When you reach the top the left side is the "easier" side up to the top and the right side is more stone stairs that is a shorter distance, but tougher climb. We took the left side going up and down. There are large rock areas along the way, which might make it difficult if you have mobility problems. Otherwise, it was a bit wet on the path in places, but it had rained a good bit of the day before. The whole path is a light incline the entire way up, but an easy decline on the way down. There are no sitting areas along the path when you reached the top there are two overlooked areas. The better view is the one all the way to the right there is a sign, noting the continental divide on either side of White side Mountain very cool. It was definitely worth the hike. It took us about 30 minutes to get to the top. I saw people with dogs and children a lot. It is a very family friendly activity.

The park…read moreis one of the cooler State parks in North Carolina that I have had the pleasure of experiencing. I am a mountain type of person and I am really glad that public access has been provided to these cliffs and this Area. Rumbling Bald park host several great hiking trails through massive boulder fields and spectacular hardwood forests. The main draw for the park has to be for Bouldering and Rock Climbing. While hiking or walking through the woods in the winter/spring it is certain you'll see lots of people climbing up and down rocks. Thanks to the park staff for creating a viable parking lot for the park too. When you come here make sure to try and park as closely together as you can. It can get packed on the weekends. Also, don't double park or block anyone, or else you'll get a ticket. I really hope they access can be opened to the other cliff areas around the lake, like Ghost Town and the Darkside, which are currently closed.. 1 suggestion is to avoid this place in the summer, as it turns into a oven with the south-facing rocks, and there is poison ivy all over the place. Go enjoy the outdoor wander around some rocks.

Looking Glass Rock Overlook is awesome!…read more What makes this spot so special? 1) It is one of the best places to view LOOKING GLASS ROCK, a huge monolith that, as the Nat'l Forest Service describes: "rises from the surrounding forest like a sentinel." It is said that once upon a time, The Appalachian Mountain chain was taller than the Rockies, but the softer sandstones eroded over time leaving the harder rocks we know today. Looking Glass Rock is volcanic in nature making it harder and denser than most of the surrounding earth and did not erode as the rest of the mountain did. 2) You can also access the mountain to sea trail just across the parkway that leads to Skinny Dip Falls! If you are not in a terrible hurry, the walk to the falls should only take up about an hour of your time. Or you could spend several hours there playing in the many crystal clear pools of water along the many levels of the falls. The Parkway overlooks always give you the above sea level elevation and Looking Glass Rock Overlook is about 4,492 feet. Comparatively, the highest elevation on the parkway is Richland Balsam @ 6,053 feet, which is about 14.5 miles west of this overlook. The lowest point on the parkway is the James River Visitor Center in Virginia @ 649 feet. [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] If you haven't heard, The Blue Ridge Parkway is also known as AMERICA'S FAVORITE DRIVE. It is 469 miles long, but it won't take you even a fraction of that to see why it has this nickname. It is absolutely beautiful most times of the year but ESPECIALLY in the fall! If you are looking for a way to get out and still remain socially distanced, I can't really think of a better way than driving this amazing road. It is estimated there are 65 waterfalls just off the Parkway and hundreds more within a mile or two of the parkway. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND visiting Lineville Falls, Mingo Falls, Crabtree Falls, Looking Glass Falls, Mount Mitchell and visiting the mile high swinging bridge @ Grandfather Mountain. Luckily the staff was friendly and helpful with getting me set up with a (comfy Petzel!) rental harness and shoes. Check in and cash out was quick & easy. With the auto belay system for several routes of varying difficulty (I was able to do several within my skill range - 5.6 - 5.8) and attempt a couple of 5.9s) you could easily spend a few hours here even solo. I just had an hour but mission accomplished: several climbs fully completed, a couple attempted, and a good workout to break up hours of work travel. The gym was clean, the climbs were interesting, and the helpful staff was appreciated. Will definitely visit while traveling through again!

Found out about this place while…read moresearching for a rock climbing facility that could help my son complete his climbing merit badge for Boy Scouts and I'm so glad we discovered Adrenaline climbing! When we came the first day we were helped by Dima and Dani who helped me to get in touch with the owner to set up a private session for my son to complete his requirements left for a merit badge he had partially completed. After emailing the owner he replied promptly and helped me set up a date where his staff would be ready and be able to set up for the climbing merit badge course. On the day of the lesson we were greeted by Connor who was very kind and helpful and ended up being the one who was the teacher for my son. He was very thorough and easy to learn from. My second son wanted to tag along with us and was able to explore the facilities and learn about the fun and excitement of rock climbing at Adrenaline Climbing! I definitely plan on returning on another day to help my sons further their enjoyment of climbing. In any case this review is for a job well done by the staff of Adrenaline Climbing and a glowing recommendation for a seamless and fun experience. They also have a deal where the day passes are only $5 between 8-10pm on tuesdays and thursdays. Although this gym isn't as big or fancy as other commercial gyms, it still has a variety of bouldering and rope climbing routes. And the levels of the routes are pretty difficult compared to other places I've been to so I have been thoroughly challenged every time I step my foot in there. I personally liked that there were a lot of auto belay routes because it lets me go rope climbing without needing a partner! Something I wish the gym had is a spray wall area to warm up and do drills on. But I get that the place is small and probably can't dedicate an entire wall for just warm up. Also, the floor here is kind of hard. It is indeed padded so it's totally safe but i took me a few sessions to get used to because it was harder than the mats at other gyms.

A heads up from the get-go, this is not a rope-based climbing gym. They're in a warehouse without…read morehigh ceilings so top rope and course setting including clip-in points is not a thing here. There is another place in Boone for that, though admittedly their hours are much shorter. I was happy to find this place open on a Saturday evening until 10pm. There's plenty of wall space if there are just a few climbers here but I bet it can easily get crowded. There is lots of other equipment for cross training, but most of it is quite dated. Like something your dad or uncle had in their garage in their teens and 20s. A rusted fan-bike and nylon wrapped, thin foam padded bench. There's a cool "moon board" on the opposite side of the gym at a 40 degree angle. I personally have a hard enough time climbing vertical walls though. There are some rings and balls suspended from the ceiling for you to impress your friends or yourself with some gymnastics level moves. And of course lots of fingerboard options. Normally a Saturday would be packed I bet but I came in during an event elsewhere in town that was specifically popular with the climbing types. So I basically had the gym to myself. At a price of $14 (I brought my own shoes and chalk, not sure if they rent them) it was in line with the gym back home in Charlotte. There's a waiver process that will take you a few minutes to complete. The bathrooms are large and there's a relatively limited amount of cubby space to put your stuff. The hand holds felt tight and I didn't find a single spinner. I was able to clear all of their V0s, most of their V1s and one of their V2s. As you can see I'm barely a bouldering beginner but I will say these seemed to fall in line with my expectation for difficulty. Lastly, the music choice for the evening I was there was not kid friendly and not really to my liking. I imagine it would be different on crowded days or if children were here. All considered though, I would definitely come back.
