We have been here in the past with our friends and have always loved the atmosphere and service. Our last visit was outstanding because of our server Alex. She has a great personality, was extremely attentive, and had some excellent recommendations. The Manager (Lane sp?), has been here for each of our current visits & she is also very sweet & helpful. I went to this restaurant last night for dinner. They were busy it was just me so I approached the bar asked if it was open seating and full service. The bartender answered with if you can find an open seat. I did, understood they were busy and browsed the menu. I waited 30 minutes with no interaction. The four people next to me finished eating and left. The bartender cleared there spots. Asked if I was ready to order. I said I was but asked what the catch of the day was. He went to the food window came back told me it was ono then proceeded to walk away and empty the dish washer. I asked him if he was going to take my order his response was he's busy. Which at that time I stated he could atleast take my drink order or place my food order then go back to emptying the dish washer. His response was aren't you just waiting for a table. I answered no why would I ask if the bar was full service if I didn't plan to eat at the bar. He continued to clear the dishes of others. I finally got frustrated and asked if he was going to serve me? His answer was have a nice day. As I was leaving I informed the manager I was refused service and she seemed to not care. I was so excited to bring my friends to Foster's Kitchen! We live on Oahu and have been to the location in Kona many times, so was pleased to find out that there was also one in Waikoloa. We arrived on the late side, a bit before 8:30pm and were seated on the back patio in Omar's section. We weren't greeted for about 15 minutes and instead got to listen to Omar moan and complain about how he didn't want to take us. To put it lightly, he threw a tantrum. For all of us to watch and hear. I wouldn't typically call out a specific name, but the behavior was extremely unprofessional and needs to be addressed. This could be a nice little reminder that the restaurant is designed with clear windows & open doors which give a great viewing arena for guests. Although our experience did NOT start off on the right food, the other staff members redeemed our visit. The hostess was sweet and checked on us during the debacle. We could see her embarrassment that we had not yet been helped. I wish I caught her name. Then our server, Amber stepped up and took our table, which we are grateful for because she was awesome. She provided great service & was very apologetic. She was efficient and just friendly and welcoming enough, without being overbearing. We hope to visit her again before our trip is over. I am rating this review on her service and our overall experience, since we can tell that this is how Fosters Kitchen is typically run. Let's talk food. Everything was good. Some was great. The crab cakes for example, were absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, they didn't come with a free refill (joke) but would next time order this as my meal with a salad. Super meaty and flavorful. We also started with the fried green tomatoes, but they were just okay. A bit plain for our liking. Entrees; The blackened shrimp cobb salad was really good! Fresh with beautiful, perfectly cooked shrimp! My husband got the country fried chicken and he devoured it within minutes. There is so much on the menu that looked amazing! We came for dinner and saw a good selection, so we decided to try. As with all restaurants here, they're only allowed 50% capacity so there's a wait for seating. They're pretty efficient and gives you time to walk around the shops in the center. The nice hostess sat us down and our friendly server explained the menu and specials. She explained that they make most of the sauce in-house instead of buying them. We opted for the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and fries. The bun was airy and flattened when I picked up the sandwich. The chicken was breaded but didn't have much of a crunch. It came with sliced onion, lettuce, tomato, and bacon---and a spear of pickle on the side. Tasted like a normal chicken sandwich. Not bad, but nothing special. The fries were made from fresh potatoes (like In-N-Out), so they're on the softer side. I'll be honest and say that the Stuffed Chicken looked weird. It had a large goop of gravy covering it. There was a circle of green sauce around the plate. We couldn't figure out what it was. It was a bit bland and had a taste of raw flour. We ordered Goat Cheese Bruschetta, crab cakes, seafood pesto puff pastry, Chardonnay garlic calamari, candied bacon chicken club, and blackened shrimp and grits. I feel so bad saying this but I couldn't even eat what I ordered.. the shrimp and grits.. it was so salty. I am not one to normally say that but everyone at my table tried my food and agreed it was bad.. inedible bad. The shrimp was also over cooked so very rubbery. My friend said the chicken bacon club and the crab cakes tasted average, nothing special. The calamari was pretty good and was very tender. The pesto seafood puff pasty was delicious although very oily. At times I was wondering if it was fully cooked on the bottom but didn't bother me too much... it was pretty chewy though especially for puff pastry. Fosters's kitchen has a handful of tables outside at the entrance, lots more indoors overlooking the King's Shops' Lake, and a 9 outside right on the lake, where we stayed. Wife ordered the $32 Ahi Stir fry, and I ordered the $25 Cajun Shrimp, and a $4 Shirley Temple. Table outdoors overlooking the lake, beautiful ambiance, while people inside watched sports on the big screen, above the bar. Service is excellent, with steel utensils including a steak knife, and heavy paper napkins. Cajun shrimp pasta looked and smelled wonderful . Loved the penne pasta, the 6 shrimp and the sliced sausage, but the dish was overwhelmed by too much Cajun seasonings. Had to fish out all the bell peppers, the carmelized onions, and mushrooms from the pool of salty and spicy juices on the bottom of the bowl, it was so salty. Gave wife the cherry tomatoes. The Szechuan ahi is served on a bed of white rice with stir fried seasonal veggies with seaweed salad and sesame seeds. Wife loved the ahi seared medium rare, but again didn't care for the heavy teriyaki sauce on the bottom of the bowl. Rescued the soaked zucchini from the teriyaki sauce. Left about half the white rice in the pool of teriyaki sauce on bottom. Based on my experience with the Cajun shrimp pasta, good thing I didn't try their gumbo soup or shrimp grits, which I've loved in New Orleans. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday. The fish tacos were really some of the best fish tacos I have had in a long time, be sure to ask for some of the local hot sauces to go with the tacos. The blackened fish sandwich with fries were great as well. It's pretty obvious the kitchen staff takes some pride on the product going on the plate. Service was pretty good through our entrees being delivered to the table. (1.5 hours pass trying to entertain a toddler while we wait outside the restaurant) We sit down (20 min go by) We order after flagging somebody down because said toddler is restless AF and by this point needs to go to bed. There's not enough Paw Patrol in the world. The man takes 9 people's dinner and drink orders WITHOUT WRITING IT DOWN (red flag). We joke about how the likelihood of him getting this right would be nearly impossible or he has the most impressive memory. 4 of 9 drinks arrive (20 minutes pass) I flag him down again. He says the system is wonky. Delivers remaining drinks (1hours passes) Our waiter tells us that all of our food WAS NOT INPUT INTO THE SYSTEM so has not been made. He says he will rush toddler's food and we ask for it to go. Food arrives 20 min later. They comped desserts but we didn't get one because we had to leave. Sigh. And SURPRISE. The food was delicious! But good gracious was the service was the worst I've experienced in years. read more

We enjoyed this place - so much so we came back for a second night. The prices were right and the food was very good - an excellent value, especially for Waikoloa. We had hush puppies with honey butter, fried green tomatoes, whipped goat cheese bruschetta, cornmeal-dusted fried pork chops, steakhouse pasta, tomato bisque, keiki hamburger, keiki grilled chicken, ahi stir fry, and cajun shrimp pasta. Everything was delicious, though I definitely preferred my cajun shrimp pasta (night 2) to the ahi stir fry (night 1). All our drinks were fantastic - I am not a huge Moscow Mule fan, but theirs was spectacular. Maybe because it's not a typical mule at all. Captain Morgan and amaretto really set it apart. If you have kids, their keiki menu prices CANNOT be beat. $3.50 for under-12s, $7 for over. THREE FIFTY. Holy cats! And the french fries are A++. You can opt for fruit, too, but the fries... well, let's just say parents gotta charge a fry tax. The only down side was an interminable wait for dessert the first night. Like, 30-40 minutes. We ordered the banana pudding (one for here and one to go) and ice cream for the kiddo, and it took forever. The manager told us they had new staff and that was the reason for the delay, but the next night seemed fine. They were out of lilikoi cheesecake that night, but we did get to try it on night 2. It was good - a very light no-bake texture, which is not my preference, but it still tasted fresh and fruity. Indoor and outdoor seating, but we opted for indoor because vaccinations and also gusty trades. Reserving online was easy-peasy and we reserved our return trip at the host stand. read more

There were leaves falling on my family and I every two seconds. There was a bird that pooped in my brother's drink while we were eating. My mother's food was raw and she might be sick from it. I came here with my grandmas. We orders the bruschetta, stuffed mushrooms with garlic bread, and fish tacos. The bruschetta was great. The tomato, basil, balsamic was a great combo. It comes with five pieces. The stuffed mushrooms was decent. It comes with sauce and cheese on top. You can easily split it between 2-4 people. Anymore and everyone gets one bite only.
