CONCEPT: The concept is an Asian-style inexpensive hotel in center of Flushing, Queens, NYC. EXPERIENCE: I had decided to try taking an early morning direct flight out of LGA with an overnight stay the night before, at same total expense as departure day indirect flight from Connecticut's Bradley airport. I took trains to reach the hotel, which added time, but avoided parking fees and traffic. I appreciated the low cost of the hotel and service, but all the more the ability to be situated in a location surrounded by authentic Asian (mostly Chinese) restaurants at far lower prices than Manhattan. I enjoyed exploring two, and made note of others in the future. I could see spending a weekend here with husband just for the Chinese restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores! Breakfast is included and served in a glass enclosed dining room. Although Western options are offered, I appreciated the Congee with traditional toppings and a variety of filled steamed buns as part of the Asiatic Hotel experience. In the end this was a far more fun and flexible experience than taking a longer and potentially winter weather-impacted indirect flight to my destination. TIPS: Check out Hey Tea for Asian beverages and Nan Xiang for soup dumplings. I have bookmarked Chong Qing Lao Zao for hot pot on my next visit. This hotel does not offer a shuttle to LGA, but is a quick and cheap pick up and drive to LGA.

Checked in, and they said "opps sorry, we oversold that room due to a system error, you can only get a one bed room instead - here's 5k points, please accept and go away". So, long story short, to stay off the streets at 10pm, we had to fit three people on a bed where one of us wasn't comfortable snuggling up against us - horrible three nights of sleep. Service was tremendously bad considering this was their fault. They didn't even give us a room with the NYC skyline. So eff this place, do not book. It's on the outskirts of Flushing anyways, the lobby is small - you're MUCH better off at the Sheraton.

Housekeeping carts blocked every portion of the walkway and my group and I literally had to pus Carts down the hallway in order to get to our rooms with our luggage. That's not cool. But Douglas is a wealth of knowledge and gives you all the information on discounts at restaurants. And the rooms are actually cute and comfortable. I had one roller blackout shade that didn't works so couldn't access me of the room brows. But it was okay as I had a 2nd window. I like their little joints to the airlines. It's cute; especially the Pan Am door symbols.

Scrambled eggs, hot oatmeal, yiu-make-em waffles, fruit, hash browns, and corned beef hash. Good wait staff kept it clean and filled. Only gripe was the slow, single elevator that took its good old time. Seems to be like a lot of the 80 year olds in my mom's nursing home- not in a hurry, not sure where they were heading, but trying to do something! For our purposes, it was fine. Looks like there are some good running trails nearby as well, but the cold and misty rain put me back to bed today. 3.5 stars gets the bump to 4 from me.

We called the hotel from LaGuardia Airport, and their complimentary shuttle picked us up promptly within 15 minutes. The shuttle was clean and roomy. Our suite included a full kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, and stove, though there were no dishes or utensils provided. It also featured a dining table with chairs, a desk, sofa bed, and best of all--a private in-room Jacuzzi. It was a perfect way to relax after long days out in the cold. The hotel also offers convenient amenities like a coin laundry, a gym, and a vending machine. Daily housekeeping was consistent and appreciated. It's just a short walk to the New World Mall, Tangram Mall and the 7 train, which made getting around very easy. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful with anything we needed. I could stay at the expensive retro on-airport hotel, I could try to sleep in the airport, or I could leave the airport and sleep elsewhere. This place was still quite costly as one might expect, but it fit the bill pretty well for option #3. Notably, there is a shuttle service. To come from the airport to the hotel, you have to ride (and pay for) the airport's train, so I just took a Lyft instead. To go to the airport from the hotel, they will take you to the terminal for free, and this service is notably every 30 minutes, 24/7, so that fit the bill for me. In addition to being a good quality room, my space had a fantastic view of the city skyline, which will not be true of every room in the building but will probably be pretty common. The neighborhood is a bit sketch but I walked out for dinner and there were people walking dogs and things on some of the more residential streets. I got a microwave and a refrigerator but not dishes or utensils. It's always a bit strange to me when, as is the case here, there are two hotels next to each other under the same brand. This one had better reviews than the other one, and I was satisfied with my choice.

There is a complimentary airport shuttle, but in order to access it from the airport it kinda difficult. It was easier for me to uber back and forth. The room was clean and somewhat spacious for it to be a studio room. Now since it is a Residence Inn, I am aware that people stay for extended period of time. Now I did smell something interesting on my second night. Eventually the smell went away, but outside of that I had a great experience. Oh they offer a hot breakfast in the morning until 9 AM. The option were limited for me as I am currently not eating bread and don't eat pork. But good variety for most people. Good option in a convenient location!

Ended up settling for McDonald's which was a few minute walk away. Bring food in from the city if you don't wanna leave the area and don't wanna end up eating McDonald's. Free breakfast starts at 6am. Yogurts, oatmeal, jimmy dean breakfast sandwiches, coffee, and fruits were at the breakfast bar. Lots of places to sit here in the eating area. Gym was a typical hotel fitness center but open 24 hours. Definitely a convenient place to stay if you're leaving out of JFK airport!

They have valet parking but there is also metered street parking. We took advantage of the latter as we were pretty much out for most of our stay. The staff here were extremely nice and friendly. When we went to our room, we did find that the toilet was dirty. We went back down and requested another room. They didn't hesitate at all and we were given a different room. Our new room was clean and comfortable. We chose to stay at this location because we wanted to check out different boroughs. It was very convenient to where we wanted to go. We did take a couple of trips back to Manhattan but it wasn't a big deal. Probably one of the better choices in the area for a comfortable stay.
