We stopped by for dim sum on a Saturday and it was pretty quiet when we arrived, with lots of open tables. The food came out quickly, which was a nice plus, but it's worth noting that they don't offer any weekend dim sum specials. The tea was pretty weak and lacked flavour, especially considering it's $2.50 per person, which is more expensive than many nearby dim sum restaurants. We ordered 3 dishes. One of the more unique dishes we tried was the deep-fried pumpkin and sweet potato. It seemed like an uncommon order because several staff members came over to look at it as it was served. The portion was huge for a dim sum dish, with thick slices of pumpkin and sweet potato. Unfortunately, the batter was also thick, which made the dish feel a bit heavy. The fried glutinous dumpling was really good. The wrapper wasn't overly thick, and the filling-to-dough ratio was well balanced. The beef balls were enjoyable, but nothing to particularly write about. Overall, the food was pretty good, and the restaurant was bright and clean, but the value wasn't there. With no weekend specials and the extra tea charge, our bill came to about $30 for just three dishes between the two of us. At most other dim sum spots, that same amount usually gets us a much larger meal. As it got closer to noon, the restaurant started filling up quickly, so it seems like they're more popular for their lunch menu than for dim sum. I probably wouldn't come back for dim sum since there are other places nearby with comparable food at much better prices, but I'd still be open to returning to try their lunch menu! read more

Dim Sum food hot and fresh. Service was good and the dining room looked ok. Prices aren't bad, $5.50 per before 11 am. A little more cleaning would be nice. Food was generally tasteful except the Shumai which had an odd taste. It was also too fatty. A positive would be that it was big in size. I came to Fortune Villa 聚福樓 for dim sum and dinner before, and I really enjoyed the food here, and service from the manager, Annie! It is usually very crowded, be sure to come earlier for a table in the morning! All the dim sums were delicious. I loved the rice noodle rolls, salted egg lava bun, and the lobster e-fu noodles. We came here also during CNY where they were selling delicious fried sesame balls- nice and crispy, and really addictive lol. We also tried their CNY poon choi, and really enjoyed it at home. It was perfect for 5 people; it had 5 servings of everything with toppings like abalone, chicken, duck, pig's feet, shrimp, sea cucumber, and all sorts of veggies. It also came with soup, crispy pig's skin, and 5 steamed glutinous rice wrapped with lotus leaves on the side. Just have to return the pot after to get $20 deposit back. Dinner was especially special for my grandpa's birthday as well. I come here often for dim sum on the weekends. The restaurant is usually really packed during dim sum peak hours. Service is good, staff are usually pretty attentive, but sometimes it gets too busy, and they forget. The dim sum prices are your typical prices, and quality is about the same as other restaurants. Some tables are really close to each other, so when it gets busy, you're sitting pretty close to the people beside you. Lots of parking outside in the plaza. Their BBQ selection and take out selection is good. My last visit, I went with their bbq selection. Duck + bbq pork and duck + roasted pork. My total was $33.90 for both dishes. The roasted pork was crunchy, and the rest of the meats were flavourful. The meat to rice ratio was OK. Food itself is amazing with large portions and great flavours. The pork dumplings were massive, the deep fried squid was moist, and the desserts were fabulous. What a hidden gem (for me at least)! I didn't know there was a dim sum restaurant in this area and was so surprised by the quality and taste of the food here. It's a smaller restaurant with tentative servers. I went around mooncake festival time so all the servers were trying really hard to sell us boxes of mooncakes. The restaurant is also filled with lots of regulars probably from the surrounding homes. The food was great and so tasty! Some of the things we got here: Bitter melon chicken noodle 4/5 - Nice and saucey with great taste Liver congee 4/5 - I don't usually eat liver but the congee was great and had the perfect consistency. The congee came with a lot of liver pieces, and I mean, A LOT. Chicken feet 5/5 - A classic that is always so good. Delicious red sauce. Har Gow 5/5 - Nice and plump. Shrimp were bouncy and tasty. Coconut bunny dessert 5/5 - This was super cute and came with four coconut jellies shaped in a bunny. It was super jiggly and so fun to eat! What a great find with this restaurant. I haven't been here for their dim sum or dinner but I've been getting their bbq pork rice a couple of time for take out. The bbq pork tastes better than the other restaurants in the area and the price is decent $8.25+taxes. They only take debit/credit if it's over $20 otherwise there's a service charge so it's better if you pay with cash. I liked this place :) and would definitely recommend others to try at least once for special occasions or more regularly if you have the extra money to splurge . It is a tad pricier than regular Chinese restaurants . I would return for following reasons : the atmosphere was good ; very clean and modern looking ; servers were super friendly and attentive . We ordered take out from this place last night, our first time trying it since opening. It tastes pretty good (at least much better than the previous owner) and it comes with quite generous portion on a pricey end, so overall I think it's still worth it! We had the 2 pick-your-own dishes (with 2 fixed dishes) set meal for $67, our family of 4 only able to eat 1/2 of the portion, can leave some for next day's lunch. Because of their grand opening, they have some daily specials. The bbq pork and duck looks fresh, people are lining up for that. Their chili oil hot sauce is really really good, I believe that's home made, wonder if they have it for sale. For a restaurant that is aiming to be a high end Chinese restaurant, the taste is pretty meh and is the same quality as that of lower end places, like Fancy Chinese Restaurant. However, their shrimp was bad in the fried shrimp wontons. My mom had 1, and realized it was bad. She figured it's just the one, but turns out the second one was bad too. We sent it back and requested it be cancelled. When we said that, the manager (60s man, balding) didn't even RESPOND to us. We thought he didn't hear us, so we said it again louder, then he acknowledged us. As a service staff, WHY doesn't he verbally respond? He wasn't handling dishes or talking with anyone else. The salted fried capelin fish... Oy. The batter was definitely fried but why was it soft and not crunchy? We were actually able to pinch the batter and it stayed that shape instead of breaking off. The siumai was bland and boring. No shrimp taste and no mushroom taste. It felt like a regular pork meatball. Their shrimp dumplings were disappointing. The wrap was so thick and opaque. At least it didn't stick to my teeth. I have had way better quality for much lower prices, even in Markham. Their congee was the only good dish. Lots of toppings, taste was fine, not too salty. Viscosity was okay... But I like thicker congees. A manager lady also got our order wrong. She inputted it wrong and we had to hunt down the balding manager to get it fixed. We came for early bird dimsum, in which the price for SML sizes were all $5.30, which is typically the price of a medium dish elsewhere. Their taste didn't even match the price point. Solid 3.5 stars! Came here for dinner on Friday. They currently have a Monday-Friday special - $30 for peking duck if you spend $20 or more there. We ordered: Peking duck - surprisingly good. The steamed wrappers were nice and super thin. Duck skin was nice and crispy. Duck was a bit on the fattier side but the meat was nice and tender, not dry at all. Can't beat the $30 price tag. Grouper with veggie dish - simple, cooked nicely as well. A tad oily so would ask for less oil next time on their dishes. Veggie dish - huge veggie dish for only $20. Came with a nice dessert soup at the end (white fungus and papaya) with a lychee chrysanthemum jello and an almond cashew cookie. We had so much leftovers! This review is based on 2 dinner experience. We first patronized on Father's Day for dinner. We were so impressed by the taste, portion and overall services that we returned for a regular dinner. What sticked in mind the most was the overall good value. Let's face it, dining out is expensive nowadays. It costs average of $15 per entree for even HK cafes. It costs a lot more at a nicer place. Fortune is no exception in term of pricing. But all the entrees we had over 2 dinners tasted delicious, nicely plated and generously portioned, to the tune that we consistently had 2 boxes of leftover to take home. Further, the cooking, favouring and plating of the food have a level of refinement that justify the higher price per entree. Services could be slow but not too bad. We came here for dinner on Father's Day and were seated quickly. We ordered one of the Father's Day combos for six and added a sweet and sour pork and seafood fried rice. I was surprised that rice and noodles wasn't included in the combo but overall there was shark fin soup, abalone and mushrooms, chicken, small order of suckling pig, sea bass, lobster and dessert. General vibe of this Chinese restaurant is fancier and you can see they want to position itself as a mid-range luxury Chinese restaurant. This is reflected in its pricing, decor and service, however lacking in the food department to match other restaurants of that caliber. It's also not an appropriate strategy for this location in a neighborhood plaza - most coming here would be looking for a casual meal close to home rather than a splurge, unlike the other Chinese restaurant offerings from this chain in Scarborough. On the few occasions I've been, the restaurant remained mostly empty. This is a nice addition to the Markham East area as there aren't many dim sum restaurants in close proximity that also serves bbq meat. Ample parking available. Dim sum menu is limited but has lots of dishes for stir fried and bbq meat, served after 11am. Nice ambiance and overall good food quality. Wow, what a nice restaurant in the middle of a bunch of other restaurants! Fortune Villa is a solid Chinese restaurant that offers more Cantonese style food. Their dim sum is quite good, with a variety of options from the staple dim sum items to specialty items (seafood congee, BBQ pork spareribs, and a variety of noodles). Their ha gow are amazing, with 3 good sized shrimp in each. Sui mai are also good in size. I don't know, but maybe everything seems bigger and fresher here than in CA, with much lower prices. Service is really good, especially for a Chinese restaurant as we felt personally attended to the entire time. I didn't my take pics of my food, but it was all delicious. Kids approved as well. So I went for a second time takeout half BBQ duck again today. What a rid off!!! There were so many pieces of duck necks and only 3 tightly pieces of duck breast and some missing pieces of duck leg. The chinese bbq and dim sum selection is small with some additional noodle and rice dishes that can be ordered for take out or sit in. Comparing to other dim sum places, the food has ok flavour and seasoning leaning a smidge salty but texture is lacking. Buns and rice rolls are not the usual chewiness. It was had a very gluey sticky mouth feel that did not leave a pleasant feeling after eating. Egg tarts custard was good but the flaky tart, while very flaky tasted of uncooked flour. Chinese bbq is good texture but not super fresh nor old. Good dishes included har gow (shrimp dumpling) and curry squid. Overall dishes ranged from small, medium large, x large, jumbo and special.
