I was very impressed with this experience. The vibe on the patio is so cute! We spent a lot of time yapping (as best friends do) and the service was excellent. The food was good, I can't wait to return to try more items. The lovely lavender mill tail was so good and the presentation made it that much more enjoyable. The star of the night was the brownie. That thing is absolutely perfect!! The brownie was piping hot, made perfectly the ice cream on top was the perfect amount and the thick Caramel drizzle was a nice addition. A friend and I were here for the first time and the entire experience was outstanding! We shared a couple of desserts before going to the movies. We had the butter cake with house made blackberry whipped cream. The butter cake was moist and the most buttery of any butter cake I've ever had. The whipped cream was rich and had just the right amount of blackberries incorporated into it. We also shared the Chef's Choice orange cheesecake which was probably the best cheesecake I've ever had. It was definitely orangey but not in your face. It was on the edge of being tart but not to the point of being sour, and best of all, it wasn't too sweet. Both desserts were sublime! Nicole, our server did an excellent job of describing all of the desserts. She was attentive but not overly. It was obvious that she enjoyed her work. She was friendly, welcoming, helpful and professional. Nicole, thanks for making our experience at Fourth Street Mill memorable. The restaurant is rustic and quaint in a low keyed setting. I got the Alfredo Fettuccine with chicken and then you choose between broccoli and mushrooms. The sauce was delicious and creamy! The chicken wasn't dry. Honestly I devoured my plate even though I was supposed to be watching my intake of food. It was so good! My mother and I visited there recently and were impressed with the quaintness of the place. There were two employees on shift that day. When we walked in, we were greeted by a blonde woman working on a computer. The brunette server was less than friendly. She tossed our setups onto the table without a greeting or a glance. She also placed a QR code menu on the table which my 90 year old mother doesn't know how to use. I had to flag her down to ask for a regular menu which seemed to annoy her. We both enjoyed our meals and drinks in spite of the servers attitude. She acted more like a DMV employee or an indentured servant than a retail facing employee. I don't give bad restaurant reviews lightly. I worked in restaurants for more than 20 years, and this was a place we wanted to try for a long time. The food was good, but the service was the issue. There appeared to be only one server, one host, and one food runner, and most of their attention seemed focused on a large softball team. It was Sunday brunch. I was a bit shocked that they were so understaffed. Hot tea took about 15 minutes to arrive, and my aunts side of toast took another 20 minutes after we had to remind the server twice. When we inquired about the hot tea the server said she had to warm the water up herself and even though we ordered the toast when we received our food - it took 20 minutes to get it and when we asked where the toast was after 10 minutes, she said the cooks go ticket by ticket and focus on the food that comes in and she had no control of it - that's what she said. What bothered me most was her attitude. The server wasn't friendly and seemed annoyed whenever we asked about anything. Then, as soon as she dropped off the check, suddenly she was all smiles. Overall, it was truly truly disappointing. I can overlook service issues when the food is exceptional, or average food when the service is great. Unfortunately, neither was the case here. I loved coming here. But today we felt very rushed during our visit. From the moment we sat down, it seemed like the staff wanted us out quickly rather than allowing us to enjoy our meal. Plates were cleared while we were still eating, and the service felt more like pressure than hospitality. Our check was brought out immediately after we finished eating. Dining out should feel welcoming and relaxed, but instead it was of this. Made me sad because we sat outside and really wanted to enjoy our afternoon. At no point did they ask to refill our drinks nor ask if we wanted another alcoholic beverage. Our server seemed very annoyed with us. Wow, what a surprise, and not in a good way! We have eaten here regularly for several years. The food and service have always been great. It seems that there have been a lot of staffing changes. Today the fresh fish tacos were extremely overcooked. This was the first time they were cooked this way. We ordered fries but they were never served. We asked twice but they still weren't served when we finished our meal. The server seemed completely out of her comfort zone. Apologized for slow service because she was alone (there were only two tables of customers) we were not offered refill on our drinks and could see that the server was busying herself cleaning . The food here is decent, better than a chain restaurant but not going to be a fine dining by any standard. The portion sizes vary from almost nothing to far too much. What really stands out about this restaurant however is that the service quality is worse than poor. Some notes: If you go here anytime within 2 hours of closing they will constantly try to close you out, putting chairs up on tables, last call, kitchen closing, etc... with an hour to go to their posted closing time. Not a great way to enjoy your meal. The second most noticeable thing is that the waitresses are all extremely rude. I have heard them talking about customers in the open on more than one occasion and they have even mocked me without the decency to go out of earshot. Finally the prices, nothing on their menu is in my opinion reasonable for the prices posted. The "top shelf" liquor is bottom shelf by most standards, and you can even see into the kitchen where they have boxed wine ready to serve a unsuspecting guest at a price you can likely get a date night bottle from the store. Additionally I can, at best, describe the appearance of the staff as uncaring with no uniform standards other than black clothing. It often gives an unkempt, disorganized and even unflattering experience as a guest when it looks like your server just got done working out at the gym. My opinion is that this restaurant is not worth your time, money, or ruining your night from poor service. read more

The main issue we had was they do NOT have a kids menu. However, they have a separate dog menu?? We were told children's items were scattered on the menu. Options we saw: -Cheese quesadilla $9 and $7-10 extra for meat. -Bacon wrapped street dog $10.50. -chicken strips and fries $17.50. -bacon mac&cheese $16. No option comes with a drink or side, minus chicken strips. Plus those are extremely expensive and too large of meals for children. Service was good. We got fried Brussel sprouts, which they have listed under salads (more of an appetizer in my opinion). Very tasty, but definitely isn't a salad. We got an arugula salad but it was bland. This was unfortunately our first and last visit. Our drinks took a while to come out, but we understood since it was decently busy for a Monday. We ordered the fried Brussels sprouts with no raisins, but when they arrived, they honestly did not taste good and were barely touched. When our server, Bailey W., came back, we let her know politely that we didn't like the Brussels sprouts and that we were ready to order our entrées. Her reaction felt defensive, and she said, "I'll see what my manager can do." Before she walked away, I stopped her and told her we were ready to order. She then responded with "To go?" -- which completely threw me off, as we were clearly dining in together. All we wanted was to move on from the appetizer and enjoy dinner. I ordered the beef rice bowl with no tomatoes, but she avoided eye contact, seemed visibly bothered, and then walked away without taking my boyfriend's order. At that point, we decided to just pay for our drinks and leave, because it felt like we were not wanted there. It's truly disappointing because the ambiance was very nice. Even though it was raining hard and hailing when our group of six had lunch yesterday, we had a wonderful time at Fourth Street Mill! We ate at one of the high tables outside, and appreciated that we could do that in Los Angeles in November despite the weather. We started off with fries and fried green beans. Both were excellent! Everyone enjoyed their food, and in particular, my sister-in-law really liked her Brussels sprouts salad with salmon on top and I really liked my vegetarian burger. Looked hand battered and it was light and crispy Bacon wrapped shrimp $14 for 5 and they're not very big. Love the chili sauce on top Tuna salad was yummy and they made me a plain sandwich. I wish there was more for on it! Good flavor. But for $15 a side would be appreciated. Sides of fries would set you back $9!!!! Same for the French dip- served in a buttery lobster roll. Went to lunch here with my sister and niece. It was a beautiful day so we sat on the patio. Service was a bit slow. I ordered the pastrami po boy on a buttery roll. The sandwich was delicious. It comes with a side salad (which I only picked at because I am not a big fan of field greens). My sister had the chicken tacos and my niece the steak tacos, which they both enjoyed. I came here on a week night and it seemed to be popular for dates, locals, and for someone looking to dine al fresco like myself. While there's much to be said about the space, the food not so much. The menu is small-ish, but dabbles all over the place. There's no set themed or specialty. I guess a little something for everyone. My friend and I shared the following: Baja Style Fish Tacos ($18): hand battered, lightly fried fish tacos with tortilla chips Ground Beef Burger ($14): blended patty of chuck, short rib, and brisket with Irish cheddar, lettuce, onion, pickle, and Worcestershire aioli The fish tacos were mid. They were topped with a slaw and the slaw was topped with a slight drizzle of sauce. Everything could have benefitted from more sauce drizzle or salsa. The tacos were otherwise flavorless and dry. Burger was good! It tasted like a very good back yard burger with all the fixings. The menu is reasonably priced so dining here can feel like a treat without breaking any banks. My issue is that when my husband and I ate here Saturday a woman (manager?) dropped a stack of plastic lids on the floor and placed them back in the package they fell out of. Then a male (older) rode up on his bike hugged the same female and passed off a prescription bottle with no label then she quickly put it in a drawer and covered it up. Very suspicious. Won't be back due to lack of hygiene due to lids being placed back into package rather than throw away. My meal was three stars because it was an arugula salad with dry grilled chicken, roasted cauliflower that was too spicy for me to eat and was not designated as spicy on the menu (and I do realize that other people would not think this was spicy, but it was for me). It was supposed to come with pickled onions, but because of my food restrictions, I can't eat pickled things and when I asked if they would substitute cucumber, she said there would be a charge. I consider this pretty ridiculous. Although the arugula was not too bad, it certainly did not seem fresh. The tarragon dressing was okay. My husband, on the other hand was a fan of his fajita wrap. My husband and I are longtime La Verne residents and we love supporting our community. With that being said, we had tried Fourth Street Mill a few times right after they had opened. The service was bad, the food was over priced and wasn't even that good and the drink selection was minimal. We thought it was because they were new and still trying to get a hold of things. We stopped going, figured we'd try them again some other time once they had more "experience". We recently decided to go to Fourth Street Mill (it had been a while) We went on a week night, to have a drink and a snack after work. We walked in and sat at the bar, Bartender Diane saw us walked in and didn't even acknowledge us. She was making drinks, so I didn't want to make a big deal. After a long while she came over and finally took away the dirty mugs that were on the bar prior to us sitting there. She was NOT friendly at all!! We asked for paper menus and she reluctantly went to get them. It almost seemed like she was bothered that we were there. The drinks were poorly made, the food was still overpriced and not good! But most of all, the service was HORRIBLE!!! We were VERY disappointed and needless to say we don't plan to be back. read more
