We decided to go here instead of the big box stores and are very happy we did. The quality of boards we received for our fencing project were superior. We had them delivered to our home and we were told that if weren't pleased with any of boards we could exchange them. Out of the 216 boards we only needed to exchange 11 and we are very picky. We also experienced excellent customer service. The prices may be a little higher but well worth the cost when you consider the quality you are receiving. Disappointing Strange Billing Practice? I asked Foster Lumber to open an account to purchase and have delivered good quality lumber to my disabled son's home in Vallejo. I lived in Berkeley and ordered from Truitt & White but the delivery to Vallejo was too far. Foster Lumber told me they could open an account for us for Vallejo deliveries ONLY if I deposited in advance. They would send monthly statements to both my son and myself in Berkeley and a REMINDER to deposit more funds in advance when our credit balance was gettig low..I made several deposits via a personal check. When I did not receive a statement, I called and suggested the accountant send the statements online. Statements were sporadic...different staff members answered the phone each time I called, appologising. The credit balance stayed around $100 for several years.I was not informed to deposit several hundred dollars in the account as agreed when we started the contract. Further, please review this Customer Account record--clear the 'open items' misinformation that appears on the Customer Account Statement 12/1/2023 . The ''no of transactions' shows a 'value of transactions' with remaining Balance due of $123.10. We have '0' transactions, nor a prior unpaid balance due.Please adjust this accounting. I made the deposits in good faith, expecting Foster Lumber to live up to our contractual agreement that we would be informed of the remaining positive credit deposit balance with a reminder to deposit more funds when it was a + balance below $100. Instead, now we are informed of a negative balance ! I always pay all bills in full--never make monthly payments of carry over charges offered other than taxes and insurance. My neighbor and I had paid for redwood slats for a fence project through our contractor. Two weeks later when our contractor was going to pick them up, the boards were bad. Boards were dirty and cut from other lumber to create the slats and deemed not usable for our fence project by our contractor. This resulted in Fosters not correcting the issue and wanting to refund our payments. Additionally, this resulted in delay of getting our fence completed. It also took Fosters several times to get an invoice. Issues ranging from their scanner didn't work or someone called in sick. I do not believe I will be doing business with them anymore. read more

When one walks in the door, you immediately get the unhelpful vibe - you're not going to get what you need from these people today, loser. Tomorrow isn't much better either. You know what I mean. Every time we've gone in, it's just disinterested and lousy service. Paid $900 for about 12 pieces of clear coat grade white oak for doorway trim. Wrapped up tight, it sat in our garage for 3 months for our contractor to install. When unwrapped, all pieces had deep mill marks, many splits and knot holes. The wood was not finish sanded and we ended up having to pay someone better (Hardwood Resource) $700 to replane and sand the wood. It still wasn't that great, so we bought about a third of what we needed again from HR for $400 and the product was BEAUTIFUL. When we went to Foster to show them the crap material they sold us, we got nothing, nada. No care, no interest, no solutions offered. So, no thanks. They've lost a $10K+ customer in me. read more

Unhelpful. I went in to get a replacement board (tongue in groove) for a stable door. They helped me with one a few years back (had the board in stock) and even cut it to match the old one. However, this time the guy that was at the counter acted smug and condescending. I showed him the board I was trying to replace he chuckled at me and said "tongue in groove huh? Na, we don't do those...." I asked him if he knew anyone who sold this type of board and he was very dismissive and wouldn't offer any help. I took my business to Meeks Lumber in Vacaville. Had the special redwood I needed for a decorative fence. Staff was very helpful. Cut the lumber to spec's. Yes, it was a little bit more BUT I got the wood I needed and milled to boot. I am a fence contractor and have been doing business with Foster Lumber for the last 4 years. I am extremely satisfied with the service that I get every time. They deliver all of my orders to my job sites and do everything possible to bring me what I need, when I need it, keeping in mind that I always try to plan ahead and give them plenty of notice. It was just an awful experience dealing with Foster Lumber. Awful from the moment I walked into the yard. I went back to place a large order (turned out to be a $1,000 order for lumber & milling), & I found an employee who was obviously busy. We made eye contact but he ignored me, no greeting or anything. I figured he just needed a minute to wrap up some things, so I let it be. Plus, it was hot outside and he looked miserable. After 10 minutes of standing 10 feet from the guy, I was fed up and asked him directly for help. He was extremely rude and said "You're just gonna have to wait!" This didn't sit well with me and we ended up getting a shouting match right there in the lumber yard. I ended up getting his manager who calmed me down and told me "he's just having a bad day, sorry. We'll give you 10% off your order. We'll talk to him." I figured that would save me 100 bucks, so I let it slide. The order took a day to process, it was 4x8' sheets that I wanted cut up and milled into 8 inch x 8 foot' planks. I picked the order up at the agreed upon time, and all was well until I was on the job site. After examining the wood, I noticed that all the planks were roughly cut & tapered. One end would be 8'' wide and the other end would be 7''. Or another board would be 8.5'' that tapered down to 6.75''. There was absolutely no uniformity to the cuts, they were all uneven and looked like a 12-year-old was behind the saw. No, make that an 8 year old with an eye patch. There was no attention to detail, and it slowed up my job by 3 days! I called the manager about the problem and he said to bring back the uneven planks and he would calculate a refund. I said no thanks, I was 3 hours away now, and it wasn't worth the trip, I needed the lumber for the job I was on and didn't have time to waste. I ended up re-sawing everything myself (with care). I will never purchase anything from this company again. They take no pride in their workmanship, customer service, or reputation. They give Fairfield a bad name. read more

He actually laughed about his prices as if it were some sort of badge of honor. This guy has the worst attitude and a condescending way of speaking to you. This location lacks any hardware and even the most basic Simpson hangers are missing such as post caps Ace ac6 AC4 for example. The store looks as if it's out of business like they don't even care what the presentation looks like inside they are unwilling to do anything when it comes to you needing a smaller piece of wood for example I requested a small piece of window sill we could either be MDF or natural wood wasn't picky on the size and they tried to force me into buying an 8 foot long piece stating that wasn't divisible and I pointed out to them well then sell it to me as a 4-foot isn't 4-foot divisible by 20 or 16 or 12 or 8 my experience in general with this place is that they never have what you're looking for yeah if you want to by fours and fence boards they might have it but they're very weak on the construction connectors extremely weak on screws that carry nothing from grk overall this Lumberyard should just go out of business and do everybody a favor and not make them a potential place to run for something in that of course it never pans out as essentially in almost all cases stop going there look for anything because of the lack of inventory and complete lack of material or willingness to help you I give them zero Stars read more
