Located behind the Fair City shopping center is a lovely, quaint coffeeshop known as Foundation Coffee Roasters. With plenty of open and spacious seating, its a great place to sit back, enough some coffee and food, and just work, read a book, or even relax. Food wise, the pastries are delicious. Not overly sweet as they may appear, but can absolutely fill a sweet craving. The coffee was quite tasty and delightful. The staff is friendly and attentive to each patron. First, you'll have to find it! Foundation Coffee is located behind Home Goods and DFW in the loading docks zone of the plaza. This is the only entrance. After being led astray by other navigation apps we finally found it thanks to Google Maps. The cafe is spacious with high ceilings, lots of tables and counter space for dining in (even a small private dining area for lunch meetings) and a modern industrial vibe with wood and metal fittings. The food and coffee are incredible and will keep me coming back for sure. I tried the seasonal maple cinnamon latte and have to say it is probably the best maple latte I've ever had. Rich, redolent of maple syrup, yet not overly sweet, with just a touch of cinnamon on the finish. So good! Since it was lunch time, I also had their signature BLT, which features delicious thick cut bacon and is served on a soft warm bread roll. Easily topping most of the BLT offerings locally imo. As if that's not enough, there are a wide array of pastries to choose from if you're looking for something sweet and snackish. I had the strawberry scone and, while I'm not sure I'd call it a scone, it is definitely delicious! Think extra buttery biscuit with a strawberry pie center filling - fabulous! Service is friendly and efficient. When you order you're given a buzzer which will go off when your order is ready so you don't have to do that awkward standing around waiting thing. Do ask about seasonal specialties, I would've have had the maple latte if I hadn't asked and it was so worth it! I was in the area for work and decided to try Foundation Coffee. It's very oddly located - on the back of the Fair Oaks Mall, so you just have to keep rounding corners where the loading dock is... truly hidden! It has a great ambience though. There were a lot of people quietly working there with their laptops, so it's clearly a great place to setup for your workday. Very clean and calm, easy to order. Not a huge selection of pastries. I ordered the sausage egg and cheese bagel with no meat and the banana latte. It came out to $15... a bit pricey. The banana latte was way too sweet for me unfortunately and I couldn't finish the drink. The egg and cheese bagel was good - specifically, the mayo they add brings some good flavor and the bagel was perfectly toasted. I first went to the main parking lot of the mall following my phone navigation, but this spot is actually only accessible from the back, making it a true hidden gem. The location is in the back of the Fairfax city mall center! Like the loading dock area. It's quiet in here! Haha. There were lots of people studying and working and I think they even have a separate conference type room. But lots of group tables and the coffee area is in the center. Staff were very friendly although I had trouble finding it and no one answered the phone when I called but it's fine. I had the cranberry scone which was good and also a chai latte which was delicious. Not a whole host of treats to choose from but if you're coming for tea or coffee then sure. The had a number of really nice looking pasties to choose from, the quality of the espresso was great, and the latte was not overly sweet. I give the sandwich 3.5/5. I was looking for a coffee shop to meet up with a friend, and I hadn't been here before! It has an interesting location, so make sure to check the maps before heading here. The space is large, and the area by the windows lets in a lot of light; there is a lot of different seating surrounding the coffee bar in the middle of the space. The free wifi makes it a great work cafe! There are a couple of pastries offered here as well (mostly cakes when I visited). This is one of my favorite cafes in Fairfax. I brought several of my friends and they all loved it! My recommendations are their scones and basque cheese cakes...! Service is nice and quick. I have been to Foundation Coffee Roasters a few times over several years and while it's not a bad coffee shop, it doesn't really stand out either. Located on the back of Fair City Mall, they have fairly good parking and offer quite a spacious interior. Most of the times I've visited, seating is occupied by people on their laptops. I usually get a latte and some pastry. Their lattes have been hit or miss, and do leave a slight bitter aftertaste. The pastries are alright, but not a must. Last time I went there, they were giving pagers to customers but then when the order was ready, they were just yelling the drink name so I saw a lot of people being confused. The strawberry matcha is good but a bit sweet -- and I think the matcha could be punchier/stronger or just a larger amount of it. I got here a few min after 8:30am; parking is behind the shopping center, as this is located on the back side whether other businesses have their loading docks (not too hard to find, it was just blocked by construction vans and signs). There was only a few people in here at the time and I was promptly greeted and someone was ready and waiting for my order. Some people came in to eat, catch up with a loved one and leave with 30 min, but most people come in to get work done. By 10am the place was completely packed! It remained busy through the lunch hour as well. Upon arrival: I ordered a hot hibiscus tea and chocolate croissant. The hibiscus tea remained hot for over 45 min in the paper cup, and the chocolate croissant was nice (not super flaky, but the chocolate was luscious and silky). Lunch: I ordered a basil and cheese pastry and a iced vanilla latte. The basil pastry was alright, but the sauce tasted sweet almost? It wasn't bad, it was just a bit odd. The iced vanilla latte was nice, I didn't need to add any additional sugar. Wi-Fi here is alright, and the seats aren't the most comfortable. The tables on the bottom have chairs with back support, but near the counter the step seating and upstairs the bar seats dont have support. The music isn't super loud so it's a great place to work/read/study if you don't intend on being here longer than a couple hours. There are plenty of outlets. Overall: Nice place, I would come again! Pastries are alright and nothing special, drinks are decent and on par with other places in the area. They accept Apple Pay, offer to heat up the food, and service is quick. I love their coffee. They make the best latte in the area imo. Their pastries are also good but they need to do better job with their labeling! It is my second time getting the wrong cookie. Last time I was there they had 4 kinds of cookies on their counter - which peanut butter and cranberry/walnut labels were mixed. The employee at the register handed me cranberry/walnut cookie instead of the peanut butter one even though I had doubt because of the color difference I took it anyway taking the chance. This time they had matcha and peanut butter out. I had thought there is no way this is a wrong cookie so I purchased what they claimed peanut butter. So I took a bite in the car and I thought hm it doesn't taste like the peanut butter I tasted but ate anyway. After few more bites I knew this was again the cranberry/walnut!!! By this time I am kind of getting tired of this cookie. Please do better job with your labels. I take a seat to get my things in order and send out an urgent email before going to order a coffee. I see her continuously staring at me. Overall, my review below: * Iffy wifi if there's heavy traffic & it's busy * OK pastries that are probably better when they're first made in the morning. You can ASK for it to be warmed if you come mid day but that's not always explicitly mentioned * Good coffee, location, & friendly workers (at least as much as they can be in the minimal interactions they would have with customers) * Great atmosphere for leisurely working/studying - meaning, if you need to be serious or have a meeting, it's still loud Wouldn't quite run back since I'm further out but would come again on a day or time I have absolutely no meetings. Love this place. Very friendly employees and great unorthodox approach. Here you can sit with WiFi, in what could be described as a row of stairs. Absolutely cool! It's behind Fair City Mall, which is admittedly strange. Quirky and lots of nice folks. Good place for dates. Also a place to relax. They have all kinds of coffees and teas. I believe all of them are of high quality. These are better than the two giants, that claim they are the titans of coffee. By all means go in here. I love coffee so I'm always looking for a new shop to try. I ordered an iced caramel latte. The latte had entirely too much milk in it, I personally like espresso with my milk lol. Seriously though, it just had too much milk, I know another shot of espresso would balance it out. Service was ok, the staff members were busy, I went on a Saturday afternoon and the shop was full with people, it is very spacious but very full at the time. It's a nice coffee shop, I like the size and how they give you a buzzer to let you know when your order is ready.
