A friend of mine suggested I try the pizza here when I was complaining about a pizza I got at a competitor because it was so Light on the cheese. Well, I'm glad I took his advice and gave Founaris a try. When the young lady who retrieved my pizza from the kitchen brought it out, she opened the box and all I could say was "that's beautiful!" I couldn't wait to try it. My order was "to go," so I can't comment on the service in the dining room, but I will say the team working the to go area was polite, professional, and efficient. What a find! They have pasta, pizza, and Greek food! We had the gyro eggrolls and the smothered pizza. There was so much meat! Everything tasted so good and so did the tzatziki sauce! Based on Yelp reviews and proximity we decided to try Founaris, as opposed to driving all the way to Taste of Jerusalem. The nice think here is that there are Italian options in addition to Greek/Mediterranean. I ordered Veal Parmesan. It was pretty good. The hummus, as well as the Gyro Sandwich were not as good as my meal. The service was lacking, more specifically the waitress was anything but friendly. Didn't ask if we needed things, I had to wave her down. It wasn't overly busy, but it was pretty steady, so she was constantly moving. The place was clean for the most part. Founaris Bros is consistently good. This probably one the best place to get a gyro sandwich in Pensacola. I usually get the small Greek salad with Gyro for my usual low carb option. Today I was intrigued by the soup of the day "chili gyro", so I ordered the soup and salad (Greek salad with Gyro and Gyro Chili). The Gyro chili interestingly satisfying. I had only the most basic of food: a lunch special of spaghetti with marinara, garlic bread, and a side salad with Greek vinaigrette. My husband had lasagna. Tossed salad is what you'd expect. The vinaigrette had good flavor but was exceptionally watery so most of it pooled in the bowl rather than clinging to the lettuce. Garlic bread at least had garlic, was a bit soft o the outside and crisp on the top--not bad, but nothing elevated. Spaghetti marinara was fine, but the noodles were very soft and a bit wet. I could do with a bit more sauce, especially given the dryness of the bread (I didn't have quite enough to dip it in). He rated his lasagna 6 to 6.5, a couple points lower than Maggiano's and considerably less than his favorite family Italian restaurant. Service was okay. The waitress never picked up our empty plates or trash though. Atmosphere was fine. It's an older building with 8' popcorn ceilings and ceiling fans, which makes it feel a bit like someone's house. Not bad, not special. Prices were more than I'd expected based on what I'd been told by those who raved about it, but the lunch prices were fair and I guess it's hard to beat $8.99 for a full meal, even if it's plain spaghetti (no meat or toppings). Maybe when the economy's a bit better and our personal finances allow I'll come back and try some of the other offerings, but it might be difficult given the relative lack of vegetarian offerings. We were expecting some good Greek food here and were so disappointed! How can there be a Greek joint with out flaming cheese? The ravioli was burnt on the bottom making that part inedible. I tried to consider other Greek restaurants in the P-cola area and, after checking out their websites and menus, here I am again ... at Founaris Brothers Greek. The reality is that there is about as much Italian food, in terms of pizzas and pastas to choose from, on their menu. If you are looking at other Greek-Mediterranean places in this areas, and I did this time, shawarma and falafel are not typical Greek items. I like them, but they are more likely to be found at Middle Eastern eateries, also often termed Mediterranean. The Greek menu items at Founaris are the traditional Greek ones. The restaurant is large enough to where people can spread out in different areas. The service was attentive. I got my soft drink right away and the food was prepared reasonably quickly. I like that they have their lunch specials and I got the combination with the shaved gyro meat, tzatziki sauce, and a salad. I also ordered a side of potatoes. While not french fries, the potatoes are larger wedges and they are prepared much like fries but seasoned a little differently. They were good. However, I'd easily give them that 5th star if they added the more typical Greek roasted or baked potato slices drizzled with lemon. You can't beat it when your braised Greek meats, some pita bread, a salad, and those traditional Greek lemon potatoes are all there on your table at the same time! The meal, eaten a few hours past noon, was filling and a good value. This would then reduce how much I ate for dinner. What a combination of things Founaris Brothers is: a Greek restaurant with Italian options in a part of Florida that is definitely the South and sitting a short distance south of transcontinental I-10, but not that far south on Pensacola Blvd. that you're sitting in the thick of all the car dealerships and chain motels. The gyro platter has a very generous serving of meat, with some of the best pita bread on the planet. An incredible deal for $10. I add an order of fry's and no way I can eat it all.
