I came here to study around 8pm and there was ample study areas/tables with outlets nearby. There is also something that looks like a conference room with a whiteboard but I can't attest to it's functionality since I wasn't using it. However, it appears to be great for group study. I ordered the iced foster's honey lavender latte with oats milk and was impressed with the quality. It is not too sweet and the lavender flavor is well balanced. I also ordered a yogurt parfait which was a little sweet for my preference but great for those looking for a sweet treat. The ambience is beautiful here with bright lighting and trendy decor. So glad I was able to check this place out on my weekend trip to Durham! My partner and I got the iced coffee drinks that were specials. They were very good. We also got the best lemon bar I've ever had. One bite and I said "This is exactly how this should taste. This is perfect." It was buttery, tart, perfectly sweet. I was blown away. Foster's is a great little shop right next to the Durham farmer's market. I had a truly exceptional oat milk latte with lavender, honey, and vanilla. I live less than 3 blocks from here and it is my go-to place for coffee at the moment. I love the ambiance​ of the coffee shop. It's well designed and super spacious! It doesn't feel like you are sitting next to a stranger. The coffee is good and the ​prices are right. Most importantly, I love how positive the owner is. Stopped by this cute coffee shop while at the Farmer's Market. My daughter really likes all of the plants that they had indoors. There were many sitting areas available, and everyone was doing a good job social distancing as beat they could. I ordered the Medium Chai Latte extra hot with Oat Milk and my son ordered a small Peppermint Hot Chocolate with Almond Milk. Both were really very good. I was quite surprised. Foster Street Coffee is my new go-to coffee shop in Durham! I just moved from a city that only had multiple locations of the Ol' Green & White (aka Starbucks), which pales in comparison to Foster Street Coffee. Once I walked in, I felt the atmosphere to be super warm and conducive for either studying or a chill meet-up. There was ample seating, including a few comfy couches that were really clean and didn't have any stains. There's even a conference room you can book if you have a large group. I typically will ask the barista for his or her current favorite drink (not too sweet or no sweetness) at my first visit to a local coffee shop. I was surprised with a maple spice latte with Oatly oat milk. I definitely recommend this delicious concoction!! The maple spice was just right and the foam made from the Oatly oat milk was on point. I'll definitely be back to try their other intriguing items, including hot chocolate and items containing chili pepper! They also have artisanal items from local artists and food vendors on sale like pottery and Locopops. The freezer was empty, but I'm guessing they'll be in stock in the summer time, which will be perfect for the kids. Also, free parking is a HUGE plus! Covered parking garage is attached to the building around the corner. Remember to bring your parking ticket to get validated. All in all, definitely 5/5 and will be back next week! read more

This is a popular spot for studying among Duke students. The lattes, including the dark chocolate mocha, are delicious. If I lived nearby, I probably would want to drink coffee here everyday. It can be a bit hard to get seats during peak times but if you get a seat, it's really a great place to chill, read a book, or study. I ran across Foster Street Coffee when I went to the new Dames Chicken and Waffles next door. I'm always thrilled to find new local coffee shops so I was very excited to see what they had to offer. Atmosphere: Very quiet and lowkey. There were a ton of students and people in there working. Very clean and minimalistic, which I LOVE. They also have a space that you can use for meetings, on a first come first serve basis. Coffee: I ordered an Iced Vanilla Latte which was very good. You can tell they take their time preparing your drink to make sure it's just right. It's not as rushed as chain coffee shops (that shall remain nameless). It was literally perfect. The cashier and the barista were both extremely nice. I've already made plans to go back and try something new and planning a meeting soon as well. Parking is kinda iffy, but that's to be expected downtown. So be prepared to walk a block or so. read more

Walked in at 4:55 on a Wednesday afternoon, right before they closed. Ordered a cappuccino anyway, but wish I could have had time to explore and get a sense of the place. It's a very pretty new place, and the prices, while in teeney tiny type, seem to be reasonable. Maybe I'll get over here some other time, but if you're closing at 5pm every day, you're going to miss a huge amount of business in this area. Sure, business folks can say "let's run get a cuppa" and pop in, but meeting before or after a play or a show at MotorCo is not in the cards. That is the sole reason for the two stars off. When I came in Foster's on a rainy Friday morning, they were playing the Red Hot Chili Peppers's Californication. Shortly thereafter, they were playing (Beatles') Come Together, but in an "Across the Universe" way, not a rad way. I think their soundscape captures the vibe I got pretty perfectly: modern-ish without being progressive, an attempt at hip that avoids the possibility of offending. I am writing this review primarily as someone looking for a place to work. I can't help but agree with Jade B.: with so many stellar, locally-grounded places blocks away, my expectations were high. What will Foster Street bring to our coffee shop ecosystem? The space is large, clean, filled with natural light. Your stuffy aunt from Scottsdale won't find anything to complain about. But to me, it feels sterile. Located as it is on the first floor of a luxury apartment complex, I was hoping it could avoid this -- but alas, they haven't. Something ineffable is missing: maybe it's vision, creative energy, purpose. I don't know. From the glass tabletops (too small for two people with laptops to work at together comfortably) to from-a-box canvas art of birds and boats to a relatively uninspired coffee menu, I have the impression I'm working in a space designed for me by people in a high-rise who think they know what I like. The coffee is good to very good, Wifi consistent, hours generous, prices fair. The chairs are metal with slats in them -- what you might found outdoors -- and they are not comfortable to sit in for extended periods of time. There are some snack and pastry offerings I didn't take part in. Overall, I have no major complaints. Situated as it is next to Central Park, Foster Street Coffee fits very much into new developments in the area that are shiny and presentable. It doesn't represent the vision of Durham I want to be a part of building, and as they say, there's no neutral on a moving train. I anticipate dropping by for a cup of joe now and then (that convenience), but I'll try to spend my dollars and hours at other places: Kaffeinate, Joe Van Gogh, Cocoa Cinnamon. read more

Love swinging by Foster Street Coffee for a cold brew when I'm around or picking hip bagels from next door. The daily main menu is a bit small, but there are SO MANY specials and additional things around, and I am pretty sure if there was something you didn't see, the baristas could totally whip it up for you! It's got a pretty minimalist vibe which I really like, and they have a variety of seating arrangements like tables and chairs by the window, a more secluded comfy chair in front on a fireplace and even a little private conference room. The atmosphere is amazing. It's soothing enough to fall asleep on a comfy couch yet nice enough to study or meet with other people for a good discussion. The decoration is amazing. One area has the feeling of a calm rainforest and yet one section feels like warm living room area to drink hot coffee before the fireplace. They have both cozy spots for lounging and more structured tables perfect for setting up to get some work done. Came here on a Tuesday morning during finals week for a study spot and was pleasantly surprised! It's super cozy inside and it's a lot larger than it looks from the pictures and the outside. There's plenty of parking streetside, or inside the Liberty Warehouse garage. You can park on the lower level and they'll validate your ticket! I only had the chance to try their sparkling soda, which was pretty reasonably priced and refreshing on a warm spring day. It is basically just flavored syrup and carbonated water though so pretty hard to mess up. My friend had a berry smoothie though and was not super impressed. She said it tasted pretty artificial rather than being made out of real fruit. The ambiance and decor are really great for studying and getting work done! There's quite a few tables and comfy looking chairs, as well as a fireplace. There's also what looks like a private meeting room, though I'm not sure what the process for using that is like. However, for a coffee shop, there are very few power outlets. My friend and I had to stay tethered at one of the smaller inside tables to charge, whereas we would have preferred to sit at a larger table by the window. I also would have loved to see a selection of pastries or sandwiches perhaps, for those wanting to grab a bite. Would come back for sure though - definitely not a dealbreaker! read more

Surrounded by a wholly conforming crowd to nu-Durham, transplants would find themselves immediately at home. But where is home? Where Foster St. struggles is in crafting a discernabe identity in a hyper-accelerated corporate take-over of a post-industrial Durham which is ever more subject to revitalization and at the mercy of conglomerates, restaurant groups, and Asana Partners. However bereft of identity is the new norm and this is what we are all seeking in our venues if we are being honest. ) read more

First off the only reason I gave this place one star is that it was very clean and the girl running the register was very nice. Me and my wife decided to give this place a try after seeing the reviews on Yelp. I ordered a hot flavored latte . I was very disappointed. The espresso in it was super bitter and you couldn't even taste the flavoring in it. My wife ordered one of their iced coffee specialty drinks. After my wife tasted it. She said it was horrible and tasted bad and that there was no flavoring to it. I took it back and told them and they said they'd remake it. The register girl was nice about it but the girl behind the espresso machine looked at me in kind of disgust. They did not remake. They poured some of it out. Mixed some flavoring and cream together. Poured it over the drink and swished it around. Still no taste or it. Will I give this place another chance? Probably not. read more

This coffee shop is pretty cute and provides a beautiful environment to do work. The only issue that I have is that there is only one sized for an iced drink and they only give you the biggest size. I wish there was a bit more flexibility on their iced beverages rather than having basically a large every time you want an iced drink. I visited Foster Street Coffee a couple of times, during lunch time. When you walk in, the coffee shop is open and welcoming. The coffee bar is a few steps away from the door and each time, a smiling barista was waiting to take my order. The coffee shop is bigger than what it looks like from the street. Inside are cozy tables up front of the large window overlooking the street and then a few oversized armchairs that looked very soft (haven't tested them out yet!) A little further back were some longer tables that looked like they were good for working on the laptop and sipping on your coffee. There was also a conference room with a large table and a TV for more organized meetings. I was impressed because this coffee shop could be a very convenient place to meet at if your organization is located in Downtown Durham. The menu board is simple, clean and elegant. They carry everything you'd expect from a coffee shop. I decided to try a coffee frappe, which is ice cream, coffee and vanilla. It wasn't overly sweet at all. The coffee flavor came through strong, so it's not quite like a milkshake. Maybe not good for a kid. It was tasty and I finished it all easily. I think I'll experiment with the syrup flavors in the future. For my second visit, I tried a vanilla chai latte. I must admit that Starbucks is my standard for a vanilla chai latte. I find they have the best taste to me. I've tried a lot vanilla chais in other coffee shops and they never quite compare to Starbucks. But Foster Street surprised me. Their vanilla chai was light but sweet, creamy, slightly spicy and the froth on top was perfect. There was a lot of it. I was impressed with the first sip. It's just as good as Starbucks chai, for sure. I will definitely make that drink a staple for next time I visit Foster. Expensive and flavorless. Got their special "dessert" latte - white chocolate, pumpkin, oat milk. Two of us tried it and it only tasted like burnt coffee to us... no white chocolate or pumpkin flavors at all, no sweetness. The large was $6.99 which is outrageous for what we got. I prefer EverLou or Oak House or Parker & Otis for flavored or seasonal lattes. I would come to Foster Street Coffee every day if I could. The people working there are always so nice and they bring your drink to you, the music is spot on and never too loud, and the vibes are perfect for studying, catching up with a friend, reading, or just hanging out. I honestly love the coffee there too, I think it's on par with Liturgy right next door, plus they sell small things to snack on and lunch sandwiches as well. There are many tables, most with access to power outlets, and I have very rarely run into issues with the wifi. It can be difficult to find a seat and there are always road closures for events at the Durham park down the street, but I love coming anyways. Foster's is the best! read more
