There's a ritual I do whenever I order a two or three egg classic breakfast where I leave the up easy eggs for last, combine them with a good pile of hash browns, and some of the meat. And then I just mix them up for the last five to eight bites. It's heavenly, combining the best parts of the breakfast into a mash that is more delicious than its individual components. I call it the Grand Finale. And I've done it all across the country in dozens of cities in hundreds of restaurants for decades now. But it takes really good runny and sunny eggs that haven't been overdone or else the ten to twenty minutes of eating everything before the Grand Finale is just going to leave the eggs hard and unusable. It also takes some good meat that not only will be flavorful on their own but also blend well with the mush. And lastly, it takes a good set of hash browns that isn't overly crispy or overly mushy. Roberta's Village Inn has all of that and more. That was one of the best Grand Finales I've had in years. Usually I don't do it with gravy because the country gravy tends to overpower everything else. But the country-fried steak with gravy didn't do that at all. It blended right in with all the other tastes. So too did the eggs remain remarkably running, all the better to be mixed at the end. And, of course, the thin-cut hash browns was plentiful, seasoned (by me), and, mostly importantly, crispy enough on top and bottom, while remaining soft (but not mushy) within. It was the Perfect Storm of a Grand Finale. The service was great. My server took extra care of me, even when I made the mistake of not noticing the food joint was cash only. I took it all in stride. She not only checked on my just frequent enough but was extra helpful in getting me refills, to-go containers, and the check when it was appropriate. The mood and style of the place was classic diner and I dug it. All ever want is a place to chill in with good food, that isn't overly pressured to kick you out for turnover sake. I was about to say it's kind of a small dining room, but when I went to the ATM I saw they have a whole other dining room that must be for when the place starts jumping for the breakfast rush. I'm assuming that's their busiest time judging by how memorable my breakfast plate was tonight. Overall, I already want to come back during breakfast hours and witness the majesty and awesomeness of this food joint when it's fully operation. We love trying new breakfast places but sadly this place was just not it. Right off the bat everyone seemed like they had skipped having their morning coffee. The service was HORRIBLE.I tried multiple times to get someone attention to get a coffee refill and was unsuccessful for well over 20 minutes , I didn't receive my toast until I was halfway through my meal and the was after I asked the waitress for it. The wait staff seem to only be friendly to the usual customers. The only part of the meal that we actually enjoyed was the Bacon. Not only was the service bad but behind the counter looks dirt and dusty. This is a spot I will never return to. read more

Food was great and was a good portion for me and my fiancé. I was craving waffles that's why me and my fiancé decided to eat here for breakfast. Lighting inside could be better, we ate at around 10am and yet it was fairly dark inside. If you're someone like me that needs good lighting and good ambiance then maybe you will feel the same. I noticed at the register which is cool school cash only so suggest bring over $20 cash each person or pay the fees using the ATM at other side. I also asked for cottage cheese instead of hash browns but got hash browns instead. The pancakes were tasty but flat. Overall it was not very impressive, especially for $16 for the sandwich which costs about $1.00 to make. I appreciate that is a classic diner menu and has a great location in down town la Verne. Roberta's Village Inn is every bit the diner you'd expect to walk into given it was opened in 1969. Very old school feel which I love. The place was packed and the wait was still short which was nice. It's a lot of food for a good price. I got the Farm Style breakfast with two fried eggs, bacon and seasoned hash browns. That was already a very generous serving of food and I still got to choose between toast, a pancake or biscuits and gravy. I got the biscuits and gravy. Everything was tasty. The eggs were a little unsalted but have no fear - salt and pepper are at the table. The seasoning for the seasoned hash browns is Lawry's Seasoned Salt which definitely gives it a boost. And bacon is bacon - crispy, delicious. The biscuits and gravy were really good and I took a bite of my wife's pancake which is also good but I had no more room to eat. I felt like I needed to run through the streets of La Verne to burn off all the calories I just ate. The only thing I wish would change is that it's cash only. It's not the only place in La Verne that does this but it's 2025 and inconvenient. Not a big deal but it's those little things sometimes. All in all though, I'd come back. Service still sucks. Haven't been here in years, but decided to give it a try since it's walking distance from Home. We were looking for something quick and nearby. It wasn't busy we got seated right away, the waitress took our order. Food came in a normal amount of time no problems there. Once our food was given to us, I feel like our waitress just disappeared and never came back to our table. We never got refills and every time I looked over to where the counter was there's legit not even kidding six employee standing there just talking and joking around meanwhile we're waiting for refills . Our waitress never came back to check in on us. They were not busy, so there was no excuse . A different waitress went to the table behind us, and my husband flagged her down to ask for a box and a refill. Which I was surprised that our own waitress didn't take the hint that we were done when we put all our dirty plates towards the edge of the table. The other waitress brought me a refill and a box and we waited forever for our waitress to bring our bill . Thankful you are paying with cash there so we just left our payment on the table and left. I really want to be able to support local independent businesses, but it makes it really hard to do when it feels like a waste of money. It was $44 for two people to have breakfast. It's not cheap anymore to go out to eat. Had to give a HUGE thank you and shout out to Roberta's. Our family has loved everything about this place for decades, but today I was starving and ran up the street from my office to get a late lunch. Forgot they close at 2pm on Wednesdays, walked in at 1:55pm, and not only did I get the nicest welcome like always .... But the kitchen staff were gracious enough to fill one last take out order for the day. I was SO appreciative and enjoyed my fave food even more because it tasted like a perfectly cooked lunch and the kindness it was prepared with. The ladies are always wonderful but gave me an extra iced tea for the road and took the time to chat as they cleaned up for the day. The atmosphere here always takes customers back in time with the decor, but most importantly the spirit and attitude of how things used to be where meals and going out to eat were a privilege and time slowed down to enjoy every aspect of your experience. There's a whiteboard updated with the day's specials. It's spacious and home-y. I ordered the Denver omelette ($11.75). While it was Denver in theory with diced ham, onions, and bell peppers, it was missing cheese. Some cheese would have been nice. I liked that my omelette was unapologetically rough and messy around the edges. The hashbrowns were great - they were buttery with a nice crisp. The club sandwich ($11.45) was also excellent. Bacon, turkey, tomato, lettuce and mayo is sandwiched between lightly toasted white bread. The fries were lightly seasoned and surprisingly very tasty. I used to stop by here often when I lived in the city. I was curious to see if the food tasted the same. The inside looks the same. I love that they still have the same classic cash register. The cashier was friendly and let me get seated in the area that I liked. I asked about the cook and she told me that they still have the same cook. I ordered an Ortega Burger. The burger was delicious. The patty tasted just like I remembered. It was thin and seasoned well. The fries were good. I like that they still leave them saltless so you can salt them to your preference. The restaurant is still cash only. I believe they still have an ATM in the second fining room. My low star review definitely has to do with the service. I have been waiting on writing this review trying to give this place enough chances, hoping it was my imagination that the service is pretty sub-par. Don't get me wrong, the food is plentiful, almost too large of servings, but you can get the abundance of food to go, making it a good value since you will get a second meal. The cooks definitely know what they are doing. This place has a retro vibe. Decorated drenched in nostalgia. Unfortunately, the servers seemed far more interested in counting their tips than attending tables. No one really welcomes you in. If it is your first time here you won't really know if you should seat yourself or wait to be seated. They may or may not acknowledge or direct you. No one really has a smile on their face. Usually, a bunch of servers standing behind the counter on break, waiting for food to come out and avoiding eye contact, but no one really to pour more coffee. You will see your server 3 times, most likely. Once to take your order, second to bring your order, third to drop your check off. I do see them counting their tips over and over. The most helpful person is usually the busser who will tell you they will have to get your server. But at least the busser seems to be working, helpful, and has a smile for you. I've been here enough times, at least a dozen, to officially say I will be not coming back. I like my food to be served with a positive vibe, makes the food more delicious. I can't recommend this place as the food is most always served with an energy of annoyance and a frown.
