Waterfront Cajun food in Hawaii during the pandemic. Came here to check out the cajun food. Located across from A-Bay. Fosters's kitchen has a handful of tables outside at the entrance, lots more indoors overlooking the King's Shops' Lake, and a 9 outside right on the lake, where we stayed. Wife ordered the $32 Ahi Stir fry, and I ordered the $25 Cajun Shrimp, and a $4 Shirley Temple. Table outdoors overlooking the lake, beautiful ambiance, while people inside watched sports on the big screen, above the bar. Service is excellent, with steel utensils including a steak knife, and heavy paper napkins. Cajun shrimp pasta looked and smelled wonderful . Loved the penne pasta, the 6 shrimp and the sliced sausage, but the dish was overwhelmed by too much Cajun seasonings. Had to fish out all the bell peppers, the carmelized onions, and mushrooms from the pool of salty and spicy juices on the bottom of the bowl, it was so salty. Gave wife the cherry tomatoes. The Szechuan ahi is served on a bed of white rice with stir fried seasonal veggies with seaweed salad and sesame seeds. Wife loved the ahi seared medium rare, but again didn't care for the heavy teriyaki sauce on the bottom of the bowl. Rescued the soaked zucchini from the teriyaki sauce. Left about half the white rice in the pool of teriyaki sauce on bottom. Based on my experience with the Cajun shrimp pasta, good thing I didn't try their gumbo soup or shrimp grits, which I've loved in New Orleans. read more

There were leaves falling on my family and I every two seconds. There was a bird that pooped in my brother's drink while we were eating. My mother's food was raw and she might be sick from it. We waited an hour for our appetizer. Terrible service. Terrible seating. We bonded with the table next to us because of how bad the restaurant was. This place is so underrated! It's rare that a place is so good, that even the veggies wow me. Fosters kitchen achieved just that. Both my husband and I enjoyed the food very much. We came in for dinner last week and weren't very impressed. We got the whipped ricotta bruschetta and the stuff chicken. The bruschetta had the thinned layer of ricotta and the chicken was not great. We enjoyed this place - so much so we came back for a second night. The prices were right and the food was very good - an excellent value, especially for Waikoloa. We had hush puppies with honey butter, fried green tomatoes, whipped goat cheese bruschetta, cornmeal-dusted fried pork chops, steakhouse pasta, tomato bisque, keiki hamburger, keiki grilled chicken, ahi stir fry, and cajun shrimp pasta. Everything was delicious, though I definitely preferred my cajun shrimp pasta (night 2) to the ahi stir fry (night 1). All our drinks were fantastic - I am not a huge Moscow Mule fan, but theirs was spectacular. Maybe because it's not a typical mule at all. Captain Morgan and amaretto really set it apart. If you have kids, their keiki menu prices CANNOT be beat. $3.50 for under-12s, $7 for over. THREE FIFTY. Holy cats! And the french fries are A++. You can opt for fruit, too, but the fries... well, let's just say parents gotta charge a fry tax. The only down side was an interminable wait for dessert the first night. Like, 30-40 minutes. We ordered the banana pudding (one for here and one to go) and ice cream for the kiddo, and it took forever. The manager told us they had new staff and that was the reason for the delay, but the next night seemed fine. They were out of lilikoi cheesecake that night, but we did get to try it on night 2. It was good - a very light no-bake texture, which is not my preference, but it still tasted fresh and fruity. At first I thought this was gonna be an amazing night. well no. it was extremely windy. Also a savage bird pooped in my brothers drink while he was gone. it was absolutely disgusting I was horrified. it was like the bird positioned himself to do it. Also my moms fish tacos weren't cooked all the way. If we were inside I think I would've enjoyed it but inside was full so I get that. I'm not mad about that. Also it took like 40 minutes to get our food. The waiters all looked very stressed. And the food was awful. Putting this on my never again list. read more

Excellent Service from Azure who was very attentive and sweet. Great seating, loved seeing the water. The food was very good!

Good food. However small portions were there which was sad. Thankfully our waiter brought more fries cause she switched sides on our dishes, so that was good. The sandwich was the largest portion of anything I think. read more

I came here with my grandmas. We orders the bruschetta, stuffed mushrooms with garlic bread, and fish tacos. The bruschetta was great. The tomato, basil, balsamic was a great combo. It comes with five pieces. The stuffed mushrooms was decent. It comes with sauce and cheese on top. You can easily split it between 2-4 people. Anymore and everyone gets one bite only. The fish tacos were...average at best. The fish didn't have much flavor so the rest of it was the same. I would recommend be prepared to get more because you will be hungry at the end. read more

Stopped on the way home from Kona for a light meal. First visit and looking forward to checking the place out. It was a nice warm evening so we sat outside. Live music from across the courtyard added to the visit. Very friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. I ordered the fish and chips, my companion had the Thai chicken salad. Portions were generous and the fish was nicely done, no complaints. The Thai sauce on the salad was a flavor treat and my companion got an extra helping for the salad. Moms fish and chips were breaded with some random looking/tasting breading as other photos show - too dry and not good. We ate here twice while in Hawaii last week. The drinks had to be sent back both times- it seems the Pina colada mix might have gone bad. The food was good- not something to write home about but certainly reasonable priced, expedient and adequate service. We came in for a 70th birthday party for our grandma! There were 32 of us, including grandkids of all ages. The staff at Foster's was welcoming, accommodating, and very patient with our large group. The service was fast and excellent. The food was delicious. They moved tables around to accommodate our large group and were very professional and kind. Danny was especially good to us. Arrived at 630pm Sunday evening and waited outside as requested by sign on door to be seated. A few minutes later hostess arrived and seated us inside by window. No menus. Waited 8- 10 minutes and no one gave us menus or water or acknowledged us. We left. Disappointing as menu looked good and ambience seemed nice. I understand staffing and being short staffed - if that was the issue- I don't understand not being greeted and given menus. Hostess was doing double duty seating and bussing tables. Family vacation to HI a few weeks ago. We stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa and wanted to get off the resort for dinner a few times. Foster's popped up and looked good, and it was just a few minute drive. And we were not disappointed. The hosts and waitstaff were wonderful. Polite Professional. Attentive. Nice selection on the menu and our family of 4 had 4 very different things. All really good. The food arrived in a decent amount of time, which we found can be an issue at HI resort areas nowadays. We sat outside as that's all they had available and that day happened to be the windiest on record (maybe not, but it was hella windy). Our first table was in what seemed like a wind tunnel so we quickly asked to move to a table with a bit more cover. That was much better, and, again the staff handled it well. Definitely recommend for a nice meal in the area, especially if you simply want to get off the resort for something a bit different. read more

Restaurant can't handle a rush. manger is irresponsible doesn't care about ur experience just your buck. there's isn't a daily catch went the day before was amazing but they had the same fish. service is good. food is nasty jus thrown together don't expect this place to stay open. guacamole isn't fresh they had to remake my plate and somehow it came out worse lol. cooks will mess with ur food. read more

We ate here last week while we were on spring break and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was after being under-whelmed at a few other restaurants. We had the fish tacos, ahi stir fry and shrimp Cobb and there wasn't a morsel of food left on our plates. Our server Adrian was great he had so many tables and was constantly running around with a smile on his face. They ran out of the bananas foster but the chef hand delivered another desert to our table instead and was very good. Give it a try if you are in Waikoloa! read more

For starters, the hostess was very friendly and the waitress as well - we were optimistic for a decent experience at first. However, we grew concerned when basic fountain drinks (not cocktails) took 15 mins to arrive. Our food arrived about 30 mins after we ordered it - and was not worth the wait at all. Cold or lukewarm food, overcooked chicken and undercooked pasta, the greasiest mac n cheese we have ever seen, never offered drink refills... we could go on. None of us could believe how bad the food was... we aren't picky eaters and are perfectly happy at diners and dive bars, but this here was really something. Ordered food online to be picked up at specific time. It was our first night, exhausted from travel wanting some yummy food. Unfortunately order started being prepped when we arrived at pickup time. Manager (believe it was him as he was dressed differently than wait staff) didn't give a care as he knew order was not ready. They had us wait 20 mins past time order was to be ready. We get back to hotel to realize they did not give us the full order and missing sauces for the hush puppies which without the sauces were not good at all. They were not short staffed since the waitress had time to come hang out with her boyfriend instead of making sure our food was ready. She made sure he was given a cold drink while she sat to chat with him. WTF?!? Do not recommend and won't be going back. read more

First of all the food is overpriced and bad quality. The appetizers were decent but the entrees were disappointing. A few of us ordered grilled cheese with tomato soup . The waitress came back and told us that they ran out of soup so we settled for only the grilled cheese. First of all, the sandwich had no cheese and no grilled onion as advertised. We sent them back and they came back equally bad. The bread was burnt and again there was no cheese. The waitress was awesome and she was excellent. Visited on 11/14/2024. Had reservations for 7 pm and was seated shortly after arrival. Started to get a hint of short staffing as the hostess had to leave her post to clear a table in order to seat another party. No bus staff visible. Sat at the table for about 15 minutes before a server came for a drink order. During that wait time we saw that there were only two servers for the entire dining area, and one appeared to also be serving the outdoor tables as well. Drinks and appetizers took 20 minutes to arrive. After noticing what appeared to be short staffing, we ordered the dinners before the appetizers arrived. While ordering, we found that they were already out of the desired stuffed chicken entree. The two dinner entrees arrived 31 minutes after the appetizers. One entree was luke warm at best and clearly had been sitting for some time. The other entree was good to go. The luke warm entree was refused and sent back. The server came by twice to advise that the kitchen was working on it. The replacement meal arrived 15 minutes later, just as my wife was finishing her meal. Watching each other eat dinner is not a good scenario for an evening out! The server was pleasant and apologetic. She advised that the kitchen had run out of seven items on the menu. We were not charged for the meal that had to be replaced. It appears that the management needs to work on improving staffing, to include servers, bussers, and kitchen staff. As we waited for various parts of the meal, we clearly could see other tables waiting as well. It also seems that management needs to pay better attention to maintaining food stock ordering. To run out of seven, easy to produce, menu items in one evening points to poor inventory control and ordering. Overall, a poor dining experience! We will not be back! read more

Finally gave them another chance. The staff is lovely and very kind. Too bad they're serving such terrible food. Firecracker Chicken Wings were approaching inedible. Basically Fried Chicken ligaments with no flavor. So disgusting. Should have sent back. Fish Tacos were so forgettable. Taco Bell makes a more coherent Taco. There was barely any fish, and what was there was overpowered by the sour cream and guac haphazardly squirted everywhere. Save yourself, and go to LavaLava.
