I was recently referred to Michael Glorioso by one of my co-workers and I have NEVER had such a great hair experience. I've been a default client at a fancy SoHo salon for the last 2 years or so and although my stylist was talented, he was extremely inconsistent. I figured it was time for a change so I took a chance. I have very thick, unruly hair and finding a good stylist has been the bane of my existence! I was almost resolved to the fact that I would forever live with mediocre haircuts and have to rely on pony tails the rest of my life. Until I found Michael. This guy is the real deal. I've seen him twice now and I have never been happier with my cut as well as my color. I brought in lots of pictures so he could get an idea of what I was looking for and after chatting for 10 minutes or so, he turned me over to his assistant and we were off to the shampoo bowl. The wash and head massage were heavenly. I felt very well taken care of and attended to the entire time I was in the salon (a beautiful, clean and airy space that has recently been remodeled). By the time I got back to Michael's chair, he was ready to show me some of HIS ideas for my "new look". In just a few minutes, he had taken MY ideas and elaborated on them in ways I didn't know were possible! Michael has an uncanny instinct for individuals and their particular needs. His suggestions and visions were spot on and by the time he was finished, I felt like a new woman!! He knows what angles flatter, what technique to use for hard-to-cut hair and his color choices were perfect for my complexion. Two words for you: Michael Glorioso. He really listens to what you want, gives you exactly what you want, and does it with artistic precision and professionalism. And he's approachable, nice, and kind as well. I am a mid-brown haired curly girl with significant grey. I don't want to submit to a full dye job, as I've always hated that "thin grey line" that inevitably grows at the scalp, ruining the look of even the most expensive salon coloring. I had been to several colorists, who had all told me "you're gonna hate" going grey, and giving me more and more blond or auburn highlights until I was a washed out version of myself. I found Michael because I saw a woman with gorgeous hair in Whole Foods, and she she told me her colorist was Michael Glorioso of Foster Glorioso. When I met him, I was treated to his complete attention for as long as it took me to tell my history. He really listened. He nodded and immediately started to work with me on my quest to rock the grey, and even noticed my clothes palette [Calypso silver/dusky pinks] in incorporating a look for me. He suggested a warm glaze close to my natural brown with a swirl of rose in it. Months later, when I began to dislike the way the grey was clustering at the temple, he wove in a few pieces of champagne/beige highlights. Today, he suggested a slightly darker brown glaze that allows the grey to shine through. It looks g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s. This place is WONDERFUL. I came in with a promotional voucher that I bought off a man in Union Square. I was a bit hesitant about getting highlights at this place I had never heard of because of a bad first (and at the time only) experience at Oscar Blandi. I figured if Oscar Blandi couldn't do it, I couldn't try here. But then I went on yelp and looked at the reviews and learned about Hannah, one of the main stylists. She was said to be incredibly talented. So I called and booked an appointment with her. SHE WAS ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR. Firstly, she knew exactly what to do with my hair. More so than any hairstylist I have ever had in my life. The haircut was beautiful. I didn't want too much off, and she listened perfectly: cut off just enough to remove all the split ends and then lightened up my front layers a bit. THEN SHE COMPLETELY FIXED MY STRIPEY HIGHLIGHTS. She gave me gorgeously natural highlights (I upgraded from my promotion to a half-head of highlights and a gloss). Her "micro"-something method of highlighting near the roots makes them look unbelievably natural and will allow me to not have to keep up the hair color. Like almost everyone else, I bought a groupon-style deal from a man in Madison Square Park. At first I was not interested but the man was so persistent that he knocked the price of the package from $70 to $30 -- at that point it was a good deal so I went for it. I needed to book an appointment 2 months out because that's how booked they are. When I finally made my appointment and went, Michael cut my hair. He was great, listened to exactly what I wanted and went exactly by the picture I brought with me. He was also super friendly to talk to while he was cutting my hair! The deduction in 2 stars comes in when I finally had to leave. With the purchase of the package, I needed to pay a $15 cash fee on the date of the appointment for supplies. I knew this going in, so I was prepared and paid as soon as I walked in, before I even got my hair cut. Out of courtesy I walked back to the receptionist at the end of my appointment to make sure I was all set and she was so rude and shady about the $15 that I already paid! She took 5 minutes looking through papers and her computer, asking me 3 times "Are you sure you paid the $15?" as if I was trying to steal from them. It was super strange and left a bad taste in my mouth about how quickly she was to judge me. read more

This place is thebomb.com - Hannah Faulkner always makes my hair color stand out and very vivid, exactly what other salons have not been able to achieve. Not to mention and I get compliments on my hair color by strangers constantly. She is always honest about results and has excellent sense for aesthetics, she knows what shades work best with my skin tone and eye color etc. Her haircuts are flawless, and the results yield a style I can even make look good on my own. I live in North Carolina, unfortunately, and getting my hair cut by other stylists just isn't the same. I would recommend anyone make the trip to NYC just to see her! Hannah isn't the only one who is fantastic - last time I was there I witnessed a girl who worked at the club downstairs come in. She had gotten absolutely soaked by the rain on her way to work. One of their stylists gave her a blow out FOR FREE out of the kindness of her heart so that she wouldn't have to go to work looking like a drowned puppy. That isn't something you'll find at other salons- while their services aren't free, rest assured they are the kind of people you'll want to come back to again and again. read more

Let me just start by saying Foster Glorioso gets 5 stars for cleanliness, very friendly staff, and overall gorgeous appearance. I've followed Michael Glorioso forever. Years ago, when his job took off and moved him into Manhattan, I was still willing to make the trip. If I didn't have Michael I wouldn't know who else to trust with my hair. I am very picky about my hair, and grew an attachment to how long it is. Michael's never compromised the length of my hair, while keeping it smooth, lustrous, and always with fresh ends. I'd say he's great with short do's, but also knows how to keep the integrity of long, flowing hair. He recently did the balyage effect on my hair - which was new to me. I absolutely loved it! I was hesitant about color at first because I've seen other people's "high lights" and most of the time it doesn't have a natural quality. Michael's work for me has always been natural looking and clean - as if the color is meant to be there. I am excited and proud to say I am getting married next summer and will absolutely be using Michael's services. His styling is AMAZING! I highly recommend Michael and his staff!! read more

The only person I have trusted with my hair for the past 10 years is Michael Glorioso. When I learned he was becoming one of the owners of a salon I was extremely happy for him because he was simply made for this. Michael has seen my hair through it all. For ten years straight he's colored, cut, and styled it. My hair has been light, dark, short, and long and I have always received the best compliments. Michael has always styled my hair for every occasion, including the few times I was a bridesmaid - that's when I received amazing compliments. He's done gorgeous up-do's for me as well as soft, loose curls. I would recommend Michael to everyone because he is hard-working, has his own amazing style, but is also extremely attentive to your needs, and listens to what you want when it comes to how you want your hair to look. I normally hate having my hair done, but there was a promotion for this salon because it is new and I hadn't found a place I liked in the city, so I went with the anticipation that my hair would end up looking stylish, but not really what I imagined. As always. Turns out Michael is fantastic. He really listened to what I wanted (little time spent on my hair in the morning), but hair that was also more interesting than my current mousy situation. He lightened some strands of my hair in a really natural way, not all the way to the root so that when it grows, it won't look fake and need retouching so often. The cut is great, light layering and healthy shine. Basically, my hair is FABULOUS, and from a non-hair-involved person, that's saying something about this place. I have thick hair that has a tendency to be dry and hard to style, but I left the salon feeling light and renewed. Everything from the reception to the consultation to the cut was top notch. The professionals were friendly and warm, and Michael was such a sweet soul! He did a great job of incorporating his expertise with my requests (easy to manage, light, won't look completely different after one wash) and I left with a sleek and stylish haircut. It is completely different than the boring layers or straight cut that I usually get, and I wouldn't trust anybody to pull it off if it weren't for the assuredness and professionalism of the people here; and yes, their presentation aligns with their results! Ive been going to what was formerly STUDIO salon for about 5 years now. Its now called FOSTER GLORIOSO and the newly renovated space is refreshing, glamorous and completely GLORIOSO. I've seen both Paul and Michael for color and both are amazing. The last time I was in I saw Michael for highlights and a haircut and Ive gotten nothing but complements on my hair. What I truly love about this salon is the hand massage that the assistants give while washing your hair. The staff is lovely and the front desk couldn't be more accommodating. His haircut is outstanding and he helped me to grow a "new haircut" which I receive compliments for on a consistent basis. In addition, he operates a extremely professional business. When I called to make my appointment, Lisa told me all I needed to know to prepare for my appointment, including the $25 service fee and READING THE CONDITIONS in back of the flyer. Absolutely love this salon!! I was walking down the street and a guy stopped me and sold me a deal to try out this salon. The salon is up a few flights on an elevator, I wasnt sure what to expect but the place was immaculate inside. I was given a robe and a glass of wine and met with my stylist Michael G. He is also the salon owner. The consultation on my hair was very helpful and in addition to the highlights Michael gave me a deep conditionig treatment to tame my frizz! She's fantastic. Calm, professional and extremely talented, Sharifa does everything from shampoo to color to cut to blow dry with attention to detail you rarely find. My friend recommended I check out This salon, its on a fourth floor of a building in Flatiron. I was looking for a simple mens cut at a nice place in the city where I frequently travel. I was very impressed, when the elevator opened I was in a modern and super clean place. Mike was great from the moment I came in and very professional. I never know what to ask for whenngetting a cut and my stylistbwas able to recommend something that I really liked in the end.
