Got Invisalign here and when I did the initial consult, the person "selling" the product said my dental insurance would cover a portion of it. I told her I think I reached my max and she said "no, I checked with your insurance company". Fast forward 18 months later after I finished my treatment, they send me a bill for $1,700 in addition to what I already paid. I contacted them and they said they would look into it and then responded back that my insurance didn't pay since I reached my maximum. So basically the woman who sold it to me at the beginning just flat out lied to me so I would move forward with the Invisalign. Such a shady practice...don't believe anything they tell you about price on the front end. read more

I received a dental cleaning and general check-up from Swish Dental Mueller Alamo a while back (~2 years ago). Although I arrived late to the appointment (went to the wrong location in Mueller first), they took me in almost immediately. The office is incredibly clean and aesthetically pleasing. They play some music for you, and each exam room has its own TV for you to watch during your exam. Further, everyone working with me during my appointment was incredibly thorough - they took x-rays, panoramic 3D scans, and pictures of my teeth, went over the details of my teeth and what the appointment would entail, and answered every single one of my questions. I also needed to get new retainers to wear at night. To be clear, I did not need Invisaline to correct crooked teeth, just retainers to wear at night (I had braces several years ago and just needed new retainers). At first, I was feeling good about the process. Swish used a camera to take images of every surface of my teeth to then create the retainers. However, when they gave me my retainers a week later, they were not created correctly and literally pushed my teeth into different places and made them crooked. I suddenly could not even close my mouth. After 2 days, I came in to get new scans to figure out what was going wrong. Gone was the cheerful and pleasant attitudes I had previously experienced. The people working with me basically told me it was all in my head and nothing was wrong. I insisted that they overlay the new scans onto the ones from just 2 weeks prior, and the difference was obvious. My teeth had shifted considerably. The retainers were all wrong. Luckily, Swish agreed to remake my nighttime retainers in a way that would push the teeth back to how they originally were, for free. However, this was after a lot of stress on my part, and frankly, lying on their part. I believe that the retainers cost $600-700 in total, and they came with 2 pairs (so 2 top trays, 2 bottom trays). Fast forward to this year, I just called to get a quote for my partner, who needs new nighttime retainers. They quoted me at over $2000. We'll be taking our business elsewhere, and I highly recommend proceeding with caution to anyone coming to Swish. read more

Amazing! I started as a new patient today with scans and X-rays, and they got me in later the same day for a cleaning. Everyone I spoke with was kind and checked in on me the whole time. Luis at the front desk is wonderful, kind, and efficient!! The care itself was overall painless and I will definitely be coming back. I had found Swish Dental using the in-network provider locator tool my dental insurance provided me with. I got an appointment the same day I called and the appointment was quick and I was told I could get my root camel done the following Tuesday. On Monday I called the dental office because they never sent me any information and after speaking with them they emailed me a care plan. The care plan showed I would pay almost the entire cost of the crown. So I called my insurance and then called Swish dental and they said that if I wanted to use my insurance it would take a few weeks to get approved and I'll have to wait longer and that it's better to just pay out of pocket. The only party that would benefit from that would be this greedy dentist office that wants their office price of a root canal and crown instead of receiving the pre-negotiated price with my insurance. Avoid this dentist at all cost unless you're paying cash. *Update* I received a call from Swish and basically they wanted me to use a dentist within there office that's not in network with my dental insurance and I told them I would not be using their services. The lady tried to push but I declined again. Thanks Swish Dental, now I will have to find another dentist and wait another 2 weeks to get my dental emergency taken care of. read more

I hadn't gone to the dentist in far too long and decided to go to Swish. The first visit was fine enough and we set up a time for a cleaning and multiple fillings. At the first visit, when discussing the cleaning, the person (I believe the hygienist) said that even though I don't have gum disease, they'd use a laser treatment to help gum inflammation. This offhand remark was all I heard about this laser treatment, and since I haven't been to the dentist in awhile, I figured it's now a common part of teeth cleaning. When I arrived for my cleaning they sent me a consent form to sign on my phone, and it turns out this laser treatment is a whole procedure, called laser periodontal disease therapy. Their form literally calls it a surgery. It requires a liquid diet for 0-3 days, "mushy" food from 4-7 days, and soft food from 7-10 days. No brushing is allowed for a week and soreness can last for "as long as 1 year or more." I was not told ANY of this at my first visit or prior to being given the consent form the day the procedure was supposed to happen. I don't know anything about the merits of this procedure; maybe it's a good one. But that's just the point--I don't know anything about a procedure I was supposed to have today. Something this serious should be discussed fully and transparently before they sign you up for an appointment to receive the treatment, and it can't be waived away as part of a normal dental cleaning. I'm glad I read the consent form, but that's not the first time I should have received this information. This is not a place I trust to be working on my teeth. read more

The Swish formula, ambience, equipment, etc. is nice however at this location I had the poor experience of the dentist telling me I had a cavity where I didn't. Literally fixing the cavity was a 1 second buzz w/ the drill while I had no anesthesia on that side of my mouth. When I asked for it to be pointed out to me on the xray I couldn't see a spot there either. I've heard of several other customers having unnecessary work suggested or performed on them. Consider another location if you enjoy Swish in general. read more

I was in need of a new dentist due to moving to this area of Austin. I figured it was time to get established with a dentist that is closer so when traffic picks back up again post 'Rona I have not turned on my road rage again. It was easy to set up an appointment. I did get reschedule two times after that which was slightly annoying but I was able to make it work out. Dental experiences during "Rona a little different. You must text before entering the building and they use the metal scrapper instead of the ultrasound water pick. However, this place is very technologically advanced compared to other offices. They will make a 3D image of your teeth with a special camera. It was cool to see what my mouth looks like in a 3D image. Overall a good dental experience. Make sure to get your parking validated before you leave since you can park in the garage. read more

Honestly, they're pretty good if you don't have need a crown done. I started going to Swish Dental about 2 years ago when I realized my dentist who I've been going to for 5+ years was out of network and also I have since moved and lived in Mueller for the past 6 years. I've generally just have cleanings and maybe a filling or two done but this time I needed 3 fillings and 2 crowns. I'm at the age where I'm too lazy to argue or get a second opinion. This is where everything went wrong. The temporary crown fell out 5 times. It literally fell out the same day after I left the dental office and then again 3 times in one week! The first 3 times, they got me in the same day to redo the temporary crown and the 4th times, they gave me temp cement to have me do it myself if it fell out again. Literally, my team wants me to switch dentists but the fact is that this dental office is walking distance from my apartment and I've never had so much trouble until now. The 5th time it fell out was about 3 days from my appointment for my permanent crown so now I'm just waiting to see if they can get me in earlier cause drinking anything cold or hot without a crown sucks. I'm seriously thinking about seeing if my old dentist is back in my network since I have switched jobs cause even though this place is convenient, the quality of work seems to be quite lacking. My prior dentist went out of network and Swish was one of the few practices with availability within a month. My hygienist was really friendly and the dentist seemed thorough. They have a LOT of what seems like state of the art gear (eg camera that generated 3D rendering of your teeth) that I'd normally be a little wary of but it was all included through insurance so it was all good. I can't say enough amazing things about this office... so I won't try to say every word in my head but will try to narrow it down to a few in case you're looking for a dentist. (If you are, you're in luck, because Swish ROCKS, y'all!). I was a patient here in the before-times, and I was already so happy to have landed at Swish. I became a member of the Swish Smile Membership b/c I don't have dental insurance, and the membership really is a superb deal. (Membership is not required, but for me, without dental insurance, it's considerably less than I paid at my old dentist for yearly cleanings/ Xray/ exams.) I had been in for two cleanings and exams in 2019-20, and I was excited and duly impressed with everything and everyone (the people most of all, and the physical space too!), and then of course the pandemic swept down on us and changed life as we knew it. Eesh. Because I tend to be a tad anxious by nature, and because my partner has some issues that put him in the high-risk category, I spent the many months pre-vaccine hunkered down and masked and doing curbside stuff only. Needless to say, it's kinda impossible to do a curbside dental visit, haha. I'm not hypochondriacal (at least I don't think so!), but missing my six-month checkup (hasn't happened in eons), combined with being too anxious to go in even when they were open, made me imagine -- and find "evidence" for -- the very worst was going on in my mouth. I mean, really. The. Worst. (So I guess I can be hypochondriacal after all.) First let me back up and say that even when I cancelled my October appointment because of my anxiety, the staff was super kind and understanding. Truly compassionate. I never once felt judged or shamed for missing my appointments. They always make it easy to communicate with them: phone, text, app. They're incredibly responsive and organized and attentive, always. So I was excited to be in once again (just last week! a red-letter day!), and it turns out all the things I thought were wrong in my mouth were not wrong after all (big whew!). But if those things had been awry, I would've been in the right place to get them fixed ;-) But even with the massive relief I felt at my worries not being reality, the best part of being back was just being back and seeing everyone, and experiencing the in-person warmth, professionalism, and superb care I've come to know from Swish. I was anxious at first (cuz of the worries), but Cheryl put me at ease so beautifully and naturally... she heard my concerns, looked at my teeth, then did a thorough cleaning (and my worries started to melt away already, even before the X-ray). And Kate did my X-rays for me (and scanned my teeth for a night guard I've been wanting), and Renea helped me with my billing/ appointments. And it was wonderful seeing Dr. Thompson again when I had my exam (she is fantabulous!). Really, I couldn't be happier with Swish and everyone here, who are all kind, compassionate, patient, engaging, careful and attentive. Y'all make me feel at home in a way I never would've thought possible at a dental office... that's amazing to me, and you get all the credit! A million thanks to my amazing Alamo Swish... And he translated my babbling into action and worked his impressive magic (it's a science and an art!) and made adjustments so that it feels so much better now, and not only that, he was so gracious in encouraging me to get back in touch if I needed further adjustments to be made. Their equipment is super high tech and all of their staff is absolutely lovely. Jerica (sorry if spelt wrong) spent most of my appointment with me and was FABULOUS. She was very courteous, thorough, and our laughs are probably what kept me at bay! I'll admit I was drawn to this dentist initially because of the in-office experience--Netflix during the procedure/cleaning, pre-covid you could borrow weighted blankets or headphones. As someone who has increasingly bad anxiety about going to the dentist, I appreciated the extra touches to make each visit stress-free. The team really impressed me during my most recent visit. I have extremely sensitive teeth, and panicked a bit when I felt sharp pain at the beginning of a routine filling. The team was extremely patient with me, worked to make sure I was numb and comfortable, and talked me through the whole thing, also following up the next day to see how I was doing. Really top-notch group here! Only reason for not giving 5 stars is that I think their prices are a bit more expensive than you'd find elsewhere, but the extra level of care they provide makes it worth it to me. read more

As soon as I wrote about my struggles, I was contacted by Adrian with Swish Dental, who was so kind and patient - he acknowledged and sincerely apologized for my issues. He also made sure to offer help in rescheduling my appointment to ensure that I was getting the time and date that I wanted, and even added some complimentary service as well. My first couple of visits here were great but staff seems to turn over all the time and I have never had the same hygienist or dentist more than once. I wasn't a fan of the dentist I had yesterday. She didn't go over my x-rays with me and she didn't check my teeth or check my gum lines. She only spent a few minutes with me and basically just asked me if I had any concerns and applied fluoride to my teeth. When I did mention my concern about some tooth pain and that maybe I had a cavity, she said that she didn't want to have to drill into my teeth and that I should just use sensitive toothpaste when I brush. So now I still have tooth pain and need to find a new dentist asap. read more

My daughter recently had wisdom teeth pulled at this location and the actual team providing the surgery was amazing. The negatives were mainly with the office people coordinating prior to and after as well as the inability to reach someone after her surgery. Annoying but not a deal breaker - They've had the wrong number on file for quite some time - and continue to call the wrong number first after being updated no less than 4 times. Poor communication - After her surgery, reception told me she was done and to "pull around back" where she'd be wheeled out to meet me with no further instruction as to where in back to go. After waiting for over 10 minutes in the back and unable to reach anyone on the phone, I assumed I was in the wrong place and had to drive around to ask them. Turns out she wasn't totally done like I'd been told - and I was just meant to wait in a no parking zone for however long it was going to take. This is the biggest issue - our pharmacy was unable to fill the pain meds prescribed and recommended that the doctor send the prescription to a different pharmacy that had it in stock. Seems pretty simple, but they could not be bothered to answer their phones or respond to their text line contrary to what the aftercare sheet says. So I'm not entirely sure how someone who had issues/questions would get any help. I wish the office staff would have been as great as the team that did her surgery. I went in because I fell off my bike and scraped a few teeth on asphalt and needed a cleaning. they said I needed four crowns, two of the teeth had no scrapes and they wouldn't do the cleaning until I agreed to the crowns. I told them I don't want to do anything just for cosmetic purposes and had no pain or any issues. same thing happened about ten years ago at another dentist with multiple locations, so I got a second opinion from my usual dentist who said I didn't need anything, all was fine, just like ten years ago. the place looked like and felt like an assembly line place, and aparantly it was, they we're still installing a/c and walls and chairs while I was there. very nice, but really?. read more

I really really love this Dentist and her staff. My mom had had extensive dental worth w Dr Thompson and the results are wonderful. I recently had a cavity filled w Dr Thompson and I am so grateful we get to come here. The doctor is so professional and care, plus she's really good! Cheryl who i believe is the dental hygienist (pls forgive me if I said this incorrectly) is a super star, so kind and thoughtful also great at her job. Rayna (sorry if I spelled it wrong) is lovely. I was really hopeful about Swish Dental, especially the Mueller Alamo location, after reading other reviews online. Here's my experience... TL;DR - They love to spend time showing off their fancy equipment by doing X-Rays and 3D scans instead of actually fixing a problem or working with their patients. When you have a (hopefully rare!) tooth pain situation, don't expect them to be timely fixing or having any empathy about your pain. Many appointments may be necessary to get something as simple as a cleaning done. This is bad when considering multiple exposure for COVID-19, not to mention lost time for the patient. They don't change their gloves between rolling around their machines/touching the computer and actually touching things that go in your mouth/putting their fingers in your mouth. The glasses they force you to wear when they're using tools in your mouth seem to not be sterilized except with hand sanitizer. At least one employee wears a vented mask. Full Story - I booked my first appointment on 10/22/20 for an initial consultation. They did a much appreciated COVID screen before the appointment, took my temperature inside, and had HEPA filters inside the office + all staff had masks on. It seemed as though they were the most equipped to deal with the pandemic of any business I had seen so far. They did a full workup very similar to what other places have done when I switched dental offices in the past. X-Rays, 3D scan, photos, etc. However, every other dental office I have been to lumped the first visit and the first cleaning together. Swish does not. This was roughly an hour and a half of documentation of my mouth! I left slightly upset since I would think it would be especially important to not have multiple exposure for the staff and patients while the COVID-19 pandemic is worsening. Plus, who has ever spent an hour and a half just having their teeth documented? As a note, it does not state anywhere obvious that the initial consultation does not include a cleaning. This alone, however, would not constitute a bad review. I misjudged the situation and didn't ask what the appointment included. The second experience was much worse. I booked an appointment for what they call an "Emergency/Tooth Pain" on Sunday (11/22/20) for their next appointment on Tuesday (11/24/20) due to some seriously bad pain in one of my molars when eating or drinking anything. I called on Monday (11/23/20) to ensure that they could actually do something to fix my pain during the appointment if it was more simple like a filling. The lady on the phone said, verbatim, "Well we have you booked in for an hour here so if you're going to need a filling or anything like that then we should have time to do it then". Great! Except.... When I got to my appointment, they sat me down and did X-Rays and another 3D scan. You may remember that I mentioned above that the first appointment's apparent sole purpose was to do these things! It has been only a month since then and they still did the whole workup again. While waiting for Dr. Thompson, one of the hygienists checked my gums and now I magically have full-blown gingivitis as well. It's bizarre they didn't catch that at all in the "initial consultation" appointment (you'd think they would check your gums here). As a note, I have never had a cavity or any gum problems in my life due to how seriously I take brushing + flossing. Dr. Thompson finally came in, took a 60 second look at the tooth and blamed the problem with my tooth on my clenching (why did we need the 3D scan and 45 minutes of other workups for this?), then told me to take Advil for the next 3 nights before bed. She asked if I had any questions, then left! Now, after booking an EMERGENCY tooth pain appointment, I have to spend Thanksgiving with a massively painful tooth since they are closed through the Holiday. Sadly I have to travel to see a sick relative as well on the 30th, so I have weeks until I will even have the chance to get this fixed. Just as a breakdown, I'd like to tell you how many appointments I would have gone through if I did their entire treatment plan... 1 for the initial consultation 1 for the "emergency" appointment 1 for the filling from the emergency appointment + ordering mouthguard 1 for the gingivitis cleaning (I still don't understand this one) 1 for the regular cleaning 1 to fit and pick up the mouthguard Holy hell! That's SIX appointments for a mouthguard, cleaning, and filling. I'll give them 2 stars for the benefit of the doubt. read more
