Another good experience with Four Points Dental. Came in for a routine cleaning. And found out I need a tooth extraction. I kind of knew this was coming. I have had some discomfort with a molar. Not pain, but pressure when I chewed. It's only been in the last week or two that I've noticed it. Turned out I had a cavity under my crown. So after my cleaning, I went home for a little bit, and went back for the extraction. The little sucker didn't want to come out, but in the end, the dentist won that battle. I was numbed I think 3 times. Usually I can be pretty chill at the dentist, but this time I was crying, and extremely jittery. The assistant got me a blanket and rubbed my arm as the needle went in with the novocain. Once the numbing and needle part was over I was feeling a little more relaxed. It did take some tugging but it came out. I did see it after it was pulled out, molars are big, I can't believe it came out all in one piece. Happy it's over with. But this will be a long process of healing, and then an implant. They are saying about 6 months. read more

The very basics in a dental experience is that I expect to be treated with kindness, compassion, and above all, professionalism. My review is limited exclusively to Dr. Evan John, so take from that what you will. I had no idea going in who I would see, and for that reason, I felt obligated to warn others. I found Dr. Evan John to be incredibly unprofessional and lacking in bedside manner. Further, he was not thorough and incredibly awkward, which only added to my anxiety. I have since learned (from social media, no less) that he is a brand new dentist, and maybe that explains it. Even other professionals I have spoken to have acknowledged that the bedside manner was inappropriate. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, I cannot excuse the experience I had. Let me start by saying going to the dentist is my very least favorite thing to do and moving from Houston where I saw the same dentist for 10 years+ (and drove 45 mins to see her) finding a new one gave me severe anxiety. I called a few and they weren't able to see me for 2+ weeks and having some issues I needed to get in sooner. I made a call to Four Points and they got me right in. Check! Check! I was hopeful and just left the office and I know I found a new dentist for my family. The staff was amazing, dental hygienist Sergio was incredible and Dr. John was 5 stars! What they DON'T tell you is that they are out of network so when they submit the bill the insurance company won't pay it. Then they want you to pay the ridiculous bill for just a cleaning & 2 minute visit from the doctor. I don't like that kind of disceptive business practice. [this review details an experience in spring 2021] I understand that going to a dentist during a pandemic is very much like driving on the highway without a seatbelt, but I had just gotten fully vaccinated and desperately needed my first cleaning in over a year. That being said, is it too much to ask a receptionist of a medical office to wear a mask? The dental assistant I had seen the past few times there was friendly and welcoming - sandy blonde hair, I can't remember her name. She's the only reason this review is getting more than 1 star. It's my understanding there was a substantial employee change during the pandemic and it did *not* benefit the business. The big sin Four Points performed was to "upgrade" me to a more expensive payment tier due to needing a deep cleaning. Nothing was said to me beforehand, they hid additional payments until after the procedure was done, and to my surprise I saw my payment was almost triple what it normally was. When I asked the receptionist about it she rolled her eyes and said "that's just how things are here" and rudely explained that once I got that deep cleaning they would have to always charge me the higher rate, no matter what my dental history looks like. What kind of dentist's office hides something like that from a customer? For a dentist's office I left with a very bad taste in my mouth. Y'all, I'm not even sure where to begin. I came into this office about two years ago with a swollen face from a gum infection. I didn't have insurance at the time. I didn't know what to do. I called Four Points and spoke with Bobby. After explaining we didn't have insurance or much money to spare, he ensured me that they would help me out in every way that they could and gave me his word that we could figure something out that would work financially for us. Bobby informed me of a few plans that could help me financially and they did. Immensely. Becky or Bobby call me after every procedure to see how I'm doing or if I need anything. Another visit was due to a painful cavity that needed a root canal. At the time I wasn't able to make the full payment for the procedure. But Dr. Heiman and his wonderful staff created a payment plan that made it possible to have this procedure done. The staff has always been warm, welcoming and incredibly understanding. They always ask how my family/dog is doing, how my new job is going, etc. They have always been thorough with explaining in detail what my dental plan is, prices, insurance coverage (once I finally got insurance!), etc. Y'all, this place was my saving grace. I'm thankful to have found this incredible group of people who put their clients before anything. This staff goes above and beyond for their patients. No exaggerations. I'm so grateful to say that today was my last visit! It is bittersweet :) as I've grown close with the staff here. I love love love my dentist. I ended up here because I had another dentist take xrays and tell me I needed something like 12 fillings. I was appalled and went elsewhere. Luckily I found Four Points where they only filled the ones that were absolutely necessary and let me watch to see if we could remineralize the tiny ones. Usually when I see dentists, I'm on guard, ready to protect my teeth from unnecessary money making procedures. I am new to town and had tooth pain from a previous procedure. I called and was seen right away. The staff was fantastic and sympathetic. They verified my insurance while I was on my way and I was seen as soon as I arrived. Dr. Heiman knew immediately that I had a bone spur and gave me instructions on how to care for it, he was very kind and understood the type of pain. I am going back for a cleaning and exam. If that goes well I plan to make this my dental practice and have him finish the dental implant which process as I received a very detailed estimate of my patient cost after insurance which is the same as I have previously paid for a dental implant. read more

Absolutely amazing! I was pretty sure I was going to need a root canal, so I scheduled an appointment for 10:30 AM. They were quite busy, but the dentist himself came and got me within one minute of 10:30 AM. After a brief conversation and inspection, he requested an X-ray. Two minutes later, the radiologist came over and laid the lead blanket on my chest, and placed the fixture in my mouth. Then, like every tooth x-ray 've ever had, she walks outside the room and flips a switch, and you hear that little beep. But then literally 10 seconds later, as she's walking over to take the thing out of my mouth, the x-ray image shows up on the computer next to where I'm sitting. She glances at it, points to a dark spot and says "Yes, I can already see that you will definitely need a root canal." Less than five minutes later, the dentist is back, and points to the same darkened area in the x-ray, clearly showing where the nerve root has died and the abscess has formed (thus confirming that I do indeed need a root canal). And now if you think they are only in it for the money, here's what really blew me away - the dentist says "We do root canals here, but I'm going to suggest you go to a specialist, because of that gold crown. They have special tools where they can drill through the crown without destroying it. I think that would be the best option for you." At 10:57 AM, I am already checked out, paid up, into my car, and out of the parking lot and onto the highway. Only 27 minutes since the time of my appointment! (I've waited longer than that for some doctors to show up!) I don't normally love dentists, but I love these guys! read more

Let's face it, going to dentist is one thing that no one likes doing. I've had my fair share of nightmare experiences like I'm sure everyone else has. BUT after living in Austin for almost 3 years, I am sooo glad that I found Four Points Dental! The staff here is wonderful and have always made each one of my visits a pleasant experience. The hygienist is very attentive and extra careful whenever she does my cleaning since I have pretty sensitive teeth. Dr. Heiman is truly the best at what he does and I'm so happy that I finally found a dentist who I can trust to help keep my pearly whites healthy! I will say I do not love dentist. I have had so many bad experiences before. Dr. Heiman and staff do a amazing job making you feel comfortable and at home. I had a traumatic experience where I was not numbed enough during a previous root canal procedure and have not wanted to go back to a dentist since. Dr Heiman made me feel much more comfortable about coming to the dentist and he repaired that same root canal that was apparently not done correctly before and was a WAY better experience than last time. I still don't love going to the dentist but they are great about making sure you feel comfortable and I love that. They will be my go to dentist for now on. I had procrastinated for an embarrassing amount of time (years) to address my periodontal issues. Finally I made the appointment with Dr. John and his hygienist, Elizabeth. Together they did everything possible to make my visit comfortable and alay my fears. Elizabeth is THE gentlest, yet thorough hygienist I have ever experienced. My teeth and gums are healed, even though I had been advised by another dentist to seek a periodontist to do the necessary work. They were so confident and rightly so. Very rude, clumsy, and painful. The dentist didn't listen when I said I was in pain. Also, he put so much pressure on my jaw that it popped out of place. The front desk was kind at check in for my 6 month dental cleaning. This was my first visit to this practice. They took ex rays and they began the cleaning. About 5 minutes into the cleaning the hygienist abruptly left. Dr. Dawson came in and started looking around in my mouth..she started to say..oh no.... I was like..what?? To make a long story short she said I had 3 HUGE cavities that were overlooked by my previous dentist. (She had no recorded from my previous dentist to compare too). She also said I needed an entire lower jaw gum graph. I was shocked...panicked and a bit traumatized; especially how she handled the rest of the cleaning (the original hygienist never returned). When I went to check out, they handed me a estimate of 4K for all the work (not including the gum graph; which can run into thousands of dollars). The work would include a root canal, an extraction of a tooth and a filing. Luckily my old dentist, who is super amazing and trustworthy..reviewed Dr. Dawsons ex rays and compared them to my past 2 previous years. I will make this real simple...I need 2 small fillings..that is all! She also said that by no means do I need a gum graph on my entire lower half. I do not trust this practice and would NEVER recommend them to anyone. read more

Well this dentistry was assigned by our insurance. We went in in an early morning to do the routine check up. Upon the dentist Dr. John checked my daughter's teeth, he said she needed 2 fillings and the receptionist gave me an estimate about $270, they said one of the fillings was urgent and they could do it right away, I agreed. After a while, the receptionist told me that they saw another cavity in my daughter's teeth and the estimate went up to $300+. When everything is done, the bill went up to $450. I understand that sometimes the dentist can't predict the exact amount or problem they is going to solve, but this whole experience still left me with doubts. I maybe should have asked a second opinion before let my daughter take the fillings, but sometimes it's hard to decide what is the best choice when a mom is told that this is good for your child, I guess. If you have a DHMO, avoid this place. Long story short, on the day I was scheduled to receive treatment (just some simple 'ol fillings COVERED 100% by my insurance after my copays), Four Points decided to charge me full price for the service. When I pointed it out, they refused to honor my copays. At first, the receptionist tried to tell me that the amounts they were billing me for WERE my copays, then they blamed it on my insurance, then it was a miscommunication... After about half an hour of trying to get an explanation out of them, I decided to call my insurance then and there. The insurance rep assured me that the treatment would be covered, and the only amount I was required to pay for that visit were the copays. I even asked the rep to call Four Points to explain this, which she did immediately after ending our phone call. Still, even after that, Four Points didn't budge. I left their office, called my insurance again, and I filed a complaint with them. That following week, I received a call from someone at Four Points billing dept, I think. The person I spoke with tried to explain to me WHY I was being billed full price for my treatment. Didn't make sense to me, so I asked her to email me the info instead. As of this date, I've yet to receive any correspondence from Four Points Dental. On a positive note, I've since switched to a different dentist and haven't had any issues! **6/21/16 update. I received a pm from a FPD employee. See additional screen shots and check out that convo! Notice I didn't change their rating? **6/23/16 update. My post received a comment from a FPD employee slanderously implying I was a "difficult" patient, and insinuating they treated me the way they did as a direct attempt to "guide" me away from their practice. Bobby G, if you recall, I was very cordial and respectful to you and the rest of the staff on both occasions I was there. You shouldn't make such assumptions about ones character. On that note, I've had three different providers this year BECAUSE I MOVED. If it was practical for me to keep my original (1st) dentist in South Austin, I would have. I transferred to FPD (my 2nd dentist) because it was closer to my new place. But with the poor costumer service I received at FPD, I switched to my current (3rd) dentist at Aviva Dental Care, whom I'm very happy with. And to clarify, per the "evidence of coverage" (which I provided to FPD staff), my intended treatment was NOT an elective, cosmetic or upgraded procedure. Furthermore, unless I was INTENTIONALLY misinformed by FPD staff, FPD does not offer the amalgam fillings. So clearly, I did NOT have the option to choose the type of fillings I would receive as you claim. If you'd like to discuss this further, you can pm me. Just like every other person, I have high anxiety going to the dentist but Dr. Heiman and his staff (literally everyone from the front desk to the dental hygienist) are so friendly and welcoming. I have been avoiding going to the dentist but so thankful that I chose four points dental. My consultation went well, but my actual procedure was not a good experience. I went there over a month ago, and my mouth still hurts. I don't know what happened exactly, but I'm waiting to see a new dentist to try to figure out what went wrong. It's hard to chew and my teeth literally hurt every time I eat or drink anything, no matter the temperature. During my consult, I was given an estimated price for several procedures, including some cosmetic work. It was extremely high, so I did some research and comparison shopping, then gave one of the "second opinions" to Four Points Dental during my 2nd appt (just a cleaning), in hopes they could give me a more reasonable quote. I got the impression I had offended them, though, because it wasn't received very well. During my cleaning, the dentist stopped several times to go do other things (other patients, perhaps??), and "ran out of water," while doing the cleaning. I was there for about 3 hours, mostly due to the interruptions. We did discuss the treatment plan afterwards, and I was told they could cut the cost in half, but no financing options would be available if I chose that route. I was then charged more than my original estimate for the cleaning, and was told that my teeth would be polished "in about a month," instead of that day, but that they had already included that fee in the invoice to the insurance company. I decided not to use Four Points Dental because I felt like it was a high pressure sale environment, and when I told them I was shopping around, it was as if I had *no right* and was going to be penalized for it - like, "sure, we'll give you half off but you must pay in cash! And you must sign now!" Soon after, I asked for my dental records (x-rays, etc.), but it took weeks to get them to send me anything, and even then I think it was only because I said I'd contact the owner about the situation if I didn't receive my records and copy of the invoice by the next morning. I think the prices here are too high and since just a cleaning caused so much extended pain, I'm not impressed by the quality of work, either. read more

So lucky this group is in network on our Travis County insurance plan! Nice office, new equipment, knowledgeable staff, and they don't try to sell you a bunch of stuff you don't need. Unlike many mass production dentist 'mills' this is a small boutique office that gives attention to detail and knows your whole family by name. We have had the routine cleanings and fillings, and now I just had 3 crowns. I have referred others to this dentist and all have come back with a great experience. Thanks so much guys! read more

I just had my first root canal. One that I avoided for 2 years. I was in so much pain. When I met my dentist I was taken back as he looked like he just completed college! LOL He actually is a very young dentist, Dr. Heiman. I am a medical professional and have the "white coat" syndrome. Dr. Heiman made me feel so comfortable right away and did my partial root canal.
