I am a donut lover and these are the best in the Conejo Valley. They sell out so go early. Love that the sweetness of the yeast donuts isn't too sweet from the dough but from the glazes or toppings. The yeast donuts are super light and fluffy and they must change their oil often because they never taste of gross old oil. The owner (I think he is) is a little shy but once you get to know him he's super nice! Honestly get there early for the best selection because they do sell out! Great fresh donuts, specially in the morning hours where it's coming out fresh. Gotta go before the afternoon before most of the better flavors sell out! People complain about service, it's owned locally by this old guy who asks what you want and that's it. I don't see any issue with that, I don't need him to smile and do a backflip for me. While in the area, I decided to stop in this shop for a donut and coffee treat. I've never actually been to this particular donut shop before. Considering that there are many donut shops all over the place, I thought this place was definitely a cut above most of the others. The donuts were large and quite tasty, and also reasonably priced. The only concern I might express is that this shop does not have any tables inside should you wish to consume your snack right there. Some of the best donuts around! I'm on a mission to try them all in the area lol I don't mind! But seriously, while shopping at Trader Joe's I decided some donuts were necessary afterwards. The place is a little small inside and outside resembled a shop and go, but don't let it deter you. I was absolutely delighted to see two full display cases of amazing looking donuts. Large pastries, cinnamon rolls, donuts, bear claws, apple fritters, you name it they had it. It was so hard to choose what to get! I ended up with a LARGE glazed with sprinkles donut, a French cruller, Boston cream, and a glazed old fashioned. The donuts were so light and fluffy, so flavorful, and very large. We came around 7am and there was a constant flow of people. They seemed to have a lot of regulars that come in. One guy came in and the server immediately knew what he wanted. Back in college, I perversely became a fan of apple fritters with a Diet Pepsi accompaniment. This would be a substitute for breakfast or lunch. Ah, the good old days! It's not been easy to find a source of apple fritters to match up with the memories if the ones in my nostalgic taste buds. Somewhere along the road of living in the Conejo, I discovered Fresh Donuts. Score! They produce flavorful fritters. I've also enjoyed their chocolate old fashioned donuts, loaded with icing. Mmmm. On Thursday evening, after several errand stops that didn't go as planned, I decided that a chocolate-laced sugar fix was in order and cruised in. Had the place to myself, and my order was quickly filled. I enjoyed half of a choc. old fashioned in the car, discovering my capacity for the richness doesn't go as far as it once did. Took the rest home, along with a maple bar for D.H., and a fritter for my breakfast. Sadly, the anticipated fritter treat didn't measure up this time. It was beyond day old status - dry and over cooked. There are way worse problems, but this knocked down the rating. Will still go back in the future, as any place can have a bad day. read more

Lots of classic donut choices. My biggest gripe is that the shop is poorly run. With 3 girls working behind the counter they somehow gave away the wrong donuts to the wrong person - TWICE. I've spent most of my life in Thousand Oaks and have many fond memories of stopping by Fresh Donuts over the years. After being out of the area for a number of years I had a craving for croissants and donuts this Sunday morning and wanted to see if my old stomping ground still had its edge. Boy was I impressed. While parking is a pain in the butt, Fresh Donuts was hopping with customers! I waited a short 2-3 minutes and was taken care of efficiently. I ordered 1 - jalapeño hand and cheese croissant, 1 - ham and cheese croissant, 1 glazed twist, and 1 chocolate glazed twist. They asked if I wanted the croissant warmed up and the answer was "of course"! The croissant was fresh and flavorful, and the jalapeño was actually a little spicy which I thought was really awesome. Split the croissant and chocolate glazed and the donut did not disappoint either! Fresh, not overly sweet, and left me wanting more. I'm going to have to become a regular here! My office has picked up from them regularly and they never disappoint! Yeast donuts are light and soft, cake donuts have a nice crunchy crust on them (but aren't hard/stale like Dunkin Donuts!). "I see you got the big boy." Okay, so it wasn't the way I would have liked this passer-by to have phrased it, but my chocolate chip roll was the size of a small football. I've posted a picture of this honkin' piece of donut, next to my orange juice just to show the sheer donut fortitude, but unfortunately Yelp doesn't let me replace pictures so you're stuck with the unedited version I accidentally uploaded. I don't know why I thought this would be good. When I had more limited experience with Fresh Donuts, I used to say they're a little better than the Vienna Bakery's donuts -- now I'll have to do an exact flip-flop. I've had some donuts here ranging from pretty good to just plain bad, which was what the chocolate chip roll was. The muffins are big and better than they look, but still no comparison to the Vienna Bakery, and certainly not Donut Depot. In this case, the chocolate frosting tasted like everybody else's and the chocolate filling was good -- where you could find it, which was in surprisingly little places. This coincided with my previous experiences with Fresh Donuts, which is that the fillings and frostings are fine and my real problem is the dough. In this case, it was like eating a grocery store's round sandwich roll, only dried out and overcooked to the point of being almost burnt. They have no tables and no bathroom, but two stools with a counter. I usually applaud the counter, but this one is a section of a side too small to be usable. Fortunately, the strip mall itself provides nice benches alongside vertical posts, but then you have no table of any sort. There are an assortment of packaged drinks like Sobe bottles and Coke cans in two coolers, and they have cinnamon rolls that I haven't tried. The giant chocolate chip rolls aren't the only huge creations and cost less than $2, but there's no point in getting a lot of bad taste. They take credit cards, but with a $10 minimum that makes it pointless. The service varies by person, but is surprisingly bad for a donut store and in this case I found it snippy. They do have good hours, but now that reasonably nearby Stan's is 24-hour, there's just no point in going to Fresh Donuts. read more

I hadn't thought much of it until we got outside and my boyfriend brought it to my attention. In the middle of this pandemic food service workers should all be wearing a mask. FRESH DONUTS have the absolute best Chocolate Chip Muffins I have ever had!!! Their Croissants, Almond Cigars and Donuts are also excellent. Everything is so fresh and tasty. I don't know how they do it but everything I've had there is perfect!!! Everyone who works at the family owned business is super nice and friendly. They really aren't very nice, but their donuts, rock my socks, especially their blueberry donuts. They kind of treat you like YOU are bothering them by coming in, and if the kind of donut you want is behind them on a baking sheet but not in display, they won't consider reaching behind them and giving you a fresh one. I can't believe this place has such negative reviews! The donuts are so delicious. I think this was the best Boston cream I've ever had. The dough was very tender and it was stuffed with cream. Local donuts place just off Moorpark Blvd in Thousand Oaks. Dozen donuts is $10.50 which is a little steep for donuts but convenient and tasty. I bought these to take to a buddies house for the USC v. Notre Dame game as a dessert this last Saturday. This place was clean and the employee here was helpful and friendly.
