    Iced Banana Latte
    Juhi T.

I was in the area for work and decided to try Foundation Coffee. It's very oddly located - on the back of the Fair Oaks Mall, so you just have to keep rounding corners where the loading dock is... truly hidden! It has a great ambience though. There were a lot of people quietly working there with their laptops, so it's clearly a great place to setup for your workday. Very clean and calm, easy to order. Not a huge selection of pastries. I ordered the sausage egg and cheese bagel with no meat and the banana latte. It came out to $15... a bit pricey. The banana latte was way too sweet for me unfortunately and I couldn't finish the drink. The egg and cheese bagel was good - specifically, the mayo they add brings some good flavor and the bagel was perfectly toasted. I would love to come back and try to order another coffee drink to try that hopefully won't be as sweet. Will update my review then!

A quiet cafe with great coffee and friendly staff. I first went to the main parking lot of the mall following my phone navigation, but this spot is actually only accessible from the back, making it a true hidden gem. They offer unique scones along with a nice variety of coffee drinks. I had a cappuccino that was delicate, creamy, and fragrant. Many people were working on laptops rather than chatting, so it felt like an ideal place to focus and get things done. The space is also pretty roomy, which adds to the comfortable atmosphere.

The location is in the back of the Fairfax city mall center! Like the loading dock area. It's quiet in here! Haha. There were lots of people studying and working and I think they even have a separate conference type room. But lots of group tables and the coffee area is in the center. Staff were very friendly although I had trouble finding it and no one answered the phone when I called but it's fine. I had the cranberry scone which was good and also a chai latte which was delicious. Not a whole host of treats to choose from but if you're coming for tea or coffee then sure. They have drip coffee I believe and they do have a small fridge with orange juice and Coca Cola.

Foundation Coffee Roasters is a gem! The spacious layout gives you plenty of room to relax, work, or catch up with friends without feeling cramped. The cafe is not overly loud so this would be a great place to catch up with friends or take meetings! The vibe is casual yet refined, perfect for anyone who loves a laid-back cafe environment with just the right balance of cozy and modern. I am always on the hunt for cafes that expand outside of just coffee, but numerous friends have said the coffee is worth trying! The service is quick and the folks there are willing to answer questions about their menu!

This place is a hidden gem in Fairfax. Perfect place to hang out with friends or to study/work. Warm, clean, and modern atmosphere. An excellent yet simple menu of coffee with a selection of pastries. The owners of the shop are personable, welcoming, and kind.

I am a little frustrated. I have been to this shopping plaza countless times.... Never knew there was a coffee spot. It is literally hiding behind all the stores! There are no signs anywhere to let you know a hidden gem is back there!!! I just happened to be in the area and looked up coffee.... The amount of random ppl creepily walking around empty back lot of stores!!! And the parking lot was filled! Every seat was taken... how the heck do ppl know about this place!!! I do wish there was signs, we would have come sooner.... But I guess you feel like you're part of a secret knowing it's there! Stocked with pastries, cakes and cheesecake... order the Oreo scone, it's life changing. Small coffee menu but all the basics are there, with a little bit of Asian flair. Staff is full of smiles, even while running around busy. Great spot, highly recommend checking it out!!! Tell your friends.

They didn't have the typical options you would have at the more commercialized places but I can see why, their COFFEE IS REALLY GOOD. I ordered a latte with oatmilk only, and I was quite surprised. If you're a coffee snob - try this place. Definitely visiting next time I'm in VA/DC area. Enjoy!

Foundation Coffee Roaster is such a hidden gem! Tucked away but absolutely worth finding. It's located in the back of the main buildings. The space is perfect for coworking -- lots of natural light, comfortable seating, and a calm atmosphere that makes it easy to focus. Coffee-wise, their beans lean on the lighter side with a noticeable acidity. If you enjoy brighter flavor profiles, you'll love it.

I really enjoyed the iced vanilla latte and the chocolate croissant here. The had a number of really nice looking pasties to choose from, the quality of the espresso was great, and the latte was not overly sweet. I give the sandwich 3.5/5. I heated it up in my air fryer to get it crispy and that made it much better. I would definitely go back for the coffee and pasties and maybe some other food item. The inside of the cafe is very minimal and quiet. There is space of eat, chill, or work.

Bagel Confit, Vanilla Latte, Ices Chai

I love Foundation! I felt the vanilla latte was the perfect amount of sweetness. My friend enjoyed his iced chai very much. I got a bagel confit (I think I may have the name a bit wrong) which was yummy. It's a bagel with cream cheese plus a tomato and garlic spread. Then, it seems the bagel is pressed in a panini-type way. The cafe is always neat and clean. The service is great and they give you pagers, so you know when your food is ready.

Banana latte was delicious! Not too sweet which was nice. I wish I could've had it hot but they only make an iced version. Inside is very spacious with plenty of seating.

The espresso was so well balanced-it didn't need anything added to it. Scones and cookies were delicious.

Ask the Community - Foundation Coffee Roasters

Is the group study room in the back, first come-first serve? Or will you need to make prior arrangements?

Hi Johnny, thanks for your inquiry. Our conference room is a space for our employee use (coffee cupping, working on materials, etc).…

Where can I locate a full menu ? I didn't see it on the website . Nor did I see a link for menu on yelp . I tried calling but kept getting a voicemail. Thank you for your…

Hi, there is a picture of our menu posted on our Yelp site. Our pastries are often rotated because they are all baked daily (that is why we don't have a fixed menu). In addition to the drinks and pastries, we also sell coffee whole beans we roast…

Do they offer decaf roasts? If so, how many, and what are the origins/flavor profiles?

Yes, we now offer decaf Ethiopia MC Blend. Flavor note consists of bakers chocolate and cherry.

Parked a couple blocks down and walked over, but otherwise you should be able to find a spot no problem. The baristas were super friendly and patient with us while we looked over the menu. My friend got the (Real!) strawberry match and I got the banana cream matcha. Both were super delicious! The strawberry did taste very fresh and real, and the banana was the perfect sweet treat to satisfy my craving. Overall, I will definitely be back and would recommend to anybody in the area.

I've been looking for a strawberry matcha that has a creamy rich texture, with the perfect ratio of strawberry and matcha. I do appreciate the fact that they use real strawberry puree, but it didn't taste balanced to me. My husband got the mocha forest matcha, it was alright. I wasn't a huge fan of either drinks. I also felt the matcha wasn't ceremonial grade. It had that weird Starbucks fishy taste to it. We ordered breakfast as well- the breakfast indeed tasted homemade but not the kind that wowed me. More like okay wonder bread and some protein. Nothing that stood out or tasted unique. I left wishing I had spent the money elsewhere. Overall, I don't live close to this location so I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but if invited I wouldn't be opposed. It's a tiny spot with few seats and a shared small parking lot. It's better for to go orders. Casual ambiance.

I got the savory pie that was stuffed with an unctuous gumbo filling made with creole spices, the holy trinity (onions, peppers, and celery), and a generous portion of chicken. The pie pastry had a perfect flaky crumb that held the filling together. A friend had their breakfast sandwich, which had a rustic and delightful tang from the inclusion of sourdough in the biscuit batter that paired well with the thick slab of egg and crispy bacon. Incredibly savory items. I'm always gravitated towards how well a cafe can do a savory menu and this exceed my expectations. Friends I came in with who got their coffee said that it was very delicious, and the baristas can make a beautiful frothy and rich matcha latte. Its both parts technical skills to pull coffee or whisk matcha and sourcing of high-quality ingredients. Drinks make up a large part of any cafe, so to do it well here in this neighborhood cafe is exceptional. The baristas are running that place like a tight ship! Tip well!
