I've only been once and there's a whole lot to like about this place. Even tho there are a few aspects that could have been better on this one visit. Atmosphere: Highly Interesting and open vibe. Lots of options for seating and quite comfortable. Service: we arrived shortly after opening and it appeared there was only one person working. He seemed uninterested in having us there. And did not tend to details like providing silverware or following up after food was delivered to see if all was ok (both are basic restaurant staff behaviors). Menu: A variety of cool sounding vegan options. Super appreciative that it's all vegan! Would be even more impressive with a wider variety of choices. Food: The burger I ordered had excellent texture and deep robust savory flavors. A truly excellent burger with pickles, onlon, a small bit of lettuce and some sauce. Would have liked it even more if it was less salty though, the salt was a bit overpowering. Pie and ice cream for dessert, which was a real treat! So glad this is offered here! The crust was superb and the filling was nice, real berries and good flavor, only caveat is that is was a bit overly sweet which took away from the fruitiness. The vanilla ice cream was excellent. Will definitely return and try some of the other interesting sounding options. read more

Updating my review now that Dinger's is here. I've been here twice in the last two to three weeks and the food is way faster. I went in tonight and got too tipsy on two Rum Runners. The drinks are poured well needless to say. I also had the most delicious vegan Caesar salad with vegan friend chicken. It was served by a super friendly person in the kitchen who sat down to talk to me when they brought it out, and honestly it was unexpected, but I loved this level of service. They were awesome and made the experience for me tonight. Whomever you are, never change. The bartenders were great and super attentive as usual. Shoutout to the curly-haired person who served me a glass of water at the bar when I hadn't been planning to sit there and was having a bad day. I sat down and enjoyed everything after that. And shoutout to the long, dark-haired person who made me the original rum runner from my last review and my second one tonight. I'll get your name next time. I've only had good experiences at Fortune! Even came here during Halloween last year and had the most fun for free.99 when I had planned to pay a $25 cover to get into somewhere else. I never made it to the second location because I was dancing so much and even had my own personal private booth in the back with my friend. Stopped by after work and the decor on the inside is great. The lobby of the hotel is extremely nice as well. I got the rum runner and another drink (forgot the name) but both were good! Plant based papi's food is excellent as well. I couldn't even tell the burger was not real meat. The DJ was also playing really good music too. A mix of throwbacks and recents. We have love visiting Fortune in the past. However, the recent experience did not exceed the standard of Fortune. We booked a VIP table and came in around 10:30pm to enjoy the music together. The staff were extremely rude when we first came in. No one showed us to the table nor check in with us. We didn't mind it until 1 hr 30 mins later, our group were forced to leave the premises. We were extremely confused by the staff action and rude demeanor. We asked them what was the reason but they failed to provide a specific reason. Also, one of our friend was yelled at by the bouncer "you need to calm down" when we asked where are other friends were. With the amount we paid, we expected VIP service by staff and the hostess. We gave them another chance by messaging the hostess but we didn't receive a proper apology. DO BETTER FORTUNE. Extremely disappointed by the recent experience! Not a bad spot overall but has some issues. Drinks are alright and are priced as expected for a downtown bar. Line isn't too bad if you show up before 10:30-11:00, after that it can get pretty rough (long wait times, bouncers letting people who don't wait in line through for extra money $$$, usual stuff). Once you're inside, you'll be greeted by a cool looking atmosphere in the front area. The back however can be a bit of a madhouse. The place is popular and has good DJ's, so the dance floor and bar area can get CROWDED. To the point where it is very difficult to respect other's personal space and get where you want to go (The long line later at night is probably an attempt to negate this). The main thing that really knocked this place down a few pegs for me was sound. As mentioned above, the DJ's are good and play a good selection of tracks that people enjoy. But the system is cranked up waaaaay too much, to the point where the sound does not sound balanced or very good. The high end of the speakers will legitimately cause pain in your ears; myself and several friends had pretty bad ringing for several hours after leaving. Main recommendation here would be to invest in bigger/better speakers or turn down those trim knobs a bit. Outside of this would be a 4 star experience, if you're into their vibe. read more

The drinks here are pretty good! The music is also good to dance to. They have tables, couches and a photo booth. They do require vaccine proof, but an image works. To order drinks does take a bit, the bartenders are busy, but they are friendly. The food appears to be all vegan. Not safe for women! DO NOT GO HERE. I was roofied, grabbed, stolen from (twice) and have been verbally threatened all during different experiences there. I had a bouncer/security make me pay him a bunch of money I didn't owe him when I was roofied at their bar and nobody stopped him. Two of my friends, and myself have all separately been roofied there and it seems they have done nothing to help this issue. They make you leave your drink outside of the bathroom which is just asking for something bad to happen. I also emailed them after being roofied to let them know and the responses were off... It used to be my favorite bar, but the past 6 months its become a pretty unsafe place to go out at. read more

This is the worst place in all of downtown Portland. They hire bunk security who do not know how to properly examine IDs. We were not let in simply because one of the bouncers (big ears, younger, let's girls touch him inappropriately in exchange for being let in without checking their IDs) said he thought my girlfriend's out of state ID photo looked "photoshopped" and that's just his "opinion." He examined it thoroughly with his black light and even asked her about the identifying information which she got correct because it was a legit ID and still would not let us in. Fellow bouncers were useless too and unqualified. Never go here if you're from out of state. They are not properly trained or informed. They're also homophobic. read more

This place is very cute and I love that their menu is all vegan! It definitely hits the spot if you're craving this kind of food. I will say for my negatives is that the drinks and food are pretty pricey but also that's standard these days and they are offering something special by being vegan. The other negative I have is that it's very dark inside and that is a little funny if you're drying to have dinner with people. The bar is more appropriately lit I will say. Last year I went here and had the best sandwich of my life it was a Nashville hot sandwich with a fried portobello mushroom. I was excited to have it again but it turns out their menu was revised slightly but now I know to check the menu for seasonal changes/revisions in the future. Overall a really nice place and beautiful interior with yummy food. I would say it could use more staff for sure. I've heard the weekends are more lovely and exciting there. read more

This place is a joke. Went there around 10:30 on a Friday night 05/12 to be exact. Place was no where near capacity. Maybe a 1/4 filled. Staff was not responsive to requests for help, and the bar does not have enough people to manage the crowds they allow in. I personally was touched multiple times without invitation or consent, even after clearly voicing "I do not want to be touched by you." Gave up and went home. We'd eaten here several times before when Plant-Based Papi was in charge of the food, and it was absolutely amazing. This time it was anything but. This is one of the worst meals we've ever had in Portland. We ordered two burgers, a salad, and mozzarella sticks. Sadly, our food was bland and cold. The buns were stale and the burgers flavorless and unseasoned. The croutons on the Caesar salad were the size of ping pong balls while the lemons that garnished the salad were cut so paper-thin that you couldn't even squeeze them. The fries were at the other end of the spectrum from the rest of the meal. They were so salty that they were inedible, and I have high salt tolerance. Everything was so bad. The server just threw our plates down on the other side of the table from where we sitting without a word. We couldn't even reach the plates and had to get up and walk to the other side of the table to pick up our food. He only provided one set of utensils and one napkin. The bartenders were also very standoffish and cold. They had a jazz band in on the one of the two nights they don't have a DJ spinning house music. We checked the schedule before we left to make sure they didn't have music (it was a Wednesday night) because we Just wanted a quiet meal. Phenomenal bar in Portland. Went here for NYE and everything was amazing from the service, hospitality, cleanliness, and vibe. The DJ played great music and the drinks were great! I took my partner here for his birthday dinner ! He is vegan and this place went above and beyond our expectations. The food is absolutely incredible. The Mac n cheese trio is delicious! We also had the chickun sandwich and Burger! The service was excellent and everyone behind the bar was so attentive to our needs! We were so pleased with our experience here. We are from Seattle and Portland really exceeded our expectations with this establishment. Better than any vegan restaurant I've been to in Seattle. The cocktails were also incredibly delicious and I left this restaurant feeling extremely happy to have spent my money here. An amazing vegan restaurant. My dinner partner and I both had the Bakon Jam and Gruyère burger (with onion rings inside!) and fries. Super tasty. We also ordered the "pork" rinds which have the same airy/crunchy texture as the meat-based variety, sprinkled with chili powder and served with lime wedges and hot sauce. Not 5 stars because the dining area was very cold (we ate with jackets zipped up) and they said the huge fireplace wasn't working. Honestly wish I could give 0 stars. It was the night of my 21st birthday, I was out with my mother and her friends (who are late 30's and early 40's) + a group of my 21 year old friends. It was 12:30 and I am legally 21. For some reason this specific club doesn't allow people who turn 21 the night of, it has to be a full 24 hours. My mom had money ready, even handed it to the bouncer. While holding the money, the bouncer asked his manager if he could let us in by text. And of course, the manager said no. Great start to a birthday BTW. I was so over waiting outside in the cold for 10 min. I snatched the money out his hands and said "you just lost a whole lot of business, never coming here again". Felt like the scene from "Pretty Woman" to be honest. Ended up going across the street to FUSE and they let my whole group in for FREE. P.S. I love fortune for a night out, but most of the times I've been there for dine-in (6 or so separate occasions) they have had a limited menu. Meaning most of the items on the menu for food were not available. I think it would be best if they had a specific menu every night that featured only what they had. Because the times when I have gone up to order, my party and I already knew what we wanted but then we were told about the limited menu. If this is due to the nationwide shortages of ingredients, please disregard this semi-negative review. The food I have had there is delicious though! Especially the tacos! I came her for food after my wedding ceremony last night. I came in with my service dog and quickly after the bouncer checked my ID was approached by another person saying no dogs are allowed once I walked in. I said is not a pet dog by a service dog, and made sure I had his vest on to advertise this as well. Not required but makes it easier and reduces the amount of people who pet him inside. Told them they can't kick me out and please call the police about my service dog. Was told it was ok after they checked in but was refused service for food by being ignored at the bar for me and my partner. Was the first and the last time I will go. The decor and vibe was great! Friendly staff and good drinks. The food was not great. We got the street tacos and while they had good flavor they were extremely spicy making the whole experience miserable. My partner got the double double which was lacking in flavor and extremely messy. Overall, would recommend other vegan places nearby before returning. read more

Fortune is great and now that they've expanded, it's even better! It's so much more spacious and they offer bottle service now. Their photo booth was also upgraded and the photos are such good quality now!!! For only $3.99, you can text the image to all yo friends. It's in a good location for a drink post-Roseland show or a good start to a Saturday night if you arrive before cover starts (usually before 10pm depending on the crowd). Their bathrooms are also larger now too which is a plus for people with small bladders (like myself). The music is great and the owner usually spins the current hip-hop bangers for your listening and dancing pleasure. Overall, it's a good night and Voodoo or Sizzle Pie is just a short walk away. read more

We waited for a half hour (which granted, doesn't seem to be that long for this place) but the bouncer let 6 of his friends in ahead of us and wanted a $20 cover charge to get in after midnight (which we would've been in before if he hadn't let his friends in.)
