, cider, wine and spirits. The interior is rustic with wood tables, soft lighting and just a chill beer. The outside picnic tables face the waterfront and Lady Liberty, what a view! Sipping my beer in the sweet sunshine. I am falling in love with NY crafted beer and IPA. Strong Rope will become a Fawn fave fast. You only need 1-2 to feel relaxed. :) The beer prices are great too. The vibe here is great, with a lot of seating options and card + board games to keep you occupied. Dog friendly as well! I was able to get a bowl of water for my little one. Nice views of the water too if you prefer to sit outside. I like how it is bring your own food. I saw a small group having a little birthday party and they had pizza and a cake that they brought. I went to the Food Bazaar grocery a block or two away and got a sandwich from their deli to bring to the brewery. Next door is a cidery, I think a different owner. Outrageously expensive ($17 for a small glass of cider? lol). Stick to strong rope! They do have a cider or two on their menu normally. 2 minutes away is Steve's Key Lime Pie - recommend if you like frozen key lime pies on a stick dipped in chocolate ;)

This brewery isn't huge by any stretch, but it's got ample space and if you arrive here early enough you'll be able to find a spot to sit until about 5pm when it starts getting busy. Their list of beers was displayed on the wall behind the bartenders and they served their beers in 3 sizes. I didn't try any of the beers as I had the hard cider instead, which was good. As for the beers, it had mixed reviews amongst my friends. Outside of the brewery, there is a play area for kids, so that was nice since some of us had our kids with us, but on bitterly cold days, it's empty. Solid, chill hang out spot. Just one piece of advice is to do your research as to where it is located first before heading here as it can be a maze.

I've worked in restaurants and bars long enough to understand that staff drinking happens, but this was on another level entirely. I came in with a group of friends and one of the bartenders, Will, was so visibly drunk that it made the entire experience uncomfortable. Slurred speech, wobbling behind the bar, taking orders while chewing food with his mouth open -- it was honestly embarrassing to watch. He looked like he absolutely did not want to be there. At one point, my group had been trying to get his attention for another round for quite a while while he stood around talking with coworkers. We then watched staff take a shot together, and when he finally came over he burped mid-conversation and literally had whatever he had just been drinking dribbling down his neckbeard. That was the moment where the whole thing went from unprofessional to just gross. What made it worse was that it didn't seem isolated to one employee. Throughout the night we watched staff openly taking shots and drinking behind the bar like it was a house party instead of a business. There's a difference between bar culture and complete lack of professionalism, and this crossed that line hard. One of the friends I was with actually frequents the DUMBO location and said that the last time she was there, the same bartender also seemed intoxicated, which makes this feel less like a bad night and more like an ongoing issue. The DUMBO location itself is in an amazing spot, which makes it even more disappointing. But ownership seriously needs to get control of what's going on there before someone gets hurt or the place develops a reputation for having drunk staff on the clock. Unfortunately, the experience was uncomfortable enough that my girlfriends and I won't be coming back. I genuinely hope the employee mentioned gets help if this is a regular thing, because nobody should be working service in that condition.

I got the Classic Trio Flight ($18), which they serve Number Fourteen, Blue Door, and Occidental. I was very impressed with all of them, regardless of how they were made. I don't think I've ever had sake this smooth in my life before. I also got to try two other drinks. The Weekend Lover ($17) consists of ube (which gives it that distinct purple color), coconut, sake kasu pina colada, msg, sweet potato shochu, Oaxaca rum, lime, and a mango leaf that they light one fire for aesthetics. This drink I enjoyed. I also tried the Kakariko Highball ($16) which is made with buckwheat shochu, japanese bourbon, sherry, soda, lemon oil. I wasn't too fond of this drink unfortunately. If you didn't know, they also serve food and they're fantastic. Don't sleep on the food! I got an order of the Kura Hot Wings ($18), which they do give you a bowl of water to wash your fingers with. There a dressing that comes on the side, not sure what it is, but do dip as it tastes great! I didn't think I'd like the Okinawa Sweet Potato Gnocchi ($14), but these tasted great. It comes with housemate pesto, which I liked as a dipping sauce. The Chicken Fried Oyster Mushroom ($15) is a great alternative if you're vegan. This comes with a russian dressing which goes perfectly well with the oyster mushrooms.

As someone who always looks for a distillery stop when paths cross, Widow Jane did not disappoint. The space has a great industrial, Brooklyn-cool vibe, from the tables to the shelving to the bar itself. It feels intentional, hip, and still very much focused on the whiskey. What I really appreciated was the flexibility of the experience. You can order cocktails, flights, and even single or double pours, which made it easy for our group to explore the lineup in different ways. We ordered different flights across the table so we could sample broadly, and that approach paid off. They also offer a small but thoughtful selection of food items, perfect for pairing with tastings and taking the edge off while you explore the lineup. Nothing heavy, but exactly what you want when you are spending time with good whiskey. Two pours really stood out. The 10-year distillery-only release was excellent and worth the visit on its own, and the Black Opul 20 Year was something special. On the nose it leaned heavy into mature oak with some dark chocolate and dried fruit, and once you sipped it you got caramel, toasted nuts, a little leather, and a finish that just kept hanging around in the best way. It is one of those pours that makes you slow down and really appreciate what is in the glass. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff knowledgeable, and the experience approachable without being dumbed down. A great stop for both casual fans and serious bourbon drinkers alike. Glad we made the stop, and I would absolutely return.

You don't think that NYC would have a top notch bourbon distiller but they do with Widow Jane. I took a tour last week while visiting and had a good time. Ryan,the tour guide, is also an employee in the distillery. He was informative and the story behind how Widow Jane started was fascinating. They are now affiliated with Heaven Hill which gives them national exposure and distribution in all fifty states. I came here because one I was in town and two a neighbor gave me a bottle of WJ bourbon as a gift a couple of months ago and I really like it. I had no idea they were in Red Hook and he told me that they are in Brooklyn. Anyway, I stayed after the tour and had a couple of cocktails at the bar. The Sazerac and Old Fashioned were top notch. Definitely pay Widow Jane a visit if you happen to be in Red Hook.
