Vanilla and caramel iced latte and maple spice hot latte
    Lexi G.

Ambience and space was perfect! Lots of seating, bright lighting, and even some tables and chairs outside. Coffee was 4/5 because the flavors weren't entirely strong and I do love sweet lattes. We got an iced vanilla, an iced caramel with oat, and then a hot maple spice latte with oat milk. Hear me out... the maple spice kind of tasted like Indian food. I guzzled that down. It was so good, and the spices definitely made it unique! Vanilla latte was ehhhh and caramel was pretty good.

This was my first time back at Foster St in a long while- as always, this place was popping. Ambiance is nice: there's a lot of seating inside, but it's so busy that you may have a hard time finding a spot. I got the seasonal Peaches & Cream flavor but with a Matcha Latte Iced, it was delicious! I appreciated how strong the peach flavor was. Service is fast. Free parking is kind of a struggle near Foster St tbh. 8/10 would recommend!

    16 oz Honey Iced Coffee

Hubby and I along with his brother stopped in for an afternoon iced coffee. I ordered a 16 oz honey iced coffee to share with hubby. We both enjoyed it. Not too sweet, good amount of ice, mild honey flavor. Fast and friendly service. The bathrooms were clean. Lots of WFH people hanging out in there. I liked the chill, laidback vibe of Foster Street Coffee. We would definitely stop in again.

Breakfast burrito, iced coffee, blackberry latte

What a pleasant surprise! I had gotten this place recommended to me from a friend, and oh boy! it lived up to the hype! Very cute and clean inside. I picked a special summer drink, the blackberry coffee with vanilla syrup, and it was delicious. Took a moment of adjusting to the fruit flavor, but after a few sips it all blended and tasted so good. I split the burrito and it was yummy and an average good quality for what it is. Highly recommend this place!!!

Modern, open coffee shop with small selection of breakfast sandwiches and pastries. Props on their coffee! They serve two self-serve SINGLE ORGIN COFFEE OPTIONS with free refills. They serve a light and dark roast. Today's light roast was Ethiopean beans which was nice. I would have preferred pour over with beans like this but coffee was much higher quality than most breakfast joints. The BREAKFAST BURRITO was good. It is pre-made, and they heat it up. It was made with quality shell and ingredients. It was an authentic southwest breakfast burrito with eggs , black beans, and delicious seasoned tomatoes.

Stopped in Foster Street Coffee after the Durham Farmers Market on a Saturday morning. While it was busy, they got my coffee out quickly. It seemed like a great spot to catch up on some work and grab a delicious coffee. They had multiple fun flavored lattes if you are into that kind of thing.

My friend brought me here because she strongly recommended their consistent quality of coffee. I very much enjoyed the Foster Latte which involved honey, vanilla, and lavender. I couldn't really taste the lavender but the honey and vanilla definitely came through along a good mix of coffee and milk. The warmed up chocolate crossiant was also pretty solid!! Gooey melted chocolate on the inside vs the flakey crossiant on the outside with thin pieces of crispy chocolate flakes. The store was spacious with lots of seating options inside (plus some outside). Definitely see it being a popular study or date spot. The staff were very nice and conversational!

    Cayenne D.

If you can find a seat, you're lucky! If not, there are seats outside! The ladies inside are super friendly and they don't skimp on the almond milk! Yay! go simple! Single drip with lavender syrup is the way to go! Iced or hot!

    Cold Brew, Toffee Nut Latte
    JJ C.

Atmosphere: Foster Street Coffee is a popular spot among Duke students and Durhamites. Conveniently located in Downtown Durham next to the Food Hall, it's ideal for a quick coffee run or study session. Their interior is bright and clean. Keep in mind that it can be difficult to find a seat especially during the academic school year. Their wifi can also get pretty slow during busier hours. Service: Our barista was kind, and our drinks were made quickly. Food: We ordered their Cold Brew and Hot Toffee Nut Latte. We can confidently say that this was the worst cold brew we've ever had. It was bitter and had no complexity. When we first tried it, our immediate thoughts were "burnt," "tastes like medicine," and "is this really their cold brew??" The Toffee Nut Latte had potential, but it was overpowered by the syrup and hardly had notes of coffee. Overall: We were excited to give Foster Street Coffee a try due to their aesthetically pleasing interior and hype from friends. However, we were extremely disappointed by their drinks. Between their slower wifi, limited seating, and unpalatable drinks, it is unlikely that we'll find ourselves returning.

    matcha latte with oat milk

I came across Foster Street from a friend's recommendation, and it is a lovely coffee shop! There are plenty of seating, tables, and bar stools - great for working, group study, or a casual meet-up with friends. The interior is bright, and roomy. Plenty of natural light and plants, it is very inviting and comforting. What a great start to my visit to Durham! The baristas were friendly and chatted with me as I ordered. I got a matcha latte with honey and oat milk. They don't make their matcha fresh to order though...it's premade and they took a container out of the fridge and poured it in a cup for me. The matcha was not as strong as I would've liked, and it was more of a 'green tea latte' rather than pure matcha. I also wish they used glass cups and mugs for dine in use. I will opt for a coffee next time, as their matcha was a bit of a letdown for me. But their spacious interior and friendly staff did win me over to give them another chance in the future!

Irish cream cold brew, I could only stomach a little bit of it

I wanted to love this place since it's so close to the Durham Farmers Market, but I was disappointed! The vibe inside is cute but a little weirdly sterile. Not a cozy coffee shop by any means. I got their Irish cream cold brew, which was on special, and it was honestly the worst cold brew I've ever had. I'm not sure if it was the Irish cream flavoring or the cold brew base itself, but it almost tasted burnt and like peppermint instead of Irish cream... super weird. I went and got coffee at Crema in Cary right after not my proudest moment but it was that bad!

Spacious area for our stroller and scooter

Popped into Foster Street Coffee with my husband and daughter while we were out on a scooter/OneWheel ride around Durham. Initially we were worried about wheeling in our scooter but the staff was welcoming. We found a spot with some comfy chairs in the back near the restroom which had enough space for our scooter and stroller. The staff was very conversational and asked us questions about our 4 month old. We got an iced chai latte and iced coffee. The iced coffee was pretty standard but the iced chai latte was amazing! I kept stealing it from my husband and wished I had ordered it for myself. We also got a chocolate croissant, which was good but don't think I would get it again. The shop is very clean and comfortable. Would definitely come back if we are in the area!

It has solid coffee: Drinks here are consistently pretty good. I usually go for their Campfire Latte (a signature for a reason) or whatever seasonal syrup they're featuring, and their matcha latte is reliable too. It has actual, warm food: simple but satisfying sandwiches with enough variety to make for a perfect study snack or light lunch. I am often disappointed when coffee shops only offer cold pastries. It has entertainment: I love taking a quick study break to browse the shop's outdoor gear and clothing; it honestly feels a little like being transported to the West Coast for a moment (give me some Oregan vibes!). This particular morning, I knew I wanted to stop by Trader Joe's afterward, but they weren't open yet. So I pulled up the map looking for a coffee shop where I could get a little coworking done. Thousand Hills Coffee popped up, and it had been on my "need to try" list for a while. I also shot my buddy KH a quick text to see if he wanted to join me and catch up on our latest ultra running training shenanigans. Thankfully, he was game. I rolled in around 8:30 a.m. and managed to grab a decent parking spot. Worth mentioning because the coffee shop shares parking with the apartment complex next door, so I imagine spaces can disappear quickly. KW arrived a few minutes before me and had to park a bit farther away. Walking inside, I immediately liked the vibe. It feels modern but still cozy, almost like someone's really well-designed living room. There are several distinct seating areas, plenty of soft chairs, a long community table, and even bar seating overlooking the baristas. It struck a nice balance between coffee shop and comfortable workspace. Since I'd already knocked out my morning run, I was ready for a little breakfast. KH and I both ordered the cheese, Danish. It looked huge in the display case, though it shrank a bit once it made it onto the plate. That said, it was really flavorful and definitely worth ordering. I also grabbed a regular drip coffee, which was excellent. My timing was amusing because they had just finished the last pot and were brewing a fresh one, but honestly, getting a fresh cup probably worked out for the best. We grabbed chairs next to the long community table instead at the table since the morning sun was already heating things up. We spent a while catching up, talking running, races, and all the usual endurance athlete nonsense. After KH headed out, I relocated to the long table that was in the shade and spent another hour or so catching up on emails and getting a little work done. It turned out to be a great co-working spot with plenty of room to spread out without feeling like you were taking up space. One last shoutout to the staff, who were genuinely friendly and welcoming throughout my visit. Good coffee is one thing, but great people always make the experience better. Overall, I came away impressed. Somehow, they've been open for about two years, and I'm honestly not sure how they managed to stay off my radar for so long. Safe to say they'll be making it into my regular rotation whenever I need a good cup of coffee and a comfortable place to get some work done.
