My husband had gone to the original salon on Center street for several years before we moved away. He always had good things to say about it and was always satisfied with his hair cut. Now that we're back and I've been looking for a stylist who could use a razor and cut a proper shag hairstyle. So I called the 65th Ave location and asked if they had an operator who knew how to use a razor. She immediately said Sarah and set an appointment. When I met her I described the cut I wanted and showed her pictures of traditional shag hair cuts, stating that I had asked for someone knowledgeable with a razor. She told me she doesn't use a razor but could duplicate a razor cut with shears, which I know can't be done. She was very convincing so I told her to proceed. After about 5 minutes she asked how is that? It was not even close to a shag. I asked her to please concentrate on the fringe to make it very evident. She asked me to explain so I showed her the pictures again, pointing out the fringe that makes the style a shag. She argued with me that the pictures weren't shag haircuts and called one a pixie, which it definitely was not. One Picture was a short layered shag and one was a long layered shag, which is what I wanted. She still didn't seem to understand even though the pictures were perfect examples of the style. She added some more layers but didn't come close to cutting the back length into the necessary fringe so I just gave up and accepted that I was only going to get layers and not the actual style. I went to pay and was extremely disappointed to have to pay $90 for a cut that I didn't want. She's talented with the shears but couldn't understand what I wanted and argued that I didn't know what a shag was. Needless to say I won't be going back. These are the pictures I showed her. Picture number one is the short layered shag, number two is the long layered shag and three is the cut she gave me. Doesn't come close. read more

I have seen Sara for the last couple of years at the Fircrest location and every cut is my favorite and they grow out so nicely. Also, she's just good , down to earth company. I have been loving a blunt bob with some layers and every time the line is perfect. She pays attention to detail and is great at balancing my crazy thick hair. I am so happy I found this place. I have extremely difficult hair to cut. I made an appointment without ever visiting the salon thinking I would be disappointed with my haircut as usual but it needed to be done. As soon as I met Ryan I was at ease. She literally killed it on my haircut, cutting my hair in the right way that allows it to fall naturally. I was so happy with my haircut that I made an appointment for hair color. Hair Dye comes down to chemistry, you have to mix the dye to cater to the hairs ability to absorb it. Shauna did the most amazing job. My hair rarely takes to dye but I wanted a change. Shauna took her time on my hair, trying her absolute best to make it the perfect color. It turned out beautiful. It took longer than expected but the fact that Shawna went the extra mile to make it look good was so amazing. I will definitely be returning to this salon for all my self care needs. Also, Cassie at the front desk is extremely personable and creates a comfortable environment whether you are coming or leaving. Three weeks later at my appt, I showed them again to be sure we were on the same page...Not only did I not get highlights (mouse grey shade, no highlights or lowlights), but my stylist also shortened my hair after having confirmed that I wanted to "maintain length". If "zero" stars were available that is what I would give them! I made a 2 pm appointment to have my eyebrows done today, 9/6/2023. I was 5 minutes early and was told it will be just a couple of minutes. At 2:15 I asked the young man at the counter if I was going to have to wait any longer for my appointment. A woman walked out and said she was late for her appointment and that is why I had to wait. I looked at the young man and said I was leaving and it was not fair to keep me waiting because this woman was not considerate enough to call and reschedule her appointment. I usually do not post reviews but I had such a terrible experience that I wanted to make sure everyone has this information. I had an appointment that was scheduled 6 weeks prior with my usual stylist but I was called 1/2 hour before to let me know i was rescheduled with Sara because my regular stylist left the salon. We were part way through the cut and I was questioning some parts of my hair and her attitude changed dramatically. She was instantly irritated and and stated that she could not make me happy. It just went downhill from there. I was also charged 95.00 for the cut because that is her price she charges when my regular stylist only charges 65.00. I was not told this up front. She didn't even style it. She was so visibly mad and I was trying not to lose it that I just paid it. This was my wife's experience. read more

I choose to have the same stylist every time I go because she has done amazing things with my hair! This was the first haircut I've had in a long time where the stylist really didn't listen. I told her I wanted to get rid of all the damaged hair because I was growing it out, and she said I could "just use product" to fix it. I pointed out the very dry kinks in the back of my otherwise relatively straight hair, and she even said that "it was breaking." Next, spend about 30 minutes not facing the mirror while she cuts my hair, leaving it longer than I thought I showed her, but I didn't say anything because, after all, I want to grow it out. She then blow dried it to curl the ends under, making it impossible to see if it was cut evenly. Once that was over, she did not offer me a mirror or show me the back of my head. I got about 8 seconds to check it out, and the style was "meh," so I just wanted to get the hell out of there. $55 later, there is still about 2 inches of dried out, damaged hair on the ends, and it still looks like I really need a haircut. read more

Disappointing. I have been growing my hair out for so long and came in to get a nice shape. I hated the style and thought maybe after I styled myself it would be ok. Not so much. Heartbroken going into the holidays with this butcher job. On to extra vitamins, protein and biotin to speed up the recovery. Trying out a new salon for the first time is always scary because I've had too many bad experiences. I'm pretty picky about my hair and I have to have the right cut since I have long hair with natural waves/curls. I also didn't feel like driving up to Kirkland for my usual stylist after working 3 night shifts in a row. My coworker recommended the salon and it was conveniently in Fircrest so decided to finally give it a try but her hair stylist was unavailable and the only one was Randy. Based on his price point of $55 I was hoping for the best and I'm glad I took the leap! Randy gave shape and volume to my long boring shapeless hair! With a simple blowout he made me feel glamorous :) Definitely recommend Randy for cuts and I think I can safely say this will be my go-to spot in the Tacoma area. read more

I have always had great experiences here with the stylists (Sara is awesome; so is Di!) and the front desk people are super friendly.

Started going here when I lived in Silverdale which was a long commute but well worth the time and effort. They use Aveda products which are expensive but last forever and so good for hair and skin. Yes, it's expensive but the stylists are better than I have found anywhere. One nice thing, if you get color, is that they put it into their computer and if you're traveling to another city and need a touch up, they can mix the same color for you since all use the same products. When we were traveling back and forth to another city for long periods I did this and it was so slick. As I said, it's pricey but if you've never had one of their facials, they will knock your socks off. read more

After a few bad experiences with hair Stylists I have been researching and looking around. I noticed this place since it's by my coffee shop. Went on their website and it was easy to book online and I got an appointment right away. My stylist was Ana and she was great. She listened to me and I showed her photos and she made it happen. I was nervous in the beginning but from the time I was greeted at the door and when I left my experience was amazing. That is how a business should be ran. They offer drinks, something to read, and check on you. It was also super quiet and calm for a salon which I like. Ana was superb and she just got herself a new regular. I went in for the first time at the Fircrest location and met with stylist Lola for a haircut and had a lovely time! I brought my mom and five-month-old daughter with me and Lola was incredibly accommodating and friendly with them. She did a great job on my hair and brought it back to life after six long months of neglect after going through childbirth and wear and tear. She trimmed off a good chunk of it and gave me long layers and really adorable bangs after texturizing them and framing them around my face. We had a great conversation as well about life and her career that was really interesting. I appreciated how they also added on an extra 45 minutes of time for getting to know each other and extra TLC for my hair which I hadn't even asked for. I usually go to the Proctor location but glad I took a chance at Fircrest which is a lot easier and accessible to get to from my house.
