As a parent, I cannot stress how amazing a place this is in San Rafael and how lucky we are to have it. Overzealous I know but hear me out: 1. The playground for the kids is a beautifully designed passion project. 2. The coffee is amazing 3. The parking is across the street 4. The bathrooms include a full changing table and pristine. 5. $30 for 2 hours of fun for 2 kids is a bargain in the bay area. I highly recommend (parent wise) getting dressed in easy breathing clothes, it can get a little warm in the playground. read more

My girlfriend and I were planning to meet (with our babies) somewhere for coffee. She suggested Fox and Kit, and all I can is, "Wow!" As soon as you walk in, everything is just...aesthetically pleasing to the eye! Such friendly service. Amazing, beautiful set up from the furniture to the pretty/cute signs around the cafe. The children's area was clean, well kept, and organized. As you enter, there are benches and cubbies to take off your shoes and place your belongings. There were cute sensory viewing windows in the treehouse, a faux grass slide and area, costume room, reading nook, play cave with relaxing blue lights, and soft geometric cushions all around. The bathroom in and out of child play area has a changing table equipped with wipes, diapers, and a comfy changing cushion on top. One thing I especially loved about the whole area is that everything is pretty at a child's height and eye level. Definitely a "for the kids" type! My family and I got our share of espresso drinks and speciality drinks. We loved them all! Such a great place for parents who want to bring their children out while also being able to enjoy themselves (where your child isn't stuck to a high chair and you're worrying about how you can entertain your child while trying to enjoy a little food and drink). read more

I wanted to give this 4 stars, but here's the problem. They raised their prices and don't have very transparent pricing. I got an iced coffee and they charged me $5... but the sign says 3.5 and there are some sizes listed, but the menu is oddly hard to follow, so its unclear with the small print and way they created their menu. They make you buy a tumbler size (which is more money) to go into the play space (which is something like $15 a kid now. I'm still not sure), so I left spending $41 to watch my kids play in an indoor treehouse for 40 mins, have one string cheese for one kid, a coffee for me, and muffin for the other. I'll probably go to PlayTek in San Anselmo or make my own coffee and go to a park instead next time. The kids do like it and the atmosphere is nice, but they usually get bored after 30-40 mins, so we'll see. I love the idea and we've been a few times, but the prices are high for the value. read more

I stopped here on a weekday to study for a few hours. Cute interior design -- very midcentury modern vibes -- beautiful, pleasing, open aesthetic. I was surprised to find out there is no wi-fi offered, as it is a space meant for gathering. While this isn't to discourage people like me stopping by to get some work done, I don't see another reason to ever come by again (to be quite frank). The coffee was average (thus the -1 star) and while the space and concept is very neat, it doesn't really offer me any functional purpose -- but this being said from the perspective of a child-less graduate student... the lack of wi-fi really makes this a non-functional place for me which I know reflects so poorly on me, but is 99.9% of the reason (along with the need for caffeination) I ever frequent any cafe. I can tell the owners really put a lot of time and love into this space. Don't get me wrong, I think Fox & Kit is great and very appealing, and offers something unique to a lot of Marin families, however, I know I will probably not be coming back. Love the concept of this place! Kicking my butt for not thinking if it first. The coffee was great (love me some temple) and had a tasty little chocolate croissant at a decent price. Overall would for sure comeback to try more. However, my only complaint with this new joint is that it charges an astronomical amount to utilize the playground. Yes, there is an attendant that watches your children while you're able to work away. But I mean $15 to play for 2hrs and a sibling is $12 extra? That's pretty crazy. You market yourself as a place to bring kids but with those prices, not many people are going to be willing to pay that and will find themselves walking to the local parks. If the price was like $5 bucks maybe I'd pay it, but just maybe. Unfortunately I won't be returning anytime soon with my kids in tow. But I am willing to keep coming back for the coffee. read more

UPDATE: per Devin's response, I got a few things wrong, so updating. This might be the most visually appealing and beautifully designed coffee shop and indoor playground for kids I've ever seen. Well, I can honestly say outside of old school McDonald's with playgrounds I've rarely seen restaurants with playgrounds. Anyway, let's get to the good stuff. The coffee is really good, they use a roaster from Sacramento, Temple, and my pour over was delicious. There is a nice selection of some pastries - the lemon poppyseed muffin and mini almond croissant were both very good. The mini croissant was just a smidge dry, but overall very good. What's really great is there are loots of cool and different tables and chairs, each has various books that are great books for paging through and looking at, many of which my toddler enjoyed. Once you take the kids into the play area they will transfer your coffee over to a really nice ceramic mug with a top on it to prevent spills. In my case my coffee just came in that because they knew I was going in. Now onto that amazing indoor park, gym, fort, whatever you'd like to call it; it's amazing. I took my 2.5 year old daughter here and she didn't want to leave. A few important notes: - there's a $9-14 price range depending on how old your kid is to play in the play area for 2 hours (that doesn't surprise me nor is out of wack with other activities my daughter does like music class, swim and gymnastics, all of which are at least $15-20 and only last 30-45 minutes). - kids and parents need to wear socks for hygiene reasons which I can appreciate, but they have them for purchase there for $2 for kids. - you can explore the space too, it's pretty awesome though tight squeeze for me - there are nature sounds playing, a nook with books and a nook with costumes, the ambiance is perfect for kids 2-10years old Not gonna lie, I'm a little envious I didn't think of this idea. The owners were there, very nice people, and definitely glad to have this new addition to San Rafael. One quick note, no WiFi as they want to encourage engagement but I did see a couple people working too. read more

What a special place. As a coffee drinker, the quality surpasses other shops in San Rafael. I'd compare the quality and price to Equator. They have to-go cups but if you're sitting down your drink is delivered in beautiful navy and spruce colored mugs and kids really seem to get the royal treatment here. My son's steamed milk with whipped cream was served in a stainless steel cup + silicone straw + lid with a little bowl of fluffy whipped cream on the side. Eco friendly? The baristas were warm and engaging. Do you want your pastry heated up? Oh, I can have whipped cream on my apple turnover? Seriously, this place has turned getting coffee into a luxury. As a mom, this place takes the cake. At the back of the cafe is a modernistic fairytale like play-space with a hill for climbing, walls for scaling and more than enough space to roll around and explore. According to the staff the play space won't be open for a couple more weeks and there will be some type of pricing structure. For now the well designed seating of the cafe more than suits my needs. There is an enclosed carpeted (shoe free) area for putting babies down while you sip and nosh. There are beautiful coffee table books for all ages and the wicker hanging chairs in the window are an Instagram selfie-takers dream. read more

This goes to my very first review in yelp. Once I walked in the coffee shop, I texted my cousin to tell her: "this interior design is to die for". And it is. It has an atmosphere that I've never seen before and felt really inspired in this place. In my opinion, this is what I needed after a not so good week at school and job. Amidst my streaming reel of post-pandemic pleasures I am fantasizing about (vacation to anywhere! Unfettered access to rice and TP! working from my office!) one place my mind has repeatedly come back to is Fox & Kit. There isn't anyplace like F&K around, and the smile and squeals that my toddler son makes when coming here are pure expressions of joy. Adult me still has some oohs and ahhs in response to its sumptuous decor, tastefully selected magazines and books, and very potent coffee and espresso. Little kid me emerges when I enter the playground, crawl through the cave with him, chase him up the fort and down the grass slide. We can (and have) play in here for hours, and as full-time working mama I am so grateful for a fun space to connect with him and meet him on his level, while meeting friends and having delicious coffee and pastries at the same time. Mama musings aside, this is a great destination for anyone, with or without kids. I had always grumbled about Downtown San Rafael's lack of good coffee, but never thought that cafe would come along that made both Mama and kiddo happy. This is a very cute coffee shop. They are very kid friendly with a playground and changing station in both bathrooms. The bathrooms are very clean and have some diapers, wipes, and everything you would need for changing. The playground is paid. However, I like that it is sound proof that you will not hear a thing from your sitting area. The sitting area is quite spacious with some working tables and couches. However they do not have WiFi so be aware of that if you want to come here to work/ study. The coffee is good. My Bf got an expresso and he liked it. I got caramel latte, it's not too sweet, basically it's a basic latte. I like the setup and vibe here but was bumped out that they don't have wifi. If you just want a cup of coffee with some chats, this is the place for you to go. If you want to sit down and study, it may not be the best choice. read more

This place was about a 35 mins drive for me, an investment I don't mind making on a regular basis if my toddler can spend his energy. The big draw is obviously it's indoor playground. However, there are so many kids over the weekend, there is a waiting list. While I understand the concept of the waiting list, at least put a small waiting area with some toys outside while the kids wait to go in. Once inside, the structure looks big but really isn't all that much. Not much climbing, not much steps, only one slide. Nobody really cared for the reading nook or costume closet. Could have been better designed. The play area is one space shared by waiting parents, young toddlers, all the way up to older kids. Thus it was chaos to say the least. My son didn't care for it too much, neither did we. We will not be returning. read more

I came here with my 16 month old and wasn't impressed. The service and staff was cold and uninterested. Prices are on the high side, a can of a specialty soda was $5. They assumed my kid was over 2 years old and charged me that price until I clarified with them that he was only 16 months. She did not seem apologetic or surprised about the error. The play area is not really for younger toddlers and there's really not much to do in there. Afterwards, my kid caught a nasty cold a few days later. I had noticed there was another child coughing but I disregarded it (totally on me). I don't think I will be visiting again. read more

This is by far the best cafe in the San Rafael area for great coffees, pastries, and other nibbles in the best designed space in probably all of Marin. And that's just the cafe! There's an entire indoor kids play space that is just adorable and super creative. You won't find it's equal anywhere in all of Marin. The service team is super friendly and helpful even when they are slammed. Parking is also easy with a city lot directly across the street. 2nd time here today. The kids had a blast once again. They love playing in the play area. It's a good place to take them to burn off some energy and allows me to get my coffee lol. They have costumes that kids can wear and play with. Got a little tree house and a reading area for the kids with books. They came out and brought in the cake and drinks and put everything on platters and ice buckets. Their coffee is excellent as well. Found this place after visiting Marin. There is street parking with a meter and a parking garage you pay for nearby. Otherwise, parking is a bit challenging. I love the interior design and overall concept here. I don't have kids but if I was a parent this would definitely be my coffee shop. The aesthetic is very girly and modern with rose gold, pink, and green colors. The bathroom has a mommy area with diapers and other mom stuff (not a mom don't know) and the toilet can we changed into kid friendly. Drinks were good. Decent price. I can't speak to the food which certainly looks appealing but I can tell you the coffee is amazing. So much so I keep thinking about how much I'd like some even when I'm at home with my two espresso machines. They have a kids play area that is in a separate room so parents can get a break and kids can have a blast and no one in the cafe even hears the kids. I had a cafe like that when my kids but this one makes me jealous that these parents have that but that's Marin compared with Oakland, at least Oakland 15 years ago. The decor is modern and fun with hanging chairs, comfortable sofas and lounge chairs and regular cafe seats. Take your pick. Internet as well. Very well thought out. My new favorite place. read more

This place is so cute and cozy! It has a beautiful aesthetic and modern ambiance. There's an indoor playground, but it is blocked off with a glass wall and door, so don't worry about it getting too loud from kids playing. The seating area isn't huge, but I think this place is worth visiting for the ambiance itself. With that said, the coffee was great also! I got a pumpkin spice latte, and I really enjoyed that it wasn't overly sweet and you can still taste the coffee unlike some pumpkin spice lattes in other places. If you want a truly premium feeling birthday party for your kid, this is the place. We celebrated our 4 year old yesterday and the service and experience was first class all around. From the moment we walked in, their friendly staff took over... setting up food in beautiful platters, garnishing, setting up drinks in ice buckets. I was literally told to just sit back and relax, and I was truly able to do that. We chose the space themed decor which was so beautiful and the entire place is so thoughtfully designed (both the cafe and the gorgeous playground). The kids had a blast and the parents raved about the fact that they could enjoy themselves too (with really high quality espresso drinks) while the kids could play freely in a safe setting. I am a regular at this shop. I come in here to study medicine about once a week, and I have been ever since I started school. I love the coffee, food is good, and the service has been excellent. I usually purchase at least one coffee and some sort of pastry every time I come in. Today, I walked in, got all my stuff out to start studying and had not purchased any food or drinks yet. A tall caucasian male who appeared to be either a manager or an owner approached me very briskly and told me in a very rude and condescending manner that I need to "buy a coffee to sit here"- in those exact words. He was very impolite and not customer-oriented. He could've handled the situation much better than he did. He told another friend of mine the same thing and added that "these are 3,000 dollar chairs"...Will not be returning sadly. read more

I didn't give it 5 starts because it's so expensive, but it is indeed worth it. I came here on a Saturday morning with a friend and our kids, 4 very active preschoolers. We were able to let the kids play inside the playground under the supervision of the girl who works there, and mom friend and I sat and drank coffee and were able to have a conversation for a good 45 minutes, before any of the kids came out looking for us. They were all dressed up in costumes, having the time of their lives. If you have little children you will understand how a-mazing that is, and why we justify paying $15 per kid for the use of the playground; sometimes there's nothing more priceless than an hour of coffee and peace. Though they did give us a discount for being there with multiples - I think it ended up being $12 per each kid but I'm not entirely sure. read more

This coffee shop is so cute!!! It's smaller than I thought it would be on the inside, but that's only because the other side is blocked off for the children's play area. On a late Sunday morning it was pretty crowded, so we didn't get to sit down. However, everything in this coffee shop was so pretty and aesthetically pleasing-- I adore the color scheme. The playhouse & coffee shop combination is one of a kind and I love it. I ordered an iced chai and a chocolate croissant warmed up. My dining companion ordered a cold brew and a danish. The danish was huge and had a perfect mix of tartness to sweetness !!! The cold brew had a deeply rich and bold coffee flavor on top of being super smooth. The chai wasn't as sweet as a typical chain coffee shop chai. You could taste the tea that was put into making it and it was perfect with the sweetness of the chocolate croissant (it was so good, I forgot to take pictures). Can't wait to try more! read more

There are so many amazing things I could say about this place. The service, quality of their drinks and foods (especially the breakfast sandwich) and the ambiance of this place is to die for. As a student at a university near by, I was always looking for a cute place to have coffee and do homework at sometimes and this is the place. Love this place so much and am so happy to have stumbled upon a feature of them on Instagram. I checked it out first with my daughter and she may have taken awhile to adjust, but when she did, she had so much fun! I love that you can have your coffee in a tumbler(provided by the cafe. Coffee is great) and take it into the playroom. I love that was able to play with my daughter throughout the play structure. The whole place is so thoughtfully designed and so aesthetically pleasing. We booked my daughters 2nd birthday here and it was basically hands off planning. They had everything ready. The decor was beautiful and provided by them and even took the decor we brought in and hung it up themselves. They presented the food we brought in on their serveware and everyone loved the open espresso bar. Everyone had so much fun. They even give you 2 free admission tickets after your event for the play structure on your next visit to the cafe. We absolutely love this place!! read more
