I've tried something new from this menu every time I've gone, and I have never been disappointed. The Mac and Cheese with bacon and broccoli is my personal favorite at the moment. Yes, sometimes there's a wait but that is just proof of how good the place is! We've been checking in on an app so we can get in line while we're driving over. But most of the time, I've had no problem waiting because there's a bar with great bartenders that make the waiting go quickly. Give it a whirl if you're in the area. read more

This is great food with nice, highly-trained staff with amazing service. So we chose this restaurant in downtown Mukwonago on our way to Rockford, IL for a decent sit-down restaurant. I really liked the Pork Stroganoff soup, one of the soups of Saturday. It definitely tastes like the best soups you can ever imagine to eat, just made from scratch. The entree I had - Build your Own Mac'n Cheese (with bacon, Andouille, and jalapenos) had great macaroni pasta with melted Wisconsin cheese and the three toppings of choice. Should I say, that was delicious! My mom had the Brisket Melt, with house-smoked beef brisket, cheddar cheese, jalapeno aioli, sauteed spinach, mushroom, and onion, on a grilled panini bread. Went to Fork in the Road for a Friday night dinner, arriving a few minutes after 7:00PM. We were told the wait would be 30-45 minutes, and 45 it was. We ordered a drink at the bar to pass the time. MY CC and sweet (Canadian Club and Seven Up) was terrible; a tall glass full of ice, with flat , no carbonation, white soda and barely a hint of alcohol. When texted that our table was ready, we were guided through a room with at least twelve empty tables to our table in the back room, making us wonder why we had to wait 45 minutes. We ordered dinner right away, my wife ordering fish tacos and I the walleye fish fry. The waitress brought my coleslaw which was more like coleslaw soup, extremely watery as if they were trying hard to get one more serving out of the slaw container, and a small rye roll the size of your thumb on a small plate. Then we waited another 20-25 minutes for our meals, keeping in mind that the two rooms we have seen were practically empty. When someone, not our waitress, brought the entrees, she picked up the small plate with still a half-of-a-thumb of rye roll on it so I said to her, "if you are not going to bring anymore bread, don't take that." She didn't, nor did more bread arrive. The fish tacos were especially spicy but not to extent my wife could not eat them. I tried a bite and would have sent them back, which I should have done with the walleye. It was just plain bad; over-cooked, dry with a breading reminiscent of course grade sandpaper. At no point did anyone come to our table to ask how things were, a testament to my restraint and their bad service. The only time our original waitress came back to the table, the one who took our order while lying about being the one "who will be serving you tonight", was to hand me the bill. When I handed her my card and the drink tab as well, she told me I would have to go back to the bar to pay the drink bill. When I told her that wasn't going to happen, since no one, meaning the bartender, had mentioned that earlier, she took the bar tab. Given the poor quality of the drink, the food and the service, I can honestly say I would not go back to the Fork in the Road if they paid me. read more

Restaurant is not practicing safe social distancing protocols. Ordered to go, took 20 minutes to get food, while having to wait in the bar area. Staff not overly friendly. When food opened at home, it was clear that mac and cheese was microwaved. They add on a 10% gratuity for all to go orders which they tell you about when you pick up. Wow! What a place. Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday, very busy and loud but such a great environment. Had their Old Fashions, made to perfection, no syrup just the real concoction. Waitress was super sweet and very honed in on her customer service skills. Had the meatball soup and chicken pot pie soup, excellent. Ham and cheese special was great, chicken wrap with bacon was very tasty. Best item was the epic Mac & cheese side. Better than any restaurant around including Noodles. Next time I will be ordering just the Mac dish. Great spot, will be back very soon!! read more

Looking on the outside you would never guess how nice it looks inside. Good service. Some of the staff had not tried everything on the menu, which I feel if you're a good restaurant, you should be certain your staff has tasted everything on the menu. Bartender was very knowledgeable and had about appreciation for the type of salads on the menu. Salad was very good, I enjoyed the toasted goat cheese. Delicious food. Came up for the daughter's birthday. Drove from Chicago and well worth it. Marisa was the best waitress we had in a long long long time. My Reuben sandwich was perfect. My daughter Julie (the birthday girl) granddaughter, wife and son all had a macaroni specialty dish, which they truly loved. Nice ambiance. Went here Saturday afternoon for lunch. Absolutely phenomenal food and service. We've been here a few time and it never disappoints. It's sure a good thing I'm from Madison and not Mukwonago or I might never eat anything besides Fork in the Road's Mac and Cheese. My mom and I enjoyed lunch here on a Saturday, as she is a recent transplant to the town. (Thank goodness!). Our waitress was pleasant and attentive and our food arrived very quickly. We both had martinis, which were incredible. My Tiramisu tasted almost exactly like the dessert. The side salad was delicious. And the Macaroni... Well, let's just say I'm buying the ring and getting down on one knee for that cheesy goddess any day now. I will absolutely return. read more

I'm revising my initial take on this place based on recommendation by a friend. Twice now I have ordered off the menu and it was fabulous, the prime rib sandwich was amazing! While driving through Mukwonago we stopped at this lovely restaurant and left not only surprised but very satisfied! Our server, Rebecca, was very friendly, uplifting, and her suggestions were spot on! We started with the stuffed cabbage soup which was her suggestion, and totally AMAZING! We also ordered their famous mac and cheese, and their Reuben sandwich to split; both of which were some of the best I've ever had. The mac and cheese was creamy, full of flavor and had the perfect cheese sauce/macaroni ratio. The Reuben was exactly how we like it, multiple LAYERS of sauerkraut, sauce and tender corned beef. Met a colleague here for lunch and was greeted by not one, but a team of two servers. Before thoroughly looking at the menu, I mentioned to the server I was eating gluten free. She pointed out the gluten free Mac and cheese, burgers and sandwiches which could be served on a GF bun, and salads. She also explained any fried foods ordered would be cross contaminated since they don't have a separate fryer. I know this from reading up on GF, but never had a server mention it. I thought she was very conscientious and I appreciate that! Avoiding cross contamination is especially important for those with Celiac disease. Back to the Mac and Cheese. I settled on this since it isn't too often you see GF pasta on a menu. I added chicken, broccoli and mushrooms. It was delicious. It was also served with a house salad featured sugared walnuts and a lemon/mayo dressing. It was very good! The owner circulates and checks in with his customers as well. He teased me that I didn't finish my lunch and I told him it was so good I wanted to save some to take home. read more

We LOVE this place. It was an old hotel before it burned. It was rebuilt (only about 1/2 the size), and they have old pics up showing what it looked like before. There is a bar on one side, and a dining room on the other. My wife and I went there for a quick lunch, and decided we needed to try it for dinner. My wife had the Mac and Cheese. It' was very rich and creamy. I had the prime rib. It was tender, and tasty. But what you really need to try is the Champagne Chicken soup. It was about the best soup I've eaten. What a disappointing lunch. First the dining room is dark & dingy with only canned light bulbs shining down. When we tried to open the window shades to read the menus the waitress said she didn't like that and closed them. Wood floors made the noise level about a 10. Food was really medicroe. We had spinach/artichoke dip which was gummy and no taste. Our reuben's were tasteless exp for the crout. Won't try again. read more

Our group of 10 recently dined here and everything was fantastic. I never would have expected a menu quite as diverse and broad as this. Several people in my group are food and wine snobs and sent their wine and food back to test the waitress (to my embarrassment) but our waitress handled it well. It was about 1pm & I pulled up the map on my phone, searched food and this place came up. Read a couple reviews and thought we'd give it a try since we were only about 10 minutes away. I am so glad we stopped. It was one of the best meals that I have had in a long time. The hostess and waitresses were so nice. My water cup was refilled constantly without even having to ask (and I drink a lot of water). I asked about the soup of the day and when she told me pumpkin soup I said "ewww". She asked if I'd like to try it. She promptly returned with samples of both soups of the day. Oh my gosh! The pumpkin soup was so good. I have never had anything like it. Pumpkin, spices and a "little kick" added great flavor. I would come back just for that. I also had the portobello mushroom wrap and that was outstanding as well. My husband had the steak sandwich and he said it was very good too. Both meals were very filling. I will definitely be back as there are plenty of other things on the menu I would like to try. WOW. We were on our way home from dropping our son off at Alpine Valley to ski and stopped here on the Yelp recommendation. What a great place. The menu has some great variety and I can't wait to go back and try something else. The owner is a very friendly guy and also very visible thru out the restaurant, also has a great sense of humor. Lunch on Wednesday 8/14, so impressed with the menu that I ordered lunch AND took home a salad. Fish tacos for lunch, Greco salad to go home and just amazing. I asked our waitress for permission to take the menu with me, so my husband could see why an excuse to go there was necessary. Black and white fries, simple, sure, but tasty and crisp. It. Was. Amazing. I had the Knife & Fork Club (juicy chicken breast, bacon, the perfect amount of avocado and apricot mayo -- topped with lettuce, tomato and red onion ... tasty tasty), and their spicy black beans as a side. They've got a variety of yummy-sounding sides to go along with any of their sandwiches (slaw, pasta salad, standard fry, etc.). They also have some stellar sauces for sandwich or fry dipping. I tried the lime habenero, which was delish. Friend got her go-to pretzel-crusted chicken. It looked tasty, but I didn't try it. The bartender/server was very nice, and the food came out fast. YUMMMMMM! As a Wisconsin native, I am plenty used to the traditional Friday night fish fry. Fork in the Road takes it to another (classier) level! We went the day after Thanksgiving and didn't have much of a wait, which I hear is quite unusual for this establishment. So, if you're going to head out for a Fri night fish fry, get there early, or be prepared for a wait! The bartender was friendly and the list of festive holiday mixed drink options, regular drinks, & beer was excellent. A round of drinks for 5 with two beers, a mixed drink, & two soft drinks was a mere $20 (much friendlier on the wallet than Atlanta!) So what did the vegetarian have for the fish fry? Well, obviously not fish! I was prepared to be stuck eating a lousy side salad or french fries but was extremely happy to see several options for me, most of which included fabulous Wisconsin CHEESE! Being a fan of mac & cheese, I opted for the pick-your-own, which was enough for 2 meals. It's a base of amazing m&c, and then you select 3 additional ingredients, ranging from bacon to spinach. I selected spinach, fresh red pepper, & sun dried tomatoes. Seems odd, right? NOPE - delectable! It also came with a soup or salad side option and I chose the salad. It was an excellent mixture of greens, candied walnuts, & house made dressing. Everyone seemed happy with their fish selections and the bread and cheese curds were quite good too. We ate here for dinner tonight and it was a big disappointment. So loud I could not talk with anyone at our table. My fish fry was one of the worst I have ever had. The fish was cooked so it almost didn't resemble fish, the cole slaw was inedible and the rye bread was a bread stick. We will not be wasting any time here in the future read more

We were on vacation visiting the in-laws nearby when we decided to eat here based on the reviews and were not disappointed. It was freezing outside so we all got soup to warm up and all of them were good. I had the French Onion and it was one of the best I've ever had. Everyone was blown away by their food. I had the Rochester burger and immediately put it up there with one of the best I've ever had. It had a nice kick to it from the jalapenos and there was a sauce on it which was very tasty, but the block cheese which melted and oozed out from every bite made this burger a tier above any other I've ever had. I was very sad I didn't have time to come back and try some other menu items but I'll be back in the summer! read more

Fried chicken pretty good. Nice atmosphere, a bit noisy. Too many "up charges" such as changing soup, salad for coleslaw, all white or dark meat, and my personal favorite- an extra piece of corn bread. Oh and one more issue, the server asked if we would like more chicken (meal was "all you can eat") and my friend asked for one drum stick and was told she couldn't specify the piece. I've been consistently impressed with the sandwiches and salads here, particularly the Fork Chicken Salad and Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. I'm not crazy about the appetizers, but the entree portions here are large enough to skip the apps anyway. If you're in Mukwonago, this should be your first choice for an American meal. read more

My daughter and I visited a few weeks ago. We were greeting by a loud and kind of harsh man with a thick accent. I had to ask him a couple of times what he was saying...it sounded like he was yelling at me for something...I just walked in the door. I guess he was asking if we were together or separate.... He needs to work on his approach. It made our initial entry a bit uncomfortable. Thankfully our waitress was bubbly and sweet. With our special requests, she was on point, no mistakes. We tried the fried chicken which was good...nothing special but good enough. We also tried their mac and cheese which you add up to 3 ingredients to customize it to your tastes. That was neat and delicious...though the leftovers didn't warm up well (nobody's fault...just a tip). The atmosphere was comfortable but a bit noisy...which didn't bother me too much. If it weren't for the borderline rude man at the front and a slightly inattentive (we ran out of drinks....a no-no in the restaurant biz) but lovely waitress...I would have given it a 4 star. Don't get me wrong. We will be going back to try it again next week. Hopefully I can come back and change my rating :) read more
