We REALLY wanted to love this place. Visiting the area for the first time, it was recommended and had great reviews so we were looking forward to our dinner experience. If I could have changed the review to one star for the food I would, but our server was stellar. Immediately upon sitting down we eyeballed beautiful dirty martinis being served at our neighboring table. We promptly ordered the same, indicating we wanted "what they were having" but ours arrived as clear, pretty much straight up vodka. The server was very obliging to bring a side of olive juice, but somehow it just never comes together when you try to make a DIY dirty after the fact... something gets lost in the process and the benefit of all the lovely cold shaking vanishes. A second dirty martini was, however on the mark. We had trouble picking a first course/small plate because all the options sounded great. After perusing the previous yelp photos of other people's experiences, we started with the tuna poke bowl. Unlike the bright red cubes of fresh tuna we had seen, this was a melange of gray tuna that looked distinctively UNappetizing. The bright spots were the colorful carrot ribbons and seaweed, but even when we mixed everything up, there was nothing to bring the flavors together. It was incredibly bland and the tuna so visually unappealing we just tried to mask it with the other garnishes. A few drizzles of Siracha Mayo or soy ginger or wasabi or anything really to bring in salt or heat or freshness. I've never eaten grey tuna unless it's over cooked, but since this was raw poke we fully expected the signature bright, red chunks that signal fresh ahi. This looked regurgitated. For our entree we chose the hanger steak and truffle fries. Even though we ordered the steak medium rare...it was so unevenly cooked that we had to slice off several inedible pieces that were simply too rare to eat. Flavor was clearly absent again as the meat had only a slight taste of the refrigerator it came from and nothing more. Salt and pepper did nothing to help. The truffle fries were the exception tho. Perfectly cooked and super crispy with the perfect balance of saltiness from the fresh Parmesan and a little decadent oiliness from the truffle. We decided to try the tres leches cake for dessert when we noticed a yummy looking cobbler being served at the next table. Again, we picked the wrong thing as it was weirdly thick and dense. Tres leches, even tho soaked is usually light. This was not. Although the flavor wasn't bad, it was overall another disappointment. It put a period on the exclamation mark that we wouldn't come back. I have to wonder if the chef/sous chefs are actually tasting what's coming out of their kitchen. Maybe it's a hit or miss and the bar food is better, (the wings and burgers looked great) but unfortunately it was a BIG miss with everything we ordered. read more
