My wife and I came to Forge on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon. The tasting room inside was very cozy and inviting but the seating area outside was breathtaking. They have a perfect view of the lake and it's high enough on a hill that you can see a good quarter of it. There are numerous fire pits around that helped take the chill off. They brought us our flight and explained the differences to each wine. They've taken Riesling and turned it to an art form. The cheese plate was fantastic. They were very friendly to our dog. I'm so glad my husband and I stopped here during our visit to The Finger Lakes. The view is beautiful, and the winery dogs were an added bonus! The majority of their wines were Riesling; they were decent, but I would preferred more variety. Though they have over 15 or more wines available to consume they only have one tasting option that allows you to try 4 rieslings and one red wine. If you want to try any otherst they have a few available by the glass for at least $10 or you can buy a bottle!. That is a horrendous tasting experience why buy a bottle of something you have not even tasted. And if you were looking to get any sort of attentive information about the wines that you were consuming you have come to the wrong place. Sure some tasting experiences you can have overbearing hosts when you really would like a little bit of space but not here. Here, all you get is space you don't get any help or any information or any attentiveness. Sadly the wine is good but this is not a review of the wine this is a review of the experience that we had. Probably one of my favorite wine tastings I've done in the Finger Lakes! Beautiful property, really nice staff, and fantastic wines. We did their Summer House tasting, which consisted of a cellar tour, educational tasting, and food pairing. Janella was phenomenal leading us through the experience. She was very personable, and talked about the wines with a palpable, contagious passion. We got a piece of cheese and local salami to pair. We tasted through 8 wines, all of which were delicious. Ended up really loving their Chardonnay and bought a bottle of their 2023 vintage. Very reasonable prices too! read more

This spot is really beautiful and from what I understand they did an update to the vineyard. They have a private tasting room along with the other tasting room. They have a fire pit outside and a few fireplaces inside. It's light and bright and comfortable. They have their own wines on the walls along with other notables and they have a sister vineyard in France. Staff is knowledgeable but....when I asked for a spittoon for my wine I got the side eye. I've done trade tastings before so it's usually offered or a glass of water oh well. The wines on the only flight they had were Riesling so and one Pinot Noir. Unfortunately (which I did not know Rieslings are something they are known for for) I found the four of the ones I tasted were bone dry which is fine but these were a bit agressive and although the nose on these wines were pretty good I found them to be flat. Yes I understand 100% wine is subjective. The Pinot Noir was very light in color and the nose was not exactly pleasant. The wine itself was ok at best. Now I understand in a tasting room things might taste different considering items may have been colder but bottles sitting out to be poured into vessels for a tasting ate different than if you have a bottle at home and you gave it a 30 or more cool off in your fridge. There were a few other things I wanted to try but they did not offer them by the glass. I get it you want to push the bottles and the charcuterie I get it.. The vibe I got was it's warm but had a hipster vibe and trying to find this spot was not easy. No signs or a small sign to find it. You will have to rely on your navigation to find this place. When we left the only way you know the name of this place was "Forge" on the mailbox no joke. I think they want this place to be a niche wine type of situation.Basically you got to know where it is and like their wines. I was here two years ago when they were in the old tasting room and I was so impressed that I came back even though I don't do second tastings in the same place normally. If you are in the Finger Lakes area and you are looking for great wine...Forge Cellars is your place to go. My friends and I spent 4 days in the Finger Lakes and went to numerous wineries in the area, and Forge was by far the favorite of our whole group. For starters, the venue is absolutely stunning. There is one building with the bar and another building over looking the lake and mountain. The venue has a variety of fire pits outside, and the inside feels cabin-ey and inviting. When my friends and I went (we ended up going twice because it was that amazing), the staff were extremely knowledgeable about the wines. They typically offer tastings (when they are not in harvest season), which is what my friends and I opted in for. The server walked us through each of the wines (3 rieslings and a red) and told us everything that we needed to know about how each wine was made. You could genuinely feel the passion behind the wine as he told us about them. And the wine...throughout our whole weekend, we compared all of our wines and experiences to Forge, and they just didn't measure up. Forge's wines were absolutely stunning with dry rieslings, and they had a red called Bon Bon that was also out of this world. The wines are absolutely worth the visit...or if you are interested in getting wine shipped to your house, we have since ordered 3 cases of wine because it is THAT good. I honestly have nothing but amazing things to say about Forge, and I highly recommend to anyone visiting the Finger Lakes region. read more

This vineyard was incredibly beautiful with breathtaking views. We unfortunately had Anthony as our wine steward who was nothing short of pretentious and arrogant. We have visited vineyards across the country from Napa to Texas to Virginia and I have never encountered a vineyard employee who made me feel more unfairly judged. The wine was outstanding. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I am picky but this place has no flaws, I would live here if I could. We where welcomed with no reservations into a large patio area made with beautiful aged wood (the place smells of aged wood) and given the only flight they have. It doesn't matter if you like sweet or dry, every wine they have is amazing. I highly recommend the cheese plate with it. It's goat cheese with Amish honey and salt and it's an amazing combination. Great stop on the east side of Seneca Lake while doing the Finger Lakes Wine Trail. This winery only does Riesling & Pino Noir, but does them well and helps show the differences of the grapes. They are starting to grow their own but also get grapes from multiple vineyards for different flavors. You need to make a reservation for tastings and these are currently limited to a couple tastings on the weekend (Friday 3p & 5p, Saturday 10:30a & 2p, and Sunday 12:30p). You can stop by to purchase wine during other times as well. There are no signs so look for a barn with black siding and barrels at the driveway. The tasting is nice and as small group up to 16. You will arrive at a large barn with open seating areas that have beautiful stained wood and then they have table set up for the tasting in the room also used for sorting and processing the grapes. With the small group the tasting included 7 wines and great stories and explanations of the wines & grapes. They also allow you to re-taste to help compare between the wines. The wines were very tasty overall and it was interesting to hear what other preferences were between the wines and why. When we were there they had one 2017 and the rest were the recently released 2018 wines. They also had multiple that were single vineyards which really helps compare the same grape variety grown in different locations along the lake. You can tell the team is passionate about the wines and learning about what makes the grapes taste how they do. We stopped at Forge last summer based on our B&B owner's recommendation during our FLX vacation. It was love at first tasting. Their bone-dry rieslings are superb. (We returned again this month when visiting FLX region). Each variety is grown on small blocks along the eastern side of Seneca Lake hills. Forge partners with each farmer who owns the plots. Their tasting facility is an open-space whereby their walls slide open to allow an expanse of Seneca Lake. A new tasting space will open soon, if not already. read more

Incredible wine and incredible staff. We came here from a recommendation from another winery, and we were delighted with their bone dry rieslings and cool climate pinots. The space is big and open, with gorgeous views of Seneca if it's a nice day. The team is super hospitable -- Alek and Amy are super kind, and serve lovely snacks like aged cheddar and Spanish ham on toasted baguettes. Forge Cellars is a small artisanal producer that specializes in dry riesling and pinot noir. The rieslings here are fermented in neutral french oak barrels as it has been done back in the day. While we were there, we got to see riesling being pumped from the vat into bottles, which was a rare sighting in the Finger Lakes wineries. Inside the tasting room, we sat among French barrels and tasted wine in a small group.The wines here are truly sophisticated. The tasting room experience was very intimate and unique as well.
