Located in Brooklyn Navy Yard, this brewery has an indoor and outdoor space with games and pinball machines. Overall very low key brewery that is usually never too packed. The brewery has great tasting beers but unfortunately they do not have any happy hour deals or specials so my wife and I don't frequent this brewery as much as we'd like. read more

Transmitter Brewing has long been on my list to try. Steve and I were very excited and grateful when that opportunity finally arose in which at long last got to try one of their beers! The beer we had was the G1 Golden Ale with Pekko. This was a Belgian Pale Ale that was a lot of fun to drink as it had unique flavor profile which made it very intriguing! Flavors to be on the lookout with this beer are earthy, floral, citrusy, dry aftertaste and an herbal essence. Perhaps the herbal part was what really got me into this beer as I do love a good herbal beer. I have never had a bad experience with them and I certainly didn't have a bad experience with this one! read more

What a great space this is for a very chill brewery. It os located at Brooklyn Navy yard which is a 5-10 min walk from the east river ferry. The guy who helped me was very nice and let me taste two beers before deciding on which one I wanted to get as a full pour. They have plenty of seating indoors and out. They also have comfortable couches/chair corner. They have a wonderful merch area. I had the pilsner which was pretty good. I did take a pack of beer home, the pilsner one. This Saturday there was an "Old Skool" Block party going on in the back of Building #77 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The only way to get to the party you have to go to the back of Building #77, also known as The Grainge Building l,141 Flushing Avenue. And lo and behold, right before you get to the doors to the yard there is this wonderful little brewery. Unfortunately they don't do flights. But I asked if they had something "hoppy" and the the brew server told me G2 was the one I was looking for. I was totally happy with the flavor. I was so happy I had two. My friend was happy with the cider, and the Italian pilsner. I will definitely return. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. read more

Transmitter Brewing is a craft brewery that opened in Queens, New York in March 2014. It was founded by business partners Anthony Accardi and Rob Kolb. The two met in 2005 through their mutual love of avid road cycling. They also shared a love for beer and soon began homebrewing together and experimenting with isolated strains of yeast. The duo was eventually inspired to open their own brewery with a focus on crafting Belgian-style farmhouse ales. They founded their name and brand (inspired by Brooklyn's Transmitter Park as well as a nod to ham radio) in 2013. A year later they opened up their brick and mortar location under the Pulaski Bridge in Long Island City. Accardi and Kolb referred to their new business as an urban farmhouse brewery. After a few years and much success, Transmitter had outgrown their modest location. In May 2019, Transmitter opened up a new brewery and taproom in the Brooklyn Navy Yard at Building 77 (aka 'The Market at 77'). I recently visited Transmitter Brewing while I was cycling around NYC. I was trying out a number of Brooklyn breweries and pizzerias and this was my second stop of the day. Building 77 was a beautiful new building. The ground floor is a retail marketplace and food hall that also featured a pizzeria, a bagelry, a salsa kitchen, and more. Transmitter's taproom has a decent amount of seating inside as well as in their outdoor beer garden. They also had no less than six pinball machines for customers to play. I enjoyed short pours of "NY7 Plum" (Fruited Sour), "S9 Noble Saison", "T1 Triple Ale" (Belgian Tripel), and "B1 Bourbon Barrel- Aged Barleywine". Everything I sampled was very good, but the latter (which featured notes of bourbon, plum and toffee) was easily my favorite. Being an ale lover, I've always been a fan of Transmitter Brewing. Their farmhouse ales are among the tastiest brews you'll ever find, if like me you like this style of beer. Their beers are not only good, but always inventive, either through the use of unusual ingredients, unexpected collaborations, various aging barrels, or underappreciated yeast strains [1]. I was going to Transmitter Brewing at their original location in Queens when I was given a CSB membership as birthday present, which I then renewed a couple of times. But that meant having to drive to Queens, and finding parking near their location was always a pain. Not to mention the tiny space they had there, which made it almost impossible to actually drink there. Their new location near the Brooklyn Navy Yard is easier to access by car with plenty of street parking nearby, and has plenty more room. The industrial setting is simple with communal tables, benches and plenty of room around the bar, and you can bring your own food[2]. There are a lot of table games available, and I've also seen people coming here for social meetings and events. You like a tasty beer in a quiet, welcoming setting, away from crowded and noisy bars and the sports crowd? You'll love this place. No TV screens here to distract you from these wonderful beers. It is also very kid-friendly. Plenty of room for strollers, and plenty of room for your little one to move around. Moreover, your little one will also have plenty more room in the food hall that is never busy, and you'll be free to take your beer with you as you chase her or him around. Unless, like me, you're a beer nerd, I wouldn't make Transmitter Brewing a destination, as it is not very convenient by public transportation. But if you find yourself near the Navy Yard for whatever reason[3], and would like to try some high quality beers, you won't be disappointed. I took the ferry specifically to go here to try a beer. I arrived at 7:15 pm on a Saturday--they close at 8 pm--and was told they already did last call. That felt pretty uncool. I've never been to a bar where last call is more than 30 minutes before closing. And it's not like patrons just wander in off the street here because they stumbled upon the brewery; there's literally nothing around. Anybody going to Transmitter is going out of their way specifically to go there. Anyway, I suspect it was a slow night and the bartender got bored and closed everything out early and didn't want to reopen so I could try their beer. I'm not super excited about the prospect of trekking to the middle of the Navy Yard in the near future for a second attempt at patronizing this brewery. Oh well! read more

I was going to just say I loved every minute spent here but that was definitely before covid-19. I am not sure about all the precautions the place is taking now but I loved the atmosphere, it was laid back just great conversation and bartenders and patrons were playing monopoly. I thought that was a nice easy vibe to just enjoy a drink or two. That time of course was start of 2020 basically and before the world we are dealing with now. I did like the spot and will recommend it and really enjoyed spending time in this area. I will be back at some point though not sure yet. read more

If you're not familiar with Transmitter, they serve some of the best beers New York City has to offer. They have a variety of beers, but it's a refreshing to find a place that specializes in saisons, one of my favorites. Every place is so IPA crazy, it's too much. Their beers can also be found in some local supermarkets around the city. The space is awesome. Beautiful modern tap room. Nice looking bar. And a really nice outside space, which is wonderful on a beautiful day or if something is going on in the back of Building 77. You can also bring in food. So snag something from somewhere within Building 77, my personal choice would be Russ & Daughters. Then come grab a seat, maybe in the back, and enjoy some nice brews. read more

It's so eery to walk through Building 77 these days. Russ & Daughters still has their neon lit up, but it's dark inside with just a sign saying they're pickup only. None of the other shops are open, and there's a lone security guy working the desk in the middle. But keep walking all the way to the back, and you've got a beer oasis in Transmitter. They'll be blasting some indie rock tunes and selling some delicious beers. A lot of them are sours (which is 100% my speed), but they've got other styles as well (pilsners and saisons in cans). I picked up a 4 pack of the PH8 (sour with blueberries and blackberries), a bottle of the PH7 (sour with nectarines), and a bottle of the Harvest 8 (oak aged sour with raspberries). It was really a sour day! The PH8 is easy drinking without being too tart. Beautiful red/purple color, and finishes smooth. Perfect as an introductory sour for people who may not like sours (yet). Great for some outdoor drinking on a warm summer day! The PH7 was amazing. The sweetness and the citrus flavor of the nectarine really shines through. It's more complex than the PH8, and very, very good. If the PH7 was amazing, then the H8 was phenomenal! One of the best beers I've had this year! Raspberries and sours just go hand in hand, and the oak aging added a ton of depth. If you're only able to buy one beer, make it this one! Prices were pretty reasonable too. Especially compared to large format bottles from other local breweries (not going to name names!). read more

It's a true testimony to a brewery when you visit them once (months ago) and still long to return. That's the case with me and Transmitter Brewing. One visit back in August and I'm still thinkin' about the superb quality I sampled and pondering what other wonders Transmitter has to offer. I had been wanting to take a trip over to Long Island City for a while, especially knowing there were four walking-distance breweries waiting for me. Transmitter was the first stop and it set a precedence I wasn't ready for (but I love that it did). You see, Xmitter (they do clever stuff with their name) does things a little differently than your average brew-stop. Instead of flights, Transmitter will let you sample a few of their farmhouse-style ales for free. Yup, free beer! From there, you can then buy a bottle (500 or 750ML-sized) and they'll pop em open for you right in the tasting room and supply the glasses. That's it. No pints here. It's all about this setup and if that scares you, don't let it. Seriously, this was a fun and refreshing way to try out some brews. Okay, so you do have to be a little careful in your selection because many choices you won't have had a chance to try prior (and won't be able to until you purchase them). From the few we tasted (W1, G6, F4) only one was chosen (W1) while we took our chances with two others (B3, W3). The results were taste-tacular (new word). Let's start with W1 (yeah the beer names here aren't going to be why you drink something which is another refreshing difference). This grapefruit wit subtly carried the title fruit and added in hints of spice to round out the beer. B3 unfortunately wasn't liked by all...but I loved it! This was quite the Belgian stout with a robust and thick mouthfeel while also being mildly creamy and satisfying. The overall favorite was W3. It had a taste of orange to start and filled in the flavor nicely with its Belgian wit style and touch of hops. Needless to say, we polished off all three bottles and honestly could've (and should've!) gotten more. Overall, Transmitter is not your average microbrewery. There could be some hesitancy if you like flights and pints and all that jazz, but you'd be missing out if you didn't stop in. We visited three more breweries and (basically) nothing came close to matching the quality, service, and awesomeness that is Transmitter. Now I just gotta get back there! read more

Grabbed some beer at Transmitter Brewing on Saturday evening. A decent brewery, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the beers I tried and the lack of staff to keep things clean and organized was a problem. Quality: Transmitter Brewing follows a more old world approach to beers. So rather than seeing a menu filled with IPAs, you will find German, Belgian, and Italian style beers. During our visit we had the A4 Abbey Quad, B7 Milk Stout, G+X Mixed Grain Saison, and PH4 Raspberry Sour. It was a fun range of options, and each was fine, but none of the beers really stood out to me. And with the unique flavors, I was expecting something to really inspire me. I left satisfied, but not itching to bring beers home. Quantity: 12oz pours for the beers unless you selected a can or bottle option. Value: $7-$8 for Drafts of Beer. Ambiance: Transmitter Brewing is located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. You enter through the market space, which has several other shops and restaurants. The brewery is towards the back, and it is a large space. The bar is inside, along with several picnic tables, but with nice weather the guests were all outside. The patio is nothing more than a fenced in sidewalk with some tables, chairs, and barrels. Alternative rock played outside, but the inside area was pretty quiet. Crowd: The perfect weather drew a good sized crowd to the outdoor patio. Never so many people that you could not get a seat, but there was definitely a few folks who had to wait inside for a spot outside to clear. Service: The two bartenders were great, but they could have used more help on a busy Saturday evening. At a time when it is crucial to have increased cleaning procedures, the fact that most of the outside tables needed to be cleared by guests was concerning. Nice on site tasting room to the in-house brewery. This place seems to specialize in Saison style brews with at least 4+ listed as saison or farmhouse. Clean and yeasty, these brews are true to style. The pilsner is clean with delicate saaz hop flavor and a light but malty body. If you are sick of California who can out-do the bitterest IPA then stop in and have a relaxing quiet respite from NY bustle. I've been to many breweries in my day, but I've never seen one quite as unique as this spot. Having never been to Long Island City before, I played follow the leader behind the NYC residents -- passing through industrial areas and under a bridge to find this brewery. A distinct sewage odor hung in the air as we waited for the rest of the group to arrive. Since it was tiny-tiny inside, we waited until others had finished their tasting before our somewhat sizable group walked in. As part of the complimentary tasting, you can try the three beers they have available. A look at their 'coming soon' board told me that I visited at the wrong time. Apparently they have some sours coming up, and I definitely would have liked to try them. The samples available (mostly saisons) were pretty good -- but nothing outstanding enough for a bottle purchase. I also would have loved to hear about their history, but it was tough to move/ask questions considering the restraints of the space. Through a door, there were some picnic tables that backed up to the brewery operations. That area looked like it'd be a fun spot to decompress with a nice bottle. It was also dog-friendly. This was a nice, albeit quick, stop along the LIC brewery tour. If I'm ever in the area again, I definitely want to return to see what else they have to offer as they grow. read more

After chilling out at the nearby park, walked over here to try a few brews before closing time on a Saturday night. Definitely on the sketchy side, as this brewery is beneath an overpass and not much lighting nearby. Nonetheless, an open area to show that they weren't closed yet, with two people inside taking orders. No draughts to speak of; everything is sold within cans or bottles. Before settling on a beer, the person up front gave us a sample of a few brews so we know what we're ordering. Most of the cans are definitely on the lighter ABV, which is good to chill and have outside. Had both the L1 Pils ($8) and the S3 Saison ($8). The saison is super crisp and not as sweet as other similar beers. The pilsner has an even taste as it had a lot IBU amount. It's a cool spot if not packed, as there's limited seating inside and outside. Only serve chips here, but they're cool with people bringing food. Worth the trek over (especially during the daytime). read more

An awesome brewery out in the middle of nowhere Long Island City. It is called Nano for a reason - SUPER TINY! But super tiny doesn't mean bad. I came here two weeks ago with Steph and Anna as a part of our mini brewery crawl. The beautiful thing about Transmitter is that a tasting of their beers is completely free. No commitment before debating whether or not to buy an entire bottle. All of their beers also come in big boy bottles - 750ml. Their focus is on mostly farmhouse ales with a unique taste. You see the passion come through though because everything I sampled was exceptional and very different from other breweries. The S8 Rice Saison (6.0%): Brewed with toasted rice and new school German hops with notes of pear and melon and a spicy undertone. This one tasted like an experimental Japanese rice beer gone so so right. Loved it. The S5 Oak Aged Belge Saison (7.1%): A little bit funky. It had an aftertaste and is very malty. Not my personal favorite but my friend loved it. The NY1 (5.8%): This was by far my favorite. Home run. Landslide. It's sweet and a little hoppy but with a chocolaty toffee malt undertone. Also, the ingredients are 100% all from New York. How can you not love a beer that states that?! I would love to come back to check out what they have in store for the future. Great beers in a spacious, clean setting. I knocked a star off for the inconvenient location, but overall I really enjoyed this place. They do Belgian style brews, and while the selection is pretty small the beers are very good! Quality over quantity for sure. There are board games, tables, and a pretty big counter area. It wasn't super busy when we went, possibly because of how hot it was that day? Also as I mentioned earlier it's not the most convenient place to get to if you're using the subway. I would definitely go back, but I'm not sure when because it's really out of the way for me. Luckily you can find Transmitter beers at various bars around the city. read more

Transmitter has long been one of my favorites when I want to grab a bottle of an interesting and unique brew, and it's great to be able to drink it right at the source! I love that they make small batches and experiment with a ton of flavors. The staff was really nice and the place was packed on a VERY cold winter's night. Not worth the hype & the owner/with the beard is very rude. My boyfriend is an avid beer drinker and did not like this place. I don't understand business owners who still find time to be so disgusting during the season. Anyone, coming out in this climate to support your business should be treated with respect. Yesterday, I ordered a glass of beer and proceeded outside to drink it. This location has a gated small area for people to step outside. After finishing the drink we proceeded back into the Transmitter to exit. When entering, the person with a beard who also served me (insert wtf) asked me why came through that door because it's only for patrons??? Ummmm, that is what I am & this the only way out of the store. He spoke to me as if I broke in, jumped the fence, just to venture to this mediocre brewery. Don't flatter yourself. I wish I could take back every dime spent here. He completely forgot I just spent money at his establishment and was stepping outside to enjoy it. But it was how he said it. How dare you scold a customer for your mistake. He offered no apology. I really hope New York is not turning into a homogenous city where bigotry now feels free to roam again. read more

Really unique beers with flavors that pleasantly surprise. Bitterness from different angles than your IPA, sweetness from different corners than your stouts, tartness in sours from a whole cornucopia of fruit without being too fruity. Since it's cold, I enjoyed most, literally was almost knocked over by the delicious depth of the Abby Quad. It reminded me of the ridiculously high abv stouts and brandywines at Evil Twin brewing - the better thing about it was that it lacked any hint of coffee, a flavor I prefer to be without when drinking beer at night. While not as high an abv as the stouts, this beer will make you feel like ditching mulled wine for winter in lieu of its cozy flavor journey. I also enjoyed the Brett farmhouse which, in the best way possible, tasted like walking into a stable. Like I said, bitterness that's different and pleasantly surprising if you've had your share of hops the past year. Tucked away in a huge building on the Brooklyn Navy yard, just above fort greene, a bit of a trek from the subway but a nice cozy hide out from the elements to enjoy some unique beers. To be clear, this is 5 stars for their summarily excellent beer, 3 stars for their rugged (well, by urban standards) remote location, which requires a stressful stroll around the toll entrance to the Queens Midtown Tunnel and across heavily-trafficked entrance ramps thereto. Once you're there, be sure to chill, talk beer with these friendly experts and try some of their incredible beers. They specialize in Farmhouse styles - while you pretty much can't go wrong, we found their F7 Sour Farmhouse and G2 Golden Ale to be particularly awesome standouts. But Seriously, if you can go via Greenpoint and a leisurely stroll over the Pulaski Bridge, do it. You'll arrive cool, relaxed and ready to sample some beers, rather than desperate to down anything to calm your nerves after almost getting turned into Queens roadkill. read more

"Welcome to the party Pal!" - John McClane, Die Hard . . . and me after my first of many visits to Transmitter Brewing. A nano-brewery, meaning they make beer 5 kegs at a time. Sounds like a lot, but it's tiny, like back when you were a kid and made water colors with those little cups, so you'd have a bit of paint to work with. Know what I mean? Okay, maybe not, but it's a tiny amount. So that allows the good folks at Transmitter to use good ingredients, charge high prices (supply & demand) and make excellent beer on a small scale. I love excellent beer made of good stuff, so this is in my interest. Transmitter itself is a small place in an industrial area near Fresh Direct, located almost directly under the Pulaski Bridge from Long Island City to Greenpoint. You can drive there or walk (from the 7 or whatever) - use the stairs up to the Pulaski Bridge as your guide. Once you're at the base of the stairs, it's 15 feet, across the street. Yes, it really is located off of Borden, yes the road to get to it is across from the ramp off of the Midtown Tunnel, yes you have to cross the train tracks. Cross those tracks after looking both ways, walk 300 feet and it's on your right. I went there on their 2nd week open after having one of their beers during Queens Beer Week - wow. WOW. Lovely saison, wild yeasts, belgian styling, so good. Came here to try their beers, found a small tasting room offering free sips of their newest bottled items, with same bottled items available for sale. First was good, second was better, gladly bought a bottle for $15. Beautiful label, cork stopper, sits in the fridge for sometime to enjoy this week. Long Island City is quickly becoming a craft beer hot bed with Rockaway and Big Alice - Transmitter may yet be the best of the bunch. read more

I can see why everybody gives Transmitter Brewing five stars. People love theirs beers. Transmitter Brewing uses high grade ingredients. They have their own unique cooking and brewing process. Finally, they have a variety of tasty beers. Then why two stars; it is that Transmitter Brewing does not provide the overall brewery experience. My idea of the brewery experience is a location where you can sample beers, buy some pints, take a tour and just chill tasting various beers. Transmitter Brewing does some of this, but not all. While I did have some samples, I could not buy a pint. The tasting room is the size of a walk in closet. This was not conducive to chill and have some beers. Then again you could not buy a beer for in house consumption. Purchases only allowed for off premise consumption. The attendant seem to be involved with the operation financially, but seem disinterested. If anyone has read my brewery reviews, they know I never comment on beers. Tasting and enjoying beers is a unique experience for the taste buds. I seem to like certain styles of beers, while I do not like others. It is not fair to review a brewery and give a negative review because I don't personally like a style of beers. Overall, their is a HUGE potential for Transmitter Brewing. The nano-brewery concept or small batch brewing is a happening scene, but you have to compete not only with the big boys, you have to compete with all the regional and small breweries. I don't know if this location will allow this. Without being able to purchase beers in house, closet size tap room and the distant's from local traffic; Transmitter Brewing faces a hard road ahead. One last point, 1 oz. taste is way to small. This is not a wine taste. I feel a decent pour of 3 or 4 oz. of beer would have enhance my beer tasting experience. Just saying. read more

Drinking beer under a bridge in Queens is something I haven't done since high school. I was amped to check Transmitter out and enjoyed the adventure of finding it via a stroll on the Pulaski bridge. As soon as you are in the Queens side take the stairs (there's a sign as well on the floor by the stairs) down to the street were Transmitter awaits. You can smell the Yest and hops before entering the small tasting room where a very pleasant staff member served us tastes of three of their current offerings; their Sasion, Golden Ale, and Bier de Garde. We were able to get a spot at the picnic table in the brewery, which is awesome because you can watch the whole process while enjoying the fruits of their labor. Tastes are free and 750 ML bottles go for about $16. If you can snag a spot at the picnic table I heartily recommend buying a bottle of the Golden Ale and making friends with your neighbors. Also tried some of our new friend's Witbier which wasn't being sampled that day and had a nice grapefruit kick to it. This is definitely a great choice for beer lovers, especially if you're into Belgiums. And I love their graphics, great job! read more
