They don't offer unsweetened matcha here. :( They premix the matcha powder with "lots of sugar". This usually means it is not high quality matcha powder because high quality matcha does not need sugar. Sugar is used to mask the bitter taste of low grade matcha. It's a super cute place overall and they have great service but I disappointed by the matcha. read more

I've given this place atleast half a dozen tries and each time, there's nothing to write home about. Ok, the coffee is decent, at decent prices. But the food, especially the sandwiches leave me puzzled. Think breakfast sandwich for 9-11$ but cold bread, stingy meat, slapped together with no flavor and definitely no love. It's totally something I could find in a hospital cafeteria kind of quality. With my sweet sweet tooth, I've also tried many of the baked goods and pastries---they're seriously meh and I've seen flies buzzing around :(. If I had to choose one pastry, it would be the ham and cheese croissant warmed up. I will say the space is large and pleasant in the sense that you're not sitting so close to your neighbors. It's a nice place to meet up with someone for a meeting or study date. I get my car washed nearby and sometimes have to wait an hour or more, so I'll walk over and it's more than convenient. I like the large glass windows where you can see the bakers at work. It seems as though there's a creamery/ice cream fountain concept in the front right of the store, but I've yet ever to see it open and operating. I'm always looking for new and yummy ice cream spots so that would be very cool. read more

My chai was a bit lukewarm and not as flavorful spicewise as I had hoped, but my Spicy Club was tasty! And truthfully the vibe definitely made up for it. In fact, there was a surprising amount of space for laptop workers and casual coffee drinkers alike (uncommon in Boston). This was my first adventure to Forge Baking Company.  Instantly you are hit with an industrial/modern vibe with large glass windows letting in natural light.  They have two counters which can be kind of confusing but I went to order coffee at the one across from the bathrooms (both are free to the public).  Ended up ordering a plain black coffee which had a slight floral/sour note to it on initial taste.  The more I tried it the more I ended up liking the floral tones that came out of it. Beans are from Intelligentsia Coffee (Chicago Based 3rd wave brand) which I pleasantly enjoyed. Coming on a weekday mid afternoon you'll find that it isn't too crowded.  There usually is a table available which is nice for working/studying (Wifi is free!).  Restaurants/bakeries strive to connect the customer to the baker/chef which Forge excels at.  They have 3 large windows which allow you to view the bakers at work making pastries.  Being able to connect to the food that is being produced is a huge plus.  The conversations around me were not too loud and didn't really distract me (If you want a quiet coffee shop to do hardcore work this is not the place). My only reserve from giving it 5 stars was the cleanliness.  There were multiple tables with dirty dishes leftover/trash on the floor.  I saw two tables with napkins and straw wrappers lying on the floor (kind of nasty imo). Sorry, forgot to take pictures. If you are thinking about coming here you MUST! Had the Turkey & Bacon sandwich on the Maple Oat bread. Had it with the Dijon Spread instead of the Chipotle Spread (I am not a fan of anything with Chipotle but you may like it). It has to be the best sandwich I have had out in a long time. Everything on the sandwich was perfect! We also had the Egg & Cheese sandwich which was good. Brought a Ham & Cheese Crescent home. Had 2 drinks as well. Everything together with tip was $42. I thought this was a little pricey but it was definitely worth it. All the bread and pastries are made in house so they are spectacular. read more

The breakfast sandwiches here are soooo good. The focaccia bread is to die for. I commented to my friends that the bread is so soft and I'm used to cutting my mouth on hard rolls. Not here at Forge! I have passed by this trendy little cafe many times during my frequent trips to Dollar Tree next door. Each time, I take a little pause to smell the heavenly scent of baking bread that seems to always surround the nearby area. When I finally got a chance to indulge my longtime curiosity about this spot, I was very excited. I came here to meet a friend after a challenging spin workout, so I was famished. I ordered the Autobahn because I can never say no to fresh mozzarella. They were out of sourdough, and offered me a choice of sourdough or their house multigrain - I chose the latter! My first impression of the sandwich was that it was very big. Come if you're hungry, share with a friend, or save half to go. The bread slices were very thick and there was mozzarella and turkey aplenty. Seating can be tricky. I arrive in the late afternoon and almost all the seats were taken. Plenty of people were there with their books and laptops. The ambiance is very comfortable with strong Pinterest vibes. read more

It is a place where you enter your own order at the counter computer tablet, wait patiently, then take out. The tables have bee removed since the pandemic. Cafe mocha and a croissant $10. I always give a 20% tip. Problem I had was a charge I noticed on the receipt for 39 cents labeled "house charge". WTF?A built in gratuity? So I will spend $12 for coffee & croissant plus tip sparingly in the future. read more

I visited on 5/2/19 around 7pm and ordered the Sequoia and a coffee milkshake. The sandwich was a very generous portion- I came in ravenous and honestly had some trouble finishing the sandwich - but it was so tasty I couldn't help myself! As for the shake - honestly the best coffee shake I have ever had. And I have had a LOT of coffee shakes. The coffee flavor really shines here - it is not overpowering, nor dominated by the sugary sweetness of the shake. It was a little thick when served but softened up quite nicely as I ate my sandwich. Overall - neat and enticing space, friendly staff and tasty food. I certainly look forward to returning! read more

The coffee and food at forge is great- you can't go wrong and the people working there are really friendly and helpful. I love the pumpkin muffin (very moist, not to sweet) and any bread you get will rock your socks off. It is a bit on the pricier side (sandwiches and salads for 13 bucks). I haven't had their ice cream but I heard it's amazing. Forge is great for studying and working if you need to focus and don't need WiFi, but if you do need internet do not come here. Hip, spacious coffee shop/cafe/bread baking company (and apparently ice cream too!) tucked away in Somerville. Food & drink prices are on par with a more "local hipster" establishment and has a good vibe in it. Plenty of seating (but it gets busy on a weekend!), outlets, free WiFi, and the coolest part - you can look in on the prep area where they make & bake the bread and pastries! I'm trying the chocolate croissant next time for sure! I had the "Spicy Club" which was pretty good, didn't realize the chicken was served cold, but tasty nonetheless. The pickles that came with were a nice spicy sweet, but a bit "limp". Nitro iced coffee is pretty solid and they have some fun looking seasonal drinks. Will definitely be stopping back to try more of the pastries & drinks! read more

Incredible place. Lots of things to eat and amazing bread all around. People tend to hang out in the space to work, use the wifi, enjoy the natural light in the front. Prices are very reasonable for the portions. Their avocado toast for breakfast is one of my favorites because it's only $5 and is simple on delicious bread. $5 for avocado toast is almost impossible to come by in the area and the bread is really amazing. Forge recently downsized my favorite of theirs, the everything monkey bread. It's nearly half the size for the same price... Now I really can't justify coming back unless I just want some bread, since I am not a fan of their food or coffee. This is my boyfriend's and my favorite neighborhood cafe. The cappuccino is smokey with deliciously thick foam, and the egg radish root vegetable sandwich is incredible. I don't eat bread but the homemade breads look dreamy. We love the high walls, wood floors and tables, and friendly staff. Great addition to the neighborhood! Classic soda fountain interior with cool granite and chrome, combined with tasty ice cream and homemade whipped cream makes Forge Ice Cream bar a real treat! The ice cream bar is an extension to the original Forge Bakery next door. There is limited seating along the bar and windows on the ice cream side. We went for a classic sundae with the malted vanilla ice cream and chocolate chip ice cream together with caramel sauce and almonds. It overflowed from the vintage glass ice cream bowl and was consumed quickly on a date for two. Recommended date spot - especially on the walk home from Union Square or Aeronaut when the sweet tooth kicks in. read more

This place is a bit perplexing. I really like a lot about what it has to offer, but it falls short on a few key areas. Pros: cool wide open layout as it looks like it was built out of an old warehouse, giant canvases on the wall that set a great mood, plenty of seating for studying/ working, free wi-fi, and a big window in the back where you can view them baking their bread, and the bread is delicious (you'll notice with the sandwiches) Cons: prices are high for both coffee and food, coffee quality is just mediocre, (my chai latte really missed today), service can be slow during prime time, portions are relatively small compared to price I've been here 4-5 times to work/ study and love it for that. It's also a good place to hang for a while with friends. I would just warn it's not going to blow you away with the actually coffee & sandwiches... which it should given the prices. Anyways, it's relatively new and these are things they should fix over time. Worth checking out especially if you need to post up for a few hours! read more

I am quickly becoming a fan of Forge. It's an amazing industrial space, with lots of tables, free Wi-Fi and delicious food. Today's lunch was their 626, a roasted vegetable and chicken salad sandwich. It's not quite like anything I've had before, but the amazing flavor of the roasted vegetables on top of the chicken salad really made this for me. This plus a large tea cost me $16, so that's the only thing that I would make you aware of. The sandwich itself was large, as was the tea, but I would've expected to pay more like 12 for the total. However, for the atmosphere and the ability to sit for an hour or so really make this still a worthwhile investment. Oh, don't forget to try their oatmeal chocolate chip cookie! I was really excited to go to Forge Baking. I trudged all the way to the middle of nowhere for a cardamon latte and a sandwich. The coffee was beautiful latte art, but the Broadway sandwich was just meh. The bread was the wrong texture, there were kind of weird vegetables (okay, they didn't taste like roasted onions - they tasted like vegetable cardboard), and overall, it was unsatisfactory - especially for the price! I mean I think I paid like $18 for a latte and a sandwich. I could have bought three discount DVDs at Target for that! However, the atmosphere was great - beautiful signage, antiquities, and fun people watching for sure. Maybe a nice, quiet place to study or read - but the food...just go to Flour instead. P.S. My husband and I love pretty much everything from Forge! We first tried their baked goods through Bloc, and we love the almond bun! The plain croissant is probably our favorite in the city, and we've tried A LOT. Bagels are very good too, and the London fog scone is super unique and delicious! Attempted to order a bagel like most union coffee shops run on the socialist model which leads to scarcity and high prices. They were out of bagels or had one cinnamon raisin bagel left with two choices left of cream cheese. I ordered what they had and edited 25 minutes and no response do I finally asked about my complicated order and was informed it was still waiting be completed as they were busy. It wasn't that busy and all of us were annoyed ... I finally told them to keep my $ for their union plus tip wages for such excellent wages and left without my bagel. I can bake my own faster. Plus my hourly wage as a licensed medical psychologist is over 150$/ hr so it was no longer worth my time to wait. read more

Forge is a quaint little bakery and coffee shop that I've come to a few times. The atmosphere is fun, with several window seats, and even a little viewing spot to the bakery. The menu is pricey-- don't get me wrong, but the work that goes into everything on the menu is unreal. Meat is always going to cost you extra, so expect this. This makes my bacon-loving soul hurt, but the breakfast sandwich I just had was so amazing that I really can't complain. Also, forge makes a mean cup of coffee.
