Went here for Christmas lunch/dim sum with a group of 10 people -- 6 adults and 4 kids aged 4 to 10. And to be fair, the 7-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl ate just as much as the grown-ups! Since it was my treat, money was no object. We ordered 20 dishes to make sure no one would need to stop by McDonald's on the way home. When you think about it, that's only two dishes per person, which really isn't excessive at all. The food was fresh and piping hot. Service was a bit slow, but that was completely understandable -- it was Christmas Day and the restaurant was already packed by 11 a.m. All in all, it was a very satisfying lunch, even though I footed the bill. We came here for dim sum. We had previously tried dinner which was good quality though slightly smaller in quantity. Service was good and fairly speedy. There is early bird special on weekday mornings. We liked how a lot of the standard dim sum dishes came in sets of 4 (some places only do 3) like the siu mai and dumplings. Some stand out items: 1) Honey glaze beef short ribs - both crispy yet also tender with a sweet honey glaze. Can't go wrong with this. 2) Squid tentacles - large amount and the squid was still tender but well cooked with a nice crispiness on the ends. 3) Chinese dough stick wrapped in rice roll - really nice smooth rice roll with a crunchy Chinese dough stick inside topped with a bit of shredded pork floss. 4) The dumplings like chiu chow and vegetable ones were all fresh with delicious ingredients insides. The food is okay, not that great. However, what's atrocious is how the managers (those wearing suits) treat their staff. Twice I've witnessed managers loudly and rudely berate the staff in front of a restaurant full of customers. The first time the male manager yelled at the staff for moving chairs from one table to another so that the customers waiting for the table could sit down sooner. The second time, the female manager called the staff 死蠢 (brain dead, incredibly stupid), once again in a restaurant full of customers. read more

They got all your standard dim sum needs covered. For their price point and quality, it is extremely reasonable. Their set course meals are also very good. Their servers can use an attitude adjustment. I mean, why would two servers cuss with bad words in Cantonese right in front of the customers? We visited this restaurant in North York when they first opened and tried some of their dishes including the dim sum platter, pork with preserved egg congee, siu mai, har gow, crispy scallop rolls and crispy roll with taro and chicken. We absolutely enjoyed everything as they came hot and very tasty. The restaurant is spacious with a nice decor. It is often busy with families or groups enjoying a nice meal. Decent dim sum wouldn't say it was amazing but nothing much to complain about. Cost $65 tax and tip for two people and we took home enough for a third. Better dishes include the lotus leaf wrapped sticky rice with chicken, lots of stuff. The yellow spongy dessert rolls were also good. Beef balls and steamed pork/veggie dumplings were ok. Just not special. We also ordered the Thai fish cakes which were ok but not very Thai. They also have two dim sum combo specials but neither looked like good value to me and my wife. Restaurant was quite loud. Ya it's a dim sum resto, I know. But it was only 1/4 full at 2pm on a Saturday -- it was the staff who were the loudest, literally screaming at one another from across the restaurant and sometimes when standing 3 feet apart. Led by the "front of the house" manager, who was the loudest of all of them. I totally don't expect Chinese restos to maintain the level of decorum experienced at a western resto. But this level of noise, coming mostly from staff seems completely unnecessary and assuming they are trying to create a higher-end vibe, it seems at least a bit inappropriate. Really took away from my experience. Service was quick and bathrooms are clean, but it's only been a few months since the big Reno. read more

Went for the first time for an event a few months back and came back for a family friend gathering. Both times the place was packed. We ordered a lobster combo that included my favorite dish which is crispy fried pork with a side of jelly fish and seaweed salad. It left an impression on me during the first visit so we came back for it. We devoured it so I didn't get to take a photo. Everything was flavorful and good, and I also really liked the fish soup. Service was great both times. The first time was for a big party so in order to get through all the dishes they needed to divide it up into individual portions so there would be enough room. They were so fast I was essentially competing with them to take a photo with every dish that was brought on. This time they would periodically check to see how we're doing, and the food came fast. I came here once of dinner and once for dim sum. I find that dinner service was very good. The lady serving us that evening was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious; we ordered 8 dishes for the 5 of us to share, and we did not even make a dent hahaha... they portions were very big, and we took the rest of the food home. Highly recommend coming here for dinner :) Dim sum was just madness - it was very busy on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30pm, with lots of people standing at the front door. I actually don't like loud and crowded space; we couldn't even speak at the table with just the 4 of us. My voice was completely gone after that. Came to Joyous to have some Peking duck but unfortunately left the restaurant with a sour experience. We were pushed into ordering a combo that included a soup along with 3 other dishes. The Peking duck itself was good (duck had lots of flavour and was fresh) however the amount of wraps and side dishes included wasn't enough. The soup was quite bland, the pork dish was mostly bones, another chicken dish was served cold. The fried rice and veggie dishes were done well and was finished quickly. Towards the end of the meal we were told the combo price would only be given if we paid in cash which neither myself or anyone else in my group had so we ended up paying a fee to use our card (note they also charge a fee to use debit). We came to try early dim sum on a weekday. Nice renovated interior but small by comparison to the typical Chinese restaurant. There is a vip room off to the side. It was a bit chaotic at the front waiting area. No one really greeting or taking numbers for tables. Someone then came around and seated a bunch of groups quickly with the available tables. It got busy and the atmosphere is loud. Dim sum menu pretty standard. We ordered and waited 15 - 20 minutes for the items to arrive. The dim sum quality is really low quality compared to the typical dim sum restaurant. Some items needed more time in the steamer. The dim sum here is frozen heated up. The early dim sum price is only for regular items. We tried some of the specialty items on the dim sum menu like the abalone soup dumpling but it equally failed to impress. Service was average. A lot of plates chipped and broken. Based on my dim sum experience I don't feel compelled to return again to try anything else on the menu lunch or dinner. Came here for the promotional dim sum set! Food tasted yummy and way more than enough food for two people (we only managed to finish half between 2 people). I loved that it came out in a tower -- cute for photos and for saving space at our small table :) The set came with Har Gow, Crispy Pork and Chicken Roll, Pork Congee with Preserved Egg, Crispy Scallop Roll, and Assorted Dim Sum Pastries. We added an ordered come Crispy Chicken Cartilage on the side. Service was a bit chaotic despite having a reservation (we had a reso for 1pm on a Sunday for 2 people). Upon arriving, it was almost a full house, and easy to miss the hostess counter when entering. We were seated pretty quickly, though! Despite having a reso, we mistakenly got sat at separate tables because they didn't seem to check their reservations list. They opened yesterday on the 12th December, and today marks the second day. Still at their soft opening stage. Beautiful interior. The jumbo shrimp jar gwa was so tasty and fresh. The scallop dumpling with pumpkin was nice and unique. My dad loved the beef ball with bean curd, he said definitely made in house. The pan fried dace cake did not have a fishy taste. My favourite was as always the no.54 fried noodles with XO sauce, you can't get this particular clear chunky noodles in a lot of restaurants. Service was nice and friendly. There's not many to choose from, but this place manages to hold its own well against the neighbouring options in Scarborough, Markham, and Richmond Hill. The inside is spacious and nicely decorated, with lots of seating and tables available that are spaced out. Service is attentive and friendly for a dim sum place. There's an expansive dim sum menu available. Portions vary, with some dishes have generous portions and others being smaller. Overall, the steamed dishes were better value for money, the baked ones were small. Quality wise things were good to alright. All in all a good dim sum option if you're in North York. read more

We had dim sum and dinner a few times there. For services, I would give a 5 stars as every time the service was excellent! However for the value of food I would say not good. For one lunch, we ordered the lobsters set lunch and the lobster was so tiny we were shocked! And today we went for the dinner and we ordered the king crab 6 lbs set dinner. They told us the smallest would be 10 lbs ! Then why offered 6 lbs then? And we ended up with 10 Lbs! Yes it was our decision to take it but still why misleading the consumers? Also, they only accept cash and we asked so no taxes ? No, we still have to pay taxes! So what is the benefit of paying cash? They didn't want to comment..Seafood set menu is very competitive now so they should consider offer more options in terms of the sizes of the seafood. If you are a party of 4-6 .. you might have the luck to get a corresponding table size. But still, your chair will be back to back with your next table neighbour and someone ended up "locked" in the spot that can't come out. I reserved a table for 7:00pm, and was seated at 7:30pm. When paying the bill, I was told that if I paid with a bank card or credit card, there would be an additional 10% fee. If it's a business-related dinner, don't come here. The food is average, nothing special. read more

We have been here a few times and find the service absolutely horrible. We asked for tea several times and they kept delaying it. They force you to pay more tips. Tips should be based on service not inclusive of HST. If the government charged more sales tax, should businesses get more tips? It has nothing to do with the quality of service. Also, we paid by cash so we know it is likely they won't report it to CRA. We had originally paid them 13% tips on a $125 bill. We were a large party. It is likely they will pocket the HST as it cash. That means they were already pocketing 26%. They chased after us saying we didn't pay tips when we clearly did. Their math skills aren't that great. I showed them the math several times and that man wasn't getting it. They made a huge commotion in the lobby where everyone was staring at us. At the end, they let us leave after paying 16% tips for afternoon dim sum. Even when we paid, one the female staff yelled at the male staff to check the bill like they think we will stiff them. Absolutely horrible service. We have never been chased for tips. Actually, one time a waiter ran after us saying we paid too much. We have already heard in the past that they refuse to let a senior citizen leave as one of the family member didn't have enough cash. He had wanted to pay by cash instead of credit card as there is a 10% discount. He had cash in the car parked right outside the restaurant. They were treated like criminals and same with us today.
