I recently purchased two 26 Tiguans. The purchase process was great. Unfortunately the sales person left shortly after the purchases. I had sold the dealership a Ram truck and was told at the time I would have my check within a couple days. Fast forward nearly a month and still no check. Somehow the dealership can sell the vehicle I sold them in @ a week's time but can't pay me what is owed because they are waiting on paperwork. They somehow are worried that I can come back and claim the truck is still mine or there might be a title issue. Even though I'm sure a title check was completed and payoff was confirmed. But none of those issues hindered them from immediately selling the vehicle. The best part is no one returns phone calls. I went into the dealership two days ago and of course the manger was not in. I was told "Someone will call you back today." Three days later no call back. They will happily take your money. Don't expect any follow up from them afterwords. read more

Service department consultant never gives any updates. Services take over 2 hrs. I came in at 0750 am for a tire change only no alignment no car wash just switch out and change all four tires. I was checked in and told by Glenn Mungo it'll roughly be 90 minutes - 2hrs. It took them three hours. I watched as Glenn went to everyone else in the waiting area to give updates but never came to give me an update. At the 2 hr mark I had to go and ask and he had the audacity to tell me to "be patient, it takes time" & that a guy that came after me was " waiting". Waiting for two hrs without any updates is being more than patient enough when a typical tire change with mounting and balancing is normally a 45-60 min job. Customer service here is the worst. They only care about money and never tell you if they have specials online. The last time I brought my car her for a repair it took them over a month bc the part kept coming in broken and they apparently don't look at the parts before scheduling you to come in. They don't treat you like family here. And even leave the sticky residue on your windshield after an oil change. Poor quality of customer service. Even when you call for information no one seems to know anything and you get transferred 3-4 times before they get you to the proper person. Please go to a different location for your Volkswagen. They never do anything to make things right or apologize for any inconveniences. Supervisor Matt in service also very rude. I said excuse me to him trying to get his attention 4 times and I said it loud enough bc other people waiting turned and he kept walking past like I didn't say anything. read more

I had a horrible experience with them, I purchased in good faith and for the full asking price a 1989 Mercedes 560SL that was decribed as Excellent condition with 21K original miles and was verified by their people to be rust free. When I received the car and upon full inspection we found rust issues although not bad, there was rust. When they got it titled it came back mileage discrepancy. When I spoke with them they said the weren't responsible because the car was sold on consignment, this car was advertised on their website, their company was paid for the car and all paperwork was done through the dealership name. They would do nothing for me. This in my opinion is fraud and at the very least and very poor way to run a business. I strongly advise you to think twice before dealing with these fraudsters. They should refund my money plus reasonable damages. I had rust issues fixed, wheels refinished and all fluids changed because they said they took care of and didn't. My attorney told me I could go after them for triple damages because of the fraud committed, standby. read more

They do not honor Toyota SmartPath pricing and their website does not reflect the actual vehicle price. We received an emailed quote which matched the SmartPath price. When we arrived to purchase the vehicle we were informed the vehicle was $4,900 more because it included a protection package. They stated that they aren't required to honor SmartPath pricing and it's a dealer decision not to disclose the additional cost online. Back today as I have to update everything. There is now a whole new management team in which my issues were all passed on to them - which is also a part of the new management team. I ended up able to come in today to have my wheel locks removed and replaced with normal wheel bolts. They took care od this no charge for me. I had a sit down with the new GM who was very nice and listened to everything that happened (they had seen all my reviews and emails between my salesman Carlos) - they were very apologetic although it was under another team of people - however understood everything that happened. They finally owned up to what happened and even gave me an account credit for service. Which was a great gesture that i will deff use for my next few oil changes. (I typically do all my own work as i am an "retired" mechanic. They then proceeded to do a minindetail on my car - vacuum - interior wipe down - air freshner - washed the exterior - and tire shine. For today I am impressed. They owned up to the mistakes and took care of what they could for me. I appreciate the talk and the credit from the GM (I apologize I cannot recall her name.) My wife and I purchased a certified pre-owned auto from Fox Valley early in the year, I want to relay a couple things you should watch out for. First, the team here is no better than any other deceptive auto dealers you may have come across at some point. On our first visit we test drove several autos, one of which we found to have several defects and we let them know we were definitely not interested in that particular auto. On our second visit, they let us know that they had JUST received in a new auto and we need to check it out. While we were test driving this car, we realized it was the SAME car we had driven one week prior, they tried to cover up the defects and cleaned up the inside. This is clear deceptive practice, and should be a warning to anyone dealing with these folks. Second, and this is the reason for the one star review, we asked the dealer to please not run our credit since we were in the process of buying a house and we did not want any dings against our credit. We were planning to purchase the car in cash, no need for credit, simple right? Well guess what, despite being assured that our credit was not being run, sure enough a credit inquiry shows up on our credit history now for Fox Valley VW. read more

Don't take your car for service here. I got an oil change, and a few thousand miles later the car won't accelerate. I take it in, and they tell me there's absolutely no oil left in the engine. Complete engine failure along with a messed up turbo part. The car is gonna be at the shop for months AND I still have to pay a monthly payment for a car I don't have? Everyone was friendly and helpful. No hard sell. Several team members went out of their way to resolve things in ways that they didn't have to. Patrick was especially helpful and pleasant to work with. We went in as cash buyers, looking for a particular car we'd seen in their inventory via Autotrader. Where other dealers might have tried to upsell to another model or push hard to switch us to financing, these guys respected our intentions from the start. Since we were buying a certified preowned vehicle, it came with a warranty. But we live almost an hour from this dealership. So they helped us find a VW dealership closer to home where they had personal experience and felt that we would be taken good care of for maintenance purposes. They were so pleasant to deal with, I'd kind of prefer to use their maintenance department; but that's a long way to drive just for that. So I was very pleased that they were willing to personally vouch for another dealership where a member of their staff had worked previously. Most of the details regarding purchase price and APR were done over the phone in advance, so when we arrived it was just a matter of doing a quick test drive around the block and then signing the paperwork. My one critique was with the agent we worked with, as he came off as condescending and seemed to be trying to rush us out the door. FV VW didn't have one but for $1K they could do a dealer locate and have the exact car I wanted on their lot in 2 days, 3 days tops. I gave them my money, never was sent a receipt. In the mean time I made arrangements to sell my car to a private party the timing of the transaction schedule for several days after my new was to arrive. You can guess the rest. FV VW con artist couldn't deliver on what they promise. Never bothered to offer me a loaner car till they got their shit together and found me what they promise. I had to update my review based on an unfortunate situation that took place after the sale. First, David in finance was fast and efficient. Shay, the sales manager was helpful with getting the documents for my outside financing. This is where the happiness ends, however. After doing a walk around of the vehicle that started at the motor, proceeded to the passenger side, around the back and up to the drivers side, the salesperson had the drivers door open for me to test drive. First mistake on my part. I did not inspect the door panel as I had the rest of the vehicle. As a former car salesman, I should have known better as I myself did the same thing to hide things I didn't want a prospective customer to see. When I got home, I discovered the damage to the driver's side door as you can see in the picture I've posted. Clearly, there was an attempt to touch up then wet sand that went wrong. This is a certified pre-owned VW Tiguan, by the way. I let my guard down because it was certified. The dealerships I've worked for (which sold Toyota, Subaru, GM, Chrysler, & Kia products) would never allow a CPO vehicle on the lot with this kind of damage. Toyota corporate would NEVER allow it! So, shame on me. However, the certification document that, yes, I signed, stated the vehicle was free of damage. On the way home, I also discovered my phone was almost dead. The DC outlets were not functional. Again, outlets checked off on the checklist that they were working. Knowing my way around cars, I went to the glove box to find the Owner's Manual to get the fuse diagram. No manual either! This is an expectation for all CPO vehicles. Ok, no problem, I found a PDF online. I replaced the fuse myself rather than trying to take it to the dealer for something so simple, but still concerned that perhaps this vehicle was not as "certified" as the checklist indicated. I proceeded to contact VW corporate, knowing that dealers will NEVER take responsibility for anything after the sale hoping that they could use their influence to assist in getting this door panel repaired to their standards. They were not interested in seeing the photo below, but were courteous and seemed concerned. After they contacted the dealership, the sales manager (Shay), as expected, stated that because it was not brought up during the rushed sale of the vehicle, they were not going to do anything. They did agree to mail me an Owner's Manual. Woot! So, lesson to anyone going to Fox Valley VW. They have high stars on Google Reviews because they use software called Podium to solicit feedback right away to your phone. Do NOT fill out a survey until you've fully and I mean FULLY inspected any pre-owned vehicle from them. Drive it, have your mechanic and body shop inspect it (don't trust CarFax or AutoCheck) they notoriously do not report frame damage if the customer pays cash for repairs. They will not find out so it looks clean to the average consumer. Some shops won't report the frame damage either. I'm embarrassed that I missed this obvious damage, however, it goes to show even someone who was in the business for 5 years can get dupped. At the end of the day, I will pay to have the panel fixed because I can't live with the damage, however, I want the world to know that this 4.1 review score on Google Reviews is NOT accurate. Fox Valley VW is a typical dealer, with typical sales managers and ownership who have no pride in their product and only care about their bottom line. Everyone is entitled to make a buck, but it really shouldn't be dishonestly. This was my first VW product and most likely my last based on the lack of influence VW has over their dealer network. Again, this would never be tolerated with a Certified Pre-Owned Toyota, Subaru, GM, or Kia (all the brands I've sold or been in management over). read more

Took my car for an express oil change and was told I need an appointment, but their web site clearly states otherwise. Brought it in for my appointment and it took them nearly three hours - for a simple oil change. I was also told I needed new wipers, although I had just installed some. "Wipers are $50 but installation is FREE" - sounds like install is included in the price. Service advisor told me he used to work at another dealership that didn't care about their customers (unsolicited advice). Seems like he brought that attitude with him. I would never degrade a competitor. I would simply prove my merit instead. I've been duped by these guys twice with other issues. It won't happen again. read more

Don't know why reviews say honest. They advertise prices that they can't honor in addition to finance deals. I get it because most dealerships do it but it's still not "honest". Just advertise the higher price online rather than trying to scam people like everyone else. The car i test drove had a sunroof that was broken- tried to argue it wasn't. Found out at a later dealership it was programmed wrong. Also had a leak in the turbo. Why isn't service checking these things before selling a brand new car? Ended up buying my Jetta elsewhere and got a better deal for a higher model. Not the worst experience here but would try others first. read more

We purchased a certified pre-owned vehicle for an elderly relative from this place. BIG MISTAKE!! The care was much cheaper than other dealerships, so that should have given us a hint that something was off. The car has had nothing but serious problems (A/C breaking down in the summer, needs break job, battery dead) within a few months after purchasing the car. Wouldn't you know it, NONE of these problems are covered under the warranty. You'd have better luck buying a car from Craigslist than these guys. We reached out to see if they'd stick by their certified car and have the decency to fix some of these items, but they obviously wanted to charge for it. I'd rather give the business to somebody else. I didn't think dealerships still operated like this, but they do. Save yourself a big headache and go somewhere else. Also, the finance guy was a joke. He quoted us a really high rate, then when we showed him we had our own loan, he magically dropped the quoted rate. I should have read the YELP reviews first, especially the reviews that are "not recommended." Looks like there is a history/pattern of behavior with this dealership. read more

I would have the used car sales manager not get involved in the sales of the cars. I'm long time customer of fox valley Schaumburg location. I know everyone there and bought 5 cars from them. I came to this location for the used MK7 R that dealer had. Test drove both and ended up buying one. All I'm going to advise as that process of the buying the car wasn't enjoyable. Seemed that the use car sales manager was very annoyed and he just wanted to get his sale. It just didn't sit right with me. Now we did talk numbers and I feel it was fair. The dealer is pretty far from me, as I advised before the Schaumburg location is my main hub. Though I'd probably not be going back to buy another vehicle due to my experience. After more review with other people I know in the fox valley family, was advised that sale manager can be hard work with. The for my Sales guy, very friendly, easy to talk with, I highly recommend him. He made it very easy, welcoming vibe. I've had the car for couple days now. I have listed issues that I'm having with the car. I made an appointment with my tech to look over the car and get things fixed. Lucky the car is still under the warranty so everything should be covered. The dealer is very nice, first time at this location. Sales area and service area is very nice. This place is a total JOKE!!! They advertised a car online. I drive 40 miles to the dealership with a pocket full of cash ready to buy it. When I arrive they tell me the car is at the muffler shop. If I want to put down a deposit they will hold the car for me when it gets back "later that day". They called me later in the day and said they are "waiting on some parts" and the car won't be ready for 2 more days. After the 2 more days is up, I call and they say they're still waiting for parts. I went and bought another car somewhere else because they were playing games. I go back and ask for me deposit back and they issue the refund. 2 days later the deposit is still not on my card. I call them and they say it takes 7-10 days to get your refund. What a joke. I wasted 2 trips out there for a car they had advertised and they gave me the runaround the entire time. During this time my rear bumper was damaged because the car was moved in and out of the shop so many times before it was repaired! Worst Experience I ever had in my life time (regardless of buying anything) - I would rate in minus if there is an option to do so Things they did really bad for me when doing business with them for used car (07 BMW 5 series) - I found a oil leak when I did a pre-inspection and told the dealer before I bought.. The dealer service dept then inspected and said it was just overflow when an oil change was done and nothing to worry about. Which was totally wrong and sold a crap car to us (they gave a 1000 miles guarantee for the oil leak) - the exact miles in the car was 72,431.. but purposely in records they have put 72,231 just to cheat me a 200 miles to cover up their 1000 mile warranty to make it as 800 miles which I just noticed after 2 days only. - I bought a extended warranty with them for $4,500 "platinum" bumper to bumper. but the receipt for that was missing along with all the other documents they gave to us which I noticed in my home. I called "Ed" from Finance Department and asked him.. he then scanned and emailed me back after my 5th follow up call.after seeing the receipt I saw I was cheated that he signed up for "gold" which is just basic stuff and it costs $3700.. But he charged me $4500 for a "platinum" - My wife had a pre-approval already when we took this car out from this dealer. it took few days from her CU to process the final check and sent it back to this dealer. In between without our attention "Ed" from finance department ran not 1 or 2.. but 7 hard inquires on her credit. we were devastated when we came to know after a month when it got reflected in Credit karma.. I called "Ed" immediately and yelled at him but he was replying very cool.. "that's what we do"!! really?? this is how u do a business?? playing with others credit history?? I told him so many times that we already had a pre-approval.. just that we want them to get him the final amt check from our CU. but he never bothered about that all..7 hard inquires now really impacts my wife's credit score and history... it will take next 2 years to clear it up. - After I took the car to my home within a week I found the oil was leaking badly and took to them saying there is definitely a oil leak. they took to a local service center and returned my car after several days saying it is fixed now. - That same day I also went to Finance department to meet "Ed" and told him we don't need the Extended warranty anymore and we want to cancel it (the extended warranty offered 60 days money back guarantee ) he took a sheet that says application and took sign from my wife and said ok.. don't worry your money will be refunded in full in about 4 to 6 weeks. but he never submitted anything - In-fact I came to know that he never ever submitted our original Extended warranty application in the beginning when we bought the car but they took $4500 from us. I figured out this by calling that extended warranty company CS and checking the status of our refund after 6 weeks.. They said your name, address not even your Car's VIN is in our system.. that time I came to know I was cheated. I was even imagining that the person "Ed" from finance took our money and did scam. I immediately reached him asking for the refund status and he was replying very cool - "we have applied.. it will take some time'. I said I have directly called the CS and they said they don't have us in our system at all. Then he was very much alerted and said u will get your money back in 2 weeks.. I don't know what he did but I received a check.. its a 4.5 grand money for almost 2 months got lost somewhere.. and it came back to us after all. - I also found the car did not have a user manual. it cost me 50 bugs when I buy it ebay. - The car did not come with Navigation DVD though the car was equipped with Navigation. I was to wait for almost 2 months to get a cd from them.. again I have to fight with them to get that. There is still few more bad things to say but this itself shows their incredible customer car service and the way they do their business. Clearly no one was taking care of us at any point of time and every time I have to fight for simple things to happen. They were so lazy and careless. I'LL NEVER EVER EVEN GO BACK TO THIS DEALER EVER AGAIN. Horrible place to take a vehicle for repairs. Was charged $70 and told we needed to spend $900 for carbon cleaning we had done at another dealer 6,000 miles ago. When I said it had been done they had the nerve to question if the other dealer actually did the work. It was running so bad we ended up towing it to the other dealer. When they looked at it it was actually rust/moisture on the coils causing bad spark. Not part of the previous repairs. Towing $150 plus diagnosis charge of almost $70 out of our pocket for no reason. I. Problems last year a. June 2010: Replacement of protective strip, on top of back bumper, a real hassle. First told to order and dealership would replace; "it shouldn't be a problem". Upon picking up protective strip, told it had to go to a body shop, VW doesn't do that kind of work. After consulting with local body shop, NOT related to dealership, given a price a fraction of initial estimate from VW recommended body shop. II. Problems since June 8th a. Car flooded during heavy rain, ruins TCM unit and causes other related problems. Initial report that drains from car-hood "failed" and that led to flooding. b. Initial diagnostic promised for an "hour", takes two days. On the phone was promised a same day analysis, but Fischer thought that was immediately unrealistic, got the standard "I don't know who told you that, but..." So we had to take a rental car - that did cost money. i. Originally promised car for the end of that week, June 17, (Invoice opened 13 June). From there left to continue asking for when car would be ready. c. Initial list of problems grows, dealership has to be called to get information. This will happen repeatedly. d. Installation of first TCM "fails", have to wait for second (from Germany?). Long write up of failure of first unit. Due to splicing or wetness or? No clear answer is given on invoice from Fox Valley VW. e. To "unclog" the sunroof drains and clean up dampness cost $780? Then shown later that real fix simple cutting off of final exit drain in door - shown this by service manager later. That cost so much? Also, something you all just "do," not a VW official fix. III. Issues: a. The car repair, initially related to us as straight-forward , would take all of two weeks. Over the two week period we had to repeatedly act in a proactive fashion, calling the dealership when we was promised phone calls. This is true of the service manager and our "service advisor" Mark Fischer. i. On at least two occasions we called right at the end of the day - 4:30pm, to be told, "Oh, I was just going to call..." b. No sincere effort was made to explain, as the process of TCM failure and replacement, reordering, etc. of what was the problem. We felt like we had to weasel the answers out of the service people. We are not sure if they are just used to having their work taken without question, but there was a real air of not being interested in explaining. c. We had to be pro-active with VW corporate and our insurance to try and see why these issues resulted in failure. Lee was told by Fischer that VW was not responsible for the leak because we were supposed to have had the car serviced with 20,000 miles of the last repair of the sunroof (which turned out to be a VW defect and they reimbursed us). However, we hadn't driven 20,000 since then! He had no answer, except that we must park under trees - also incorrect. Avoiding liability? d. The service manager was belligerent on the phone and rather curt in person. In a conversation with him he kept telling Lee that he was simply "blaming the product," which we still don't understand. He made it clear that we had to expect such problems (!). When Lee picked up the car, Fischer was a bit more friendly, but not obviously so. When dealing with him but thought that all the wiring bits, dirt, and interior damage was not a big deal. He only spoke with me that day because Lee spoke with the store manager, Christina W. e. After being handed a bill for $3372.11, Lee could only get Fischer to give me about three minutes of explanation. Lee had to insist on talking with the manager present - Christina - to actually get more information. Only then did the sales manager come out and try and discuss some of the issues. He did not really seem that interested either. Lee told her of all the issues and she was the first person at the dealership to show any interest at all. i. Car returned a mess. It was very dirty (inside and out), had bits of wire on the floor and a whole punched in the leather side of the passenger door. No consideration for a job well-finished? f. Now we realize that we should have taken specific notes on who we spoke with and who promised or said what specifically. IV. Overall: a. Feel that multiple people at the dealership either lied or acted in a way to avoid any commitment to us as to concerns about the car and its repair. Repeatedly failed to be called as promised or to get a straight answer concerning what was happening. Discrepancies in information existed between VW Corp. and Fox Valley VW. Initially told by VW Corp. advisor, who spoke with Larry Cohen, that the leak was not caused by the sunroof drains but drains in hood. VW Corp. in a later conversation stated that there had been a miscommunication and that the drains from the sunroof drain into the top/back of the engine. This story contradicts what the service advisor showed Lee when he picked the car up. read more

After a really great service experience I went back to lease a new car from Fox Valley Volkswagen. Working with David (Finance) and Patrick (Sales) was absolutely great. Fox Valley VW is lucky to have them and I feel fortunate to have found Fox Valley after so many difficult experiences with dealerships. Patrick was kindly and helpful without being the stereotypical overbearing sales guy. I highly recommend working with him. I cannot say enough nice things about Patrick. David really went to bat for me in the finance department making it "work." I didn't feel pressured or uncomfortable working with him. Finance is always tricky, but he made it a really great experience. Overall, I cannot overstate what a great experience I had with Fox Valley and their team. read more
