After a really long day of work, I was in need of something close to my hotel. Score for Bullard Tavern. Lucky I had Gregg M with me to help me eat! We both started with drinks: Me: Gimme three steps. It definitely hit the spot after a long day. Onto food - we started with the Tavern Salad ($16). It hit all the notes. Greens and radishes for crunch, apples to add sweetness and blue cheese crumbles for salt. A great start to a wonderful meal. Next: Grilled albacore ($41) and roasted cauliflower ($$28). The albacore tasted good and it had with it grilled summer squash, heirloom tomato & corn, charred eggplant puree, chile oil vinaigrette. Really loved the eggplant in some ways more than the tuna. Score another for PNW freshness! The cauliflower - spicy due to the chipotle glazed with brightness from the pickled corn. Along with some grilled oyster mushrooms and coconut corn puree with scallions -it was probably my favorite dish. Had I not been so full, I might have told Gregg M we needed to order another one! The sauces were great too, one with a green chili kick and one marionberry with a sweet but tangy taste. Also tried the Cesar salad, fries, and smash burger. Everything really tasty and cooked well. The staff I felt were top of the game, very dialed and connected to what the patrons need at any given time. I will absolutely make time to come back again. It's a relaxing space - well-designed, with spacious half-moon booths in a room with floor-to-ceiling windows and soothing folksy blues on the sound system. I had the Bullard Breakfast and went the virtuous route with the avocado option. Beautifully presented, served with a trio of condiments: butter, jam, and ketchup. The potatoes were delicious. One star off for the cold, rock-hard toast. One surprise on the way out: a "Kitchen Appreciation Fee" of 3% appeared on the itemized receipt, but not on the menu, the website, or any visible signage. Oh wow! Stopped in Portland during our 2 week roadtrip through the PNW for dinner with my sister in law - we decided in Bullas as it was close to our hotel and had an interesting menu. Wow we were in for a surprise! The waiter was very friendly and efficient, and kept the service moving. We never waited too long for anything either, whether it be cocktails, water fills, the bill. I came here alone for Thanksgiving - and I don't know if it was because I was alone, but the staff were so sweet and attentive and very kind. The drinks were 10/10 I got a pickle drink then another whiskey forward drink, which the proceeds went to charity - which is just such a classy move by the restaurant, This place was also extremely queer friendly - which is probably why it felt so warm and inviting. Visited Bullard Tavern again after a several year gap. The dinner we had was so delicious, I'm still thinking about it! This time we sat in the dining area with a view of the kitchen, which for a foodie like me is always fun. The action and fast pace in which they work to create so many incredible dishes is amazing. We started with cocktails and shared a roasted beet salad that was served over peppery arugula, to balance the sweetness of the beets, with whipped goat cheese, candied cashews (a deviation for the more common candied pecans) and Cara Cara seeds. the maple bourbon vinaigrette fought it all together - crisp, sweet, savory with texture - the perfect salad. Along with a bottle of red, we each enjoyed our own main dish. My friend had the salmon and absolutely loved it. Craving meat, I ordered the pork chop when my first choice, the steak, was sold out. No worries, it ended up being the right choice! Cooked to perfection, the smoke added a distinct flavor element without overpowering. The sides of roasted potatoes and asparagus, the perfect accompaniment. For desert, we opted for espresso martinis to cap off a perfect meal. Ambiance is dark and cozy with plenty of bar seats if that's your thing. I had completely forgotten about Bullard so I was thrilled when my friend suggested it. Oysters brought us to this place and were on point--they were so good that I didn't even get a chance to take a picture. Frankly, everything we ordered was delicious and the carrots stole the show. It had a nice glaze with a little heat and I appreciated the pairing with pumpkin seeds to provide the crunch that you don't get in the same way from the cooked carrot. Its located in the bottom floor of a hotel but had it own unique vibe and ambiance. I also appreciated the host holding onto my luggage since I was going to the airport after dinner. I ordered Coho Salmon entree with an additional side of the Grilled Carrots. Both dishes were excellent. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the carrots had a smoky, sweet, spicy taste. Went over there last night as we couldn't get reservation on another place and it did not disappoint. Menu is not huge, but possibly Bullard has the most underrated steaks in Portland. It's quite limited with 3 to choose from but they do make those well. I took pork chops and that was good as well. Restaurant is the ground floor of woodlark hotel and so for dinner do a reservation. Met a friend for her birthday and the hostess was so gracious and helped me with placing flowers. The ambiance was casual and fun for what we were looking for. I'm told all of the seafood here is exquisite, but salmon has my love for this visits appetizer. I want to come again to try their Dungeness Deviled Eggs. So good, I had it twice! Bullard Tavern is conveniently located inside of the Woodlark Hotel. The restaurant has a dark and moody aesthetic accompanied by low lighting. I sat at the bar and Jack was my bartender both times. He was great! Very attentive and helpful! Both nights I went during Happy Hour. They offer happy hour between 3-6 P.M. The first night I went, I had the smoked chicken wings, a margarita, and the Bullard fries off of the happy hour menu. The smoked chicken wings were plentiful, which came with 3 big wings. These wings were very messy and sticky accompanied by a sweet and spicy flavor. They had a good flavor, but I wouldn't get them again due to the messiness of them. The fries on the happy hour menu were huge as well. The fries came in a big bowl, which is plenty to either share or eat by yourself, if you're really hungry. The next day, I ordered a spicy margarita and the San Antonio smoked half chicken. My margarita was delicious, but main dish was outstanding. This dish is perfectly made with well-balanced and bold flavors. It's truly something magical (my mouth is watering thinking about this dish). Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Bullard Tavern. From the crafty cocktails to the unique food selections, I had a great experience. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Bullard Tavern with my wife for lunch on a wet January weekday. While the street parking wasn't bad when we got there, there are plenty of paid parking lots nearby for those who don't want to be bothered by the construction that's been happening on the streets around the area. From the moment we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by friendly staff and were seated quickly even though we didn't have a reservation. The ambiance was great and the waitress was extremely helpful in helping us pick out the perfect menu items. The only downside was that the seats were a little too close to each other, but hey, we were literally arm's length from other people eating, so it was still quite enjoyable. For drinks, my wife had the $13 Bullard Mezcal Margarita, which was strong but nice. I had the $15 smoked chicken lettuce cups butter lettuce, chipotle crema, apple, celery, peanuts. This is found in the snacks and small plates menu. This was refreshing and delicious if you want to have a light meal or on a diet. Wife had $18 fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese, pepper jelly, shredded lettuce, brioche bun and fries form the plates section of the menu If you're looking to experience Bullard Tavern, I would recommend going on a weekday since the area can become quite crowded on the weekends and in the evenings. Such a delightful experience! My friend and I were visiting from out of state and this restaurant blew us away. The steak is grass-fed sourced and the ingredients were of the highest quality. The oysters were an impulse buy and they were true to their PNW roots - small but packed with savor. I am 90% certain the pie came from Lauretta Jean's which I was super happy about because that was the one spot I didn't get to hit up this time in PDX. No words other than it was so good. The dollop of whipped cream cut through the dark and nutty of the bourbon pecan filling - I could have licked the plate clean.
