This post is about the personnel of this gym. Facilities of the gym are good and renovated - Forma invested quite a money to the gym. And that's why this gym is pricey, I guess. The personnel: all contacts are tied to managers. The staff on reception is useless in most cases - all their job is greeting and chat with each other. They have no any authority to help you with any paperwork. Simple questions like to print payment receipts, or payment history will require manager. Membership cancellation is also via management only. All questions to be discussed with managers, and most of the time are out or very busy. When you call, they are no there and never return a call. When you live a message on reception to call you back, they never call. So I found the best way to communicate is emailing them. read more

I am an outdoor person when it comes to exercise but I really enjoy my experience at Forma gym now where I spend most of my weekly exercise time. You will be greated as you walk through the door by a welcoming staff and personalized contact. Also the premises and floor are always clean and at all times there is a shiny floor and well maintained outdoor area. I am very pleased with the specific choice of equipment for indoor as well as outdoor workout. I tried and also enjoy group classes where I mostly participate in spinning classes with Mark or Dan who are great instructors and pushing me to the next level. At the end of my workout, I enjoy relaxing in the hot sauna and clean showers with everything needed. I am madly, madly in love with this gym. To start, I had no intention of joining Forma when I came in for my trial. I had recently gotten into swimming for low/no-impact cardio and was drawn to their outdoor pool. Indoor pools are gross and toxic; a week before I signed up for my trial I swam in a 24 hour fitness indoor pool and it *literally* bleached the bottoms I was wearing. They were black when I went in and brown when I got out. So I decided to check out the place knowing that I would never, ever join such a bourgie gym where I was sure everyone would be snobby and lame. I was SO WRONG. Right off the bat I was charmed by the friendliness of the front desk staff, then I was thrown into the tornado of Christian's high energy tour through the gym. He was very knowledgeable, warm and funny and somehow deflected every sarcastic, cynical barb I threw at him. I was still sure that there was no way I would ever pay the monthly costs when I could go to a crappier gym for a third of the price. But he chipped away at my armor... by the end of the tour I was still sure I wasn't going to join... well kind of sure... well, maybe I'd consider it... 3 things changed my mind in the end. 1) The locker room. It's like a fancy spa with a jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, high quality toiletries and towel service. 2) The staff. It was impossible to maintain my misconception that everyone there would be snooty when faced with the friendliness of the staff (Jack, Ryan, Gabby, Christian; they're all awesome). I walk in now and am greeted *by name* by no less than 2-3 staff members every time. 3) The pool. After the 3 day trial I was so in love with this gym and the people there that I went ahead and signed up. I thought about how much money I spend on little things and coffee, then I thought about the $129 I was paying monthly for an Orange Theory membership that only allowed me to go 8 times a month. So I signed up, got my 2 free sessions with a personal trainer and met Maks. Once again, I wasn't going to get suckered into personal training. But.... I'd been having lower back pain for a few months and a chronic ankle injury for the last 4 years. The physical therapy appts I'd had at Kaiser were pretty much pointless and a massage therapist friend suggested I could try working with a personal trainer. I was low key skeptical but, and I'm not exaggerating, after my first training session with Maks my lower back pain lessened by about 85%. After a month of weekly sessions it was almost gone completely. More importantly though, 6 weeks in and I have almost NO ankle pain on a daily basis. It used to hurt to walk 300 ft. I can go an entire day on my feet now, walking around, standing, and it feels just fine. I've worked out with personal trainers before but it was never like this. Maks is attentive, super knowledgable (but explains things in a way you can understand) and great about tailoring your workouts to your specific goals and physical needs. I'm so relieved to not be experiencing this constant ankle pain it makes me want to cry. It's been really frustrating and I was at the point where I was sure that it was a hopeless situation and I'd just be stuck with this bum ankle for the rest of my life. Omg. This review is so long. Love being back here! My husband and I were members at Club One back in the day and just rejoined a few months ago. They have made significant updates since the Club One days. I love all the new equipment and the locker rooms are gorgeous and very well maintained. The staff is incredible here. The front desk is always very welcoming as well as the training and sales staff. Christian was our first introduction back and gave us our tour and got us dialed in back at the club. Not only was he incredibly thorough but he was also very entertaining and has been every day since. Can't say enough good things about Christian. He's very professional and helpful without being overly sales-ey and pushy. So...yes it is a bit more expensive than other clubs in the area. Here's my arguments about that. Having spent the last several years at some of the "cheaper" options in south San Jose, I'm happy to pay a bit more to get some of the amenities that Forma provides and to not have to deal with some of the issues that I've encountered at other gyms. ~ Everything is impeccably clean. There's staff constantly wiping down the equipment and there's never weights lying around the floor. There's rarely a time that I'm in the locker room that there isn't an attendant keeping that area clean and stocked with towels. ~ There's 80+ classes a week. Way more variety than I've seen at any other club. ~ The outdoor area is gorgeous! The pool, jacuzzi and lounge area give you the feel of being at a relaxing spa. There's an outdoor fitness/turf area and a few table games which I've never seen anywhere else before. ~ They offer a wide variety of weights and machines that are very good quality. There are TV's on most of the cardio machines that offer not only TV but also some apps for you to play with for those of us that need a little distraction while working up a sweat. ~ It's not nearly as busy as many places I've belonged to. Even at the peak times, I haven't had much of an issue using the equipment I need which is one of my pet peeves at other gyms. ~ The vibe is very comfortable. Everyone is for the most part very respectful. Not a lot of over-inflated egos or "hey" guys. You know the ones I'm talking about... ~ Full service spa! I got a much needed massage from Bryan to help out with my back pain and loved it. He listened to what my complaints were and really worked to help me start to get some relief. Will be going back for another soon. ~ The women's locker room has been renovated and is very luxurious. The lighting and decor in the sauna/steam room/shower area is very relaxing and inviting complete with soothing music playing in the background. My only complaint is that the sauna/steam rooms have had a couple issues but have been fixed quickly. ~ The amenities! The locker rooms are fully stocked with everything you need. And the towels...no not just the shower/workout towels...the cold eucalyptus ones are amazing! I highly recommend Forma. I've loved being back and am very happy with the updates they have made. Whatever you do - DO NOT sign up for the annual membership and then end up having to move out of the area! The cancellation process is ridiculous having to show "proof" that you are moving! What if I was cancelling because I just didn't like your gym??? What "proof" would you require then? This is truly a great gym. The staff is always friendly and professional. They encourage feedback and pay attention while you talk to them. The BEST new additional is Kate Shattuck, a message therapist. I've had many massages throughout my life and the ones I've had from Kate are the most EXCELLENT by far. Treat yourself and get a massage from Kate. Your body and mind will be so thankful! We use "weights" in the water aerobics classes and I didn't do one of the exercises correctly and hurt a muscle in my back. I'm so sad I have to cancel my membership but I'm moving! This beautiful luxurious gym has saved my life! I remember when I first got my membership I was in such a bad place desperate to find myself and feel confident about my body again. Now I'm so happy to say that I have and how much I'll miss this oasis of a gym. I remember eating lunch outside and just laying on the turf on the outdoor exercise area at night reminiscing with my friends about how much different and happier my life has truly become. Awesome gym! It's a few extra bucks a month but.... I'm a swimmer so a good pool is a must and they do a very good job keeping it up as well as the space around the pool. The gym equipment is well kept and probably newer than most other gyms near by. Towel service, hot tub (both indoor and outdoor), as well as sauna and steam room both in very clean and newly renovated shower/bathroom/changing rooms. Well worth the few extra bucks! read more

Just a really nice place with a friendly attitude all around. Plenty of equipment that is clean and well maintained, clean spa and pool facilities along with plenty of classes. I like that they are open early and late. Plenty of towels, toiletries and modern entertainment on the treadmills/ellipticals etc. The owner is on site and really stays on top of everything. I've been at this gym for about three years, it's worth every dollar. Fantastic amenities, worth every dollar which is peoples most concern. For me the cleanliness does it, I can't name another gym I would confidently shower and shave at. Lastly- the staff is so nice. UPDATE: When we went to cancel our memberships we were told by Forma customer service that they needed 30 days lead time and that they'd bill us for the next month even though we were 28 days out from the first of the month. It doesn't take that long to cancel an automatic debit so we asked why they needed that much notice. We were told it's because they don't check their email more than every couple of weeks. (This exchange took a while as they weren't very responsive.) We insisted on escalating this, and were told that we'd have to deal with a manager at this location who was CC'd on the email. After multiple attempts at email followups, none of which were answered, we gave up and waited to see what happened. Sure enough, they charged us. We disputed the charges and won. Our guess is that Forma is so disorganized that they never got around to addressing the issue and we won by default. We're now at City Sports, and we see more and more Forma members there all the time. Also, as noted in other reviews, Forma is alienating older members (that's us) by eliminating classes and equipment aimed at us, so we're all leaving. What's interesting is that City Sports already has the younger demographic that Forma wants, and they cost half the price or less than Forma. I don't know what Forma's business plan is, but it's not working. Then again, the management team isn't working either and no one is making any changes there. I'll be curious to see how long they stay in business: there's a lot of competition in the area now. ----- Previous review: My husband and I are leaving this gym for City Sports. We've been members since it was Club One, and seen a couple of ownership changes. I think this company wants to do good, but I sincerely don't think they know how. The construction work that's been going on for years seems to be winding down. The equipment generally works, but when it breaks it takes a LONG time to fix. They've started holding classes in the weight area, which is awkward. They canceled a really popular water aerobics course for some new course that takes place on surf boards and costs $15 per class... so if you want to do it once a week, like we did, it'll cost more than our gym memberships. A lot of the trainers and instructors now seem to be working at other gyms more often than they work at Forma. The management staff is generally not super friendly and work out during prime hours, when members should be using the equipment. Equipment repairs also happen during prime time. It's not unusual for a repair person to block access to four or five elliptical machines while fixing one of them. At one point I spent weeks reporting a series of treadmills as being out of service to the front desk, and finally asked to speak to a manager. He didn't seem to care much, but the machines finally got fixed. Recently a person was sitting in the wet area of the men's locker room with an iPhone, which is a violation of the rules, and appeared to be taking pictures. My husband reported this to the front desk, and they in turn informed a manager (Fabrizio). After waiting 20 minutes my husband left as no one took any action and the guy was still in there. The club is clean. A lot of the equipment is new. But the management makes really weird decisions, from the design of the club, to equipment maintenance, to what classes they'll hold at what price, and a couple of them come across as really arrogant. The front desk staff is stellar, but they seem to change constantly. The only things they offer that other local gyms don't offer are a hot tub and towel service. We checked out three other gyms, and two of them are half the price of Forma: Retro Fitness and the newly opened City Sports. We're going to City Sports. It's too bad--we've been going to this location for eight or nine years, but we're just not feeling the love anymore. read more

I'd first like to start off by giving some backstory of my experiences @ Forma for the review before also responding to some of the ridiculous "racial profiling" reviews on here. I will also include racial details of my experience strictly for the sake of shining light on the real Forma that myself and the other members experience vs these allegations being thrown around. I worked in the fitness industry for the better part of a decade in almost every role. I was a certified trainer, class instructor, club manager, etc. And I must say, the first day I walked into Forma, with my hispanic wife and gorgeous little mixed daughter mind you, we were instantly excited to join. The club is clean, updated with top notch equipment and indoor/outdoor workout space. But the staff is what truly makes Forma amazing from the managers to the cleaners to the PT staff. I have met just about everyone that works there (very racially diverse staff) and they have been helpful and they genuinely care about the members 100%. My 5 year old daughter also loves attending kids club and I get to work out knowing she is in the hands of some amazing folks she totally adores. HUGE BONUS! Which brings me to the unfortunate smear campaign of "racial profiling" brought on by a bitter, small group, likely headed up by Marc S. or Marc Santos, formerly of Equinox Fitness (A luxury gym I've attended that has probably the least diverse staff and membership base I've ever seen company wide. Not surprising given the Equinox "Commit to Something" ad campaign from 2016), and current fitness coach. Sadly many people, like Marc and company, use Yelp to put themselves in a position of some sort of "power" to break up their everyday existence by dragging down successful establishments. Which is sad and really too bad they feel the need to detour people who may be wanting to join a great gym, like Forma, to better their lives and finally take that difficult first step in their health journey. So shame on you Mr. Santos. As someone working in the fitness vertical, you of all people should understand that. If you are going to run a company called Uplift Strength, maybe actually try uplifting and encouraging folks, who need more than just a tax write off, to frequent awesome facilities like Forma. To wrap this review up. If you you are looking for a fantastic place to work out with an awesome and friendly membership base. Or a staff willing to bend over backwards for their members and help whenever needed or asked. This is YOUR gym and I hope to meet you in there someday and strike up a conversation. And to Marc Santos, why don't you put your negative attitude aside, ask for a free pass from the front desk sometime and hell, I'll work out with you so you can ACTUALLY experience this gym and retract your terribly unjust review. When I first saw Christian, i'm a bit afraid, 'cause it's my first time to the united states, and my first gym here. He is being helpful and understanding to my personal conditions. Holding gym membership in Shanghai and Taipei, i am a bit fearful handling gym staff. However, Christian as well as his manager, Fabricio, is quite friendly. Even though I have a free gym in my company, but I'm deeply in love with this place, right position, right amenities. I absolutely love this gym! It has a lot of equipment and group exercise classes that help keep you motivated. They have a outdoor turf area, which is something I have never seen at any other gym. I love using the turf area because you can do so many other exercises outside especially on a nice day! This gym also has a SAUNA AND STEAM ROOM. How great is that?! The locker rooms and newly renovated so they are extremely nice and give you that spa feeling. Forma Gym has a a cleaning crew that ensures that the gym is always clean and fully stocked. This gym rocks. Signing up with Maksym for a reboot of my workout routine was one of the best decisions I ever made. In addition to running me through great lifts/sets, he helped me pinpoint gaps in my flexibility and introduced creative movements to address them. He's also very good at matching a routine to your personality. I'm shocked to see the "racial profiling" accusations here... I've been a member here through Club One, Active Sport, and now Forma. You can really tell that the new Forma management cares about making this place better. There's new floors, better equipment and talk of even more changes. The fitness instructors and trainers are top notch. (Hats off to David, Susan, Leay and Michelle!!) I've done personal training and take a lot of fitness and dance classes. I loved this gym before the Coronavirus hit and forced it to close. I've been charged $100 for the month of March, April, and May. Why are you still charging customers that aren't able to go to the gym? I do not want to do your video workouts online - that is not what I paid for! Do the right thing Forma and freeze your customers accounts! Throughout this shutdown there has been zero updates from you guys. The only way you'll get my respect back is if you reimburse me the $300! If not, I'm outta here! MAXSYM MOVCHAN is the Best pesonal trainer ever! I started training with him before a trip to Kauai. You know... Bathing suits & sun dresses; What a positive difference it made. His training sessions are fun & creative and many times are outside on the lawn. His workouts include drills that I would never even dream of but are clearly designed to get your mind off how hard your working. He is phenomenal and I simply can't say enough. First, I showed up to the gym around 11 am with my postcard mailer in hand and the girl at the desk told me no one was there who could meet with me or even show me around. I asked her how long the wait would be. She said they were having a meeting and she had no idea what to expect, but probably an hour or two. WHAT- who meets for that long without informing the front desk, without a procedure to get potential client info to call them back, etc.. She said check back in, so I ran errands and came back. Luckily a guy was there when I came the 2nd time or would have walked out without trying again. The sales rep who greeted me this time was kind, but very uninformed about the kids care. Having kids, this is a problem. Kids Care- MOST of the minus stars are due to a complete disappoint in this area. (As a point of reference, I worked at a gym kids care in my teens/twenties and understand exactly what goes into it, who works those jobs, etc.. Even so, this was beyond sub-par.) On my first visit (when I was not helped) I watched in the window to see what was happening in the kids room. I have very young children, so wanted to observe what kind of interaction was going on (positive, negative, etc.) Sadly, the answer was that there was NO interaction going on. Two female workers were sitting at the desk, facing out to the gym, with backs to the kids, and did not move from the position as I sat on a chair and observed. They never once checked on, played with, or interacted with the children, who were watching TV and eating snacks instead of playing. I walked in and asked for paperwork to read about their policies, open times, etc.. (FYI Their open hours in their packet DO NOT MATCH what the sales rep will tell you about their open hours. someone needs to figure out which is correct, make changes, and stay consistent about child care hours). When I came back after errands and had my little meeting, I expressed my concern about child care, since I cant get a gym membership if there isnt adequate facilities for my children (which is the reason I have fallen out of the workout game and am looking to start up again). The rep was completely spit balling the childcare issue and talked more about how the gym wanted to move more toward a family friendly atmosphere with kids outdoor activities like, get this, WORKING OUT. I had told him my kids were 1 & 4. 1 & 4 year old do NOT work out. I expressed my concern that the play are was small (go to some other gyms and you will see fantastic and large climbing structures, open play space, etc.) I told him my kids had allergies and he said it wasnt a problem bc there is no eating in the kids zone. Not only does the kids zone SAY you can bring labeled food, but kids were eating in there BOTH times I went in. PLEASE LEARN/KNOW YOUR OWN POLICIES BEFORE MEETING WITH PROSPECTIVE CLIENTS! I then expressed to him my concern about how both the first, and this time, the women at the desk were sitting at the desk, looking at the computer and NOT playing with the kids. He then marched me in there and TOLD them my concern, to their face, with me present. I found this to be beyond unprofessional, and then set up an uncomfortable vibe both then and when I tried it out (see below). By the way, the response of the child care-worker when comforted by him as "Yea, the kids just do whatever they want, I dont dictate it, so if they want to play they play, if they want to watch a movie they just watch a move." This seriously is just getting worse and worse. I did like how they were improving the facilities (the women restroom and sauna area is super old and one of the last things to be redone, but they look like they will be working on it soon). The outdoor area and outdoor pool were great, patio looked like a nice relaxing spot, etc. Massage rooms were also dated, but they had a good special for new clients and child care is open during massage. (Again a contradiction though bc the masseuse told me it was free during a massage and the rep said it was not. Please get on the same page regarding this as well). I signed up for my free trial. When I show up on the agreed start date, the girl at the counter cant find me, then says my trial is expired. She has to find someone to go ask bc the rep wasnt there. Then she doesnt know how I register my kids for the care center, has to leave again and go ask. Nothing really gets fixed, but I am told I am "OK for today" and then fill out the tiniest form that give permission to leave my kids. My daughter is apprehensive bout being left there and wants to leave. I go into the room with my kids, after asking how they generally do dropping off and getting no offer for help. I am sitting on the floor with my kids trying to convince them its FUN even though it is clearly not. Works see me struggling, but walk by without helping. I pack up my kids and leave, never to return. I never even stepped foot in the gym, never got a follow up call to see how my trial went. read more

I didn't want to sign up at the beginning in fear of the membership fee. After digging around the city, and getting a tour of the gym, I found it to be the best gym in the city. I work out regularly, and found the DB rack full and in good shape. Enough benches for people, 2 sets of every weight and high ceilings is a plus. Trainers are knowledgeable and reliable. Nice amount of plates and bars so there's always a spot to work out in. Backyard workout area is great for the summer and the occasional ego boost. Cardio area has some machines that are down, but there are plenty of available machines that made me forget about the broken ones. Towel and toiletry items available in the lockers are a sweet bonus. A con would be the sauna and steam room are very small and are not renovated like the rest of the gym. It would be awesome to have this chain expand to Monterey County. I'm leaving the gym because I'm relocating, and I'm sad to let this go. read more

I was here for the 14 day trial. I used it one time and never went back. I didn't like the gym it's very tight and feels like you have no breathing space. For the price they charge I would expect some kinda widows to be able to see outside. I got an extremely warehouse feeling from this location. Not ideal for me and I'm sure many others. read more

I have been coming here for over 10 years now, the owners have changed a couple times over the years but is was usually same old thing. The latest Owner has done a really good job hiring the right staff. Farro the Manager understands relationships and customer service. I always say, you get what you pay for..... and in this case, I'm paying for great exercise equipment, great customer service and much needed amenities-like the outdoor pool, sauna, steam and cold eucalyptus towels! At my recent gym, where I was paying a much smaller monthly fee, I didn't get any of this! Oh wait, free childcare at Forma, too. The minute you walk in, you notice the difference from other gyms. I feel like Forma is more of a "fitness and health" center, rather than an open space with treadmill dropped in the middle. You get the sense from the staff that they really care, whether it be about your fitness goals, or simple saying good morning with a sincere smile. We're loosing that human connections with individuals, it's nice to know folks there are different. The young man who signed my up, Christian, phenomenal sales rep. Even after I had already signed up, he remembered some of my physical concerns and referred me to a few classes that could help me (the Pilates instructor). I have been a member of this gym for a few years now. I started my membership at this gym before it was changed to Forma Gym. It used to be Club One then Active Sports... man do I miss those day! I used to love this gym. It seems that when the ownership changed so did the atmosphere and vibes of the gym. The gym's population, which used to be half old people and half decently young, good looking people, is now entirely old people!! I mean I don't mind old people but I don't really trust granny Benson to spot my 315 pound bench. Also, they have raised the price of the membership to an outrageous amount, something over 100 dollars, for the exact same gym. I might have to stop my membership altogether because I cannot afford that. But the worst aspect of this newly organized gym is probably the bad vibes I get from the snobby staff. Some of them are nice but the majority of them are rude and ill-behaved. They give off a vibe that they are entitled to things which is even strange to say because they are the STAFF of the gym. Their job is to check me and get me towels when I'm sweating my ass off! Not to make me feel uncomfortable and be flat out mean. The fact that they get involved in a member's life in a negative way is RIDICULOUS when all they need to do is smile and wave. Anyways sorry for the ranting, I don't usually do that, but this has been something I really needed to get out. Sadly, a place I used to love just isn't the same anymore. I think it might be time for Forma Gym and I to go our separate ways. This is definitely a hard, but necessary breakup. read more

Since my earlier review it had become apparent the new owners are seeking to attract a younger crowd, Several senior oriented fitness classes have been eliminated and the social events clearly aimed towards appealing to a 20s and 30s clientel. It also appears that membership fees are being dramatically increased. While the new tile in the locker rooms and front entrance is a nice touch, this middle class bedroom community is not an area which is well suited for attracting a wealthy singles luxury oriented client base. There are several nearby competitive clubs like the new CIty Sports which are looking like a better value. And a number of 50+ year old members have voiced an interest in finding a new club. read more

I still have a year left on my 24 hour fitness membership but after my friend gave me a pass to here, I tried it out and have gone almost every day since. The swimming pool here is great and when I go it usually has at least one lane available. The outdoor hot tub is spacious and never crowded. There's also an indoor hot tub but I never use it. There's plenty of good machines here as well. I especially like their two matrix multi use cable machines. There is rarely any wait to use the free weights, bench press etc., i think in the last 3 months I've only had to wait once to use the incline or decline bench press. There is a great outdoor cross fit area available when you want to change up your routine. Most of the people there are friendly and seem to spend more time actually working out rather than checking themselves out in the mirror. Only downside is there always seems to be hella naked old guys just hanging out in the locker room. I saw one fat old guy just sitting there reading a newspaper letting it all hang out. I was not a fan of this place. The machines don't even face the TV's. The membership guy acted like he was better than everyone else and his prices were way higher than anyone else around. Planet Fitness is going to absolutely demolish these guys if they don't fix their customer service and/or prices quick. I used to be a member in this club when it was Club One years ago. Since then I have been a member in different club however this is closest to home. When my daughter and I came over to become members they refused membership for her since she is about 11. Don't mind that she is nationally ranked tennis player and one of the top in NorCal and we were looking for facility closer to home for her strength and flexibility training. You can imagine that even when she will turn 13 I will avoid this club. The reason she was not allowed is because quote from the front desk person "they don't have liability form for anyone below 13" I offered to sign liability waiver as father, he refused. He said that it is huge liability to bring a child below 13 to the club. I am wondering if I bring 13 years old and something happen will liability be different? No common sense either from the attendant or club in general. They said that the only thing they can do it put her in a day care. :) What? So if you have children, even if they are athletes don't bother. If you want your kids exercise with you and they are not 13 don't bother either. Look for others. BTW club did not change much from the Club One years so not sure why they are not interested in new and future members. There are quite a few choices out there. Clean, modern and not too busy. This is a good gym if you are looking for something better than just a regular gym. The equipments are pretty clean and new. read more
