Sometimes you stumble upon a place purely by accident and it ends up being the best surprise. That was me after finishing an early appointment near by. I found this spot online and headed over and Im glad I did. From the moment I walked in I was greeted by the owners, husband and wife team who immediately made me feel welcome. They were eager to walk me through the menu, offered great suggestions, and were incredibly patient while my brain was still waking up at 9am lol. Their kindness and humor made me feel right at home. This place also feels homey. If you take a moment to look around, you'll notice the personal touches such as the artwork, photos, and thoughtful details that tell a story of their family. Okay Now to get to the good stuff the drinks and bites are stellar, here's what I got: I finally found a seriously addicting chai here in the 805. I'm very picky about chai, so when Robin insisted "you're trying this" so I listened and I'm so glad I did haha. Freshly brewed, no artificial flavors, perfectly spiced. I think I would dub this one of the BEST chai's I've ever had. 10/10. Their classic breakfast bites hit the spot too. I had a breakfast sandwich with crispy bacon and a fresh egg. Simple but good. I'd get this again but also would be open to trying some of their other bites. 8/10. The handmade bakery section here was unreal. The apple pastry I ordered was pure nostalgia and absolutely delicious. I can't wait to come back and try more of their daily baked goods. The selection was huge and lots of different options to try. I think their passionfruit pastry will be calling my name next time. Lastly I leave you with a Fun fact: if you're a football fan or into chess, this is your cafe. Chess tables are available for playing at and it's the perfect morning spot to catch matches over coffee and pastries. Came in to get a couple coffees I asked for a regular decaf they asked me once again. What did I want? They look confused no customer service at all. I drove here from Westlake to get a couple coffees since I heard they were good but the service is horrible no customer service when I approach the counter. This bakery in Thousand Oaks went out of the way to make sure my favorite cookies were available for me to pick up and enjoy!!! I absolutely love this bakery's Peanut Butter Cookies. In my opinion, they have set the bar on that and this is the standard I use for comparison. I'm visiting from NorCal and this is a must visit, so many delicious looking pastries, sandwiches and other choices to choose from and a great place for breakfast and lunch. This review is long overdue. I went to this café several weeks ago and I'm going through my pictures now and I forgot to post my review. I must say a double chocolate muffin delicious. I think I found my new café to come and get those and the spinach kale croissant oh my God there's no words it's so good and the almond croissant the feeling is so good and sweet when you have a sweet tooth this is one thing that you must try also there lavender latte it was very good. It smells like lavender and something that one must try when coming here. The surface exuded an incredible quality that captivated the eye. Pretty good coffee, really good food! Here's a picture of the savory sandwich we ordered and look at the size of that avocado! It's probably a little bit pricier, but it's good to see that they don't skimp out! Good ambiance inside too! Also, the owner talked me into ordering a Cubano instead of a Cortado and I think that was a very good move! Great cute little spot for breakfast/ lunch! I came in with a friend and we really enjoyed the experience and service. I had the pretzel croissant sandwich and the bread was light and crispy and tasted great in a sandwich. I ordered the raspberry rose latte and I was unsure if I was going to enjoy it because of the raspberry flavor but I sure enough did. For us, we were in no rush at all so we decided to have a nice, peaceful breakfast and absorb a little sunshine at one of their tables out front while we ate. As you can see from my picture attached to this review, we both went with their Croissant Breakfast sandwich (one with ham and one with sausage) as sadly, they were fresh out of bacon. (Sad face)... it's ok, next time!! Now, Let's talk about that croissant... OH. THAT. CROISSANT! Let's just say Historia Bakery & Cafe made the People of Paris... the People of France Proud!! Perfectly flaky, beautifully buttery, and boy did it just glisten in the sun. We discovered HBC on a whim a while back and have frequented it since. I love their half sweet van latte and occasionally get one of their pastries. The only downside is consistency, when the owner lady is there (I think she's the owner), the latte she makes is special and delicious. But if it's the younger girl, it's not consistent at all and she has a very heavy hand with the syrup. I like their house made toffee candy thing with the almonds (forgot what it was called) when they have it and also enjoyed their raspberry cake bar. Cute little coffee shop!! I really liked the pastries, and the staff were very sweet and fun. New barista who was a bit inexperienced, so the matcha could definitely use some work. I asked what brand of matcha they used as I am a bit picky and was told "I don't know." The matcha powder was kind of just floating around in the milk and the ratio was very off. Iced tea had not enough ice. As a barista for 6 years, I can offer the way I make matcha at my cafe. I recommend doing only 4-6 grams of powder, and then equal parts cold or room temp water to make a paste first as this ensures the matcha fully dissolves before adding more water. Then add to the milk and pour over ice or put in cup and add steamed milk for hot. read more

This is a lovely little coffee shop with good drip coffee and yummy breakfast options (like avocado toast with egg and tomato, pastries, and sweets). What stood out most to me is the sense of community among patrons. In just under 30 mins, I watched four customers come in and check in with staff, filling them in on their lives or asking for support with a personal issue. Having grown up in Thousand Oaks and only occasionally coming back to visit, it's heartwarming to find a warm and welcoming independent coffee shop like Historia Bakery. When in this morning for an expresso over ice with oatmilk. No greeting , no service with a smile. The male individual that took my order was expressionless and cold. I specifically asked if my drink was going to come in a large cup, he replied "yes". Came over and said here you go, was totally unexpressionless/cold. My drink did not come in a large cup instead came in a small/medium cup with very little ice and very little oatmilk. With 3 shots of expresso a larger cup is going to be required, not to mention ICE when expresso is hot. My drink looked like the Yoohoo kids drink and was very warm. Lame employees. In my recent quest for non-corporate coffee, I decided to check out Historia on the suggestion of a friend. I brought a girlfriend along with me, and we were greeted by the owners, a husband and wife team. We asked for suggestions and they made recommendations based on our likes. I had a hot dirty chai and my friend had a white chocolate mocha. I also had a chocolate croissant and at the owners recommendation, got a slice of the ricotta pound cake to go to take home to my husband. We sat outside under the shelter as it was raining. The owners came out to check on us periodically and were incredibly friendly and kind. Everything was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Gotta love supporting small local businesses. This bakery shop always has a pleasant vibe to it. Staff are friendly and service is fairly prompt. The few times that I've been here, I received my goodies within 5-10 minutes. Thus far, I have tried the following... 1. Coffee Crepe Cake (5/5) Super light and chocolatey. The layers of the crepe were fun to slice through with the fork. I intended to eat half only, but it was so good and light, that I ate the whole slice in 1 sitting. 2. Almond Croissant (4.5/5) The croissant was airy and not too dry. The almond and powdered sugar gave it a cooling, refreshing taste. I recommend asking them to warm it up, which I didn't do, so it was slightly more firm than soft 3. Cinnamon crackers (5/5) These are bread/dough scraps that instead of going to waste, are turned into a light and crunchy cinnamon snack. It's not good if you're diabetic or trying to lose weight, but it's a great treat if you have good self-discipline to not overeat. 4. Pretzel Croissant (5/5) OMGee, soo addicting. It has the texture and bitterness of a pretzel, but the softness and butteriness of a croissant. What a brilliant combo. Make sure to get it warmed - this is worth the calories. I have not tried their drinks (which they have a great variety of flavors) because a lot of them are made from artificial flavor syrups, which is just not for me. Stopped in for an iced coffee. Admittedly I am not a coffee connoisseur, I just wanted something not bitter. They made me an iced Americano and it was delicious. Carlos will always greet you with a smile, while making an avocado toast and there are usually some folks hanging out playing chess - yes, Carlos is a chess master, so he has many chess tables, there are also some cute decorative items for sale.
