I stop in here to get a big box for our small office and by the end of the day there is virtually nothing left, even though most of my office is trying to be (or is actually) healthy. No one can resist these. Huge selection and I love that they have some fun special donuts like with kid's cereal stuck on top. They also have small bites like donut holes, cronut holes, and 2-bite creme puffs. They do have some savory stuff like ham & cheese sandwiches pre-made too, and of course coffee and I think they have ice cream too? I only ever come here for the rich delicious goodness of donuts!!! My girls love this new find! They have a massive selection of donuts!! Everything from a maple bacon bar to the claims glazed. Even cereal topped donuts, like Apple Jacks, rainbow Rice Krispies and Frosted Flakes. The lady/possible owner was sooo sweet and patient with one of my daughters who was being shy and couldn't make a selection. She did not rush us and kept saying "it's ok it's ok." The quintessential, ideal local donut shop. Always fresh, always delicious across a wide spectrum of offerings, and very reasonably priced (this is no bougie Sidecar-esque joint, just outstanding, classic donuts). Parking is free and easy, the proprietors are nice, they're open long hours, I honestly can't think of a single negative thing about it. It's to the point where I find myself making excuses to come grab their donuts any time I can. I've tried most of their offerings in the 3 years since I moved to the area, and you really can't go wrong with anything...but if I had to pinpoint my personal favorites, it's gotta be the glazed buttermilk bar, the chocolate chip roll, and the old-fashioned. We stopped by on at about 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. Place was not busy at all, they still had a pretty good selection of items on the menu. The donut was actually really good it was one of the best I had in a while. Reason for a 1 star is the female over the counter helping us was RUDE, her energy level to us & other guest was horrible. We asked for 2 donuts total. She put 4 in the bag. When I told her I only had 1 of each for a total of 2 she grab the bag taking the extras out & she put them back to the shelve with anger & whispered something to herself. Absolutely delicious donuts!!! And you can trust me, I'm very particular! Just looking at them in the display case, I knew they were going to be good. They were so perfectly arranged and beautifully decorated. I decided to try an iced cake donut, apple fritter, raspberry filled and a maple cruller. All of them were super tasty, but I especially loved the cake donut. I'm pretty picky when it comes to cake donuts, but this one melted in my mouth! It was not heavy or greasy at all, just as a cake donut should be- light and fluffy. One of my biggest pet peeves with donuts is when they taste oily, but this was not the case with Foster's donuts. Because my husband does, and because he doesn't like driving a zillion miles to West L.A. where the BEST cronut maker is located, so he likes coming here to Foster's in a pinch. The niceness of the owners is variable. The older guy and the lady are very nice and enthusiastic. The younger guy (I'll assume he's their son) is a complete sour puss and acts as if he hates his life and you're inconveniencing him to no end. I've been patronizing Fosters since the mid '80s. Their donuts have always been amazing. The yeast donuts are always light and fluffy. The traditional glazed donuts have a beautifully glossy and smooth luscious layer atop them. Fosters must be sticklers for oil temperature. Their fried donuts don't get wet underneath the glaze. Even the next day, their donuts are unchanged fresh from the fryer and are still good the next day. Not optimum, but better than fresh elsewhere. Aside from their genius at glazed, they do fritters and cake donuts spectacularly. In particular I like their Apple fritters and red velvet donuts. Just try them you'll see what I mean. Even after my 30+ years of loyalty, I don't expect them to recognize me as a "regular". But I am. So why 4 stars? Well, the foul stinking mood of the younger guy is, at a minimum, uncomfortable. Now, why oh why would they suddenly decide to close at 9:00PM instead of their usual 11:00pm? So... let me get this straight. We are coming out the other side of restrictions so they CUT their hours? I don't do their books but, economically it makes no sense. Finally people are buying food for after dinner dessert, so they close down two hours earlier than they have for 30+ years? We literally have declined dessert at Mastros, knowing we could get something better at Fosters! Not any more! We'd have to hustle out of there to arrive breathlessly before 9. And, let's be real. What will all the people with the munchies do? I can only conclude the sour guy created this contemptuous change because he hates us all and his life. Shall we take up donations to send him to therapy? Might be worth it. If they change their hours back, I'll increase my rating. Until then, once they recognize why they have so many loyal local patrons and honor us, how can we be held to continued honor and support of their business? With a saint of a woman behind the counter, Foster's is brilliant. The amount of seating and cleanliness surpass Gladstone's, Stan's and Donut Depot easily, and the owner's are sure to put a smile on your face while knowing literally everything there is to know about their selection. Star 2 - How were the portions relative to the cost? WOW. Okay. If you're feeling donuts, you should probably commit to completely wrecking your diet before walking thru the doors of Foster's. No pansy little rings or donut holes here. Picture it - 4 PM on Friday, driving down the 101 after a long day at work, anticipating the dreadful Calabasas traffic and to make matters worse, I'm starting to get the shakes because it's National Donut Day and I have had ZERO donuts. I've been thinking about donuts, getting texts about donuts and scrolling through Instagram looking at pictures of everyone else's donuts all freakin day! Well a quick Yelp search brings up Fosters and the next thing you know, my cravings are satisfied! Fosters have some unique choices so of course I had to get more than one. My standby is an apple fritter and the ones here are HUGE, seriously the size of my head. I also got the chocolate chip donut with chocolate filling and a plain glazed. While the donuts were all really good, I have to say, they were on the sweet side. I know what you're thinking, hello... they're donuts, they're supposed to be sweet! But the ones at Fosters just seemed excessively sugary sweet to the point that I started getting a toothache after a few bites. I would still definitely come back for an apple fritter... also maybe a cronut because you can't buy just one! read more

I feel like Moody's because after some more experience, I'm in deliberations over upgrading their rating to a 5. They're still my #2 donut store in Thousand Oaks, but it's after Stan's Doughnuts which is my favorite of the many, many donut shops I've tried in SoCal. Still, if I were going to pick Thousand Oaks's best [insert type of reasonably common donut], I'd probably end up here instead of Stan's because Foster's is so good at making standard types of donuts whereas Stan's is strong in its crazy creations that nobody else offers. The donuts taste great because of things like a soft but crisp dough with a sweet, crackly glaze, and the muffins are similarly great. They have a sort of floury component that makes them taste very different from the grainier muffins you'll find in a grocery store, sort of like the ones at the Donut Depot except that the muffins at Foster's have a kind of angel food cake quality too. That isn't me calling Foster's plain, because it has a sort of "silent selection." I guess I'd categorize large selections into three types, my favorite being the "innovative selection" like Stan's where they just make up a bunch of recipes out of nowhere. My least favorite is the sort of "pointless selection" like where they offer a bunch of cake donuts and change the frosting and sprinkle colors but everything tastes the same. Foster's silent selection is where they offer a bunch of things where you can name the items or describe the items with standard names of their components and they taste different, like an old-fashioned donut (the bar, not the ring) that's covered in chocolate frosting and chocolate chips. They also have great selections in things like the coffee drinks and the muffins, where they have things like pumpkin. They've got two sleek but unfortunately dark green marble-print counters, one with five barstools, and another with four wooden chairs with backs. In typical Thousand Oaks Blvd. fashion, though, there are no customer bathrooms. I've gotten two people behind the counter, and both were very nice, helpful, and professional. They have some ambitious flavors of ice cream that I haven't tried, and vanilla or chocolate fat-free frozen yogurt. I'd consider it a full-fledged ice cream shop in addition to a full-fledged donut shop, with a case of ice cream tubs. read more
